  1. Hi. It’s actually not uncommon for some WLS patients to feel depressed or anxious after surgery. As I deal with both, my nurse practitioner has been monitoring me closely. So far I’ve been well. Over time, WLS surgery can help relieve depression. So, be gentle with yourself. It can feel overwhelming bc you want to do everything perfectly. I napped daily for weeks. My biggest focus was (and still is) getting protein, fluid, and moving. I certainly wasn’t close to my 69 grams of protein initial goal nor my fluids goal. In fact, I still work hard to get it in and my surgery was 12/28/17. I saw my surgeon today and she is very happy with my progress. Of course, if your exhaustion is severe, you may need to have your iron and b-12 levels checked. Rest assured that what you’re experiencing is not uncommon. You know your body and should be concerned, please call your surgeon. That’s what he/she is there for. I’m happy to hear that you’ve moved about. Your body needs rest too and it’s perfectly fine to give it what it needs. Sending you [emoji295]️ [emoji304] and [emoji882].

    Over eating before surgery

With me during the 6 month process (I finished the process but now im switching surgery date from May to sooner) I ate fine all 6 months it’s now that I’m having problems eating everything in sight bc of the fear that I won’t be able to enjoy everything after surgery

    Genepro

Well their claim is a bit outlandish and clearly falls in the "too good to be true" category. I would imagine that no food has 100% full absorption / 100% bio-availability, so when they make outlandish claims the burden of responsibility to support those claims falls on them. Here is their "study" supporting their claims http://www.musclegen.net/documents/geneproClinicalTrial.pdf (note its a small short term, small sample size, poorly controlled clinical train paid for by them). Personally I think their claims are 100% bs and wildly exaggerated. That said I dont think the product is bad for you, it is very much a protein supplement. That said its very likely that youre really only getting somewhere in the 11-15g range of protein per serving and absolutely not 30g. The TLDR: is basically Genepro is very likely giving you substantially less than 30g of ACTUAL protein per serving, which makes it overpriced and difficult to accurately track your macros. But if you dont mind overpaying for an easy to dissolve flavorless protein its probably just as fine as any other protein powder as a protein source. Youll just have to make an educated guess on how much protein youre consuming, and probably double their dosages to get that actual amount
  4. I have done wash, gotten a shower, cleaned a little but mainly I just wanna lay around bc I can’t do much else. I def don’t have energy to walk five miles.
  5. I think it matters the most to get your protein in and let that determine how many meals? Here's what I'm doing to get 60g of protein daily: B1: decaff coffee and Premier Protein used as creamer (6oz of PP during this meal) = 10g P B2 (elevensies): Around 14g P L: Around 14g P AS: Around 12g P D: Around 14g P BS: None unless needed to make 60g P for the day, then more PP in decaff coffee. Hope that helps! I eat about every 3-4 hours-ish?

    BARRETTS DISEASE

No. I weighed 222.4lb at surgery. My 1st goal is 160lbs. I did RNY for some of the same reasons. I have pre-cancerous cells in my esoph and duodenum and gastritis (which 98% of us have). I am also a BC survivor. So RNY it was. And I'm doing fine. So will you.
  7. Dr said to not take a whole pill bigger than a Bc pill. So I crush the protonix? Even though the labeling says not to crush it?? I’m confused!

    Sleeved 3/12

I heard that the 30 mins before is bs. Very conflicting because on one hand water supposedly flows right through our stomachs but on the other hand we are told not to drink it because it will cause us to feel too full or push out the protein in our stomachs too fast. Which one is it? I think maybe the truth lies somewhere in between. I think a few small sips before eating on an empty stomach doesn’t matter. I think drinking a full glass of water and immediately starting to eat is a bad idea. I don’t think water needs 30 minutes to pass through our stomachs but I would give it at least a few minutes. There are so many opinions and misinformation regarding WLS aftercare. At the end of the day I think we all just need to do what works for us. Oh and eat protein first.

    Irritable

Yes, I am cranky at times, and a bit mouthier as my patience for bs has lessened considerably. I have had to take a walk, take a shower, take a nap, leave in the car, pet some fabric, etc and it passes. These are all physical motions - doing anything physical quiets the mind/mood.

    4/23! Surgery buddy?!

April 15!!! Haven't started my liquid diet yet but I'm afraid bc I'm on a low cal diet rn and I'm so hungry
  13. Thank you for sharing your story. If your advice worked, none of us would be having weight loss surgery! Sorry..a bit simplistic.."just watch your eating habits" LOL!! Food is one addiction that we cannot live without..and it is hard to just "eat right". The band was not meant to stop you from eating chips and shakes..it also doesn't make you want to eat kale and fish either. It limits food good or bad. I got the surgery mostly to keep it off rather than just to lose weight. I was sick of the 5% chance of keeping weight off you lose..those are bad odds. Unfortunately, when I was unfilled when they found the esophagus issue, I gained 30lbs in a month..I ate barely anything..I watched EVERY bit and sip I took..counted calories..was eating like 500 calories a day and worked out and gained 5lbs a day..it was a nonstop freight train. I am afraid when the band goes, I will gain more. I originally lost 130lbs with the band..gained 50 so far after the unfill..but have now stabilized. I have a fill but no port or tube..so the band is still doing what it supposed to do..keeping weight off..BUT still not helping with losing these 50lbs no matter what I do to "eat right". I do hope that works for you..sounds like you have resolved to just try and wing it like the rest of the mere mortals. I cannot risk gaining that weight with no way to lose it and most importantly keep it off long term. I went back to the surgical office locally today to ask the surgeon more questions. Looks like insurance requires ANYONE getting a new surgery..even if a revision..to jump through all the hoops...psych evals, dieting, etc etc..all the BS that is important for a brand NEW patient, but rediculous for someone banded for 16 years. So I am looking at possibly just paying out of pocket and going back to my surgeon in Mexico. He has more experience, he can do the removal/revision at same time..no hoops to jump through..a lot to consider..but just winging it again and just "watching my eating habits" never worked and won't at my age to stop the gain that will most likely happen nor get off what I gained. Good luck with your journey!

    Hosting Sunday Dinner

I'm a perfectionist to say the least, but more so a nurturer. I love hosting because I thrive on making sure everyone is fed, comfortable, and happy. But good advice, I'll try and take it easy

    People making decision difficult

You are looking for external validation and for someone else to make this super-serious decision for you. That way, if you fail it won't be your fault--cuz it wasn't your decision to begin with and you'll claim that you had your own doubts all along. So I'ma call BS on this one and instead will say, seek your own truth. Make a pro-con list. Listen to your heart and your gut. Come to us for questions, research, experiences, etc--but don't come ask us to tell you what to do. Cuz opinions are like assholes. They are a dime a dozen and great supply. But sadly, nobody wants to see or hear 'em. You can DO this. Think for yourself. Do you!!!

    February bypass buddies?

Keep in mind, you may need to verify your meal size with your doc or RD. Because when most people here 4-6oz, they start thinking weight--as in weighing on a scale. But, the reference they gave you still alludes to a volumetric measurement. 1oz by VOLUME (measure) = 2tbsp = 1/8cup by VOLUME = 1/4oz by weight 4oz by VOLUME (measure) = 8tbsp = 1/2cup by VOLUME = 2oz by weight 6oz by VOLUME (measure) = 12tbsp = 3/4cup by VOLUME = 3oz by weight ************** Conversely, most protein in it's pure/fluffy/cooked state, unweighted down by meat lube or other moisture additives like light or fat free mayo and dressings and sauces add up like this: 1oz protein by weight (then flaked, chopped fine, or pulled) = 2oz by VOLUME = 1/4c by VOLUME = 4tbsp 2oz protein by weight (then flaked, chopped fine, or pulled) = 4oz by VOLUME = 1/2c by VOLUME = 8tbsp ************** And then there's the whole "meat salad thing" like tuna salad, etc... 2oz tuna, salmon, canned chicken by weight (flaked, chopped, pulled) + 1tbsp low fat mayo/yogurt + 1/2tsp mustard + 1/2tsp dill relish = 1/4c by VOLUME = 4tbsp. It will weigh more than 2oz by weight because of the addition of the condiments. Fun and intriguing bs isn't it?

I had mine in Dallas- total for everything plus a year of post op $10k. Insurance did not cover bc my BMI was 34 and I had no co-morbidity. No problems- everything went smoothly.

    Question regarding Superannuation

Hi there, Does anyone have some insight into the ease (or not!) of accessing your super these days? I have a sleeve back in 2012 and am considering a revision. When I tried to access my super I was denied bc i had 4K in my bank account (to pay daily bills) and the surgery was 5K. They deemed me "capable of saving for the surgery" and refused early release. Has anyone had success with their application and is happy to share the ins and outs with me? Thank you!
  19. April 16! Those drs who I’m happy with but staff suck tried to make it for may 30th bc they said my insurance wouldn’t approve my 6 months weigh in keep in mind I had over 4 years in weigh ins bc that’s how long I been waiting!!! Office was suprised!
  20. Mine is April 3rd, I started my 2 week liquid diet today and I have a horrible headache and I'm sad. I haven't ate anything I wanted to but I tried to manipulate my husband to co-sign my bs. I've been told after the 3rd day it gets better. I keep reminding myself if I slip, I'll resent myself so much. Sent from my Z983 using BariatricPal mobile app
  21. I don't have a surgery date yet, it will be most likely in the summer. I will be 40 this year and I'm tired of my body feeling like it' 85. I know I can be successful I'm just nervous about the possible issues after the fact. It' a big decision. But I'm going to keep talking , reading and researching as much as possible so that I can get more comfortable and less worried. I' glad I found this site bc I know I can' be the only one unsure or worried.

  23. My panni was just denied by insurance. I have a *** and needed to get a reference from my GP to see the plastic surgeon then approval from my GPs medical referral bc the doctor my Bariatric surgeon recommended was not in their office (eyeroll). I have lost 105ish lbs and I need one! I’m wondering a few things and hoping you all can help me figure this out. First I’m wondering if I got denied bc the surgeon I went to was not out of my GPs office? They had one to give me but when I researched him he was a hand doctor who did plastic surgery also. Secondly I’m wondering if the plastic surgeon I went to was ridiculously expensive and that’s why it was denied. Tummy tuck was 12,500 and breast lift was 12,000. I know only the panni part is covered but this surgeon does both for same price. Thirdly and most importantly I’m wondering what my rights are to appeal something like this. I plan to call in the morning but wanted to get my ducks in a row and have a clue what I was going to ask them at the insurance company. Out With the Old--In With the New!

I had a rebellion - Christmas cake. Three weeks post surgery. Now get this BS rationalisation - I said to myself “the cake will have a lot of sugar, all that dried fruit. So I will (wait for it) pretty much just eat the icing.” Can ya Tell I have a PhD in Psychology? Sure enough, bad dumping. Luckily we are learning critters. Now even the sight of fruit cake makes me nauseous...

AshMarie are you getting excited? It is wonderful you are now so close. Are you busy making plans, getting everything in order before you go to the hospital? You probably have told us but I forget where you are having your surgery at. Have you watered your plants? All the bad food out of the pantry? Fed the cat, dog,or goldfish? Do you have to change your diet right before surgery? Can you tell I'm excited for you? Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app
