Yep, sounds like every side effect I’ve read about. It’s something I worry about: not eating & losing weight only because you feel too sick not because you are making better food choices & establishing better habits. And what happens when you stop the medication? Will you be able to continue to eat the much lower calorie intake needed to maintain your lower weight? My question is were you stalled or had you reached your set point - the weight your body is happiest at? It’s always much harder to lose below & maintain a weight that is lower than your set point. Your body will keep taking you back to that weight. Not everyone loses all the weight they may want to lose. The average weight loss for sleeve or bypass is about 65% of the weight to be lost to put you in a healthier weight range. From the numbers you gave you had already exceeded that average which is something to celebrate. Your choice of course but talk to your prescribing doctor about how to manage the side effects & the what happens after you stop taking the medication.

Struggling… the evil voice is back.

@ms.sss and @Fred in Pa, hear you both on the topic of addiction. I agree with Fred... addiction is sneaky. My brain will tell me "one piece of candy is not going to kill you" and then five pieces later, I start to feel the guilt sink in. I know 5 pieces won't kill me, but it's 100 calories more than I promised myself I would eat that day. Like @ms.sss said, addiction is a slippery slope. Right when you *think* you've beaten it, it comes crawling back out to remind you that you're not in as much control as you thought. Of course, this doesn't go for everyone. But it certainly goes for me. Someone above said, why eat carbs when there are so many healthy options out there? I swear to you, I don't wake up *wanting* to eat carbs. My brain starts rattling the cage with unbearable thoughts of eating. These thoughts invade the movie I'm watching or work I'm trying to get done. Why does my brain do this to me?? I don't know. As my brain runs the tin can along the bars, I find myself wishing I could just have some alcohol or SOMETHING to shut it up. But those things don't work, either. They're just another version of the addiction I've had to deal with all my life. These forums have helped me more than I can explain. Just being able to type out these words makes me feel a little less "broken" and a lot more human because I KNOW some of you will see me. ❤️ -

it may look like mashed potatoes and beef with spices, but it's actually greek yogurt and dates...with spices lol. ever since someone on here mentioned they put black pepper on thier yougurt years ago, i have since preferred my yogurts to be more savory than sweet. i often put other "uncommon" stuff on my yogurts: roasted garlic, carmelized onions, anchovies, cucumbers, bacon, olive oil.. 228 calories for this one. ate it all. -
I'm one of the fortunate ones in which I can have 1 meal plus 2 shakes and some snacks. No fruits, carbs 50 grams or less, and under 1,000 calories. We got Origami Paddlers (combination sit upon kayak/paddleboards that folds into thirds) as part of their Kickstarter (sadly they went defunct a year or so later) but I've always been over the weight limit. I'm looking forward to take them into the ocean!

I tried Snakehead fish for the first time for dinner the other day. I just put the frozen fish in the air fryer with salt and pepper. I topped it with a vinegar black bean sauce before eating it. It was really good. It is not a snake but a fish. It has a very firm texture, not fishy at all. I read that if it wasn't for the name it would be more popular since it has a similar profile to tilapia. I can see that. The name is cringey to me lol. 75 calories for fish, 22 calories for sauce. -

I have been mind craving pasta so I bought some Banza chickpea spaghetti noodles. Haven't tried them yet but the protein content is 11g for a 2oz serving and 190 calories. Have you tried these anyone? I also bought a handheld spiralizer to try making noodles from veggies. I see so many recipes on YouTube that look soooo good, but the real question is do these alternatives really taste good??? -

scrolling thru my pics and forgot a i took pic of last night's dinner. BFF invited a bunch us over to critique her 7 hr long home smoked beef ribs (A++ btw). ate all the meat off one bone (and i mean ALL, i was two fisting that sucker to clean it off completely!); a bite of the garlic bread (too hard for my liking); and about 3/4 of my side roquefort and pear salad (BFF is a chef supreme). and all the red wine in my glass before eating. MFP says 649 calories for everything shown, but i really don't think the beef rib was worth 330 cals. but whatevs. its worth noting the meal another friend of mine is also captured in the background. as you can see its very similar to my portions...only diff is she has a couple tbsp of baked beans as well. she ate all if hers plus a brownie for dessert. she is one of those never-overweight, naturally slim people who doesn't particularly watch WHAT she eats, just doesn't eat much (compared to others) cuz she just doesn't eat much....but she will eat ANYTHING, in smaller amounts. no one ever comments/commented on how little she eats, vs the ridiculous amounts of questions and words i would get in the immediate months post wls. but now, as its been quite a while now since i've been eating just like her, and no one even bats an eyelash anymore. thank goodness! -

Yesterday’s food (only the things I took pics of but there were other foods throughout the day) Parfait w/peach, blueberries and strawberries & Salmon pate w/ crackers, baby lettuce and baby carrots (ate about half) Total calories for the day was about 1600. I never track total calories anymore but I often spot check certain meals to see how much protein I’m getting. It was wild to see that I tracked about 60g protein but over 100g carbs. I’m not limiting carbs by any means but the fiber content was well below 28g so I know I could have made better choices (I’m look at you muffins and biscotti 😂) -
And so it begins...day 1 of my pre-op liquid diet...
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok, so day 4 sucks, too. But mostly because I have headaches, dizziness, and major fatigue. I'm only getting around 600 calories per day, which at almost 14 months out from my original surgery, is a problem. But there's nothing I can do about it. I drink 3 shakes per day, unsweetened tea, protein water, eat sugar free popsicles (for the calories at this point), and sugar free jello. I'm over the "omg I want foooood" part, but now it's the side effects of not enough calories. UGH.... I'll be glad when I get this surgery and can heal and move on already!!! -

High protein meal/snack ideas, Hair loss, overeating
LindsayT replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like roasted edamame and chickpeas for a crunchy snack once and a while. They are a bit calorie dense but healthier than chips. They also give you a boost of protein (especially the edamame) and fiber. Low fat/ fat-free high protein yogurt is a great choice. Low fat cheese (I like the babybel). Raw veggies with dip. The dip you'll make is fat-free plain Greek yogurt and dry ranch dressing powder to taste. Great snake and another source of protein. For a treat, bryers ice cream makes a carb smart version that's pretty tasty, i get the fudge bars, which are around 60 calories, but limit that. Sugar-free pudding, jello, and popsicles are better. Another tasty treat is sugar-free redi whip with strawberries. Eggs are great for breakfast and so versatile: add a bit of reduced fat cheese or turjey sausage or low fat ham, make a crustless quiche, or boil; the ideas are endless. Tuna/chicken/egg salads are great for lunch or a quick dinner; just mix with low-fat mayo and whatever else you like. When I make them, I do enough for a few days and have lunch already made for the next day or two. If you do decide to eat pasta or rice, opt for whole wheat or protein pasta and brown rice on occasion. We had Italian the other night, and I literally only had 1/4 a cup of whole wheat rigatoni with my protein and sauce, and that was way more than enough. I ended up only eating half of my dinner (about a third to a half cup and finishing it a couple hours later for a snack). Leftovers are a great option for lunches and sometimes breakfast. I find that I plan those better/healthier than my other meals. I agree with some of the other suggestions, such as talking to your dietitian. They can offer you specific guidance and support. Another idea to try is therapy to understand why you are making the choices you are. It may only be 1200 calories, but the choices are poor with poor nutrients. Us RNY folks need to be on top of our nutritional game between food choices and vitamins and supplements. The habits you are building now will stick with you and may lead to an undesirable outcome in the future. I wish you all the best moving forward. -
High protein meal/snack ideas, Hair loss, overeating
Fred in Pa replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In regards to your diet, I would count the calories tightly. There are a lot of empty calories in what you described, specifically carbs. Go online and determine what your BMR is and then compare to calorie intake. Make changes as necessary to obtain a calorie deficit. You’d surprised at what adds up and how easy it may be to remove a few small items to get to negative. Count every dollop of sauce, every vitamin ( yes, vitamins add calories), powders, etc. Are you exercising? That helps your metabolism as well. Finally, losing slow is still losing and succeeding but really try to eat clean and lose some of those empty calories. -
High protein meal/snack ideas, Hair loss, overeating
Erin18 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey people! 4 months and 3 days post RNY. What meal and snack ideas can you give me that are high in protein? I'm still not hitting my goals and currently thinking about drinking protein, turns my stomach. This happened in the beginning aftrr surgery as well. Any good recipes? I know there are recipes on here somewhere, but what are your top high protein foods? I need to start planning my foods ahead again. How long did everyone's hair loss last? When I had lapband in 2009, my hair loss wasn't as bad as it is this time. My hair gets SO tangled! Probably because this time my hair is lightened and colored with fashion colors. But, when did the hair loss start to ease up for you? I feel like im overeating. I feel like I could have lost a lot more weight by now. If it's not overeating then it's high calorie foods. For example, I can eat almost a who bagel with a serving of cream cheese and a 1/2 to a cup of cherries for breakfast. A lot of the times I skip lunch because I eat whatever I have at breakfast at that time. Then if I have a snack yes I'll eat a junk food item like a serving of chips or a cheesestick and then at dinner I'd have the 3 ounce of chicken, with 1/2 cup veggies and spoonful (the ones you cook with) of rice. Of course I'd have regular BBQ sauce or chic fil a sauce (a serving) and a serving of butter on my rice. Then awhile later before I get in the shower I'll have one or two of the following; a popsicle, another serving of chips, popcorn, yogurt, ice cream sandwich (yep I shouldn't be eating this. No, it hasn't made me sick and no I don't have it often), a cheesestick, etc. Or sometimes I'd eat some cereal if I know it doesn't make me feel sick. When I write it out, it doesn't look like I'm overeating, but when I track it, it comes out to be around 1200 calories. I shouldn't stress, but I need to make better choices and maybe make schedule for water intake and food intake. PLEASE, no rude/mean replies. Please be helpful. I want to succeed, and right now I feel like I'm not gonna succeed eventhough I'm not gaining, I'm still slowly losing. Thanks for your time! -
I'm more worried about calories, protein, and liquid. I obsess over making my goals each day. It's getting to be a bit much. The thought of dumping also gives me a ton of anxiety.

I Am Not Really Seeing The Weight Loss I Was Expecting
TRAVELRN replied to Hey Man's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can only speak for myself. That being said I’m in the US and I had to go on a “diet” before my surgery to yes decrease the size of liver. I had to stop stepping on the scale as it will drive you batty. Focus on your meal plan. 3 weeks is short period of time and it’s not expected to drop off that fast. Weight loss is only one goal. Water is one of your goals, and meeting your calorie and protein numbers is another. Your comments are kind of unusual for someone 3 weeks out tho. Usually it’s about other things, nausea, not feeling hungry…etc. if you’re skipping eating that will effect your weight loss. If you follow your meal plan to the letter you will see the difference. You didn’t really mention what stage of your meal plan you are on now (liquids, soft, purée). Best of luck. -

when pantry is stocked with candy snacks, you will inevitably eat the candy snacks. my afternoon snack: 1/4 a maple butter tart, 2 sour keys and 1/2 cup cashews. 332 calories for whats shown. ate all the nuts and gummy candies, but literally had a LICK of the butter tart to check if it was too sweet and yep, it was (i mean, its a butter tart! what else would it be but too sweet?! but i always hope it won't be). no one around to hand it over to, so i just tossed it. so sans partial butter tart, calories updated to 231 cals for what i ate. -

yep, i find that the burger patties i make at home are much more calories than the ones i get at fast food restaurants! well, at least based on said restaurant's posted nutritional info. Granted, my burger patties are probably 4-5 times the size of fast food places. also the restaurants could be lying!!! -

How long is a protein supplement needed
pintsizedmallrat replied to LindsayT's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I still have to in order to meet my protein goals and I'm 21 months out. My capacity is quite a bit lower than most people at the stage I'm at. I also quite frankly don't really like meat all that much, so I supplement in order to be able to eat more salads/veggies. I do usually have a bar/shake/some other protein infused item (I really like the Legendary pastries, 180 calories and 20g of protein!). -
How long is a protein supplement needed
Jeanniebug replied to LindsayT's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Once you're able to get all your protein from solid food, you really need to stop with the supplements. It might be a few months before you're able to eat that much. As we lose weight, our protein requirements - like our calorie requirements - drop as well. My protein goal is 60 grams per day. -
Whenever we lose a lot of weight in a short period of time (15 pounds in 16 days), a substantial amount of the pounds lost is actually water weight. To lose a pound a fat a day, you would need to burn an additional 3500 calories above what you are consuming, which generally is only achieved consistently by peak athletes. If you are sticking to your program's plan, you are still losing fat pounds during a stall as your body regains the excess depleted fluid. Once your body reaches healthy fluid levels, your scales will start reflecting losses again. Please don't get discouraged. For most of us, weight loss is not a steady decline but achieved with periods of losses and stalls as our bodies adjust to the changes.
-
Stalls are very common & you can have several of them while you are losing. When they occur & how long they last can be quite different though yes the first tends to occur around week three & the usually last 1-3 weeks. It’s the time your buddy uses to reset your digestive hormones & enzymes, metabolic rate, etc in response to your weight loss & new needs. Your stomach is a muscle that stretches & contracts but it will take years of overeating to stretch it out to where it doesn’t contract as effectively & is larger. As for portion sizes, it’s best to check with your dietician for their recommendations for your needs. Some people are given caloric goals as well as goals for all macros. I was only given protein & fluid goals & told 1/4 to 1/3 of a cup from purée slowly increasing to a cup by about 6 months (my goal weight). The majority of that portion should be protein. I was only eating a bare 900 calories at 6 months but many are advised to eat more than that from months 2 or 3. You’ll discover your own portion sizes too i.e. the portion your tummy will tolerate of specific foods at a sitting. Some foods sit more heavily in your tummy or take longer to digest & are more filling so you’ll eat less of them. Some are digested more quickly so unless you are aware of your portion it can be easy to eat more than you need.
