    Low weight loss

Hello Carol, welcome into the forum. So that we can help you we need a little more information. How much did you loose pre surgery? What is your weight now? What are you eating, how many calories a day are you having? Next to your name at the top of the page is a little drop down box where you can fill your information in if you wish

Gonna make sure I follow the rules

It still happens to me at three years. Not often but sometimes there are just circumstances &/or distractions which cause you not to eat mindfully. Then your body really reminds you you’ve done the wrong thing. Groan. A couple of months back I was staying at my mother’s & we were having a ‘discussion’ and yep ate too fast & got the foamies. At least me rushing to the bathroom ended the discussion. 😉 Bet it was the plum skin that caused your experience @Tomo. Just a little too coarse & got stuck.

    Binder? Or shapewear

I got sent home with a velcro binder that really helped with the soreness after my surgery. I wore it for about 2 weeks. I bought a post partum binder recently since I've lost 100 lbs and my stomach is full of lumpy saggy skin. It might be a little too small because it squishes my loose skin upwards giving me back rolls so I'm not sure it's the best one. It's also super short and I have a very long torso so I need to keep looking. This is what it looks like. If anyone has found any good shape wear for stomach loose skin, I'd love to know too! Binder? Or shapewear

A binder is sufficient for after wls, it's only there to provide comfort with moving mostly. Shapewear is used after skin removal surgery.
  5. I worked out with a trainer last time I "lost weight on my own" he also said I wasn't eating enough at that time(600-900 cal a day. Had me increase to 1200 cal. a day and I started loosing like crazy. My understanding is when you work out really hard and don't eat enough to feed your body it goes into starvation mode and stores everything it can.

  7. I brought loose fitting pajama pants to wear under my gown. I just slept in them but if that’s not comfy you may want a robe to slip on when you walk. I also brought an extra long phone charging cord and was glad I did cause outlets are sparse.

    August surgery buddies!

I justrealized when this thread started, a while ago. In Connie88 initial post she said maybe she wouldn’t do the surgery so my comment today is kinda outdated but I’m still gonna post!  Hi Connie and Enough😁 i have my surgery scheduled for August 29 and i can’t wait. Excited!! I think i have the same nervous excitement as y’all. Connie, you should do the surgery… you can do it! 100# is hard to loose and without the surgery it’s gonna be very hard, maybe impossible. You are at the weight you are because you can’t do this by yourself ( same with me) For me, i NEED this tool to help me. Anyone I’ve ever talked to about the surgery has NO REGRETS! If you need friends to support you, you’ll find those here ♥️ you got this girl. Imagine the way you’ll feel when you lose the weight, less body pain, less fatigue. More energy! Hope this burst of cheer lifts you lol
  9. I brought a loose fitting t-shirt dress to wear home, just like Tomo did. At the hospital, I slept and walked the halls around and around, in between them taking bloodwork or checking vitals every 2 hours. The next morning (one night stay) after showing that I could drink all of my fluids, I was discharged early evening. ⭐ Items I brought in small overnight bag - you won'r need much! ⭐ 1. Light-weight robe (walking the halls) 2. Slippers 3. Phone, phone charger 4. Toiletries (toothbrush, paste, shampoo, conditioner) 5. Loose fitting cotton dress to wear home/extra underwear 6. If you don't already have one, it's definitely worth investing in a heating pad for when you get home. It helps the soreness of your tummy SO MUCH! The hospital will have one for you to use while you're there. The dress is Universal Threads Knit Tank dress from Target ($15) . Sooooooooooo comfy!!!!!!! Here's the thread in case you want to check it out. https://www.target.com/p/women-39-s-racer-back-knit-tank-dress-universal-thread-8482-green-m/-/A-84777392?ref=tgt_adv_XS000000&AFID=google_pla_df&fndsrc=tgtao&DFA=71700000014846111&CPNG=PLA_Women%2BShopping_Brand|Women_Ecomm_AA&adgroup=SC_Women&LID=700000001170770pgs&LNM=PRODUCT_GROUP&network=g&device=c&location=9031508&targetid=pla-300925489891&ds_rl=1241788&ds_rl=1246978&ds_rl=1248099&gclid=Cj0KCQjw54iXBhCXARIsADWpsG84noB9hlvFUs5V9l4BFt4xeDVXndX96CxW8Ht5cMV-UYdDMiivD2oaAubsEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds * Tip - the more you walk, the better you'll feel and eliminate gas pains Good luck to you!!! You're going to do great and be so happy to be on the other side!!!
  10. No one on my Dr's office asked me what the goal weight is. I want to be healthy, I'm thinking 120-140. I was 120 after graduating from high school and after having both kids. I'm losing very slow (insulin resistance) I've heard after the "honeymoon" period its harder to loose. So I'm trying to keep my mind open. My surgeon said the average person losses 50 pounds, that would put me at a much healthier weight, but I would be chubby still.
  11. I think fitting back into clothes I hadn't worn in 2-3 years and have them even loose is a wonderful feeling!
  12. Hey there!! I was also sleeved December 22, 2021. I’ve been loosing very slowly but that’s ok. I’ve lost 41 lbs. about 50 more to go. My blood pressure is a lot lower which makes me happy. My taste buds have changed a little. I didn’t eat much fast food but when I do now I am disappointed in the taste. Don’t care for potato chips anymore or French fries, I know, weird. I’m still trying to adjust my food intake and getting enough water. I drink a lot of those hydration packets. I feel so much better and the surgery was the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. I wished I would have done it years ago. It was nice hearing from you.
  13. I never sweat anymore. It is kind of weird, I have never been a huge sweater but now it's never. I had to prepare a hall for a Celebration of Life. 32 Steps, outside in 100* heat. Carried stuff up and down, heavy stuff. cases of sodas/water, platters of foods, all kinda of stuff never once needed a break. Never got too tired, didn't even really loose my breath. I lost count at 20 trips between carrying things in and then out at the end. The next day, my knees didn't hurt. Nothing hurt, I couldn't even tell I went up and down those stairs so much!

    Unsupportive Husband

I have been a member of this forum for about 18 months and you are now the fourth woman that I have come across on here having this problem with family. If you want this surgery then you will have a fight on your hands. Its going to get dirty. For their own reasons they don't want you to change. Personally I agree with you, you will continually gain and loose the same weight over and over again, I did. Its heart breaking. The people on this forum will help in any way they can. If you can get to do this, you wont regret it.

    June 2022 surgery buddies

Had surgery 6/28/22 245 day of surgery today 215 . Super happy of the weight I been loosing the hardest part for me to get over was the cravings . I’m doing much better now . Premier protein in the morning one egg white bite from Costco 3 hours after protein I’ll have Greek non fat yogurt . After that 1-2 popsicles then evening I’ll have another protein .
  16. I chose the Loop DS (virgin surgery not revision) for myself because of what the surgeons themselves were saying about common issues with the original DS (diarrhea). That was the only reason I choose the Loop DS lol. I met my goal weight (even if I'm currently up 6 pounds due to meds I'm taking, but I WAS up 18 pounds and dropped 12 so... I guess I can deal with 6 pounds. I'll lose it eventually. Or try to.). If I had to do it all over again... I would probably do the traditional DS. Simply because you lose a tad bit more weight with the traditional (according to my surgeon. It's supposedly only a tiny bit, but still) and I wonder if I'd picked it if I would have been able to get closer to a 'normal' BMI. I'm still technically 'overweight' but I figure if I ever do skin removal I'll probably lose a good 10-20 pounds of loose skin and even if I'd STILL be 'overweight' at least I'd be in spitting distance of a 'normal' BMI (I have no idea why I'm putting it in quotations...😓 I can't stop myself 😅). Anyway, you go with your gut instincts. The surgery is for you and you're the one who has to live with it so trust in whatever you decide to do.
  17. As others said, not much. I slept overnight, woke up and went home. I would say something to wear that is really loose (I brought a large Tshirt type of dress) that you can just throw over your head to wear home, a small pillow waiting for you in the car to hug if you have a bumpy ride home.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

8 months in. More days that I feel good than bad. Weight loss slowed, probably due to summer vacations and not watching what I'm doing as well. Some days I feel like I "don't hit my limit "... in other words, I feel like I ate a lot today and the last few days. That scares me a little. I feel like I need a good reset. That said, I'm down about 125. My clothes are still feeling looser... to clarify, my new replacement pants are getting too loose. My ring is almost falling off. My arrhythmia... the reason for the surgery is nearly completely gone. So, good stuff. My bellybutton gets irritated and seems to weep... gross... I'm not sure why. Will be talking to the nurse tomorrow. Need to just refocus and reset though. I'd like to lose another 10 in the next month which will require me to get back on track... I'm in a wedding. I have 2 more vacations coming up, so I gotta be good. I should be able to get more activity in which will be a plus. Walking and hiking. Good luck everyone!
  19. recliner, cane, warm fluids for when home. Honestly, very little for the hospital. Phone and charger, slide on shoes/sandals, something loose with elastic waist to go home in. I actually wore the clothes to the hospital that I was wearing home. I wore my sandals and I had my phone and charger in my purse. Super easy.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Been 3 years out from my 2019 surgery, I lost originally 109 pounds weighed about 147 pounds and that was after my skin removal surgery. Then I peaked up back to 169 now currently and I am very comfortable at this weight. I don’t look like I’m dying since I was soo skinny looking because I’m super tall about 5”11. I do occasionally eat pizza and some rice here and there but I’m back to normal eating. I don’t have big plates but I don’t much often and if I do I weigh the snacks and use the calories to the T. It’s true what they say that you gain about 20 pounds or so after a few years but again I’m healthy and have managed my weight consistently around 169ish for the past two years now so I suggest people don’t beat yourself up because of it. Doesn’t help I’m over the whole 30 years old and your body starts to slow… that’s very very true. But even with it I’m okay. It was not always rainbows though… I do have days where I will experience dumping, and my nutritionist said that gaining the 20 pounds was better for me because after surgery for a whole year I had been in and out of the hospital for low blood pressure, fainting and my heart rate would drop below 50 bpm so since then I have yet (thank god) to be back in the hospital. So I would say it’s really a mind set for how you take this tool your given and use it to fit your life not anyone else’s. mentality it is a challenge because I wish the surgeries didn’t leave huge scars which I would show if anyone wanted to see how the fleur de lis surgery looks like. But in all I look at it as I can fit my clothes, look good in them and I feel amazing most days 😁 I hope I wasn’t too all over the board with my experience lol

    Ugly, boring, and weak

I’m with @ms.sss: taboo schmoo-boo. Go the Botox. Honestly, I’m not a fan of the idea of young girls & young women getting Botox & fillers but once your life starts to show on your face I think it’s certainly worth exploring. I got my first lot last year (Dysport not Botox) & I love it. I actually went in to explore filler but because I have a bee allergy was advised against it (the neutraliser causes the same reaction in your body as a bee sting so I’d likely have an anaphylactic reaction). I also am ‘under dosed’ so I still have some forehead movement & I feel it looks more natural. I also get it in my chin to reduce the length of some of my marionette lines & reduce the old lady chin dimpling. The only down side is mine doesn’t last long - about 2 months as I process it more quickly. ☹️ But the only way to truely get rid of the droopy facial skin is surgery & I’m not interested in that … well at the moment. Ha! I look at my face & I think yeah I have wrinkles & droop but I am 57. I’m supposed to have them & I’ve earned them. But I have cheekbones now, one chin, my eyelids aren’t as hooded, I have a jaw line & people say they can see the family resemblances with my brothers, nieces & nephews. Best of all is that I actually look like me now. My face isn’t distorted by layers of fat. That’s how I look at it though.

    Ugly, boring, and weak

just realized I said the loose skin was really bad on my arms and legs. I meant my stomach and legs. My arms have some but I never had really big arms for my size so it doesn't bother me there. But my stomach and legs are bad, and my back around my waist and upper back. I'm not gonna lie. Sometimes I look in the mirror and it makes me feel sad. After losing so much weight, it would be nice to look in the mirror and see a nice, toned body, but whatever. My face is actually what bothers me most, because I have the under eye bags that run in my family now and wrinkles I didn't have before. I always heard "you have such a pretty face if only you'd lose weight." Well now I don't have that. Sigh. But my husband still thinks I'm beautiful, although he always has even at my highest weight. I've done so much soul searching over the years and there was a time that I felt that no matter what accomplishment, I would never be good enough because I was still fat. At some point I realized that was ridiculous and accepted myself fat or not, so I went into this with a pretty good attitude about my body, but that doesn't mean I don't look in the mirror sometimes and think wtf!!?! But then I put my size medium or large clothes on and feel pretty darn good, because I wear an AVERAGE size now. Like you, I'll probably not get plastics, except possibly a panniculectomy because I have issues with that area. I have a consult next month. The rest of it, I'll just have to live with. And like you said, it is better than those extra 200 pounds I was carrying around. I am proud I was able to lose over 200 pounds, and I know you know that feeling. There aren't a lot of people who have that much to lose! I think it sounds like you had realistic expectations and again, what you have accomplished is amazing! Taboo schma-boo. Lol. I am pro-botox and fillers (the natural looking kind, not the exaggerated kind!) Makes a world of difference, and if its done right, people will just say you have nice skin, ha! BUT…it does get expensive. It doesn’t last forever so there is regular/ongoing maintenance, and it adds up. I’ve likely spent more at my medi-spa than the cost of a facelift. Sigh.
  24. BigSue

    Ugly, boring, and weak

It's kind of hard to describe, but even though I'm tired and weak, it is offset by the fact that getting around is so much easier without the extra 200 pounds. It is a different kind of tired, I guess. I wouldn't say I have a lot of saggy skin on my face, but I look older because my face just looks boney, compared to the youthful chubby cheeks I used to have. I didn't do this for looks, but if that is important to you, weight is the #1 most important thing to how most people perceive your looks. No matter how saggy your face gets, society, in general, is so fat-phobic that people will still think you look better thin than fat. I don't think skin removal surgery is a must, but I do think it's important to be realistic and know that just because you weigh a lot less doesn't mean you'll necessarily have a bikini-ready body. It's good that you are thinking about these issues before surgery! I see so many people on this forum who have the surgery without really knowing what to expect and having a lot of unpleasant surprises. I think if you make your decision with your eyes wide open, you can be confident that you did the right thing even when things are rough.
  25. BigSue

    Ugly, boring, and weak

Yeah, I didn't do this for my looks, either, but sometimes it can be jarring to see myself. I also have that sense of not recognizing myself (and yet, when I see pictures of myself from before, I also think, "Woah, was I really that big?!"). I never planned to have plastic surgery. I like to think my expectations were pretty realistic, and I knew that I would have loose skin but that it would be a lot better than having all that extra weight. I considered it for a while because of all the people on this site who have done it and are glad they did, but now I'm back to thinking that I just need to remember how far I've come and that I'm lucky to look the way I do now. It's cool to find other people who have come as far as I have because there aren't a lot of people in the world who know what it's like to lose 200 pounds!
