Were you banded at TLBC? (Toronto Lap-Band Centre) - pre 2008
bellacatgirl posted a topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
If you were banded under TLBC (now Slimband) you might have heard that we are no longer getting the life long support system we signed up for. In fact, we now have to pay for any sort of support (fills, defills, access to a nutritionist) we might need, except for defills. Myself and several other (8) are looking for other TLBCer's who are upset by this situation. Please email me ASAP with your story, questions or concerns. Kat -

I was banded Mar/07. As you all know we can no longer recive care from Slimband. I have been advised to make a report to The College of Physicians. That they take these complaints very seriously & will take action far quicker then a class action suit against TLBC, Slimband or Dr. Yau'. Anyone wanting to take this route can do so online. -

Hello, I was banded in November of 2011 and had complications for years. Slimband kept telling me my band was in the correct spot after they reviewed my upper GI. Turns out my upper GI, showed the band was placed to high and I had NO gastric pouch. So I was living in pain all the time, and they were lying to me the entire time. They are still making me pay for this band, even though it has been removed!! Don't go to SLIMBAND, they don't care about people, they only care about money. -

I was banded back in 2004 by Yau & Dr Joffe. I just found out that Slimband no longer provides care, and Yau is no returning my calls. I want in on any class action law suit that may be in the works. I've developed major complications with the band and simply don't want to pay any more for fixing it! Any recommendations? thanks! -

II want to seek legal action. Is there a class action started? If you go to TLBC.ca it defaults to Slimband and has current information there. I was told that TLBC became Slimband and the contracts were assumed by Slimband. In law when the contract is assumed, all terms and conditions remain the same. I am in contract with the company and not under the condition that Dr. Lau remained. The contract that I signed with TLBC May 2008, was assumed by Slimband in Nov 2008 so I was told and they also continued to provide care as per the contract of May 2008 including repositioning surgery in Jan 2014. So I think that they may be in breach. The only way to take them on is by a class action. I am in and want to know where to sign up! -
I think most of us in this thread went to SWLC and not Slimband so not really sure what their protocol is once you have decided. With SWLC, after we speak with the surgeon and make up our mind, they set a date then we speak with our patient coordinator who walks us through everything.

Hi, I saw my doctor today and he had received and read the package from Slimband. He said that he thought the whole thing was a good idea and was very encouraging. So what now? I have emailed the girl that I had my phone consultation with and am assuming she will reply tomorrow. What happens after you have made the decision to go through with the procedure? Vicki

Anyone have any problems with Slimband? I had to have mine removed last week. Absolutely no support from Slimband other than to offer a telephone consult with Toronto doctor..., I am in BC. I have been ill for over a year and can finally swallow again!!

Bendy H commented on Bendy H's blog entry in Blog 73642
So last month I had my 6th fill and i've finally hit my sweet spot. I won't be going in this month because i'm steadily losing every week which is awesome. I am finally in onederland!!! I weighed in this morning at 198 yipee!! This is soooo exciting. I went shopping on the weekend at Pennington's and I am a size 14. I won't be able to shop there anymore because that's the smallest size they have. Can you believe it - I have to shop at regular stores now. AWESOME!!! I am so looking forward to this summer at the beach. My goal is getting closer and closer. I love love love my band. Thank you slimband. -

Conversion from lapband to sleeve - lower BMI
ccorr replied to Stella84's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Scheduled to have my band removed and going with a sleeve. Had my band placed by Slimband in 2011. Loved my band until it stopped working in 2018. I have had 5 fills, a scope, and a swallow showing nothing wrong but I have no restriction 🤷♀️. I have gained 25 lbs in a year and have become so depressed ugh! Looking forward to having surgery next month. -

I'm happy to see a topic for Ontario! I'm being banded at Slimband in Toronto June 22nd! They had earlier dates but my work schedule made it difficult. Some days I'm nervous, today I just want the date to hurry up!! -
hi the info I got from Slimband in Toronto is there is a clinic in Edmonton which is located at 10020 101A Avenue NW. I don't have a ph number but maybe the TO office could give it to you. I was told they do fills there for Slimband patients.

I am confused. This is what I received from Slimband a couple of months ago "Slimband is pleased to introduce our new Medical Director, Dr. Ali Hazrati" If he is the New Medical Director at Slimband WHY is he doing fills at his private clinic and charging patients? -
I can't answer your question, but I would like to ask you one. What is slimband if you don't mind me asking?

Slimband formerly TLBC Clinic Toronto On
Doddie63 replied to susieq321's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The fills/defills are the most important. There is a CD Slimband gives to family doctors. Some like it others don't. I do know there is a NWT bandster and if you post you will probably find him. He would be great for support. Also, Slimband has their own website where you can get long distance advice on nutrition, fills, exercise, etc. I am long distance and find this new site not too bad. As for complications, any surgery can have that. Postings are usually telling the worst case or the best. Most people are in between. I had a twisted port and it was corrected by Dr. Yau with no problem. Just the cost of going back to Toronto. The port for me has been no problem. I can feel it and sometimes when I sit slouched over, it pinches but for the most part I never know it is there. I wish you well in your journey and if you follow the rules as set down by Dr. Yau, more than likely you will have no problem. BUT, YOU STILL HAVE TO WORK AT HOW YOU LOOSE WEIGHT. It is tough work but the band keeps you steady when you break down and give in to temptations. I did not get a contract and I trust Dr. Yau's reputation will ensure I am covered but I have to admit a contract is a great way of knowing precisely what you are covered for. Shouldn't be any problem asking for some sort of information in writing as to coverage. -

I have never responded to a blog before but felt the need to reply to HANBE concerning the support she received through jill's new group. I was at Jill support group wednesday evening at toronto Healing Arts Centre 717 bloor street when slimband chose to barge in and harass Jill but I was impressed with Jill's professionalism. I was embarassed for Jill but I feel she is offering what I need at this present time in my weight loss. She combines the mind -body-spirit connection as well as a weigh-in and this works best for me. -

Alex, I prefer real food too... some people find it easier to have shakes since they don't have to think just drink... Why Slimband went to them only they may know. I know a couple of people who wanted to have a shake before they got them and were prescribed another one so there might have been enough demand to start selling them. I am sure if prebandsters asked they would always been given a choice.. I know I don't eat yogurt or cottage cheese so I was told if I had ever needed it I would be put on a grilled chicken etc preop diet and I am sure that option would exist. I can't imagine living off shakes these days I am having a hard enough time getting a Protein Bar that makes me and my trainer happy because they all seem to taste like sawdust and have 300 calories... But I am making the effort to protein up about an hour before my work out for many reasons. Hope Jodi's email helped and your welcome! Heather -

I went to get a fill this week at the Slimband Clinic and I was told that from now on no one will be told how many cc's is being put into their band to prevent people from being overly 'obsessed' with their band. Does that make sense to you??? Are we not paying customers and deserve the right to know??? -

Heather my problem is I have a hectic schedule and before I have always been able to call and the receptionist booked my fill appt while I was on the line. I left a message for the fill booking line and I was in a meeting with the gentleman called me back and therefore left a message telling me that I couldnt get a fill for Friday (today) and to call back and leave another message with a better time and date available. I did and they called back and left a message with the time that was closest to what I requested and I had to call back and confirm. So it took me 3 calls and 5 messages between myself and this hotline VM service to book me a fill! Thats very bad business. And when I paid $16K I expected to be treated as a respected client. Yes I have met with Jodi, a couple times and did find her helpful but I think since she hasn't been banded that she doesn't fully understand what I'm going through and that was another connection I had with Jill. I also don't like the fact that I have met with Jodi a couple times and when I'm sitting in the waiting room she will walk by and not even raise her head to say hello. That shows me that we have no connection and that she doesnt care enough to even say hi. I have never felt a connection with Kathy, I had her for my consultant and I didn't find her to be helpful. The only person that I feel support from is Nancy and that is why I have continued to have my fills at TLBC well that and the fact that I have paided for my post op care. So sorry Heather I know you are trying very hard to convert me to be a TLBC/Slimband supporter but I feel they are just changing everyday into a less productive and supportive atmosphere. At the end of the day I miss the bootcamps, the friendliness of the clinic, and most of all Jill and her support. Have a great day everyone! The GTA is suppose to be getting hit with some snow and freezing rain this afternoon so please be careful getting home and enjoy your weekend! I'm going snow tubing with my niece and nephew tomorrow! Hope I don't break my behind!!! haha! -

Heather after reading your post, I immediately went to the Slimband website and I looked and can't find any announcement. Nor did I receive an email announcing this long distance program. I responded to a couple of groups that I guessed might be the correct one and hopefully someone will email me. In the meantime, can you tell me where to find this announcement? -
Hello, my name is Wyleen. Had my surgery in 2014. All was good, except that my band had flipped and it was showing through my skin. Litterally poking out of my skin. My doctor fixed this problem last year, but since then, I've been consistly putting on weight. I think I need a fill. Does anyone know where I can get a fill in Toronto or Winnipeg. I used Slimband in Toronto and can't get a hold of them. Please help!!!
