i started on mushes yesterday! it was my post-op apt and he said I'm good to go on mushes then after about 2 weeks i can start real food again. right before surgery my surgeon came and and said so do you want the lap band or the realize band? i was like ummm ( because i was thinking i was getting the lap band) he said that he likes the realize better so thats what i ended up with. also just so you know after you have the surgery there is a card you can get from your surgeons office or lap band journey.com or for me the realize success. com it lets you order off the kids and senior menu at restraints. its pretty neat. just wanted to share that with you. and I'm sure you can have a few bites from Thanksgiving dont think it will hurt you much!!!

Hi! How are your mushies going? It's so exciting after those weeks of liquids! If you like sweet potatoes, they were like a staple food, also, rachel ray showed a recipe for mashed potatoes using a few potatoes and the rest cauliflower....ive got to try that! It looked really good! Good luck!

Wow! You look great! I'm 1 week post op (yippee) and had a really hard time with hunger yesterday. I wanted to give myself some mental strength and looked at some before and after pics! You completely snapped me out of my funk! I have a formal gala in 6 weeks and I hope I look half as good as you do in your picture! You are beautiful!!!! I going to borrow the below advice fromj 2Flyguys and go for a walk. I hope the hunger stays at bay for a little while longer! (I start purees on Thursday and never, ever thought I could get excited about that!)

Hope your doctors appointment goes really well today!! I'll say it again...there's NO food I can't eat...including popcorn! Actually, most people put crunchy things like chips and popcorn on that 'slider' food list as they're one thing you can eat even when you're super tight as long as you chew really well (seems weird I know, but crunchy things like toast break up well in your mouth whereas soft bread becomes a mushy ball and gets stuck).
I eat all the same dinners as my family does, and no, it's not because I'm cooking meals I can eat...I'm lucky, DH does that. About the only time I eat something different is about 1/2 the time when they're having a mainly pasta meal I'll add part of a hamburger for more protein or eat a different protein leftover that night. As long as you work with the band and pay attention to being satisfied (NOT full) it will work with you and allow you to keep eating everything.
-
Hey Mechelle! Thanks for the comments! I was thinking of you last night...DH made homemade mashed potatoes and I overate a little just because they were sooo good (I still love good food)...yep it's a slider, but I ate the meatloaf first so I was full all night!
I've never had a fill get tighter (they've only loosened over time for me), but I know many here say they get that, even weeks later. If it's not better soon, you're doing the right thing. Many say even a tiny unfill (.5 or .1cc) can make all the difference (food shouldn't hurt).
I have found that I have to retrain myself how to eat after each fill. You get used to things going down with what you've been doing and then with more restriction you need to make even more changes (the hardest one for me is slowing down...doesn't seem like you'd have to if you're chewing it to death, but you do).

Thanks for following up- you look great- I visited your blog. I have been stuck for 2 1/2 weeks with no weight loss or gain- started exercising and have actually dropped inches and not pounds- maybe because I am building muscle??? No idea- finally stayed off the scale for a week and when I weighed- low and behold I was down 4 pounds!!! Going in on 10/07/09 for a fill and looking forward to it- getting too much room again and can mow down quite a bit of food, but making better choices so I hope to keep steadily losing:tongue_smilie:- good luck and I will continue to check up on you also!

well i've lost alot of inches and 13 lbs. I'm 197 now and in my 16 jeans. I was almost in a 20, so very exciting. I go back again to Dr. Roye on Oct. 16th. He wants to wait until i'm real foods to see how my weight loss is before doing a fill. So i'm fill-less.LOL. I was walking alot and been lazy(aka. workin too much) so i have a wedding this sunday and have a really cute dress that i bought. So want to just exercise so i feel better than in the dress. So how much have you lost total so far. 1-2 lbs is great. Glad your doing so well. LOVE my band too. TTYS

yep, the first few days i was hubgry all the time, but i have learned it is easier to not eat real food until dinner, use the three protein shakes until then, seems once i eat then i am more wanting to eat food. I miss dt coke and i miss cheetos, but know this is going to be a life change i will have to adjust to!
I have not told but a few close people i work with and my husband, as i do not want people watching ad commmenting on what i eat, when i eat, etc! I guess my worst fear is to "cheat" on the pre diet and then have them open the lap and have to close it due to not enough loss around the liver!

Hi again, I had my second fill four weeks after my first. That is just the way my Dr. scheduled it. It took four days again for my body to feel that I had been tightened. I could only eat about 2 tablespoons of food and I was done for each meal. I did have a problem with scrambled eggs for the first time this morning. I had my third fill this past Monday and Friday was the fourth day after my fill and I again had to eat very little and slow. I guess that is what I mean when my band has check in or kicked in. I also get the hick ups and I know for sure to stop eating or I will end up in the bathroom not feeling well. I have enjoyed playing with my band. imaluckydog Kathy I hope I have helped

Hi xavier, I have had three fills the first one was five weeks after my surgery. I kept eating the way we do slow any steady and on the fourth day after my first fill I was so tight I only ate about 2 tablespoons full of food at each meal. Then I could not eat any more. I always ate the protein first and sometimes that is all I could eat. I eat a lot of greek yogurt and eggplant with meat sauce. If you want I can give you the recipe for the Wendy's Chili. I eat that all the time. I usually put grated cheese and or sour cream on it as well. Tastes great and is easy on my band.

The cravings are at bay for the moment. I found some wonderful almonds. They are cocoa roasted almonds and only have 1 gram of sugar. Let's definitely meet and maybe try and get some others to come too. If you want to go to the Park Plaza support group, let me know and we can go together. I'm going to see my doctor on Tuesday for my 3 month post op, I am hoping for the big 50! I am at about 46ish right now. It has really slowed down. I got stuck over the weekend on scrambled eggs and ham. It turns out I have trouble eating in the morning. I have been drinking protein shakes for breakfast and then real food for lunch and dinner. Not doing too well on the exercise, but I will get there. Have a great evening and we'll talk soon.

Hi again! Sorry to hear about the thyroid issues. That doesn't sound like fun! Hope all is well....at least you got through the banding surgery and before long, you'll be eating mushies!!! Who ever thought the mushy stage would be something to get so excited about...but my first bite into food was heaven!!! It is my 2 month bandiversary and a bit uneventful. I've lost 35 lbs. total (15 since banding). I had my first fill on 11/5 but do not feel any restriction...dr. is booked till 12/5 so I have to wait till then and am hoping to hit my "sweet spot" before my sweet tooth gets busy on holiday goodies! Healthwise, I no longer have sleep apnea and the arthiritis in my knees has all but disappeared. I thrilled! I am going to compete in my first 5K next weekend (I'm walking it!). I even enjoy working out....I've made it a part of my routine and I feel bad if I miss a class! Best of luck on your journey...I'm here if you have any questions (or complaints!!!) Take care!

:tt2:Hi
I was banded on the 27th of August and I am feeling really good. I have lost a total of 21 lbs pre-op and post-op. I know we are supposed to lose slowly but I want to lose fast. Started exercising this week. On a mushy diet for this and next week then I can introduce soft foods.
-
Everything is going well so far. Im dealing with eating mushie foods but ready for normal ones! Other than that Im doing good. I get my fill wed of next week and the nurse who does it says she likes t be aggressive on the first fill so Im hoping for some good results after that! I just got back to the gym yesteray and did ok with that so that made me happy that I could get back to exercising to hopefully speed the process up!!

I am sorry it has taken me 5 days to reply... I think I was hoping I would find some perils of wisdom for you about your situation. As far as the weight loss goes, unfortunately you have just experienced one of the pitfalls you and I have spoken of in the past... where after surgery and each fill I too have gained weight back upon starting soft foods. The body is an amazing and frustrating thing! I can completely understand and sympathize with your stress/depression issue causing it hard to stay focused on your new way of life.
