Lap Band Surgeons In Ontario
susieq321 replied to momee3021's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I am not sure if you looked at slimband or not I am a patient of Dr Yau's he has been my band surgeon for 10 years now and I have had complications and he has been there to help me through them all. He helped me find a band surgeon when I moved to the US to do my fills down here. I have been a Dr Yau patient longer than slimband has been around but I have been impressed with the clinic and what they have done from staffing with banded patients to hiring nurses, nutritionists, chefs etc to help their patients and a website with forums to help their patients discuss their issues. Good luck with your choices -
Hi I have narrowed my search down to Slimband, SWLC - DR. CHRISTOPHER S. COBOURN in Oakville and Credit Valley Clinic (maybe - This one is only on the list because the surgeons are out of Credit Valley Hospital which has a great reputation) I would like to hear from other people who have used any of these clinics and please give me your honest opinion of their services and also how are you doing now? Are you happy with the surgery result etc.? Any complications with the bands? After care? Anything you can tell me would be helpful. Thanks

Hi, I am also from the Ottawa area (Gatineau) and having my surgery on January 3rd, 2014. I am going to the slimband clinic in Toronto. I started my pre-op diet today which sucks over the holidays but I will prove to myself how much I want this.

I can't answer your question, but I would like to ask you one. What is slimband if you don't mind me asking?

Severe liquid rising in my esophagus at night time
TheProfessor replied to SydneyGirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am so sorry to read this, @sydneygirl. I also had a negative experience with Slimband Toronto (customer service) and pulled the plug on the lap-band surgery I had scheduled with them before it ever happened. If you signed a contract for a 5-year follow-up, they are within their rights to honour that, although it sucks for you. FYI: You should know that Slimband monitors this forum and will approach you with their legal team (as they did me) if you say anything negative about them and ask you to remove your post(s). Just a heads up. If you are in the Toronto area, I recommend consulting with "Smartshape", (otherwise know as SWLC - the Surgical Weight Loss Centre), in Mississauga with Dr. Chris Colbourn. I was banded with SWLC 8 months ago (December 18, 2014) and had superb results. The follow-up has been outstanding. There is NO FEE for band adjustments. If Slimband is not giving you the love, see what Dr. Colbourn has to say. Incidentally, I strongly feel $1,500 for 6 months for fills is absolutely RIDICULOUS, since they take 10 minutes. Money grab if I've ever heard of one! -
Anyone have any problems with Slimband? I had to have mine removed last week. Absolutely no support from Slimband other than to offer a telephone consult with Toronto doctor..., I am in BC. I have been ill for over a year and can finally swallow again!!

Need Fill For Slimband (canda) In Michigan
SlimbandSexy replied to miheartmonger's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Have you called Slimband? I just got my slimband on July 28th but my understanding is that if you find a doctor willing to be trained they will train that doctor on how to do a fill for you. The other alternative might be to go to Windsor? Then it should be covered by Slimband and you shouldn't have to pay, right? Not sure where you are in Michigan. Hope you find a solution!! -
Almost there!

Former TLBC Patient (Dr. Yau) Lap-Band Removal ... Questions? Process?
tasiapg replied to AnneElliot's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, I had my lapband removed on September 22, 2014 in Toronto and it was all covered by OHIP. Had an excellent surgeon and was an easy surgery and my recovery time was only a few days. I am a former TLBC patient also who is very upset with the poor treatment that was given to us by Slimband. If you would like any additional information, please let me know and I will give you my email. Thx Tasia -
Hello all, Slim2009, Did you try going to the SWLC to see Dr. Cobourn? I've been reading other threads and apparently he helped a lot of people who were not banded at his facility. Try him if you have not. I'm not banded yet, but Slimband was the first place I contacted and had a consult a year ago. I was considering them until I did much research and almost on all threads on the internet, slimband patients are saying the after care sucks. And when something goes wrong, it's hard to get an appointment to see the MDs. So I decided to go with SWLC, apparently their after care is great according to most threads, there were some negative comments, but the positive ones about their overall experience, specially aftercare out weighed the negative ones and it's the oposite for Slimband (according to my 2yrs. research lol).

Hi, I was banded with Dr.C. He is a very nice man. He is located in Mississauga at the Plastic Surgery Clinic or downtown Toronto. I prefered Miss location, upscale and a lot easier to find without the complications of downtown ( paid parking, traffic, etc.) I highly recommend Dr.Coburn. Give them a call... speak to Sema. She helped me to understand the differences between Slimband and the Lapband... I first considered the Slimband. He has lots of staff and... they are all very helpful. I was banded in March '12. Im under 300lbs and losing the weight slowly. This is a lifestyle change. My stomach understands it but... my mind struggles everyday. Blessings!

Banded In Ontario Canada
AlleyKat replied to iriegirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm happy to see a topic for Ontario! I'm being banded at Slimband in Toronto June 22nd! They had earlier dates but my work schedule made it difficult. Some days I'm nervous, today I just want the date to hurry up!! -
Hello, my name is Wyleen. Had my surgery in 2014. All was good, except that my band had flipped and it was showing through my skin. Litterally poking out of my skin. My doctor fixed this problem last year, but since then, I've been consistly putting on weight. I think I need a fill. Does anyone know where I can get a fill in Toronto or Winnipeg. I used Slimband in Toronto and can't get a hold of them. Please help!!!

SLIMBAND?! Don't do it.
sassygirlcanada replied to sassygirlcanada's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh and if anyone knows of other people who are thinking about going after Dr. Yau and/or Slimband (ie a lawsuit), can you send some information my way. I'm very interested. -
I'm going to Slimband in Toronto, so far the whole process with them has been good! All my follow up will be done in Alberta, that where I am

Are you sure you had 7CC to begin with? When I got mine, I had no idea how much was in my band after surgery - Slimband informed me 1CC was put in there initially and then I've had two fills since - 1 at 1CC and then my second at 2CC and I have a lot of restriction...It takes me nearly 30 minutes to eat a meal. I would think if you are still feeling restriction you must not be leaking?

From the time I called Slimband to the time I had surgery was a total of three weeks. I never met a doctor until moments before surgery. In fact - I didn't meet anyone from Slimband at all until I arrived at their medical centre in Toronto an hour before my surgery! I did talk to one of their representatives over the phone, and had a medical questionaire to send them back (after which time, their nurse called to discuss everything). They also sent me a form to get blood tests and an EEG done, as well as instructions for their one-week pre-op diet. So - no psych evaluation, no face-to-face consults, no lengthy waits...it was a very simple process. That said - I'm self-pay (goodbye $16,000!) so maybe that's why it's slightly different. But hey - the surgery went well, and I feel like I'm on the road to a new me, so it's all good Good luck!

i have been banded since there wasn't clinics. I love Dr Yau, and Slimband which is the name of a band and the clinic has been good to me. Dr Yau developed his own band based on his 10+ years of experience. As one of his original banding patients I know him well and I know how concerned he is with providing the best banding experience he can which is why he developet he slimband. With that said, I have seen the slimband clinic evolve from a vision in Dr Yau's mind to what it is today. They have staff on board to support their patients and when I have needed support I have received it. This iincludes accomodating my schedule when I have had complications. I have phoned and emailed Dr Yau xrays from the US and had him work with my Dr, on what to do with me! I think about the staff the clinic has chosen to hire tend to be bandsters so they can relate to what you go through. They have dieticians, a chef, fitness specialists and they offer follow up that is great through travel and their online board. Do people complain yes of course people complain that is the nature of people... we all complain and most complainers are vocal about their complaints. I can say Dr Yau and his staff have always been kind, caring and they have worked with me on my challenges, like replacing my band when it slipped and I wasn't in Canada. I have been through a lot and based on my personal experience I trust Dr Yau more than I can say for any type of surgery. I have had some complicaitons and what stands out more than anything else is how they have dealt with my challenges and how good they were to work with! If you want to contact me my email is susieq321@hotmail.com.

So I won the lawsuit against SLIMBAND IN TORONTO how do i collect
lemmeh replied to ppaja60@gmail.com's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I got my Slimband in November 2010 and have had issues with vomiting since day one. Almost 10 years later I'm starting to have almost unbearable symptoms (haven't been able to keep anything down since Friday, pain in my chest, difficulty breathing). I would love to hear from anyone that has had their Slimband removed and anyone that has sued them. -

I have not personally sued but I want to. Unfortunately I am not sure how to go about it either. I did read this article which might be of interest. At some point I think almost all Slimband patients will have to have their bands removed. https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/gastric-band-surgery-marketplace-1.4479735 If you want to chat in person, add me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jennifercoulter -
