    Morning tightness

It depends for me. Some mornings I can have breakfast after coffee and sometimes I cant but I can at least get in a greek yogurt or oatmeal. I have to eat something in the morning because no shake is going to keep me until lunch time.

I Am So Lost On Post Op Diet. Please Help.

At 3 weeks I was on a soft diet. I could do sugar free Jello (mix it with non-fat greek yogurt to get more Protein out of it), yogurt with very soft fruit (no skins or big chunks), soups- again, no big chunks, very soft "meat salads" such as tuna salad or chicken salad. cottage cheese, boiled eggs, soft scrambled eggs, etc. Check with your doctor though... many go slower than mine did with food progression.

    Hungry Help

I had my surgery on the 16th as well. I wouldn't eat any solids until your doctor allows you to because after going through this you wouldn't want to have to go through it all again to have something fixed. I'm on full liquids right now and I was starving for the longest time until today. I got some soup from a Chinese restaurant and it was extremely satisfying (strained of course). I was told I can also have things like instant mashed potatoes, pudding, applesauce, and yogurt so if you're on full liquids maybe some of those might satisfy you until you are on mushies. It's hard, extremely hard, but it will pay off!
  4. I am so hungry at least that is what I think I am. I had surgery on Monday, July 2nd and everything went great. I am drinking all of my fluids and protein shakes. I think maybe I should not have used milk but the doctor said it was o.k. Could this be contributing to my hunger since it is a thicker liquid and I should only be on clear? I was a little confused because the nurse told me today not to eat cream soup but at the hospital on July 4th they made me eat two spoons and some yogurt...which all stayed down...HELP!

    Question about shakes!

I was worried too and I'm only supposed to have 2 oz and I'm 8 weeks out...but I asked my surgeon bc I seem to be able to gulp without even thinking and was worried I was messing everything up, he said nope this is normal bc your tummy is a sleeve and especially depending on how vertical the portion is that remains it may nearly go straight through you! No worries! My bet is if you are in mushies or when you can start adding some dense proteins you will be full must faster! I still am barely able to finish two oz, so for example I am supposed to have 4TBSP of food(yes 2oz) so last night I had 2TBSP Taco Ground Beef(heated) then topped it with 2 TBSP Cottage Cheese, so all protein and I had to stop with one to two small bites left. If it was Greek yogurt it woulda gone down super easy. Hope that helps some!
  6. Glad it helps. My doctor has a similar restriction on carbs. carbs need to be under 10grams per meal and same thing with sugar--under 10grams too. He doesn't want any Protein shakes b/c they will go right through the system. He also has me stop drinking Water 1/2 before I eat and don't start until a 1/2 hour after i eat. . . otherwise it will flush the food that i do eat right through my system. Takes alittle bit getting used too, but it has definately helped. My doctor REALLY pushes the Proteins, that comes first. At phase II, they recommend that I get around 70 grams of protein in. I can drink milk (1% or skim) and that counts for both beverage and protein. What I found to help is with Greek yogurt, for example, I will take a serving and mix some vanilla flavoring in it and i will also add a teaspoon of powdered milk---it gives me a little extra protein too. If i make tuna/egg or chicken salads, i also mix some extra shreeded lowfat cheese into it and it gets me some extra protein. The big push for the water is that carbs contain more water than proteins. . . so with pushing high protein and low carbs, you have to make sure you are providing your body with enough liquids, otherwise you can dehydrate yourself. And on top of it all. . . . required 60 minutes of walking. I have a treadmill in the basement. I have not done 60 minutes all at once. . . i break it up into small amounts. So for example, while my dinner is baking, I'll grab 15 minutes there. After dinner, I'll grab maybe 20 minutes before i begin my "veg out" mode for the evening, I grab 15 minutes in the morning before i shower. . . when you break it up it makes it a whole lot easier to get it all in.

    I Actually.....

I probably don't eat as I should, but I eat a way that works for me....every morning I have a slice of peanut butter toast...at around 10 AM I have a Nature Valley protein bar (yum)...12:30 is half a PB&J sandwich....maybe at 3 I'll have a piece of string cheese or an orange....I have whatever I fix my family for supper......and in the evenings I usually always have a TCBY frozen yogurt bar and I always always have my 2.5 cups of white cheddar popcorn. I get around 1200 - 1400 calories a day, but I lack protein (usually getting around 50-60 grams). I eat whatever I want but ALWAYS count my calories on Myfitnesspal.com (which I love). On the weekends I still stay within my calorie range but I'll include a trip to DQ (mini blizzards are great) or whatever treat we're indulging in....but again, I always count the calories.
  8. I'm 10 days post op and I'm HUNGRY! Is this normal? I'm on full liquids this week, I've had yogurt, apple sauce, soup, protein shakes throughout today...still hungry, so I scrambled an egg and mashed it to applesauce consistency and I'm somewhat satisfied but afraid that i may mess something up? Help?
  9. Hard boiled eggs, yogurts, fruits and veggies So easy and portable I like seaweed snacks for salty snacks to replace chips

    Argh. Preop day 1

I know everyone is different, but I think the first couple of days were the hardest. I had a headache and I felt dizzy and I was starving! haha I am now 8 days complete and it doesn't seem near as bad. I dont know what your pre op diet consists of. Mine is basically 2 high protein meal replacement shakes, a piece of fruit and a yogurt during the day and then for dinner I get to splurge with 4 oz of lean meat and 2 slices of low cal bread plus 1 cup of veggies. I think my pre op diet is a little more liberal then some but I find it very doable! I find sipping on hot tea helps curb my hunger too. Keep strong! It will be worth it!
  11. I am exactly one week post op, I started losing about a pound a day then I starting gaining a pound a day and now I am right back to my pre-surgery weight. I'm so frustrated. I have no problems getting in all my liquids and protein, I track my calories and gett anywhere from 600- 900 calories a day. I'm on full liquids, I have not cheated, but I also have no restriction, I can easily finish the whole container of yogurt when I eat. Any advice

    Help

Sure, it sounds like you are too tight. I can get food down better standing than sitting when I am too tight. Strangely enough, we often don't lose weight when we are too tight, because it is too easy to eat the wrong things and give up on the band. That said, you need to re-evaluate your commitment to eating better. Why do you have mayo, gravy and potatoes in the house? You need to stop buying them! No one needs them and if they are what you use to eat badly, you need to get them out of the house. I have no sugar, flour, potatoes, Pasta, rice, or bread in my house at any time unless I am having long term guests. I know if those foods walk through the door, my resolution to not eat them walks out. This morning I was thinking pancakes sound good for Breakfast. I rationalized that swedish pancakes didn't have much flour and were mostly egg; then I realized I didn't have ANY flour around. Problem solved and temptation averted. Just because you are too tight is not a reason to eat high calorie foods. You can still do low sugar Protein shakes, lowfat low sugar yogurt, Soups, and other healthy mushie foods until your unfill. Consider yourself kicked in the ass. Get to work and make this work for you!
  14. google "recipes with ingredients I have or like" and then list just those foods you like and see what comes up. I'm not a picky eater and I prefer vegetables to fruit but I don't eat cheese, yogurt, salmon or peppers. I can't eat (due to diverticulosis) corn, popcorn, nuts, seeds, etc.. So, I will have some things to overcome when I get to the soft food and full food phase.
  15. One of the biggest downfalls of the standard American diet is that most of what we eat now is processed in a factory, and we have no recall of what real food tastes like. It just takes a while to get used to real food in it's natural state. Macaroni, bread, and crackers don't grow on vines. You may need to find some Youtube cooking videos or monitor some Paleo or Primal sites like Mark's Daily Apple. Eggface is a good site and is mentioned here often. I was 54 before I ever tasted an avocado, sunchoke, artichoke, asparagus, olive oil, hummus, pomegranate, squash, zuchinni, quinoa, cayenne, coconut milk, almond milk, Greek yogurt, ricotta, asiago cheese, gouda cheese, feta cheese, mascarpone, muenster, neufechatel, dill, pesto, tahini, green tea, kale, eggplant, jicama, tomatillos, shitake mushrooms, capers, tofu, basmati rice, black eyed peas, cannellini Beans, endamame, and prosciutto. This does not include casseroles and Entrees that I was used to, but had never been made from scratch with fresh ingredients. How did that happen? I grew up on TV dinners, Pop Tarts, hot dogs and Kraft macaroni and Cheese because my mother did not enjoy cooking. Eight years ago I met my boyfriend who is a Maltese citizen. He has intoduced me to the Mediterranean style of cooking. Between him and my daughter who became a vegetarian, I have been exposed to all of those foods that I had only heard of but had never tried. Nope, I did not like them all, and I still think tofu is disgusting, but almost everything else is delicious - and I had no idea. So, be brave. Try new stuff and get adventurous in the kitchen. You aren't doomed a life of boiled chicken and unsalted geen beans. I wish you good luck and good health.
  16. Hello Everyone! I am new here. 32 years old and female. I am scheduled to have my Gastric Sleeve surgery on April 14. During the 6 month diet process I have had trouble and am still having trouble figuring out what to eat, mainly because I am a picky eater and also because I really never know what to do with a bunch of ingredients. I was once a big time starch eater; mostly Pasta, pizza, rice, etc. However I started cutting it out of my diet for the sake of my surgery and the weight-loss alone from cutting that has been decent. I started drinking Protein powders (mostly BSN Syntha 6 because the flavors are tasty) about 5 months ago. Now my diet consist mostly of Protein powder, low fat string cheese, Beans, non starchy vegetables, eggs, and chicken or turkey sources with the occasional Peanut Butter on something or some plain oatmeal with smart balance butter and salt or grits (since I prefer that) and Fage greek yogurt with salt (since it makes it taste like cream cheese). I guess my problem is that I am getting bored with the food choices available and have literally been struggling to train my palate to like oatmeal and yogurt (since I never liked them ever growing up). I eat fruit occasionally, but don't really like sweets since I've weened off of sugar a couple years ago and now drink my teas sugar free. I was wondering if anybody who is pre-surgical or post surgical can offer some advice for me. For the past 2 weeks or so I have eaten close to nothing because I don't feel hungry and I also don't want to regain the weight. This is where the "borderline anorexia" bit comes in. Can somebody please help me get through this so I can have a successful surgery and heal properly? Thanks! Keyo

    Packed Lunches

My lunches usually contain a variety of the items below. I usually bring more than I will eat, so I can have what I feel like and then just repack the next day what I don't eat. I'm still adding new items to this list as I progress with trying/handling new things. it proves a challenge for me to pack lunches as I use to just eat out every day pre op. I have had a few things from fast food, but it's hard to find anything that you can eat. Jimmie Johns can makes all of their sandwiches into an Unwich, no bun - lettuce wrapped. I tried the turkey/ham and it was fabulous... it took me all day to eat 3/4 of it, but my pup was happy to get the rest at the end of the day.. also you can order a side of beans at taco bell which satisfies if you have no other option. My lunches contain an assortment of: 2 oz tuna salad (fixed as if it was going on a sandwich) deli meat or some other sort of meat hot soup in thermos olives pickles light string cheese cherry tomatoes apple orange P3 (deli isle) meat/cheese/nuts pistachios 2-4 oz lowfat cottage cheese 2-4 oz yogurt 2-4 oz protein sf jello (unjury.com has recipe) 2-4 oz vegetable, I like green beans 2-4 oz dole no sugar fruits I ordered some of the bariatric pal protein chips in a variety. I liked about half of them, but will not be attempting this again until I reach maintenance stage. I found myself eating more than one individual size bag a day or grazing through more than one portion at a time. It brought out old habits in me, and I don't need that kind of struggle with self control right now. Be careful with these my nutritionist also says they are slider foods, that dissolve fast and slide right through to the intestine, more calories for less satiety.

    Post Sleeve Diet

I'll be interested in what others have to say too. I had surgery right after you. I've been having different kinds of Soups. I really like the V8 SW corn and butternut squash. I've also had some Campbell's broccolli cheese, Progresso has a really good chicken enchilada (strain out all the chunks). It's very cheesy. I've also made homemade egg drop Soup. Yum! Other than that, I eat several sf popsicles. I also have yogurt in the a.m. Eggdrop soup: 2 cans of Chicken broth bring to a boil- reserve 1/3 of chicken broth. Whisk 2 eggs and 1 yolk, add to the boiling chicken broth, mix 1 1/2 tbsp cornstarch into the reserved broth then add to the rest of the soup.

    I'm starving!!!!!!

I was banded October 28th too and I can sympathize with you! I moved on today to some yogurt and thicker soup but not creamy creamy! Thank God I'm going back to work tomorrow so I'm not at home bored just thinking I want to eat!
  22. Congatulations!! Wow already walking a mile...Great news. It's terrific that you are so excited and happy to have your sleeve. I add 1 scoop of Solgar Vanilla Bean Whey, (16gms protein) to Uncle Ben's multi grain Cream of Wheat (7gms of protein per packet). I also do the same with the various brands of greek yogurt-1 scoop solgar whey to a 6oz container of yogurt. Other than that I still have not attempted to make any type of whey shake. I've been using soy, almond or hazelnut milk to mix in my cream of wheat. Hope that helps. Best wishes to you in your WL journey.
