  1. At (very very) close to 69, I see the loose skin after weight loss too. Do I like it? NO! But I like the way I look in clothes, and I would not go back for all the tea in China... Besides, one hurdle at a time. Face next, then a little nip and tuck for the body... maybe.
  2. P.S. old timers on this forum are probably sick of seeing this photo, but this is me BEFORE I had plastic surgery. I lost over 200 lbs, so I had TONS of loose skin. See it there? No - I didn't think so. It's pretty easy to hide. And easy to get rid of if you want to pursue plastic surgery.
  3. I’m looking into skin removal now… I’m 15 months out from surgery and went from 330 pounds to 158 pounds. My loose skin isn’t as bad as some I’ve seen, but it’s still uncomfortable. i thought I could live with it but then summer hit with temps above 80 degrees and me constantly wet from the pool or the beach lol. 🤷🏼‍♀️ My insurance has very strict criteria for covering skin removal and I don’t know if I will qualify. I sent the doc some pics and now I am just waiting for a referral or a “no you won’t be covered”. If it is covered I was thinking about getting it done over Christmas break, but if it’s not I will have to save up and possibly do it next Christmas break (I’m a teacher and don’t want to take time off or do it during the summer).
  4. I'd take the loose skin any day of the week over weighing 373 lbs again. ANY FRICKIN' DAY!! However, mine did drive me nuts after awhile (it was easy to hide, but *I* knew it was there...), so I had it removed. Poof! Gone.

Dealing with the Changes... Like Loose Skin

Skin can be dealt with too. Check out the plastic/reconstructive surgery forum. Lots of us on here had a variety of skin removal surgeries (myself included). I agree with @Sleeve_Me_Alone though, even if I hadn’t had the extra skin removed I’d still trade be thrilled to be happy & healthy.

Dealing with the Changes... Like Loose Skin

I am still losing, but already have a good bit of lose skin/squish. I will tell you without reservation, that I would rather have a little extra skin jiggle than be fat and miserable and unhealthy and on the fast track to early death. Do I wish things were super toned and tight? Sure, don't we all? But the reality is, I've carried around over 100lbs of extra weight my entire adult life, I'm not ever going to have the body of a person who was always thin. But what I do have is my life back, a healthy relationship with food, a body that I've learned to love and be grateful for, and YEARS of my life given back. For me, the skin is a reminder of how far I've come and what I've done for myself as an act of love. I would suggest to anyone considering surgery, that they focus on their mental and emotional health first and foremost. You have to be in a good place INSIDE before you are ready to make the OUTSIDE changes. Truly, this is a life long journey and you will only be as successful as you're willing to be, which starts with the head work. I think having done a ton of therapy and getting myself into a good headspace before surgery is what has allowed me to accept the less desirable parts of the process and not get hung up.
  7. Hello! I am prepping for my surgery date, Aug. 17th, and just thinking about things that i worry about. I have seen so many people complain and have regrets due to their skin after, how did you handle that? How did it effect you?

    Needing help

My surgery is scheduled July 14th and I'm getting nervous. My bariatric surgeon instructed me to avoid patches and gummies. I'm going to try the patches anyway better that then nothing at all. I'm going with the patches because most supplements have soy, eggs, yeast, wheat, gluten and plant based properties in them. I'm intolerant (significant bloat throughout body, skin irritations, canker sores, irritability, dumping--mainly due to having my gallbladder removed) of all the above. I'd be curious to hear from others who find the patches effective and the results of bloodwork to back up your claim. Thanks!

    Surgery day questions--Assistance please.

What I learned on this forum. Everyone has their own experience. You will have your own. I don’t think anyone is alike at all. My surgery took forever. My family was seriously worry. It started at 130pm and got to recovery at 830pm. I stayed In the hospital for 3 days. My doctor came and saw me. I was very well taken care of. I arrived to the hospital like 1030am. Surgery was scheduled at 12pm. I arrived and had to register and check in. Then they had me strip naked and wear hospital robe and put all my stuff away. Struggle at the hospital is making that first urination. I just couldn’t urine laying in bed. I had to use the bathroom. Once I did I was up every 2 hours using the bathroom. I had bunch of machines on me. So it was annoying. Being home so far is putting eating a drinking in order and I’m schedule. I’m still struggling with it. I took two weeks off and I will than be working from home for a month. I will be going into the office afterwards. I packed my phone charger and a change of comfy clothes. Loose clothing you want nothing tight on when u leave to go home. Hope this helps but again you will have your own story and experience best of luck.

    First Post-Op Dr Visit

Ya I'm thinking thats what I'm gonna need to do too. Just weigh in at the doctor's office. With my husband having surgery on Monday, I'll be back in the office on 2 weeks with him anyway so I can weigh myself then. I can't continue to stress how much I'm loosing because I'll just hinder my progress.

Do you take anything for your PCOS? The reason many health care professionals say women with PCOS lose weight slower is because the condition is associated with insulin resistance. Metformin helps, as does Spironolactone for the PCOS-associated skin issues. Lower carbs and more protein helps with the insulin swings. If you’re eating the right amount of calories then it won’t affect your weight loss rate, but your hunger can increase from the low blood sugar that happens after eating in patients with insulin resistance. I’m presuming you’re on medicine for Hashimoto’s… Your Dr. is right that there’s nothing to worry about though. Cheers! Source: I work in healthcare and have PCOS as well.

    Low BMI pre op question

I too waited and almost deliberately put on weight to get me over the set BMI that would get the surgery done. If I knew I could have got it done with a lower bmi I certainly would have and I would have had less weight to loose, probably would have less loose skin issues etc etc. Good for you hope all goes well. I was 90kg when I decided I wanted something surgical done about my weight but was told I would have to be over 100kg to qualify as it was at 105 kg my bmi was 38 and only just qualified because I had sleep apnoea and high cholesterol.

    9 Days Post Op

When all your stitches or staples heal on your new tummy, you will start to get full signals again. But till then you need to play it by ear. Some doctors give amounts, some don't. Mine said don't worry your restriction will kick in soon. Early out my nose ran or I sneezed ! Now its whack ! you have had enough. My restriction is fierce and my team say oh that's great you will loose more. I am never hungry. Apparently it does not last and I will regret it when it does. Once you get your restriction you will have to eat slower and chew more
  15. I will definitely do this, I have been interviewing doctors even if I did not realize it. Some I have never seen again. I have always felt like the requests for reviews are just for them to promote their business and not to really see how they can improve a service. I have a newish GP doctor since I recently move to another state. Yesterday, I was given a green light to stop taking BP and cholesterol medicines, the doctor was very happy with my tests and praised me for loosing 70 pounds and how good I look, however he said something that made me think of what has been said on this thread. He said "even your personality changed". I was like "nope", but I feel he sees my person in a different way now, which made me feel sad even if I know his intentions were to make me feel good. I still have a long way to go and if I make it to my goal I have an even harder work to maintain. It scares me to go back to the X sizes with all the X pains and health problems included. Now, knowing that if I fail, some in the health care system will see me with different eyes, it adds some anxiety.

    Post Op Periods

It’s because oestrogen is stored in your fat. As you loose weight the oestrogen is released into your bloodstream giving you a hormonal flush. Heavier/lighter, more/less frequent cycles, increased or decreased PMT symptoms, etc. plus the stress of the surgery & changed diet add to it all. I was menopausal when I had the surgery & all my hot flushes disappeared. They all can back though once I’d lost a lot of my weight ☹️. Your cycles will settle again too. PS - you can also become more fertile. Many surgeons suggest doubling up on contraceptives.
  17. Hi! I'm in the market for some compression pieces, specifically for my lower stomach. I have a hanging apron belly and while everything else is slimming out, I still deal with some serious lower stomach protrusion through tight jeans or even loose pants. It looks fine from the front but from the side, there's like a mound on my lower abdomen, it's so upsetting 😠 My stomach is getting droopy like a deflated beach ball. I have some compression underwear that work well on cleaning up the lines a bit but I'm wondering if there are any compression garments for your lower stomach that really gets rid of that FUPA look if you know what I mean, seriously flattens things out, not just holds everything in place. If so, send me links, store names, suggestions, anything! Thanks!
  18. Collagen peptide is considered an incomplete protein & won’t count towards your protein goals. It lacks many of the essential amino acids. Whether it helps with hair, skin, etc. is another question. I added collagen (& silica) to my yoghurt for about 5 months I think. Don’t think it really did anything though. Certainly didn’t change the texture of my new hair growth. (It won’t stop the post surgery hair loss as that hair is already dead & meant to fall out it just falls out faster for a couple of months.). My nails weren’t stronger. I upped my facials & did some other treatments to stimulate collagen production as well but I can’t say any of it really did anything except a temporary short term glow & plumpness. You might have a totally different reaction. It’s not uncommon for you to look drawn & notice additional wrinkles & facial creases while you are losing. But once your weight has stabilised, you’re eating more & a broader diet & your body seems to redistribute your weight you will look a lot better. I went from being told I looked like death while I was losing in my first year when taking the collagen to looking beautiful in my second year when I wasn’t taking it (according to my outspoken uncle 🙄).

    Best Multivitamin for Gastric Sleeve

I had my sleeve done eight years ago and since I had that surgery, I did well in the beginning, and it seems like after that year was gone! All hell broke loose; I was in and out of the hospital for not being able to keep food down and pain all the time and when I eat, as I swallow my food, I begin to choke and start back vomiting and weight loss is uncontrollable. So, has anyone ever experienced any problems since having the weight loss surgery?

Super happy but a bit confused

Yeah it was tight! But the clothing thing is such a mind freak honestly. I am still wearing some of my old size 20 jeans but I also can buy jeans in non plus sizes too. Like I bought a regular 16 at h and m. I bpught a size 34 pair of jeans at buckle thinking itd be sooo tight and something to shrink into, but no it fits well. I don't understand it at all. I think part of it is loose skin. Like loose skin fits in bigger clothes but it can also be completely squished down in smaller sized clothing. I don't know. Women's sizing is not the best way to indicate weight loss although I've loved getting rid of all my tent sized shirts and baggy jeans. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Food Before and After Photos

Day 5 and I’m pretty sure I’ll have leftover foods beginning week 2 as I still have a serving of the zucchini bake, 1 of the pineapple chicken, 3 of the soup, 3 of brown rice, 1 of congee, and over a dozen eggs and 3/4 a cabbage that isn’t slaw. Breakfast- brown rice congee with crispy chicken skin, 2 confit garlic cloves, spinach and an over easy egg. Lunch- coleslaw made with pineapple juice instead of vinegar and full fat plain yogurt instead of Mayo. Also, 2 pieces roasted pineapple, a mini bell pepper, and leftover crispy baked tofu. Snack- serving of granola. Dinner- a serving oatmeal pancakes, 1/2 cup baked sweet potato, 1/2 cup roasted garbanzo beans, 1/4 cup cucumber pickles and 1 1/2tbsp pickled carrots. Both the carrots and cucumbers were pickled in the same jar with sliced garlic and dill. SO garlicky!

    Tattoo Timing

Another consideration may be your potential for loose skin & where you may want to put the tattoo. You can end up with loose skin everywhere & we all end up with some. I even have some on my hands & fingers. Never expected that. Maybe better to wait until you’re close to your goal.

    Food Before and After Photos

Day 3- I was really missing veggies by lunch time. Breakfast- oatmeal with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and whole milk yogurt. Lunch- tuna, cucumber, tomato, and whole milk yogurt mixed with garlic powder and dill. Snack- roasted chick peas. Dinner- a zucchini bake with chicken thigh, homemade tomato sauce (Roma tomatoes, garlic, onions, and oil) with chicken thigh and mozzarella cheese. After dinner snack- a piece of roasted chicken skin
  25. After seeing your stats. Its more likely a safety issue with having to loose the 40lb before surgery. Here is a video explaining that part from a surgeon. That part starts at around the 2:00 minute mark.
