    Not Losing Weight?

Your 19 lbs loss is great Once you get into a routine you will see a steady weekly loss of anywhere from 1 lbs to 3 or 4. It all depends on how much you have to lose... I believe RNY you will lose 70-80% of your weight where the band and sleeve is something like 60% only.
  2. Hello all, I have not been here is ages. I was banded six years ago come the end of this month. I have lost and gained - lost and gained, usually the same 10 pounds. I have just come from getting a long needed fill and will be back on the wagon of using my band as a tool to get to my goal. Just wanted to share.

    weight loss after vsg

I don't think there is a normal or not normal for VSG. Everybody varies. I've found that if you just keep doing the right things through the stall...your time will come. I'll have weeks where I don't lose a thing, but when I look back over the months I have consistently lost between 10 to12 pounds each month after the first month (20lbs the first month). Sometimes it's frustrating to see that some people lose 100 pounds in 4 months, but you know what...this is me. Gotta say...I'm QUITE pleased with my 67 pound loss! I've gone from a size 20 pants and 18/20 shirts from Lane Bryant to a size 8 or 10 depending on the fabric pants and medium or large shirts depending on the cut from Old Navy. If you do what you're supposed to do...it will happen. It might not be as quickly (or as slowly) as someone else, but you will be successful! Chin up.

OT-Anyone go to Disney on a budget?

Kimber Lilly - To me it helped to stay on Disney property, Not a disney hotel, but one close. There is a Hilton, Wyndham palce that is nice. I stayed there for a week with my daughter. Great pool and walk right across the street. We drove from IL. I drove straight through each way. My daugter slept while I drove at night and I took my laptop so she could watch movies in the back. I took lots of food and drinkings with us. I even have a cooler back pack we used for the day at Disney with ice packs. This really did save a lot of money( even just on bottles of Water and snacks). If you are going to go to disney for more then two days I would go on line a pre buy your multi day passes you will save a little bit of money doing that. Also if you go to sea World when you go in go right to the left. You can have your photo taken and added to your ticket and you will get a second day for free. You will also be able to avoid parking by taking the disney shuttle. There are tons of places to eat right around the hotels the should not be more then a 10 cab ride - lots of places for kids. Hope this helps, also if you travel at all and have any "Hotel Points" you can use for at least one night that helps as well. also check the hotel rates everywhere. like - travelnow.com, expedia.com, and the hotel's website. Also make sure you call as you never know where you will find the best rate. Also of course try to avoid the "Hot Dates" when the rates are really high. One other tip if you ave a daughter and plan to eat in Cinderella's Castle for lunch call now and make your reservations. When we got there they could give me one in two weeks. I laughed walked away and waited for another lady and thank god someone did not show up and she got us in. It was great cause Cinderella was there and my daughter got her picture taken and all that fun stuff. Good luck and have a great time.

    Day one post op

We obviously got different instructions. I am allowed only clear liquids, including broth and Jello, for the first week. I can't try thicker stuff till next week. How you feeling this morning? I had a good sleep and the only pain I feel is like I have done a big ab workout. Definitely feel like I'm on the mend! It's funny how different surgeons have different instructions! My surgeon just said see what you can handle...he said juices, broth or creamed soup, yoghurt drinks and custards for 1 - 10 days. I'm not sure what happens after that as I'm meeting the nutritionist today and she will explain.
  7. I am 10 weeks out tomorrow and have lost just over 28 lbs. I started in a size 18 and can now fit in a 14. I was stalled for 3 weeks and it was during that stall that I started dropping sizes. I am losing slower than I expected, but I am learning to be patient. It is definitely working and the good news is that this time the weight will not ever return. I can tell this will be a permanent solution.

    Lap-band and CPAP

I was banded on June 10 and have all of the above issues. The only one which has not gotten better is the gout. That got worse due to the massive amounts of Protein I was taking. I cut back to 60g a day and have had no further issues. I no longer have to take insulin, byetta, cholesterol medicine, liver medication or synthroid and I only use my bipap about twice a week. I have lost 30lbs since the surgery and a total of 97 since I was diagnosed with the diabetes in Dec. I still take lasix and BP medication but am ready to come off the BP one as my BP sometimes dips a little low. I just don't want to be too hasty. I have gone from 14 pills and 3 injections a day to 4 pills and no injections. My bipap was set at 17/14 and I have been using it for over 6 years. I get another sleep test next month for my dr to evaluate how much it needs to be decreased or if I can even totally do away with it. I have had no problems with the acid reflux but do follow the dietary restrictions very closely. I eat almost everything I want but stay away from the "bad carbs". The lapband had been a true lifesaver for me - it has reinforced my ability to deal with the diabetes and other co-morbidities of my soon to be gone obesity. Oh, I started out at 306 in Nov07, was down to 239 the day of my surgery and am at 209 as of this morning.:thumbup::thumbup:
  9. I have obstructive sleep apnea and have been using the CPAP machine for the past 10 years. I use it every night right through my sleep. I also have diabetes (take insulin injections twice a day), hyper-tension, hypo-thyroidism, and a disposition to gout attacks. I am 250lb and have been in/around that number for most of the past 10-12 years. Therefore I have decided to opt for Lap-band procedure in mid-Oct-2008. I'd like to ask the forum members for any experiences - good and bad - from those who have been using CPAP and have undergone Lap-band procedure. I have heard about bad experiences of chronic productive burping, acid reflux problems, vomitting at night and choking. These worry me a lot since these can potentially get complicated for those who use CPAP and can actually worsen cardio-pulmonary tension. Please comment.
  10. Since surgery I have averaged a 1lb loss every day. Today I was up nearly 1lb and now I feel so discouraged. Maybe my expectations are too high, I was so enjoying my progress up till now and not so much today.
  11. I'm two days out and just got out of the hospital. I'm feeling pretty good. It's a challenge to get the Water and Protein shake in, but I'm just sipping as often as I can. Luckily they were able to do the surgery laparascopically, so I'm not as sore as I would have been with an open incision. I'm looking forward to actually sleeping tonight instead of being woken up every hour or so at the hospital. I did put on a couple pounds - others have said it's due to the constant IV hydration in the hospital. I have been spending some time walking, it helps with the gas and aches and pains. Did 33 laps around the hospital floor yesterday. Today I'm just walking around the block. My house is small so if I want to walk it must be outside. I was really lucky that I didn't have nausea after surgery. I'm just trying to learn how much I should have with my sleeve. So far I just take a sip or 2 then wait 10 or 15 minutes and do it again. Best of luck to you for your May 31st surgery!
  12. Hello, I just had my first consult with the surgeon I've chosen to due my VSG surgery. He was very encouraging and staff were very kind. I'm still a little scared to have surgery again, but I'm 38 with a 10 year old daughter and I need to set a great example for her. I've been over weight most of my life, I lost 115 lbs when I was 20 yrs old due to a eating disorder, after years of therapy I now have a handle on food for the most part. My story became crazy when I found out while pregnant that I had Thyroid disease I refused to take any medication until my daughter was born it took me six years to get pregnant and I was not taking any chances. After her birth I weighed 315 lbs and my weight loss journey started all over again. After lossing 65lbs the only way I new how not eating I've been stuck between 250-265 for 10 years. So, surviving cancer and a complete hysteratomy I'm ready to take the journey that comes with weight loss surgery. Sorry for the long post I just wanted to provide a summary of where I've been.
  13. I had my band removed and was sleeved on 5/19. Trying to get my vitamins and nutrients and I was taking Bariactric Advantage Chewable Vitamins before my surgery. But now when I take them I almost immediately get sick, its like the taste changed and my stomach said "no way". Anyone have any recommendations on something else to try??

  15. I'm heading in for appointment number 1 today. I've got my binder all ready to go. They are going to think I'm a nut. It has the notes I took during my information session via webinar; a calendar for the several date options I would like to consider based on my teaching schedule (April, May, July); my documentation proof of 6 months of supervised diets as required by my insurance; copies of recent blood work and EKGs from my recent gallbladder surgery; pages of stuff I've found on this site and most importantly my list of questions for today. I've been thinking about WLS since 2004 when my then 60 year old mother had her bypass. I was heavy, but not heavy enough. I can remember joking with my PCP about being more than capable of gaining a few more pounds to qualify. But at the time I was working for United Airlines and our insurance policy specifically excluded all kinds of WLS. So I never actually thought I would be walking into a surgeon's office for this discussion. I retired from United and gained 35 pounds over the 10 years- neither of which I thought would happen. I'm a life long dieter. Diet pills in high school when I weighed 140lbs; Weight Watchers in college dropping from 160 to 140; Jenny Craig, many attempts at WW, South Beach, Atkins and most recently Ideal Protein. I even took Redux in the FenFen era. I have really good BCBS insurance now. Unfortunately I pay a fortune for it because my husband lost his job and we pay cobra. But since the payment is as big as the mortgage, I figured I should take advantage of it while I have it. The requirements for approval are surprisingly few- Be 18, have a BMI of 40 or 35 with co-morbid conditions; complete a psychological examination and participate in either a 6 month structured diet program or 2 three month consecutive programs. I'm 48. My BMI is 42. I did WW for 7 months in 2013 and Ideal Protein via my cardiologist for 9 weeks. I take BP medicine, a low dose aspirin, and a nitrate to reduce chest pains caused by a totally blocked small artery in my heart. So with the exception of the pysch eval- I'm already done with my requirements. It was a comment during a snow storm this winter that was really my light bulb moment. My 17 year old and husband headed out to sled one day and my daughter made a comment that broke my heart- She said "Mom, have you ever gone sledding with us? I can't remember even one time" OUCH! The truth hurts. I haven't done anything with my kids over the last 10 years and now they are all grown up. (17 & 20) I don't think my daughter ever understood because she was very heavy but never slowed down. I think she just thought I didn't want to do anything with them. Breaks my heart and I need to change that by being active with them moving forward. I want the 4 of us to do a Mud run kind of thing or ride the roller coasters at Cedar Point with them. (side note: my daughter stayed on WW and lost 65lbs in 2013 unlike the hubby and I who weigh more now) I have enjoyed lurking on these boards for the past view weeks and look forward to taking the plunge with all of you. Happy Friday!!! Amy

    Back pain

Also having some MAJOR rumbling grumbling like almost like I have to poop but I don't. I had 3 good sized BMs last night which have me good relief but I've had nothing but Water since I've been home (and liquid pain killer) so I can't really change my diet at all. Even though I don't have to go to the bathroom it's still keeping me awake because I'm scared ill go in my sleep. Starting weight 321- sleeve date 07/10/13 Sent from my iPhone using VST

    Sleeved June 1st

nraeh So glad you are recovering nicely and had an easy surgery! I got sleeved on Wednesday, June 1st as well! Just got out of the hospital Saturday afternoon (TODAY) and I am feeling pretty good too. Haven't tried a shake yet. Still just doing Clear liquids -- I had two sugar free jell-os tonight along with chicken broth, Vitamin Water zero and an sugar free ice pop! But after only being out of the hospital for 10 hours -- I pooped (sorry for the TMI but I am so proud & excited!). So my digestive system is working a - okay. My surgery went fine but it was delayed getting into the operating room. There were several emergency surgeries that bumped my ELECTIVE procedure. So instead of starting at 11 am they didn't start until 3PM so I was dehydrated going into the surgery. Of course they wouldn't let me even have ice chips until after the esophogram (swallow test) and in a major NYC hospital between the time you take the test, your surgeon gets the results and then actually gives a written order to start the patient on liquids takes way more time than a dehydrated gal wants it to take!!! All that aside every day I feel better. My new tiny tummy is still a bit sensitive. When I ingest anything even water I feel lots of contractions that aren't terrible but I would like them to go away. I need to keep taking the anti-nausea drugs and the PPI. I may try diluting a shake with water tomorrow and see if I can get in some Protein. There is always Isopure -- I broke down and bought three bottles (GRAPE/APPLE-MELON/BLUE RASPBERRY). Like you nraeh -- I am glad to be sleeved and looking forward to starting my journey! EJ
  19. Right when I woke from surgery I felt an ache in my left leg. I forgot all about it because of the pain meds, but the next moring it was like I just ran 10 miles. :tongue_smilie: It's still just as bad 4 days later? I don't know why this would happen? Anyone have this problem?

    quitting smoking

Annie I know just what your going through I was told I had to be smoke free for 3 months before surgery my last one was 01-3-13 I took chantix for 3 weeks and it really helped me get over that initial hump but now that I'm on low carb diet the last 10 days I've been having that nagging craving. I've found that electronic cigarettes help me. My surgeon allows you to use them so you may want to ask and try those it took a few brands until I found one I liked.

  22. The following comment is based solely on my own personal experience with the sleeve. I feel for you. But my concern is that at your current weight I don't see how you wouldn't wind up with the sleeve post-op becoming terribly underweight. I'm 13 months post-op and have lost 95 pounds and am now below my goal and trying to stay here without losing more weight. The sleeve really, really limits how much you can eat at one time. And when you're "done," you can't just put on the weight loss skids when you want to. It has taken me 5 months since reaching my weight loss to get to the point where I can regularly eat 1600 - 1700 calories a day, which is my maintenance calorie budget. And getting here took significant planning and snacking (not grazing!). In the meantime, I've lost another 10 pounds -- which, as it turns out, I like sitting at. And then there's this: If you're one of the unlucky ones who has a WLS complication of some kind you won't have a big overweight buffer to tide you over while your body recovers from the complication. These are the obvious reasons that surgeons don't do RnY or sleeve or other permanent WLS on patients who aren't already very overweight or obese.
  23. I think I am eating about 1/2-3/4 cup of food at a meal. Is that to much?
  24. I was sleeved 2/20/2019. Nearing the one year mark! Obviously the weight loss has slowed down but I'm curious if anyone is still losing this far out? I started at 273 on the day of surgery and have gotten down to 181 but have been here for a couple months.
