4 lbs to GOAL and almost didn't make it back through customs lol
discoveringme posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I just had the scariest NSV yesterday coming home from a business trip - i was stopped in customs and in checking my passport they guy says this doesn't look anything like you? I need another form of a picture ID to compare, so i give him my drivers license, and he says - well this looks like her but still not you?? I panicked and just said " I started exercising? " lol there were tons of people around and i really didn't want to get into the details of my WLS?? So he just looked at me funny and said good job and get new pictures. It was the best feeling although those guys really have no sense of humor so it was a little nerve wracking as well. Anyway YAY to my sleeve and YAY to almost goal, i can't believe in only 8 short months how my life has changed :-) -
Nsv! Knee Boots Not Made For Bigger Thighs! :)
Sleevedreamz posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ordered several pair of knee boots last winter knowing they probably wouldn't fit, but always seemed to do this to myself. They arrived and didn't fit and of course it made me want to cry. However, I pulled them out tonight and thought I'd give it a try and they zipped up with no problem! I was so excited. I now have 3 more pair of boots that suddenly fit which thrills me. I have a couple pairs that still wont zip up, but they are so close which has not been the case for a long time. YAY!- 5 replies

I started to clean out my closet today. I am now wearing a 12 in pants and an XL top. I felt a bit sad to throw away some of the clothes that I liked... I can't figure out why that is... I can't wear them now nor do I want to be a size that would allow me to wear them. I am very happy with my weight loss so far and looking forward to losing much more. Not much left in my closet. Maybe that is why I feel a little down. I think the clothes topic in general is having its way with me at this point. Belly dance teacher brought in pictures of outfits for our peformance. I asked what size they came in and she said she didn't know. The class picked an outfit anyway. It is a one size fits all outfit on ebay. It says the bottoms are up to a 38 hip... mine are bigger. The top fits a small/medium... mine is bigger. Maybe this is a way to weed a fat girl out of the class. I don't really think of myself as fat now...because I have lost 60+lbs. But welll I am still a fat woman. Khy

So the nerves are hitting me now
******** replied to ********'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone! I am now on day 3 post op and feeling a LOT better than yesterday. I already have a NSV: I slept on the couch instead of the recliner! Tonight I will try sleeping in our bed. I did take pain meds since coming home but for me it is to curb the gas pains and help me sleep. -
May 29 surgery date. SW 250, HW 270, CW 232 so down 18 pounds in the month since surgery. NSV: off of my bp med, down from size 20 to 16 - 18 (goodbye plus sizes forever!), and yesterday my husband told me how good I looked and he warned me not to lose so much that I "disappear". Bless his heart.

Good morning Fab Fourties! Haven't checked in for a while, so today seemed like a good day to do so... January was a tough month - got my fill on Jan 5th, felt restriction for a couple of days, but within two weeks felt like it was all gone and I was struggling with eating too much again. I have been bouncing up and down the same 2 - 3 pounds the whole month and I'm frustrated. I haven't been exercising as much, which is part of my problem, but my hubby helped solve that for me recently. He does maintenance on machines at a local gym and they were getting rid of three of their older rowing machines. They are in good working order (plus he knows how to fix them) so he brought one home. I'll be getting on it tonight for the first time and I've downloaded a couple of beginner workouts to try. My clothes are changing - I'm down two jean sizes (great NSV) and other things are loosening up. I can button and zip jackets that I couldn't before surgery, and that makes me happy. A couple of days ago, I pb'ed twice on food that never gave me trouble before - once at lunch and the next day at lunch. Very weird - felt like I had an air bubble trapped, but then up came the food! Yuck! :bananalama: I have been watching my intake for the past couple of days and feel like I'm more restricted now. I've heard on other posts that sometimes it takes a bit for the fill to "catch up" with you, but never experienced it until now. I'm hoping this continues at least through February, and maybe I'll look for another fill in March. I turned 46 on Feb 2nd, and I'm determined to make it to my goal before I turn 47! Here's wishing for steady progress for all of us!

What NSV do you hope for post op?
Shylarose replied to Kelly84's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
So, here I am, just a few days shy of 9 months post-op. Some of my favorite NSVs have been a surprise to me. Here are my favorites: 1. Having to buy new shoes. Who knew your feet would shrink. 2. Running a 12 minute mile. I hate running, but I had to try...just because I could now run. 3. Not having to expend mental energy every time I go to sit, stand, bend over, or any other physical activity I used to have to think about before doing it. 4. Being told by my Primary Care doctor that she didn't need to see me every 4 months any more, but just twice a year as I am now considered to be a healthy person with no issues. 5. Having a group of Firemen flirt with me in the grocery store. I looked behind me, because I was certain they were talking to someone over my shoulder. =) Seriously, at 50 this is quite the NSV. 6. sleeping through the night and waking up with energy. Loving my sleeve and so glad I had the surgery. -
Does This Really Work
pink dahlia replied to newme2012's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
im close to your size, 5'3 and was 225 lbs when i started looking at lap band last sept. i lost 6 lbs before i was banded dec 13th, and have lost 10 lbs since then. its all been a slow steady weight loss , a mild pain in my left side for the 1st 10 days, but felt fine otherwise. i know im on my way to sucess because i did my homework 1st. talk to anyone who has had it and read everything you can to make an informed decision. wait until you start getting NSV's (non scale victories) and compliments on your weight loss! you'll be so glad you got the band when some one calls you "a hot mama!!" best of luck to you !! -
I just got back from the Carribean in August, and yes, I wore a swim suit - a Tankini instead of my moo moo type I usually wore (pre band), but no matter what weight, if I'm going to the ocean, I'm wearing a swimsuit. I might not wear a bikini, but I'm wearing a swimsuit and enjoying myself just like everyone else. You deserve to have a good time, so put it on and enjoy! By the way, this summer was a NSV for me in the swimsuit area, I purchased a one from Victoria Secrets (a tankinni) and I actually felt good in it!

Need advice for sugar addiction
newat52 replied to acampbell1318's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gave up all processed sugar and flour on my pre op diet and now that I am almost 5 months out and can eat anything. I still have not had one single bite of a cracker, bread, chip or anything with processed sugar or flour. It is my slippery slope. I made myself a promise not to consume anything of the like until year's end. I think I need that time for me to adapt to my new me. I don't miss it right now and am ok but yesterday, I almost buckled and gave in as to not hurt someone's feelings. I have a group of friends and we meet for lunch once a month. We Celebrate birthdays, usually with just a card and small gift. My birthday is next week so we were celebrating mine. One of the ladies brought me a fancy cupcake with candles on it. I just cringed inside but thanked her. None of them know about my surgery but they do know that I have changed my diet. She was already annoyed with me because she had chosen the restaurant I commented that I was looking for a Pasta free dish and she asked why? I simply told her that I was not consuming any processed flour or sugar for the remainder of the year. She made a little comment about how it wouldn't hurt. I just said thanks but there is a great looking Cobb salad and changed the subject. About 5 minutes later it hit her that I may not eat the cupcake. She asked loudly so are you NOT going to eat that cupcake then? It got everyone's attention so now, all eyes were on me. I had to decide at that moment which was more important to me. My promise to myself or cave in and let someone pressure me? I decided in that moment that I was more important and worth keeping my promise to myself and just said, No, since I have made the commitment to not consume processed sugar this year, I would love to share it with you all or I can take it home and freeze it, it was so sweet of you to think of me though. She snapped at me and said, "well, I think you should eat anything you want, just eat less and you'll be fine." That pissed me off so I told her, "thank you, but I AM eating anything I want, however, I am also NOT eating what I don't want and I am very happy with my decision." That shut her up. A few minutes later I think she realized she was out of line and said, "you know, you should do what's right for you and I didn't mean to sound like I was telling you what to do." This is the place my mouth usually will get me in trouble but I just smiled and said, "thank you for saying that and I am doing what is right for me." I felt like It was a big victory for me, in realizing that I am worth following through with me! So, does this qualify as NSV?? -

Well I have an unexpected NSV today. I have had hung back a pretty robin egg blue outfit, Capri pants, a lacy feminine blousy top, a 44B mat Hong bra and panty set. Don't know why I think I have to be gift'-wrapped to go to the doctor's office but bear with me. I started by trying to put on the bra. OMG the "girls Underfill the cups and the band is LOOSE! What flippin" size am I anyway? There is one remaining store in my general area(well in Newark-23 miles South) who has a Bra- Fitter, guess I shall have drag my formerly fat, now flappy, floppy loose-skin self there, and humble myself to be measured. So needless to say, if that didn't fit , I went no further with THAT outfit. Maybe I will be like Aunt Myrtle, she used to fill her cups with tissues to look bigger. At least, if my nose runs I won't be without something to wipe with!ππΈπ

Figured I'd start another NSV thread as the other one was started in 2017 and had 69 pages! We all need a place to toot our proverbial horns and get our backs patted for it Toot away!

Not losing lbs but down sizes?
Eeyore replied to Eeyore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I cowgirled up and went to the Dr. for my fill yesterday - and I laid it out for her. She was so great and gave me some encouraging advice. I told her about how I seem to be able to fit into smaller clothing but haven't lost a single pound and I am feeling fustrated and like I'm going nuts.. She told me to consider it a NSV and celebrate it and not to worry that the scale will follow. Essentially she says that my body is repositioning as I'm toning up (thanks to my new passion pilates) and that this is a good thing. We also talked Protein. Admittedly I've been pretty bad about this and have been focused on calories and fat and not as much as protein. I find it difficult to count anything when I tend to eat things that don't have labels on them, so I just try to make good choices. Anyway, she recommended the Isopure drinks so I'm not taking in a ton of calories but will be getting a good dose of protein. I'll have to go pick some up today and see how it goes. Thanks to everyone!!! -
W00000t!!! that is awesome. Congrats on the NSV!!!

Well I am a happier camper tonight. TODAY I bought my first pair of Junior-sized Capri leggings. Okay, they are a 19 but in the NSV world we live in thats a Big β Victory. Did not have to jump up and down to get into, didn't have to lie down on a bed to pull up or zipper them. Don't laugh ,my peeps, but they slid right on smoothly. Just enough snugness that it was like shapewear and smoothed my blobby globby thighs into smoothness, and if I say so, I look pretty good. Now I want another pair, these are red like a bandana, maybe a navy blue or grey Heather? Less than $4 in price, so wouldn't strain my budget to buy another. And back when I was a 28-30 W I would never believe I could achieve this before my 1st year was up. Don't know if I'm brave enough to wear them out in public, even though I have seen people who must have been dressed by someone who hated them severely. But even if I am at the upper edge, I once again am a Junior-sized person. Yippee Yahoo!
