I agree with Guy. I eat Protein in the morning. What you are eating is considered a slider food even though it's somewhat nutritious. Try egg beaters, or scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, ham, omelettes. They're a little harder to digest so they stick around a lot longer. I also eat skinny flat breads with an egg, ham and cheese slice. It's around 300 calories and sticks around for many hours. One other thing? My doctor explained to me that as time goes by, our pouch becomes a more efficient muscle and adapts to pushing food through the band with more ease. In other words, it becomes stronger which can appear that your stoma is more open when it's not. I'm going in for another fill tomorrow for the same reason. I seldom get stuck and I believe I need the adjustment so that I feel satisfied longer.

Here is my favorite thing to do and it's so simple! It's called "sandwich chicken" and it's my creation. Basically any type of sandwich you can make into a chicken dish. For example I made "cuben sandwich chicken" the other day. And that consisted of: 1 lb of chicken breast (1 large breast), pounded even and cut into 6 chunks. 1 package honey roasted thin sliced ham lunch meat 1 package light Swiss cheese 6 sandwich sliced dill pickles 1 table spoon extra light mayo mixed with 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard. All you do is par cook the chicken breasts on a tinfoil lined cookie sheet until its 10 minutes from done, pull it out, and smear the chicken breast with the dijonnaise, then lay one pickle slice over each, fan out 6 slices of the thin ham over it, and then top with one slice of cheese. Then you just finish it off in the oven. It's great because its massively Protein driven, about 250 calories for a single piece, low in fat, and just about 2 grams of carbs. Similarly I've done "pizza chicken" which is just what it sounds like. Chicken par cooked then topped with pizza sauce, non fat mozzarella cheese, and turkey pepperoni and finished in the oven. You can do anything to and any sandwich, even pb&j, try an Asian spin with grilled chicken skewers with a plum sauce and a peanut sauce. Good luck! Also I'm Fight4light on Pinterest, I have a popular lapband board where I have compiled a list of lapband recipes, you could check that out if you like. And remember, any recipe and be changed to be healthy.

I am 4 weeks 2 days post op and have been logging my calories in my fitness pal for a week. I'm getting anywhere from 650 calories/day all the way up to 1100 one day. I can find all kinds of information about what foods to eat and portion sizes, but what about actual calorie intake? My 1100 calorie day was because I juiced some fruits, added a banana and a protein shot and sipped on it over a couple hours. My Fitness Pal tells me everyday that I'm eating too few calories, but I think we're unique due to the nature of our surgery. Sure would love to know how many calories others are taking in.

Has anyone gotten instructions on how much protein, calories and fat is appropriate after the healing phase? I'm struggling to lose any weight at all - I've been trying to make healthier choices and increase my exercise but I can't seem to get anything moving and it is really making me upset. I'm even afraid to go in next week for my 2nd fill as I haven't lost a single pound and fear my dr. is going to be mad at me.

I completely agree with you; and you said it beautifully! I am on the 5th morning of my optifast 800 calorie pre-op. On day 4, still no hunger-then it hit that afternoon and I was shocked! I have felt hunger, but this was intense-and I was happy for it. My body is slowly going to get back to normal (how it should be) and the band is not even on-I am so excited about this JOURNEY!!!

BeagleLover replied to CKR111's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Don't think that, just because you are pregnant, you have to gain weight. I had gestational diabetes and saw an endocrinologist. Their nutritionist set up a diabetic diet eating plan so that I would lose 2lbs/week (2000 calories). I stuck to it like glue. I figured that, if I messed up, my daughter would die. Nothing I could eat would be worth that! Anyway, I lost 25 lbs. during that pregnancy and 25lbs with the next one, eating very healthy balanced meals. I'm being honest, I was ready to EAT THE TABLE! But it CAN BE DONE. Best of luck. -
I have been in a stall for 35 days no inches and no pounds lost. I just started a thread about it before I saw this. I keep calories under 1000 every day and per my surgeon's order was keepin carbs under 70 but I think I am going to return to the liquids and very low carbs I am sick of this stall. Perhaps I can take it off with liquid and keep it off with restricted eating.

This topic is frustrating my whole world right now. I can barely get in 800 calories..and was so ticked off when my loss slowed...and the nutritionist said Im going into starvation mode, and my body will hold on to the weight...so overwhelming

What am I doing wrong?
HeatherinCA replied to betheboo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1-2lbs a week is totally normal... so if you don't lose for 2 weeks, then lose 6 haha you are good! That happens to me sometimes too. Remember you need a calorie deficit of 3500 calories to lose 1lbs. -
Hi, I had revision from band to gastric bypass on 8/1/13 and I am still struggling getting my Protein, liquids and calories. On a good day, I get the minimum (48 oz liquid 45-60 protein but approx. 500-600 cal). I just feel too full and can't fit anything else in. Getting these amount is a real painful struggle. I did have a recent complication of a hernia with my intestines twisted up and around the pouch. During that whole month of dire pain I was only getting 300-400 calories. I am healed up now, but I still struggle like I did before the complication getting 500-600 calories. Is there anyone else that struggles because they are just too darn full all the time? Oh I also have more pronounced food sensitivities. Most of the time I am in pain from trapped gas and I think about how I can't continue living like this. It's really depressing. I am happy that I am losing weight, but I don't feel successful, because I feel like crap everyday (lack of energy, dizzy, very depressed from lack of calories, and borderline wanting to end it all). Hubby says take it one day at a time, but I don't know if I can anymore. Doc told me to take beano, digestive enzymes and gave me prescription strength antacid. These things don't seen to work well. Please, is there anyone else going through this?

question about calories
♥LovetheNewMe♥ replied to ivyh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When i was still losing steadily, I took in 800-1200 calories perday. Everyday was different. This was ok for me until I got down to the last 30 lbs and I stalled again. I was told to eat more and that took me time to learn to do. My trainer increased my calories to 1250 daily and it took me about 2 weeks before I was able to achieve this but once I did I was able to lose weight again. Since being at goal I have struggled with eating over 1200 calories. I am suppose to eat 1400-1600 calories now and I still only average between 1100-1200 calories aday, thus I continue to lose weight. I have to eat constantly during the day, at least 3 snacks in order to get all my calories in. If you are losing weight, and are not hungry and healthy do not worry about the additional calories as long as you are getting your protein in. If not have a shake. -
congrats on your weight lost. You may be eating your maintaining calories if the scale is stuck for two months. It’s choice to log. There is no way to lose weight guessing how many calories you ate. At 5 wks - do you raise calories for exercise?
MacMadame replied to sleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes. With the sleeve, the first thing is trying to convince themselves that they need the biggest sleeve their surgeon is willing to give them. But it takes other forms too and you see it with all the different surgery types. But you aren't an early post-op with a very swollen tummy that can only hold so much. It's a completely different situation. OTOH, maybe if you ate more Protein, you could have run on 1000 calories a day. :wink0: -
At 5 wks - do you raise calories for exercise?
WASaBubbleButt replied to sleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
THANK YOU! I gave up explaining that a long time ago. I only see it on band boards, I never see it on sleeve boards but I cringe each time I see .... "My doctor said to eat 800 calories a day and if I do not eat 1500 calories a day I don't lose." Oye veh.... -
Hair loss/ A1C/ and How to loose lat 20 pounds?
Bufflehead replied to shirleyjohn001's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can't help with the hair loss or A1C, but I can tell you about the last 20 lbs, how that was for me. It was HARD. I had to commit to hand to hand combat with each of those pounds. Here's what I did: --very strict eating regimen. I stayed under 1100 calories per day, no exceptions. Three small meals and no snacks other than protein shakes. No grains, no starchy veggies, no sweets, no tropical fruits, and no liquid calories other than protein shakes. NO EXCEPTIONS to any of this, no "small quantity of good food and occasionally more carbs" -- that's how people in maintenance get to eat, not people trying to lose the last 20 lbs. --weigh or measure virtually all portions and track religiously -- fanatically even -- on MyFitnessPal. --vigorous exercise at least 5 days per week, 30 minutes per day, but do not count calories burned or give yourself permission to "eat back" calories burned. Exercise for me had to include a mix of different types: HIIT, running, circuit training, weights. --if my weight stayed the same for two weeks, I switched over to 5/2 eating for two weeks and that would get the scale moving again. Good luck! -
Bored With Liquid Diet Choices!!!
Motivated1 replied to marciebeth07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Equate generic form Oscar slim fast is really good. The only thing about it is it only offers 10g of protein and it's packed with 170 calories. Im 5 days post op and I'll usually drink half a can then drink some water or g2o and a small spoon of peanut butter for more protein and drink the rest later and if I want anything in between and yosicle sugar free popsicles are AMAZING -
I have been working with a personal trainer 3 days a week and here is what we do on those days... 30 minutes of strength training (weights) then 30 minutes cardio. She/he (I work with a woman 2 days and a guy one day) both said always do weights first - and it I can only get one thing in to make it the weights because you burn more calories and tone more by the strength training. But I think it really depends on your goals -and the most important thing is that you just get to the gym and exercize! Here is a good short article on this topic... My link

Day 7; no weight loss yet - when did you start losing?
kmorri replied to Seastars's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes stalls are very normal but you should also be tracking your food so you know how many calories, carbs, and Protein you're getting......Just stick to your plan and the weight will come off. -
Hey all! I'm new to this forum but a lot of the topics have really helped me so thank you!! I actually had a Band to Sleeve revision 6 days ago. Everything is going great so far.. No real pain.. Been doing clear liquid diet now since my surgery. I'm wondering when you all made that transition from Clear liquids to full liquid? My body is craving nutrition.. I must only be getting 150 calories a day right now. I know all surgeons have different plans but I feel like my body is ready to advance. I'm very weak too which is what bothers me the most. So far I've lost 18 pounds since my weigh in last Monday which is insane. Would love any advice I can get! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

If you have ever been around a kid for more than 5 min I am sure you have heard them say why at least twice. I was always the kid who ask why, it just does never worked on me, drove my mom nuts! Well I am still like that, I always want to know why. Since having surgery I am reading about nutrition and fitness all the time, to find out how and why my body works with food. One article I read said a calorie is a calorie and should be counted, while yes that is true, it isn't the whole picture. We all have heard and been told 200 calories from chicken is better than 200 calories of ice cream. But why is that if a calorie is a calorie? Well here is what I have figured out..... We need our protein and fiber- it helps us stay full longer. Some say hey ice cream has protein- I'll eat that, but that is where we need to know more. One of the best things I have learned is I can make my food work for me!! How awesome is that! When we eat foods high in protein, fiber and complex carbs our bodies must work harder to digest them, therefore, our bodies will will burn more calories digesting them. While I guess I knew this, it never really dinged until I read an article about that. When I did WW years ago things like fruit and veggies were hardly any points, yet they do have calories. However, your body must work harder to digest them therefore their calorie counts are almost null and in the case of veggies like Celery it is null. So now what do I do with this information..... Well, I am all about what I eat working for me rather than sticking to my hips. I am upping my fiber, making sure the carbs I take in are complex, and making sure I get my recommended protein in. I can still eat yummy food and things I love and lose weight. Yes, I will have to adjust. I highly recommend going to your favorite resturants website and looking at the nutrition part. Some like Wendy's and Burger King you can adjust the meal to see what calorie counts would be. It is amazing what just leaving off cheese or mayo can do for lowering the calories. Now I AM NOT saying eat fast food daily, but what I am saying is if you are craving that whopper - go get it, but adjust it- leave off the mayo, cheese and pickle and the calorie count will come down nicely. We (I) got to be obese by eating what I wanted and not paying attention to what I was putting in my body, but with a little nutrition knowlege we and ADJUST ourselves and our food to work for us. Holding up my water bottle..... Here's to Success!

Hey all, I just wanted to share, I finally got the nerve to try out the Kinect (it's my husbands set-up...I don't touch the thing ) and put on the UFC Trainer. I've always been interested in MMA and know that boxing is a huge calorie burner. I have to tell you all, I'm SO in love with this "game". And I say "game" because while you do keep score and earn points, it works you OVER. I'm sore from head to toe and I'm only on my second day doing it. There are workout sessions as well as little side pieces you can do, like hitting the heavy bag or speed bag. I'm not a gym girl....organized exercise kind of freaks me out...but I think before long I'll be an Octagon girl!! Anyone else try it?

I was banded on June 21/07, and am nearing my bandiversary. Unfortunately I might add ... I have lost only 44lbs, and a difficult 44 I might add. For some, that might be a great milestone, however for me, it is not. I came into this believing that 100lbs in a year was achievable. Um .... if I do the math, I'm a little off from 100. Anyway, looking over the last year, and all of the challenges that I faced, I guess all I can do it learn from those situations, and go forward. That is exactly what I plan to do. So, for all you bandsters who have any advice, have at er. I'm ready for whatever you got. I like to be tight. I tend to stay very restricted. My caloric intake would average at around 700-800 calories a day. That is good for me. Focusing on Proteins, and then filling up with a bit of everything. Even though I am quite restricted, I am able to eat numerous times throughout the day. As long as I eat VERY slowly, and just a little at a time. I believe I have this part down ... not to say I don't cheat and enjoy the odd milkshake or pudding, but I know what I need to eat to make this work. My problem is THIS ... I do NOT excercise at all. Not one little bit. I get up in the morning, head to work where I sit at my desk for 8 hours, and I come home. That's it. No suprises, no variety. The same thing day in and day out. Now I know that excersice is important, but tell me ... is it absolutely necessary ... Is that what I am missing in trying to figure this out? How many people actually excersice faithfully, and please ... tell me ... how many people were right where I am, and found sucess with excercising. I really want to know if any of you were sitting stagnant like I, started to excercise, and found that the weight started to come off. I have never excercised in my life, and obviously it contributed to why I was banded in the first place. Tell me please, where do I start. And what do I do. Do I do 100 sit-ups each night, and run on the spot for 20 minutes, and do 50 jumping jacks? I might mention that I have the most beautiful $1000.00 treadmill sitting in my basement collecting dust. What do I do ... walk for 20 minutes ... try to run, and last 30 seconds? PLEASE PEOPLE ... help me out here. PLEASE!:tongue2:
