Strange Kidney Soreness
Sassygirl06 replied to Bea Amaya's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am thinking the same thing as the other poster....sounds like you might have some kidney stones. I know our gallbladders are more susceptible to stones because of the incredably low calorie intake...I wonder if we are more susceptible to kidney stones because of weight loss, or the high protein diet? Another possibility...have you been taking a lot of Tylenol lately? Either way you should definitely go get it checked out by the doc. good luck! -
I'm 2 and a half weeks post op. Just found out that I really have no restriction and went a little (not a lot) overboard today. I'm supposed to be on 600-800 calories a day. I did that and then kept going prob another 300 or 400. I feel fine just mad that I fell off the wagon. Worried that I damaged my band/stomach. Ugh! Feels like old times again. I've lost 22 lbs since surgery. Trying to be positive. Guess this is one of those parts the band doesn't take care of huh?? I'm worried about tomorrow. I've been known to not stop once I start. Slippery slope. Any advise? Words of encouragement?

2 week follow up appointment-feeling low
Dysruption replied to MsTodd's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
@@MsTodd I'm sorry to hear that you're having a tough time with your surgeon. I can't say that I have been in your shoes, but let's start at the heart of the issue, your food intake. Are you monitoring everything through a food tracker like My Fitness Pal? If not, I would extremely suggest you do so. Lay out your schedule for what you're going to eat throughout the day and don't deviate from it. Measure your portions out in small containers and never eat outside of a bigger dish. You have to remember that your sleeve is just a tool and unless you use it the right way, the results will not be as good as you would have hoped. What is your calorie intake each day on average? What is the ratio of Protein:Carbs:Fat? These are essential to monitoring if you are going to turn it around. What about your activity level? Are you walking 30 continual minutes each day at least once per day? I don't mean to pry and ask too many questions, but let's examine the facts and by process of elimination you can find the problem areas that need to be worked on. You don't have to improve on all areas overnight, I know how hard that can be, but take it one day at a time. Find yourself a goal and achieve it, even if it's a small goal. That way you can build upon that small goal and soon you'll find yourself in a good behavior pattern. I wish you the best! -
I don't subtract exercise calories, but there's probably nothing wrong with it if you can estimate well enough. I've actually added Protein and calories lately because I'm working out more and getting into a weight lifting routine. I think any method is good as long as you're happy with your rate of loss and body composition. I'd rather lose a little more slowly and gain some muscle along the way to help balance things out.

Hi There, My Doc says to try anything that I want and I will find out just what works and what does not. I have found that soda is okay or carbonation is okay but in small amounts. I get a feeling of being bloated that lasts a while. I drink wine but try to keep it to a very minimum! Like Band Groupie says everything in Moderation. But what you really need to know is that all of these tasty drinks are empty calories and you will pay for them in not loosing weight or having it slow down. I have found this to be true for myself. I have slowed way down on the weight loss and I am rethinking my need for Alcohol! Good luck! The Skinny Margarita sounds really really good.

This is WORSE than a stall! Frustrated...
Introvert replied to Introvert's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks Kindle, I was beginning to think I was alone with the artificial sweeteners thing. I kinda count the sugar in those drinks as calories eaten. I guess I just have to be patient. @ TheCurvyJones, how does the sugar make your body crazy? -
I probably waited a couple of months after surgery, but you say you have been cleared. I also have a glass or two, a couple of times a week. I work rotating shiftwork and quite often will have a nice 6am, "bedtime" drink. I never noticed any difference in how alcohol affected me pre or post banding, but as many people say, it does affect them differently. Go slow until you see how it affects you. Its still the same amount of alcohol as it was pre banding. As you can see from below, calories can add up...and no protein in wine, so have some cheese with it. Calories A typical 3.5-oz. glass of Cabernet Sauvignon wine contains a total of 88 calories, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Alcohol makes up 77 calories within the serving and 11 calories come from carbohydrates. No appreciable amounts of proteins or fats are within the wine. Read more: http://www.livestrong.com/article/312718-calories-in-cabernet-sauvignon-wine/#ixzz2Onla0wd9

I dont really "track" my protein with any consistency. Now I do put everything I eat in MyFitnessPal so it does get tracked techincally, but I dont look at the protein number usually just the calories. I'll start looking at the protein figures I think Im supposed to have between 60-80 grams a day. Let me go back and see how many times Ive met my goal in the past 2 weeks. Thanks so much for the tip!

Can Not Getting Enough Protein In Diet, Lead To No Weight Loss??
newme0617 replied to newme0617's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I emailed the nutritionist and she said that right now, the not getting to a certain level of Protein is not a big deal, as it will be moving forward...she said OK to the protein shots.. I am not waiting solids...I am full liquids...I try....but just getting maybe 500-700 calories... I dieted once before and lost130 pounds and I know that doing 800 calories a day made me feel awful at times. So how am I to be able to excerise and be active on 700 calories a day? Just having a "duh" moment.... I think I will email her back and ask about calorie count I should be trying to get in Thanks -
My NUT was suppose to give me enough food to last until Sunday, I have 1/2 day of food left, I have been on an 800 calorie diet that i have followed faithfully...the food was purchased from my Surgeons office.....im 3 hours away so now what do i eat....Surgery is Monday! Its a high protein, low carb, low sugar, high fiber diet and no protein drinks included...

Ive started my training for the Triathlon. Feels good to have a focus. Weight loss stalled. Haven't lost for the last week. I think it is because it has been hot here and I have been reaching for the juice. To many calories. I've been tired lately too. Perhaps because of the increased exercise. I think I will be hitting the pillow early tonight. TTFN

RNY maintenance calories?
Tomo replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm still trying to find my maintenance calorie level. After I got to goal, I added 50 calories per day every month, then 100 calories per day until my weight loss slowed down. I am in my 60s, moderately active, but no formal work out. I'm currently at 1100 to 1200 calories with a few days eating 1400 and still losing weight, albeit slowly. -
Just not interested!
DonRodolfo replied to Unhappysleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to wonder if you're not suffering from depression which is actually common in our situation. May I suggest you see someone. Coming from a person that would frequently start their day with 3500 calories worth of Breakfast, I'm here to tell you the only regret I have is that I wasted 10+ years of my life as a sedentary slug. I eat whatever I want, but I make smarter choices about it. I have more energy than I did at 40 years old and I ran 6.4 miles yesterday (without the need to be in the hospital today ) and I am training for my first half-marathon. A year ago I would have told you that you were on crack if you told me I'd be doing this today. Yeah, you've given up a few things but you have gained SO MUCH more and you need to take advantage of it to get the full benefit. -
So Im 11 days post op and it was my 11 year old twins B day today and I did awesome just a bite of ice cream. well tonight I talked myself into having a small piece of Jello cake ( poke cake with whip cream on top) Now Im so mad at myself. Not because of the calories but because Im not on mushys for another 4 days. It was very mushy but I just dont want anything to go wrong!

How many calories???
VSGandMe2011 (DisneyMomma) posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, fellow sleevers!! I just had a quick question! I'm 6 weeks post op and was wondering how many calories I should be taking in at this point? I'm getting anywhere from 800 to 1000 calories a day....is that good? Is it too much? I just didn't get much direction on calories....just that I should get a minimum of 60g of Protein a day from my dr's office. Thanks a bunch!!! -
How many calories???
VSGandMe2011 (DisneyMomma) replied to VSGandMe2011 (DisneyMomma)'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, good!!! I'm finding that I'm losing better (and feeling better) at 1k and as long as I'm following lean Protein first, I'm not having a problem with going over my calories! It's just SO weird, before surgery I struggled a LOT with a 1800 calorie diet....now I feel VERY full after eating 1k calories in a day! Crazy!! -
It's a matter of calories and for me, once I got used to drinking skim milk I never looked back.

I started walking as soon as I was comfortable which was about 1 week post op. I walked everyday for 30 minutes min. About 6 weeks post op I began cardio every other day. I started out at 30 minutes and within a week was at an hour. I then hit my first stall and was stuck for nearly 3 weeks. Both my trainer and nutritionist and others on this site thought I was eating too little and exercising too much. I was told that given my daily caloric intake of 500 - 700 calories that I should really stick to 30 to 40 minutes of exercise. I just started that in the last week and I have dropped almost 4 lbs since. I guess I learned a very good lesson....I either needed to eat more which for me was not possible or back off some of my exercising time because I could not make up the calories lost and my body went into starvation mode and stalled. Probably more than you were asking..... Good luck!

How Many Calories 8 Months Out to Sill lose?
Butterthebean replied to Lisa's Hope's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry to hear that. Hope it picks back up soon. Mine is slowing down also. Unfortunately the farther out from surgery we get, the more calories we can eat, but out bodies burn less as we get lighter. At some point you either have to lower calories (which isn't reasonable) or increase exercise intensity, frequency or duration to burn more calories. I don't know what you're doing for exercise but if you've been doing it a while it may be time to mix things up a bit. -
How Many Calories 8 Months Out to Sill lose?
Butterthebean replied to Lisa's Hope's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Looking at our sig it seems you're losing 8-9 pounds a month. I'm 8 months out and I'm losing the same so that seems about right to me. That's 2 pounds a week which is safe and healthy, and probably all you can expect being that far out. BTW I eat 1500 calories/day but I'm 6'2". -
How do you stop losing weight with your sleeve?
avilda replied to Shanny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is a matter of BMR... Basal Metabolic Rate At 180 pounds, 47 years old, female I need about 1500 calories a day to maintain my current weight while being totally sedentary. If I am moderately active I need about 2200 calories to maintain my weight. At 130 pounds, I need 1290 calories sedentary, and 1900 if moderately active. SOOOO... Your body will need fewer calories when you reach goal so you just need to make sure you get in about the right amount so you are not at a calorie deficit when figuring your activity calorie need and your intake calorie need. I recommend taking a look at this page to figure out your BMR http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ Good luck! -
Confused....Need advice?
neenee717 replied to Lisa1967's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dont work out nearly as much as I should which is why I still have 30/40 ish lbs to lose. On average when I was at my best I was doing about 4 days per week 2-3 were running for about 30-40 minutes including wamup and cool down and the other day was like zumba which was an hr and I will tell you, Zumba class will burn some calories off you its a great workout to try. I have slowed down becasue I was driving my self nuts with the weighing etc. I have not wieghed in 3 months because of that. I have doc appt soon and its causiing me a little anxiety but my clothes fit. I was a 20/22 now im a 10/12 and down to a Med in shirts. My goal is size 8 on bottom and stay in Med shirts. I do agree to for the most part with the other posts that its a process and it takes time and you should ask your doc. BUT to be honest the doc or the nurses arent just sitting there with a hotline for us to call. When I used to call I got quick answers b/c they are very very busy. Wouldnt get a lot of time til I came in for an appt. Also They tell you in general from dealing with other patients, not from experience. I do like this site to some degree b/c its from people who have been through it. Most of the stuff that really helped me came from actual banded people not my nutritionist, doc etc. My advice to you with this site: EAT THE meat AND SPIT OUT THE BONES if that makes since. My doc who did surgery didnt really care for these sites in general which is why he told me to be careful and take it with a grain of salt, b/c people can be misundersttod or a little rough when they misinterpret. Try not to take the posts and comments of others to heart and remeber they dont know you. That the draw back to online blogging etc, sometimes there is misunderstanding on both sides. Anyway have a good evening -
So I am 6 weeks post band. For the last 2-3 weeks I haven't had any weight loss. I've been keeping my calories under 1000 and was exercising about 6 days a week. So this week I hadn't exercised at all, I was sick for half the week with a sinus infection and mother nature paid her monthly visit. So I jumped on the scale this morning and dropped a little over 2 lbs. What I'm wondering is was I working out too many days a week? What is the recommended days of week? Also how many calories should I be eating a day and what is the limit on carbs and fat grams per day? I was told at my last dietician appointment not to worry about calories but just to concentrate on protein. Which I have been, but I also want to make sure I'm not ignoring fat and carb grams in the process. Any advice would help please and thank you!!!!
