    Finally on the other side!

My sleeve & gall were by the same surgeon and very neat. These with the scrapes are from my hysterectomy. Different surgeon. All were ‘manual’ surgeries but I would think robotic surgeries may be a little more rough as they can’t feel skin, consider texture, depth of flesh, etc. Mind you, you watch those surgery ducu-series and see how they toss you about, push & poke about your organs, etc. Yikes! No wonder we can have bruises and scrapes. I had a pulled thigh muscle after this surgery.

    Had my consult 01/14/25

A few of us have only told our most supportive friends and family before we had the surgery. I personally didn't need any of the negativity that comes from worried others, people who think they know about the surgery or the one person that I know who failed with a sleeve. I find that people will post things on facebook that they might not say to your face. If they did, you would get a chance to ask why they felt you may be the same as them. It is a brutal test to see if you can loose this big amount of weight pre surgery but plenty people have managed it. I had a 3 week liver shrink diet. I cursed that surgeon every day of it. AND I was paying for the privilege. I very badly wanted the surgery, my life depended on it. Thats what got me through. You will have to find the disipline from somewhere and start as soon as you can. Start moving more, walking was my go to. Started small and ended up finding the world. Find a tracker you can use every day. Set yourself a reasonable calorie limit. Log everything you eat and drink. Good or bad. I still do it, I use Fat Secret. There are lots of other free sites. Eat fresh food, home cooked. You know the calories then. Plan your food and buy it in. That way you will never be tempted to get a take out Its a test but you can get there. Keep on this site, keep talking to us.

    August 2023 Surgery Buddies!

Omgoodness. I'm so thankful I'm not the only one! I had a sleeve to mini bypass done on 19th August and at week 3, I developed hives. Initially it was thought the hives were a drug allergy but they weren't. I can have totally clear skin then have a tepid shower and break out again. I break put at work or where my dog lays on my lap. I think of an itch spot and I'll look to find a welt. Lortadine is useless and the mild steroid creams I have are also ineffective. My surgeon has said no to steroid injections too. I'm going crazy with the itch. I wear gloves at work, I flare up, my watch band, I flare up. I've had to change to a heavier fabric scrubs to avoid the "slinky" material ones my organisation has because my skin didn't agree!

    Where my shorties at?!

I’m a little surprised that your doc suggested the sleeve if you’re already having esophagus problems. I’m not a doctor, but my esophagus hernia excluded sleeve surgery automatically. Yes repairing can happen the same day. Be prepared for recovery taking a little longer with a sore and swollen throat. Everyone looses weight and recovers at different speeds. Just keep thinking about how much you are improving your health and quality of life.

    Hair loss

Hi , I'm 5 months post op , I noticed hairloss around 1month a go , when I wash my hair I lose the most , some days I loose more hair then others, I take my vitamins everyday , I don't get my 80g of protein in a day like I should, I'm really starting to try hit my target each day now of 80g , I've added in protein shakes to help achieve this, how long does this hairloss go on for ? It's been 1 month, i really don't want to loose anymore 😓😥😢 I take the highest strength biotin I started taking that 1 month pre op, I'm going to start taking collegen , is this something I just need to ride out ? I know my hair will grow back but I don't want to lose it in the first place

As silly as this sounds....I think I finally hit maintenance. I have been fluctuating from 160-165 for the passed month. My workouts have been great! My skin is not saggy with the workouts, I have my boobie surgery booked and paid for, so now I am working on how fit I can get these next months because I wont be able to workout for 6weeks (which is going to killlll me!)

My NP said anything you can easily cut with the side of your fork is soft. Avoid fibrous veggies and stuff with skins which are harder to cut with the side of your fork so that should be a given. Add sauces and gravies to meats if they don’t go down well. Just chew chew chew and try a couple of bites and wait a bit then go back if you’re not sure. Try one new food at a time so if something doesn’t agree with you it’s easy to pinpoint the issue. Cut things into tiny pieces too.

    Struggling 😔

The resistance bands I use have helped a lot with my arms too though I still have flappy bat wings of course. I get complements about my arms which is amazing but that’s because I don’t wave my arms about too much so they can’t see the saggy skin 😂.

    Struggling 😔

No one sees my saggy, baggy thighs @ms.sss LOL! Wish you could get rid of the lose skin with exercise or weights. Actually it’s mainly my inner thighs so no shorty short shorts. I do wear longer closer to the knees ones which show off my toned knees.

I didn't' think about that, but I'm willing to bet that's the reason. Because staples aren't flush against the skin.
  11. For me I’m just starting to notice that people treat me differently. People just being nicer and going out of their way to help me in stores. Customers striking up small talk conversations with me WAY more often. It’s just weird. I have always been told that life is a fashion show growing up and I sadly finally admit that it’s true. After losing all my weight for the sleeve quickly, gaining it back and now loosing again with the revision I am seriously not imagining this. Some people are just that superficial…a lot actually. It breaks my heart for the heavier me and other obese people.

Winter approaching and I am cleaning out my closet. Realizing I have no winter clothing that fit me properly. I also clean out a whole box of clothing that no longer fits. I tried to look more throughly to see if I can find anything, but looks like the whole closet does not fit me anymore… over 10 years worth of clothing gone. Well, time for some retail therapy. lol I will have to try to refraining myself from getting too much new clothes. So far I bought myself 3 sweaters from Quince and 2 pair of jeans from Gap about a month ago, they are fitting loose already.

    Yoga Supplies and Tips Please

the rolling down is because the leggingd are too big or too loose or to worn out i have some pairs that i still have to hike up during class. the best ones i find are the snug-properly fitted high waisted ones...but the have to fit like a glove! these are hard to find for me, so the next best i find are the low cut ones, where the band sits on way down on my hips (easier to find leggings that fit just my hips vs BOTH my hips and waist i guess)
  14. soooooooo I am about 10m post op and I am getting plastics at 1yr just for my boobies lol I have been weight lifting and I will say it TRANSFORMS your body. I have skin that will never tighten up no matter how much I do and eventually I will get that taken care of, but for now I have no chest area and its really really really bothering me. So FOR ME I am getting those done. I have maintained my weight within +/- 5ish lbs for about 2 months and I will continue to do so forever. In the mean time I am lifting like a mad woman and trying to tighten up LOL

Hello all, I'll get caught up and respond soon. But... did anyone else develop hypersensitive skin post-op? I have two blisters forming near one of my incisions, and I just noticed the skin around my CGM sensor (the thing that monitors my blood sugar without sticking my finger all the time) is also developing a blister. I just noticed these things in the last couple of hours, and I'm wondering if I should say something to the doctor or if this might be kind of normal?

    Psych evaluation?

I am sure it varies for everyone depending on the approach of the psychiatrist and the medical programme but from what I remember I was asked about why I believed I put the weight on, what I had done in the past for weight loss, did I suffer from depression, did I have an eating disorder, how my weight impacted my life, did I have a supporting family and friends group etc. Then I was asked about what I wanted from the operation, he made sure to explain that the op is not the treatment alone and I would have to put in the work on myself and my body, how the op was a tool to help me and I would have to make changes and choices for the rest of my life. He also then asked would I be happy with the changes to my body such as saggy skin as that is what a lot of people are left with. We discussed my weight journey over the years, how I am an organised person so if I am given a set of rules (with a few bendy grey areas 😉) I felt I could follow the changes that would be required without much of an issue and that while I would love to not have saggy skin I knew that would be impossible but that being a healthy weight with less risk of health issues was more important. If you already put down about being schizoaffective on your medical forms and they considered it an automatic fail I would hope that that they would have already told you.

Ugh. It pisses me off when doctors make any of us feel like some number they come up with is applicable to each of us when even we know that all of our bodies are unique and the complexity of obesity. A weight difference of three pounds could be ANYTHING!! i know this is a little different because it chemo but it’s really not because like anything it’s not true weight gain so an example is when I come home from chemo I weigh about 6-7 pounds more than I did that morning and the next day. But everytime, the following day I drop it all. I don’t understand the science but it’s something to do with inflammation that any of us could have for various reasons to some degree. Also three pounds I know for a fact I have lost from a bowel movement. I always weigh myself first thing in the morning and I weigh about 3-4 pounds less than if I weight myself later in the day. . Long story short three pounds is absolutely nothing to stress about and if your doctor does then either smile and nod and tell them you will do better or express how ignorant they are being but whatever you do, DO NOT let that get under your skin!! Your loss is incredible. As @Justarwaxx suggested, Don’t let anyone negate how hard you have worked. Instead Celebrate your amazing progress and if anything use his or her ignorance to fuel you and keep going. 100 pounds is absolutely Amazing and takes real lifestyle changes to accomplish. All you have to do at this point is to stick with it and the rest will come off in a matter of time. The time may vary person to person but it will happen. You’ve got this!!

    May 2024 Surgery Buddies 😁

5 months into GB (surgery date 5/9/24). Ive lost 44lbs in 5 months and have a goal to loose 50 more. Weight loss has reaaallly slowed down to next to nothing. Thise 3 lbs came back and i lost 1! I have started walking more. I do notice I’m craving sweets. I also notice i don’t seem to have dumping syndrome that many of you talk about so i really don’t fear eating things i shouldn’t. That scares me because i think thats part of the equation with this surgery. Today gonna start concentrating on how do i feel. Am I really hungry or just craving something.

Okay so maybe I’m just the last to know and if so ignore me but SPANX makes clothes!! My friend just sent me a Facebook post of some denim pants they make that look like they will be so perfect even as we get closer to goal to sorta hold in any excess skin.

    August 2023 Surgery Buddies!

So a quick update. I saw a skin specialist today who is pretty certain I have Chronic idiopathic Urticaria. I say pretty certain because there's another possibility (with joint involvement), but we have to wait for my pathology results to rule it out. He has started me on montelukast today and increased my fexofenadine tablets to three times a day. After just one montelukast dose, I could feel the itch subside and I was so happy! Imagine how ill be in a week! He mentioned that these hives can be brought on by stress. Given that the mini gastric bypass is incredibly stressful to the body, this ties in well with the onset time etc.
  21. Good evening guys! It's been a while since I lost posted on here, and I'm really pleased to say that almost 12 months post-op (celebrating next week on the 28th), I am officially 54kg/118lbs lighter. My dietician and surgeon have given me a goal of between 70-80kgs, I'm currently sitting at 81kg and would like to get to 75kg and maintain for another 6 months or so prior to deciding on plastics, however, that is another story for another day. I've come on here today - a primarily US-based forum - to ask my fellow UK/European bariatric patients about where you've been looking for your plastics. I've been having a look on here, speaking to people I know who've had WLS and/or plastics, Youtube videos, surgery websites, searching for surgeons etc based on their speciality, however, it would be great to learn more about other personal insights. I had my WLS done in the UK on the NHS - which I am ever so grateful for - however, I had a really bad experience and was severely ill in hospital for a month after, so I'll be honest, the thought of going under the knife again gives me some of the worst anxiety. I can't even go into a hospital currently without feeling anxious and a bit uneasy. I'd love to know some positive stories of those that were made to feel really comfortable, consultations that were really well in-depth, surgeons and doctors who made you feel like you were making the best decision. I've looked into UK surgeons - to be honest, I totally understand why people opt to go abroad (although Turkey is out of the question for obvious reasons) - I've been hearing great things about NordsEsthetics in Lithuania, with really good views and standards. I've also considered Germany or possibly the Netherlands, again for quality standards of healthcare and successful surgery rates. I have of course looked into UK-based clinics and hospitals, however the majority don't necessarily have any better review than others I've looked into - particularly surgeons who work abroad, but were trained and worked in the UK prior, although I am still contemplating whether I would go anywhere outside the UK, for the sheer reason that if I were to get ill again, what would happen etc. I am looking at a full 360/FDL tummy tuck with breast enhancement, as I've been left with a lot of excess skin on my upper torso that a traditional tummy tuck wouldn't necessarily remove. Anyway, any and all opinions are welcome, TIA x

The New Found MALE GAZE! I'm Pissed 🙄🙄🙄

ok, so not gonna lie, mr. told me years ago he missed my ginormous boobs, i had huge boobs even as a thin thing (i actually got a breast reduction when i was 29 because of chronic back pain (i was like 130 lbs at the time). but even after the breast reduction, they were still pretty ample. then the weight gain started and they became the size of my head (EACH!) lol. mr. was in heaven. fast forward to WLS and the resultant deflated balloons, but Mr. was still satisfied with the "handfuls" he could grope. ....then i had a breast lift, which removed the excess skin and tightened them up all nice and firm (and made them smaller). I LOVE THEM OMG. but Mr. went into a mini-mourning....i'm like a 29C right now, jeez...that still respectable! ...BUT he did say that the re-ingintion of my "adventurism" during sexy times more than makes up for HIS perception of my smaller boobs. plus he has also commented many that my confidence and all around relaxed attitude is GOLD. sooo...long story short. boobs or not, its all in the ATTITUDE.
  24. was not exactly in the same situation as u, but here's my anecdotal input nonetheless: i had a breast reduction way back in 2006 i was 34 and was only starting to get overweight (probably maybe 150-160 lbs back then) but had ginormous boobs. best decision ever. my back no longer hurt, i stopped hunching forward, my bras didn't leave railroad tracks on my shoulders, no mote safety pins to keep my shirt closed...all of it! yay! had wls in 2018 (boobs ginormous again as i was then 235 lbs). a year later at 115 lbs, i had a breast lift - kinda like a breast reduction ? but more skin removal vs tissue removal - and again, best decision ever! this time though, it was more for aesthetics. but still a good reason to get one! long story short, the breast reduction in 2006 improved quality of life. the breast lift in 2019 improved how i looked naked. keep in mind though they are different procedures, one is usually covered by insurance while the other is considered a cosmetic procedure and is usually self pay. after u lose the weight, will you still be considered a candidate for a reduction? who knows...maybe, maybe not. personally, (and im just a stranger on the internet so what do i know??) if the large boobs bring suffering to a point that its affecting quality of life, get em done if u have the means and resources to do so. life is soooo much better when aren't in pain all the time.
  25. I had a revision to SADI on 8/7/2024. Lost 70 pounds but then I started chemo for breast cancer that I was diagnosed with a day shy of my 3 month surgiversary. I was told not to lose quite as fast by the oncologist and the oncology dietician so I have since only lost ten more in 2.5 months. Anyways, my double mastectomy is tentatively scheduled for 5/8/2024. During that surgery they remove all the breast tissue and put in Empty bladders they call expanders and then they slowly fill them each week with saline in the office to stretch the skin making room for the implant. The cosmetic dr says that I could take my time and try out all the sizes and go up and down and then do the reconstruction surgery to put in the saline implant when I’m sure of the size I want and I loved that idea because I want to go smaller but I know it’s going to take a while for my brain to get used to it. The problem is that I have to begin radiation 6 weeks post surgery and the process does something to your skin that makes it very hard to stretch so the radiation Dr says I need to decide on a size before I start radiation treatments. Well I don't think it would be a good idea to postpone radiation just to decide on a breast size so I kinda need to know what my goal is right away so he fills it fast enough for me to get there within 6 weeks. At the same time it will hurt worse the faster we go. I am currently a 36 G. I was thinking maybe a 36 C or D would be small enough that they don’t get in the way with exercise and hurt my back and neck but not look too small after seeing myself larger for so many years. Also if I drop more weight and get to say a 34 I would be a D or DD but what if I lose more weight I mean I want to keep going if I can and then I’m a 32 DDD. I was a 32 C when I was younger and I think when I got my implants I went to a small DD but I sorta doubt i will get that small again, honestly. how much weight did you guys lose between band sizes. I was thinking that if I get to 158 I would be thrilled and that’s only 20 more pounds so I know that I won’t get to a 32 at that size. Do you think it’s possible I will get back to the 120’s. I know the last two months threw my pattern off a bit but I was losing steady at 3-4 pounds a week before all of this. Is there anyone with similar stats that can tell me about their experience with SADI or maybe a virgin bypass. My loss trend was similar to that according to the NP at 3 months out. I really wish I could do this after I get to my low weight and stabilize. All I want is to be able to buy bras in a normal store and not have to pay a fortune for lunch lady bras anymore or have my back breaking and poor posture from a too large chest. But at the same time I don’t want to look too small. I figure that I would find the smallest size that I could get used to so when I lose more weight it will probably be perfect but I won’t have time to get used to it like the surgeon and I hoped. 😢 So I get that cup size is a matter of preference but can anyone with similar stats tell me how much they ultimately lost if they were losing 3-4 pounds at 3 months or how much weight they lost between band sizes or 36-34 and 34-32. Or anything else that may help me. I’m so scared I’m gonna decide on a size and my body is going to change but since it’s all implant after this surgery my boobs won’t change with me with loss or gain and I will be way too big or small for my frame.
