Your going to be keeping yourself busy! lol I dont know if I am ready to go through all of that. I would like to do my upper arms I have those dreaded bat wings!!! I hate that. My upper arms and belly hold a lot of fat so I should imagine those will be my biggest area of loose skin.

My insurance will cover a panniculectomy (literally just the removal of the skin on the lower stomach that hangs down). No tightening of muscles, no lipo, nothing. So I will be having that done once I hit goal. Once I'm a good 18 months out (or stable in my weight for at least 6 months past hitting goal) I'm going to have a tummy tuck, arm lift, breast lift and augmentation. Not sure if I'll do my thighs or not. Depends how my legs look after all that is done, I guess lol

Flabby skin does not necessarily sag, it is dry and rough to the touch. First of all, the loss of elasticity is noticeable on the inner surface of the thigh and shoulder. As a rule, after 35-40 years, folds appear under the armpits, above the bra. At the same time, a woman's abs and triceps can be pumped up. Yes, the muscles act as a framework and set the relief, but the skin itself loses elasticity due to a decrease in the synthesis of estrogen hormones. When the loss of turgor is caused by a metabolic disorder (for example, poor absorption of iron or loss of protein due to an unbalanced diet), patients complain of dryness and peeling of the shins, elbows and the outer surface of the shoulder. By the way, excessively dry elbows are a sign of endocrinological vomiting. I use the help of specialists https://www.nwcollege.edu/programs/advanced-aesthetics.

yes missing meals and letting yourself get too hungry is bad. So before I go out, I always bring a high protein yogurt and cut up veggies or tuna and crackers and eat on the go. Which also eating on the go after surgery is never a good idea! I hope you just hit a stall and keep loosing until you reach you goal weight!!!

Well apparently all the skin is in the way of the kidneys. So it would complicate the kidney surgery.

Do you do anything special for yourself the night before surgery?
redhead_che replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have sensitive skin so hibiclens was a no for me. I had to wash in dial antibacterial soap 🧼 🤣 -
I brought chap stick, phone cord and phone and biggest shirt I could find and a loose pair of pants.

Fat cells contain and can help create estrogen, so when you loose weight quickly you unlock some of the stores of estrogen. I call it my personal global warming. I’m post menopausal and experienced a fake period, and random hot flashes. I can limit the nighttime flashes by going to bed a little bit hungry. I’m still trying to understand the food hormones and gender hormone links? Anyone else?

Kinda annoyed and confused
liveaboard15 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No problem. Also remember you are reaching your 3rd week here soon. Most people stall out at that time or a little before where you wont loose any weight for a couple weeks or so. I am on week 4 and i havent lost any weight now for about 2 weeks. so dont get disgorged when that time comes. It will pass. -
My husband doesn't want me to have surgery
Momma Sanders replied to Wickerbuni's topic in The Gals' Room
I had my surgery on April 5th. Prior to that point my husband said all the same things. You have been loosing weight u don't need the surgery. You are learning on your own to eat small portions. Your walking, Etc. The list goes on. While he no longer says those things when I walk into the living room he gets up and leaves and retreats to the bedroom. If I go to the bedroom he got to the living room. He barely sleeps in our bed at the same time. [emoji24]So here u go he is 66 and I am 64 I raised 7 children of which he helped raise 3 and now their grown and on their own. I'm lonely, somewhat depressed in the situation. I'm darned if I do and darned if I don't. But then I think why did I do all this??? I did it for me, my health, my life. But what more can I say... Changes in attraction levels from spouse after gastric sleeve surgery
liveaboard15 replied to Love&Light's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I mean we all have things that attract us to someone and stuff that does not attract us. Would you expect someone who really isnt attracted to their significant other to fake it? 3 years tho is a long time to not really show any intimate affection. i would be having a discussion probably within the first few months. me personally i know what i am attracted to and what i am not attracted to. and i have been told by a girlfriend before that they are not attracted to me anymore due to my weight gain. but the good thing is they told me. but still the original poster its a bit messed up for being married that long and only now showing interest when you are loosing some weight. -
Stomach feels bigger and more bloated than before
Nikki@50 replied to Brittneykdelacruz's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thank you![emoji4] It's great to know I'm not alone in this. I do exactly the same as you, I roll my pants down or wear very loose joggers. I wasn't expecting to still feel this way after 7 weeks though. X Sent from my SM-G980F using BariatricPal mobile app -
Extended arm lift, breast lift (with replacement of implants) scheduled!
loridee11 posted a topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Well, I've officially scheduled an extended arm lift as well as breast lift with replacement of my implants (going down from DD to C) at the end of July. This is likely step 1 as at some point I think I'll want a tummy tuck and maybe thigh lift, but my arms bug me the most, and my chest just feels out of sync with the rest of my body now that I'm down (not to mention they have a TON of extra skin). Very excited but also very nervous! For those that had these surgeries, recommendations? I know I'll need a couple good garments that cover me from elbow to waist but open to additional feedback too! Yea, PA is pretty close. Depending on the part. Glad you are digging your new job! That is always a plus. Congrats on making it one onederland, even if just for a day!!! That still means you are super close. I am doing well, happily surprised at my ease of this surgery and the process so far! I seem to be loosing weight quick (my surgeon and nutritionist agree) but I am not trying to get accustomed to it because it will eventually slow down. I just have a lot to loose so it is moving quicker for now. I am for now, just enjoying the ride!

Achieving your goals and rewarding yourself

I don't even know. I can't even buy clothes as I loose weight because I have so many from sizes 5x-1x and 26-14. lol I have lost and gained so much weight my adult life I have a stock pile of clothes so I just go shopping in my closet. I do always seem to get rid of the "too big" clothes because "I'll never get that fat again". Yet, keep all the smaller ones because "I will be that skinny again". HAHA Jokes on me, turns out I just have to keep buying fat girl clothes over and over. I have high hopes this is the last time now that I had surgery. I want a designer cross body purse, but frankly I am cheap. haha I am perfectly happy with my $10 purse. Plus, once I am smaller I will have more options for the cross body actually fitting across my body. Maybe I will finally splurge?? Also, travel travel travel! We love to travel, road trips are the best but sometimes just fly and be there. Depends on the trip. I stopped flying because I got so fat I didn't want to have to ask for a seat belt extender. Even when I was 100 lbs less, seats are still tight for me! I am "broad or wide" whatever you want to call it and tall so my knees are always in the seat in front of me. Maybe I will plan a big trip? I have a bunch of tattoos, so I wouldn't call that a reward for myself. Just another day. Although, I do want to get one to remind me of my journey and my "old self" and to never give up on myself! One that reflects how I feel and what I went thru to get here! (When I get "here") You definitely have me thinking now though!! -
ONE YEAR LATER… my surgery for gastric sleeve was on May 26, 2021… I have lost 90 pounds and still hope to lose about 20 pounds but I feel great. I started at 268 and wearing 2xl and size 20 pants and XL tops. They were all snug. I am now wearing 12-14 (size L) bottoms and M tops. I carry most of my weight from the waist down. My surgery and recovery was not bad at all. I immediately began walking and am back up to walking/jogging 3-4 miles several times a week. I also do reformer Pilates four times a week. That has been a game changer for me. I have had NO reflux and no other issues since surgery. For that I am most thankful. I don’t get hungry and minimal cravings. I don’t really eat a lot of dairy since surgery. It may be the only adverse outcome from surgery. I am looking forward to the warmer months so I can benefit from the fresh fruit and veggies that are available. This surgery was a game changer for me. I am so glad I did it and am thankful for my surgical team and my husband for his amazing support. I am considering doing some skin removal but maybe not for another year to see where we are then. The first photo is from the first day of my two week liquid diet before surgery and a photo taken last month. The other four are a series of photos one of my coworkers took over the past year - date stamped. Wishing all of you a happy 1 year anniversary! Hope we can all continue to give as many success stories a year from now!!!

Achieving your goals and rewarding yourself

I have a lululemon jacket that I bought for a trip to nz 13 years ago and it was too tight. I always told myself I would fit it one day and now I do in fact it's loose these days but I still can't wear it cause it's to hot where I live so a trip to somewhere cold where I can wear it along with some beautiful boots would be a great reward for me . -

Coming up on my 3 month this Saturday. Crazy how fast it goes. Weight is coming off every week. I have on and off days with eating. Sometimes I can barely take 2 bites, sometimes I can eat a cup of food in one meal. But I'm happy with my progress. I really want to start working out again. I manage long walks but nothing high intensity. My arms are getting so saggy. I dream of getting the skin removed on them. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Going to the gym VSG post-op (CONFUSED)
ms.sss replied to Vivis's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was cleared for all exercise at 1 month. With that said, i didn’t start going “hard” until about 3 months post. Up until then, it was all walking. Staring around 3 months i started doing some sort of exercise for roughly 2 hours a day combined (and i mean some sort of activity that raised my heart rate to my optimum level for at least 45 continuous mins and/or some sort of strength training) I was able to do this while consuming less than 700 cals during weight loss phase. BUT i had a ridiculous amount of energy (dont really know where it came from), and I listened to my body and did not push further than what was reasonably comfortable (for ME). Everyone is different and only YOU can say when too much is too much. Try a little bit at a time and keep making decisions on whether to keep going, slow it down, or stop altogether. Your body (and labs) will tell you. And of course, let your team know what you ate doing. Even if it doesn’t contribute to your weight loss, you will still reap the benefits of regular exercise (i.e., FEELING GOOD) Now RE: lose skin. I can honestly say that I was probably in the best shape of my life (with some serious muscles) around 2 yrs post and i STILL had loose skin in areas (well, at least the areas that I didn’t plastics-surgery away). I would have had to gain and equal amount of volume in muscle to replace the fat I lost to fill it all in. And that would have been unrealistic and maybe even impossible. Not to mention, personally, i was not interested in looking like a body builder (respect to those who do). It really is up to you what kind of look/feeling you are going for, and what you are willing to do to achieve it. This early on though, i would give the insignificant opinion to focus on weight loss and nutrition for now. Good Luck! ❤️ -
6 days post op and 0 lbs lost

If you have a calorie deficit you will loose weight. Point blank. Doesn't matter what you eat as long as it is less calories than you burn. Eating healthy is for other benefits, like some health problems. (Heart health) If you eat 500 calories of bacon a day, you might have a heart attack but you will still loose weight. My nutritionist actually calculated out mine at my last appointment, including how much weight a week I would loose based on the deficit. I am eating 17,500 LESS calories a week than my body needs to maintain my current weight. I was completely shocked. As you loose weight, the gap lessons but no matter what, a deficit means weight loss. Don't obsess, it happens if you are following the plan for sure. -
Sometimes the truth hurts

Maybe YOU feel better when people are giving you tough love, but most people do not. Most people find "supportive" comments make them more inclined to change their behavior. And, you were probably struggling with your weight for years before surgery. Did anyone "telling you the truth about how you're doing everything wrong" cause you to meaningfully start eating healthier and exercising more? If it did, you wouldn't have ended up getting surgery. There is so much scientific literature that shows that BULLYING is not helpful. Telling people that they MUST be doing everything wrong or else they'd have great results is NEVER going to make someone change their behavior, and it ASSUMES that there is something wrong with what they are doing. Since you are not their doctor and have not examined them, and you do not follow them around all day watching what they eat and do, you can only assume that she is doing everything wrong; you really have no evidence, and I know there are a lot of people who do everything right and still don't loose much weight. JUST STOP BEING MEAN AND UNHELPFUL -

I completely agree. Between my skin care regimen and my make-up, i'll probably only leave the false eyelashes at home. I bring extra clean undies for a day trip just about anywhere. Seriously. -
Going to the gym VSG post-op (CONFUSED)
lizonaplane replied to Vivis's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That surgeon you posted the video on - he's interested in shocking people and being contrarian. He's not YOUR surgeon, he's never met or examined YOU and he doesn't know YOUR history. I think people here have posted a lot of excellent points. I was not cleared for lifting weights until 4 weeks out, when I was cleared for everything. However, I had not been doing much besides walking and swimming until that point. As @Arabesque said, exercise will not reduce your loose skin. It's just basically something you will or will not have to deal with, but most likely, you will have loose skin. Exercise is great for overall health, and weight lifting is good to reduce the amount of muscle mass you lose after surgery, but it's a minor part of your weight loss. it's better for keeping weight off long term. -
Going to the gym VSG post-op (CONFUSED)
Tony B - NJ replied to Vivis's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Think about this as a whole body approach. We are not just trying to cut calories and lose a little weight, we are looking to lose weight, change our lifestyles and get more healthy. I have watched a lot of Dr. Vong and while he says he is anti exercise, I really think he is referring to doing cardio for an hour a day because it is hard to compensate for all the calorie loss. That said, I don't think he or any doctor is going to tell you to not exercise at all. You have to get the body moving and assist with the calorie deficit, build muscle and get healthy. Walking a few miles a day is NOT cardio and it must be done to get the body in shape and help lose weight and build muscle. In the sense that someone said that exercise does not prevent loose skin I agree but exercise DOES build muscle which can fill some of that void that the fat vacates. I walk nearly 5 miles per day and ride bike weather permitting 3-4 times a week. I have lost 105 pounds in 8 months and 14 inches around my waist. It is working so I am going to continue it. Part of this whole process is weight loss and feeling physically better. Exercise is crucial in that process. -

Yes, it’s always best to follow your surgeon’s advice but you also have to consider what you are able to do. Have to admit I’m surprised you are able to weight lift so soon after surgery given the weight restrictions we’re given. I could only lift/carry 5-10kgs the first fortnight then 10-20 the next fortnight. Many of us are advised just to walk to begin but 🤷🏻♀️. There are lots of benefits to regular exercise but the truth is exercise will only contribute 10-20% of the weight you have to lose. So if you have to lose 100lbs, exercise will account for only 10-20lbs. I barely exercised at all & I not only reached goal but exceeded it. But that was my choice. And exercising doesn’t help to reduce the amount of loose skin you’ll have. That’s dependent upon factors like age, gender, genetics, how much weight you have to lose, how long you were at the higher weight & your weight loss/gain history. Loose skin is about your skin being stretched out & it’s ability to retract back. That’s the elastane in your skin not your muscles. My friend & fellow sleever is a keen cyclist (100-200km a week) has rock hard thighs of steel but she still has all her loose skin. Best advice is to listen to your body & do what you are capable of & comfortable doing.
