Stalls do happen. If you don't lose any weight in three weeks, talk to your team. It is also possible that you are eating too few calories—I was, I stalled, my new nutritionist bumped me up, and the weight started slipping away again. How many calories are you eating per day? Are you getting enough protein? Enough liquid? Are you exercising at all?

On October 4 I had gastric bypass, the first few weeks on purée and liquid stage was fine. once I reach soft food, it seem as if I could eat more than I should have. I have message my team and nutrition regarding this and they have told me that as long as I’m losing then I shouldn’t worry. there has been a few times that I would blank out and binge eat, in the course of doing that I noticed that I don’t have any restriction or discomfort when eating. This already have happened three or four times. Obviously I’m aware that I am a food attic and one of the reasons of me getting the surgery was to restrict the amount of food that I could eat and while choosing healthier options which I have been doing ,but because of weak moments is that I am unable to control myself I end up purging on food that I shouldn’t have. Just really has been a mental challenge for me and I feel as if my restriction is not there and mentally have to remind myself not to over eat have this happen to anyone? I am posting this because I want advice or any other alternative or things that I could do to improve this I already go to therapy and trying to understand my relationship with food. Sometimes I feel like I made the mistake of having the surgery.

Alcohol For The Holidays
catwoman7 replied to TeeNeg12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my clinic told us a year - but it was three years before I had any alcohol. But then, I was never a big drinker before surgery, either. It seems like most clinics recommend waiting six months to a year, as you said.. -
How much did weight loss slow down for you?
Orinskye replied to lindseylovesdogs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As others have told you: you go at your own pace. i can give you my stats though. my highest? 330lbs at surgery:294 lbs. my weight now 8 months post op: 204lbs. that’s just over 11 pounds a month…. However I can tell you that there were many stalls where I lost barely anything, then I dropped a ton very quickly. for example: three weeks ago I was at 224 and I was holding steady at that same weight for several weeks before that. I figured I was just too close to my goal weight so it would take even more time and I would need to buckle down and really work at it. Imagine my surprise to find that I weigh myself a week later and it was 214….. then another week later and it’s 204…. now I am rethinking my goal. My goal was originally 195lbs (I’m 6 ft 2”) and that number is at the top of my “healthy bmi” scale. I’m now thinking I can go lower because I’m so close to goal right now and I still have fatty areas. 🤷🏼♀️ but that seems to be my “normal” where I would hold steady for a long period then drop a ton of weight over the course of a week or two…. Then hold steady for several weeks and drop again… -
I am a myfitnesspal paid version fan, though there are several things I don't like. 1. Too many glossy pictures of food. I am trying to avoid all the glamour surrounding food. Food should be a tool to stay alive or prevent illness. Most of the obesity epidemic is due to advertising. The remainder is due to ignorance about nutrition, nutrition labels and the actions of unscrupulous food processors. 2. Much of the data is untrustworthy. People constantly post foods that don't even have all the information on a nutrion panel let alone the correct info. 3. I have to enter the nutrition data myself in my foods section for everthing I eat. 4. Myfitnesspal is not providing support for bariatric people or for people that weigh all of their foods. I have been using myfitnesspal for over 7 years now and lost over 100 lb three times while using it. It otherwise is the best thing out there to use.

Runny Nose When Full
The Greater Fool replied to Bill Potts's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I sneeze. Twice. Two is the number of the sneezes. Three sneezes do not happen. One sneeze is right out, lest there be a second sneeze in quick succession. Of the sneezes there shall be two. Good Luck, Tek It seems to have to do with the Vagus nerve being messed with (cut, nicked, manhandled, or whatever). -
Hit plateau after 4 weeks post op
vikingbeast replied to EsojLabina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Totally the three-week stall. It lasted a bit over a week for me and then WHOOOOOOOOSH the weight came flying off. I'm averaging a bit over 4 lbs. a week now (hooray for the honeymoon period!) and 59 lbs. from goal. I know it'll slow down as I get closer to equilibrium, but for right now I love it. No te rajes!! -
How much did weight loss slow down for you?
Arabesque replied to lindseylovesdogs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At two months I’d lost about 12kg (26lbs) from my surgery weight & by the end of the 3rd month I’d lost about another 5kg (11lbs) so it was slowing by then. But as @The Greater Fool said, we all lose at our own rate. There are many factors that influence your rate of loss: age, gender, starting weight, metabolic rate, genetics, etc. I’d encourage you to have a conversation with your dietician & surgeon about your progress especially if you’re concerned & as you’re still predominately getting your nutrition from protein shakes. What does your plan recommend you should be eating at this point? Personally I gave shakes up from week 3 purée stage - was always my intention. At two & three months I was eating 1/4 - 1/3 cup of food 3 times a day plus a high protein yoghurt or yoghurt drink. Also had started adding vegetables & a little fresh fruit. But we are different in what & how much we can eat eat as we progress. I hear you about the dizziness & lack of energy. Dizziness caused by drops in blood pressure is not uncommon to begin (unless you’re like me & always had a tendency to low blood pressure & then you live with it forever). Try adding an electrolyte drink to your fluids each day to give you a good boost. I carried a bottle of diluted hydralyte with me everywhere for months. -
Hit plateau after 4 weeks post op
catwoman7 replied to EsojLabina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
three-week stall for sure. Happens to probably 90% of us. Just stick to your program and stay off the scale for a few days. It'll eventually break (usually takes 1-3 weeks) and you'll be on your merry way again... -
Hit plateau after 4 weeks post op
NovaLuna replied to EsojLabina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are several thousand posts about something called the 'three week stall'. It happens usually within the first month post op to the majority of people who have the surgery. Your body is simply taking time to adjust itself. Most of the time there really isn't anything you can do, but to ride it out. Stalls happen. Often times, you can change the way you eat to try and start it back up or add in exercise and nothing will change. They, on average last 1-3 weeks. It'll end when it ends. Just stick to your plan and you'll be fine. I've had multiple stalls throughout my journey, including several (3) that went into the 40-odd day range. They are incredibly frustrating and disheartening, especially when you're no where near your goal weight. You don't get used to them, even if you're like me and get them a LOT. In fact, I just got out of my longest stall yet! I thought, 'this is it, I'm in maintenance' and yet after being in a stall for 46 days I lost a pound. Then 4 days later I lost another pound. So my body just wants to lose at it's own pace. You're still in the beginning of your journey and your weight loss WILL pick up again as this stall is extremely common! Just keep to your plan and it'll break eventually! -
How much do you eat?
vikingbeast replied to CurvyGirlJourney's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm two and a half months post-op and while I do weigh my food, I go by macros and calories. I take in 1200-1400 calories per day—BUT I also am extremely active, usually doing hard physical work at least 2-3 hours a day and on my feet longer than that. Yesterday: Pre-workout: espresso with 5g sugar (this is a compromise with my nutritionist) Post-workout: Fairlife protein shake Breakfast: Two scrambled eggs with two small turkey breakfast sausages and an ounce of cheese Lunch: Slice of thin, dense, seedy Scandihoovian rye bread with one of those packets of prepared Starkist tuna on it. Dinner: About 1/2 cup of puréed (not refried) beans and three ounces of chicken tinga with about 1/4 cup of chopped cooked nopales (cactus). I didn't quite finish it. I heated up a tortilla but didn't eat it. Snack: Big slice of Persian melon, didn't quite finish it. -

I’m so over protein shakes
Losefly replied to j McFadden22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried avoiding protein shakes all together? My surgeon doesn’t allow them. They want their patients getting protein from real food. I thought that was odd when I first heard about but after doing this for three months, it totally makes sense now. -
How much weight did you lose in the first 3 months?
Losefly replied to ac0181's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Couldn’t agree more with all the advice above. The goal is a future healthy life style. The first weeks weight loss is not a predictor of that. It’s hard in the first month or so to see the light, but if you work the process you’re going to succeed. We all seem to use the scale to measure success so I get it. I did the same thing and did experience the three week post op stall. I too was frustrated and concerned, but I held steady, it passed and I continued to see success. I’m three months out and have surpassed my original expectations. -
Any October 2021 Surgeries?

That’s awesome I’m so happy. I know thr first three weeks were rough. I progressed to soft/solids and I feel so much better, too! -
You might be in a stall. They happen. They're frustrating. And they all break. Just keep following your plan. If you're truly stuck for like a month, then ask your nutritionist about shock calories—a week of an extra 100-150 calories to get your body to think something else is happening. Are you measuring yourself? When I hit my three-week stall, the inches kept coming off even though the scale change was pokey.

November Surgery Buddies!!!
LurkieKitty replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congratulations to everyone who has been scheduled! I'm hoping it goes well! I had my first week post op appointment today, I've to go back in three weeks for the switch to the soft food diet. I was cleared to start taking multivitamins and also to start the pureed diet come the weekend. I think the first thing I want to try is a scrambled egg mixed with cheese. -
I'm two months out and three small "gulps" seems to be my limit, but I can take those sets of three gulps pretty close together now.

How much weight did you lose in the first 3 months?
cellbell replied to ac0181's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just as the two above said, results can be super variable. I lost 50 lbs in three months but I just saw another post where someone lost 46 lbs in only one month! It's hard not to compare yourself, especially if you're a competitive person, but give it time and stick to your plan and you'll see the scale start moving. Good luck! -
4th day Sind gastric by pass
Jjsdrm1021 replied to Oakgrovelady's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I must be different. I am 11 days out from RNY w/Hitial Hernia repair on 11/4. The first 3 days sucked, gas pain in shoulders and back. After day three, I feel like I could run a marathon now. Zero issues what so ever. Eating as recommended, no issues drinking liquids or protein. I feel amazing. I am also back at work. -
I am 11 days out from my RNY and back to work. I feel amazing. The first three days sucked, but after that, I am ready to go to war again. This show will continue rolling!

I’d tell him no more junk brought in or you’ll be homeless again! You have to take care of you not him! I am having surgery in December and trying to get my husband, our sons 19 and 17 to start making their own food. Today I made them a huge breakfast and 3 hours later my husband wanted a huge dinner - I kinda lost my s*** and told them all they have to start taking care of themselves because I’m not cooking for 2 months. They all three just stood in the kitchen and stared at me. I seriously thought they were all going to cry. But sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do - you know! He needs to respect you - period. -
Anyone Ever Cancel Their Surgery? I Did... Not Sure How I Feel
huskymama replied to You Are My Sunshine's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have my sleeve in December but that being said I went in for my wisdom teeth to be removed 3 times and walked out all 3 times fast forward 30 years I still have my wisdom teeth lol I can tell you from my experience with that - not the same but kinda - get some therapy before you reschedule the surgery. You have something deeper you should deal with and it is okay that you walked even at the front desk. I was in the chair all three times and freaked out so don’t feel bad. But therapy helped me through it. I still have dentist that want to take out my wisdom teeth and I’m like nope I’ve had them all my life they can just stay at this point haha. Maybe the holidays coming up is part of it too. I’m having mine December 22nd and getting out of the hospital Christmas Eve. I still have 2 kids at home so I am anxious, I am pretty positive everyone is. Good luck!! -
no more dairy...ugh! Breakfast?
Arabesque replied to pintsizedmallrat's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Becoming lactose intolerant after surgery is not that uncommon. There are lots of lactose free & plant based dairy products available these days - cheeses, yoghurts, milk, ice cream, etc. You may have to try a few to find the ones you enjoy most though. I use lactose free milk but mainly because it has a much longer shelf life than ordinary fresh milk but also because if I have a lot of ordinary milk I can have issues. I have no trouble with cheeses or yoghurt. I don’t understand the chewing 30 times thing at all & am very glad I wasn’t told to do that. If your food is soft & moist enough you shouldn’t have to chew it down to a flavourless mush before swallowing. That’s why we use blenders in the purée stage or use a fork to mash what you eat a little first. I was able to eat milky rolled oats (instant 2 min ones) from purée stage. Easy to fix at work too. I used to microwave reheat scrambled eggs often (2 eggs lasted me three breakfasts). Can get a bit rubbery though. -
How much weight did you lose in the first 3 months?
ac0181 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had gastric sleeve surgery last Tuesday the 9th and have only lost about 2.5 pounds since then--I managed to lose about 13 pounds on the pre-op diet and am hoping to lose around 115 the first year to get to my goal weight (but of course the timing isn't as important as eventually reaching that milestone). I am trying not to get discouraged by my modest weight loss since the day of surgery, so I'm mostly just looking for some reassurance that weight loss in the first few weeks after surgery isn't a predictor of how much you'll end up losing overall and how quickly. How much weight did you lose the first month, and how did that taper off (if it did at all) in months two and three?
