    Forgot diet plan

Yes and if you YouTube it there is a trainer that does vegan keto so best of both worlds, generally the lower the cals and carb the quicker your body will reach a lipolysis/ketogenic state, cals will be based on BMR you'll only know for sure by analysis, but since you gained not maintained your cals were too high. Try the lower end 1000-1200 Max, lower end of carbs 20-30g daily.

    Forgot diet plan

Ok, thank you. Have tried keto. But couldn't keep it off and being a vegan. I always wanted what I couldn't have. How many calories s day? 1500 or 1200? Sent from my SM-G930U using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. No problem :) here’s the recipe: 1 lb sweet Italian sausage (Whole Foods) A little olive oil (California olive ranch) Most of 1 head of cauliflower A decent amount of kale 2 boxes of low sodium chicken broth 1 can coconut milk Using an instant pot—I used the sauté function and sautéed the sausage with the oil. Once it was sautéed I basically dumped the rest of the ingredients in and put it on pressure cook mode on high for 15 minutes. When it was done I dumped in the coconut milk in and stirred. Later when I’m better off on food I will add in 1 sautéed diced white onion, 2 cloves minced garlic, salt and pepper. If you have enough room serve with the Keto garlic bread I shared above 😂😂😂

  5. I would love to know about the Keto garlic bread. Enjoy your meal!
  6. So first post op food is low carb zuppa tuscada soup. I didn’t have a lot of energy so i skipped on the garlic and onion steps, I also didn’t add salt or pepper which I normally do. For later on I have a recipe for Keto garlic bread (it’s made of cheese dough so no carbs and a decent amount of protien. But since I’m just starting out I measured 1 cup. Instead of potatos I used cauliflower and I don’t taste a difference. Also I used coconut milk instead of regular milk. Thinking of swapping to organic hormone/antibiotic free milk because conventional has always made me sick.
  7. Thank you! Prednisone is the worst drug I've ever had the misfortune of taking. If you look at the photos, all of the stretch marks are because of Prednisone. When it was first prescribed, I was on an ultra-high dose. I gained over 75 pounds in about three weeks. My skin never recovered. A couple of years later when the doctor said I needed to take it again, I said no way. That was when I opted for the first surgery back in 1995. It is the only drug that has ever made me rage. I was a mess when I was on it. Aside from the weight gain, I was so short-fused no one could stand to be around me. Once I stopped taking it, that all went away. IMHO, Prednisone is evil, plain and simple... As for the keto diet, I've tried it and the high fat made me ill and gave me acne really bad. I'm basically doing a modified keto, modified Atkins, which is high protein and low carb. It has helped so far.

    Keto after sleeve?

Actually Keto is high fat, low to moderate protein. Standard ketogenic diet (SKD): This is a very low-carb, moderate-protein and high-fat diet. It typically contains 75% fat, 20% protein and only 5% carbs (1). Cyclical ketogenic diet (CKD): This diet involves periods of higher-carb refeeds, such as 5 ketogenic days followed by 2 high-carb days. Targeted ketogenic diet (TKD): This diet allows you to add carbs around workouts. High-protein ketogenic diet: This is similar to a standard ketogenic diet, but includes more protein. The ratio is often 60% fat, 35% protein and 5% carbs. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/ketogenic-diet-101#what-it-is If you don't have room for anything after you've eaten your protein, then that sounds like a pretty optimal post WLS diet. I guess I'm not understanding what you are asking?

    Keto after sleeve?

I specifically asked my surgeon during a follow up about keto since my sister is doing it and we share some recipes. She said "no keto" due to the high fat. I still share some recipes and many of them are easy to modify the fat content.

    Keto after sleeve?

That’s not true. While keto is cooking with and using/eating more fats it’s main focus is protein , no sugar and no carbs. But as with any diet you can modify as to not intake as much fat and salt. Maybe mine will get better but after I’ve eaten my protein, I have no room for any vegetables. And I was told to limit my carbs to 20-30 per day which is next to nothing because it seems like almost everything has carbs in it. I’m grasping at straws because my surgeons office did a merger and since then I haven’t been able to talk to my nutritionist.

    Keto after sleeve?

If you're truly doing keto, then that isn't high protein, that is high fat/ If you are doing low carb, then that fits with most program's plans of protein first, then non starchy veggies, carbs last.
  12. I am almost 3 months out from my sleeve and have lost 50 lbs which I am good with but still struggle with getting all of my protein in so I have started following the ketogenic diet. Anyone else tried this? Thoughts? Results?

    Vets- your diet opinions please

I’ve been following a Bariatric keto plan that I got from Facebook group called Bariatric keto for women. It is low carb, moderate fat and high protein. I feel fantastic getting back to the basic of our weight loss journey. I am 5 years out with no significant weight gain however I had been eating to much sugary food and was feeling very sluggish, I know weight gain would be next.
  14. Have barely any appetite these days so I think I'm lowkey just starting lazy keto for real, since I figure I don't want food so I'll be less likely to crave carbs?

  15. I’m back to school as a teacher so PLENTY of stress haha, last week was our workshop week and I’m back with kids on Tuesday. And I’m taking an evening graduate class...maybe too much to take on right after surgery, oh well! Right now I’m trying to plan ahead and have meals prepped for the week so I don’t end up not eating for too long or eating something crappy...pinning a million Keto/high protein low carb/ WLS recipes on Pinterest right now and hoping to actually make some of them!
  16. I'm two months out and pretty much everything I eat has to be moist. I stick to a low carb Keto like diet, but I don't do a ton of fat. But I will say when I eat stuff, I use salsa to make it moist or low fat sour cream. I also do no sugar added marinara sauce for meatballs. Also, if I make tuna or chicken salad, I'll add extra pickle juice and I still use mayo but I use the low fat one as long as the sugar isn't high. I aim for things with less than 3g or sugar. Pinterest is my best friend.
  17. Whole 30 is a 30 day elimination diet—it gets rid of all 7 allergen foods, and sugar and a few other things that may be inflammatory. After 30 days you reintroduce Foods. It forces you to eat really healthy. Paleo has no dairy, or grains or processed sugars and such. Go look them up on Pinterest. They’re super good for you—according to my nutritionist and doctors. Don’t go Keto though research is now showing that it’s killing people. As for avocados I didn’t realize that it had that much im not sure. I was thinking about eating the teeny tiny avocados from Trader Joe’s

    Bingeing with Bypass

That's so crazy. I've always been told we never loose our fat cells, they just shrink. So it makes perfect sense. I follow a few ladies that are a couple of years out of surgery and they still track, work out, meal plan, all the things we do today. I track my food everyday. I have to, or I'll over eat, even with my new stomach. I have to see those calories. I also wear a fit bit to see how many calories I burn in a day to know I'm in a deficit. It's hard, but it's the new way of life in order to stay healthy. My sister in law told me she could not do what I did, surgery wise, because she loves food. I told her it's hard, but I love being able to walk without being out of breath, and chase my 2 year old at the park. The benefits out weight the food I'm missing. But honestly, their are so many other options now with everyone going keto or low carb. I made protein brownies a couple of week ago, the girls loved them. But even with that, I have to make sure I have 1....not 5 or 6.

    Hair Loss! OMG!

I am two weeks post op and spoke to my Dr the other day. She told me protein was vital in the early stages to help prevent hair loss. Additionally I had started taking Biotin in January when I started Keto (prior to WLS) - it took about 6 months for the Biotin to kick in and give me much thicker / healthier hair than I had starting the year. Biotin works, but in my opinion, it takes months to get results and if we're not taking in enough protein early on, we will suffer hair loss.

    Baking with Protein supplements

Have you tried any of the recipes on Pinterest? I saw a few yummies, but since I'm not at that stage I haven't tried. I have made keto friendly treats in the past which all came out good.
  21. I recently found Pinterest to be a huge help as well. I've typed in Bariatric Diet, Gastric Sleeve and other items but there are a ton of great recipes. If you are staying low carb, try some of the Keto recipes too. There are some delicious recipes out there.

    June Sleevers Lets Get Excited!!!

Oh No sorry to hear that you were so sick, I'm glad your doing better now and are able to keep things down.... The keto thing makes sense with the high fat causing gallbladder issues. I recently learned that the gallbladder helps break down fatty tissue. So maybe a high fat diet can overload your gallbladder... that my doctoring for the day lol. I did the keto thing for a while before surgery but as i stated before I'm in love with carbs and we have a bad relationship its one sided... I get all the bad stuff out of it. Anyways I really hope those videos help and you get past your stall soon.

    June Sleevers Lets Get Excited!!!

my "water only diet" was involuntary , I was really sick after my surgery I was hospitalized due to dehydration, unable to keep anything down not even water I was throwing up all day. lost 45 pounds from june 12-july 30th. I was told not to do keto after the surgery because of the high fat, can cause ulcers and possible gallbladder removal. no idea how those two work together but that's what I was told by a nurse right before my surgery lol. my husband is on keto he didn't get surgery and looks amazing so it works I'm just worried because of what that nurse told me. thank you for you response!!

    June Sleevers Lets Get Excited!!!

I have a few questions so I might understand your predicament better.... So you had surgery on 6/12.... When did your Dr. have you go on the water only diet? From what date to to what date did you lose the 45lbs? Soooo I'm not a Dr. however I have had several stalls and my Dr. said they would be normal. He told me that my body would need time to adjust in between drops of weight. So ive lost 28 pounds since my surgery on 6/15. 17 of that weight came off the first month, After that i've averaged about 5lbs a month. Now i say averaged but in reality I have stalled for 2-3 weeks then had movement in the scale of a few lbs for 1-2 weeks. Then I will stall again for 2-3 weeks then the scale moves again. I definitely have noticed when i eat more protein rich foods and drink lots of water i get movement in my scale..... The problem is the reason I had the surgery to begin with I LOOOOOVEEE carbs!!! So while i try to have more good days with my eating I don't always stick to the protein first rule! My recommendation would be to not cut out eating.... I think that might make you stall more since when you reintroduce food your body is probably going to try and keep as much nutrients as it can. I have heard a lot of people have success with the intermittent fasting but i think you have to start with smaller hours so your body doesn't go into starvation mode and try and keep everything put in it. I know MrsLingo on here was staying low carb or keto and she had looks amazing. A lot of people in my Dr.'s group have also gone low carb and have had success with keeping the stalls short. I know stalls can be frustrating trust me i feel like I've been in stalls more then I've had movement on the scale. If you get a chance check out Ask Dr. A on Youtube. Dr. Alvarez was my doctor and watching his videos has helped me so much. He answers questions other VSGers send in and you would be surprised how many of us have the exact same issues. His videos give you so much information and they help put me at ease about some of the issues or stalls I hit.

    Diet Preachers

You are absolutely correct. No one diet is right or wrong. As a firm believer in Keto (for myself) it did not work 100% on me. But what I did learn from it was that my body is very much gluten intolerant and my body starves for proteins and veggies. The overall problem for me and why it didn't work was I not only have Uterine Fibroids but I also have Hypothyroidism. What works for one condition is counter-conductive to the other. Meat proteins and estrogen grow fibroids. A plant based diet is not good for hypothyroidism. It was a lose-lose situation for me. Hence the final decision to have the surgery. I'm hoping my new stomach will serve a vessel that will nourish my body and continue to teach me what works and doesn't work all the while losing the weight I've been struggling with.
