    Fills and Restriction?

no rhyme or reason. i had to have a small unfill after 6 days because couldn't keep anything down. now some days i feel restriction and others i don't and can consume way too much food. mornings are impossible can't eat but a couple of bites and in the evening can eat a lot. can't decide if a need more fill or what. it's been nearly 2 weeks since my unfill. haven't lost a thing since then. ugh. what to do what to do

Remembering to take meds takes 1) resolve and 2) a system. I use pill minders... those containers with one or more compartments for each day of the week. There are several different kinds, and the one you select is normally based on the number and size of pills you want to remember to take. The system I use includes one 4-compartment container for each day of the month. The 4 compartments are Breakfast, lunch, dinner and Bedtime. I fill up all the containers at one time, once a month, and I can fit in all my post-sleeve Vitamins and minerals except the Calcium. For that I've purchased 4x4" ziplock baggies, and every Sunday I fill one for each day of the week. Each weekday I carry one 4-compartment container and one little ziplock with me to work, and I take the appropriate meds at the appropriate times. Hope that helps!
  3. Anyone having surgery on the 27th? I am looking to connect with someone to just chat with :)  If not, any helpful words of advice for me?  I am wondering if I should take a stool softener the week leading up to surgery to I’m *cough* clear things out. Hahah

    Another stall?!?

None of us lose at a constant or steady rate. Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. Just follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids, take your Vitamins and supplements as directed, exercise, and stay off the scale. Embrace the Stall! http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall
  5. Good luck to you all. I have 4 weeks so fingers crossed. Glad we have this site to help us out.

    Pre Opp Cambridge Style

I start my 2 weeks pre op today........good luck to you.
  7. It's been a little while since I've visited the forums, but I wanted to check back and share some success! My surgery was July 31, at 350 lb, and as of today I'm at 292, which puts me at a BMI of 39.6, under the 40 cutoff for morbid obesity! I'm so excited! The last week I've bought some new clothes and it feels good to throw the old ones away, although I'm keeping a few for some before/after stuff. I'm right on the border of being able to shop at more "normal" clothing stores, and I can't wait. I'm eating pretty much everything now, nothing hurts at all and I feel as normal as I can, but if I try to cheat or eat too much, my body punishes me, and I like that. My old habits can't come back. My wife loves that we can share meals now because it helps her to eat less too. My 4-year old even out-eats me! It's really great. I'm so glad I made this choice to get the surgery. Even self-paying it at just under $20,000, I feel like it was the best investment I've made in myself. My next goal is to get a total of 100 lb down by the end of the year. I'll be ramping up the activity to help with that, and my caloric intake has been fine I think. Anyways, I'm typing this right before bed, and shortly after the period of time where I take my nightly sleep meds, including Ambien, so how it feels like I;m kind of all over the place. So I guess I'll end it with that. Good to see you all again!
  8. Hello all, I made my sleeve surgery 1 week back. And since than i am having hiccups when i drink Water or Soup etc... Sometimes i hiccups during the day even if i am not having liquids. Did anyone faced this? What does this means? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. All - I am having similar issues messed around for a year w/ complete unfills and going back up. Lost 72 lbs in 9 months and then problems started. Here are observations and the awesome NP in the practice and Dr I see, helped alot w/ the clinical signs because in my case it looked really bad at 5.8 cc's but an unfill corrected it completely but the joke is I can't get filled it would need to be loose so whats the point? 1) After June I was never in the green zone i was either too loose or too tight where that was defined by reflux problems at night. They explained that could be a hiatal hernia that developed. It sure looked that way or a partial slip on the barium swallow a few weeks ago before he released it. 2) Through this i've net gained 12 lbs and I imagine would if i did nothing would slowly gain back 3) after the unfill the barium swallow looked pretty good the band did look like it was sitting lower; before the unfill pouch dilated and it looked like stomach was coming up 4) Dr explained to me that the acid reflux ends up causing problems w/ the espophagus and it works less effectively in pushing the food through So my point is that in my case even w/ the films there was not THAT much that was conclusive and sometimes they do need to go on the clinical evidence. I hope it will work for all of us - even though this is a pain this is still the best thing I ever did. My big fear is that it will fail. I am going in on Sat
  10. Good luck. I start my 2 week pre-op next wednesday. Surgery Nov. 6.
  11. I meet with the NUT on Tuesday 10/23. Their literature says its a 2 week Protein liquid diet - so I'm not sure if it's 100% liquid or if I get 1 regular meal with chicken & veggies. I'm going to assume the worst (100% liquid) so if I do actually get a meal I'll be thrilled.
  12. Your replies eased my concerns. I went for my post-op checkup yesterday to meet with the surgeon, but he wasn't there. I met with the nurse instead, but she wasn't concerned about Protein at this point. She said in that first week the important thing was getting in enough liquid. While 64 oz of Fluid is the goal, the real danger zone is when we drink less than 40 ounces a day. I usually get in 50-70, but the other post-op patients I was talking to at the bariatric meeting were not able to hit goal--ever. Today I get to start pureed foods. Looking forward to it...I think.

    Should I Fill? Input please!

I am having exactly the same problem. Sometimes I know I don't chew well, but I have been really trying and watching how I eat. However, sometimes it doesn't matter. Things still get stuck. I think it is stress. I seem to have more problems with food when I am stressed out. Also, I have been stuck at the same weight for about 3 weeks. I didn't lose that much at my last visit and I am afraid the same thing is going to happen again at my next appt. But i am afraid to get another fill. i have also been eating more than a cup at times. So you are not alone. Let us know what happens.

    Should I Fill? Input please!

I am having the same problem, at times food feels like it is stuck and then other times I can eat quite a bit with no problems at all. I am scheduled for a fill on Friday, August 29th and I don't know if I should have one. I am almost 2 months out since surgery (June 27th) and I have lost 35 pounds, but only 5 in the last 3 weeks. I hope someone will have an answer for us!!!

    12 day stall? Help!

I had made a blog post very similar to this a while back, and someone posted the following link to help me understand what is going on: http://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.html It really made a lot of sense to me, and helped me get through it. In my first month, I had a 5 day stall, and a 9 day stall, and still lost over 30 lbs. I'm now 6 weeks post-op and I've lost 45 lbs. It will come off, it has to. It just doesn't come off evenly or in a straight line. There will be periods where your body has to re-calibrate itself. The day after my 5 day stall, I lost 5 lbs overnight, and the day after the 9 day stall I lost 2 lbs overnight followed by a lb a day for 4 or 5 days after that. Just try to stay positive. I know I got a bit discouraged, I just went through major surgery and expected results overnight. But now that I look back 6 weeks later, it feels like 45 lbs DID come off overnight.

    Optifast

I have to do the Optifast diet 2 weeks pre-op. I have heard that some have experienced headaches while doing this diet. What has been your experience with Optifast?
  17. It's been a long time coming. I am finally getting sleeved next week. I've been a part of this support site for a while now, but was gone for quite some time. I'm back and is looking forward to communicating with people going down this same road or has already done the procedure (VSG).
  18. :bounce:I DID HAVE THIS EXPERIENCE DURING MY FAST, PRE BAND. One of the reasons why was every time that I believed the thought, "I'm Hungry", I asked myself, "IS THAT TRUE?". AND I sat with it. I didn't answer right away - i went inside and listened to my body and waited for the answer, and many times found that, no, it isn't true! I am not hungry! I have been believing a lie and living out of it. And sometimes I found I was hungry, and enjoyed the experience of what the truly feels like for me. I wonder, Fanny if that isn't what happened for you - your willingness and open-mindedness to try doing it differently and "listening" to yourself (I NEVER did that before... I just ATE), slowing down, and discovering what is REALLY TRUE for you. I LOVE IT. This is so much more than about eating for me - it is about getting into a relationship with this beautiful body of mine that has carried me so far and taken so much abuse and never been anything but loyal to me. I just love this body, and I love serving it and listening to what it has to tell me. IS IT TRUE? A wonderful question, and it seems you slowed down and found the answer for YOU! There are three other questions I use, too - if you are interested in the 4 questions, go visit www.thework.com and find out about it. It's free and easy. PS: This is such a powerful question for me that I had it tattooed on the inside of me wrist yesterday, isn't that nuts? LOVE TO YOU FANNY!
  19. Definitely agree. Went to my first one last week, I get banded this week. What a weight off my shoulders! So many issues - good and bad- were touched on, and really opened my eyes and made me feel better about my decision to get this done! It's not an easy road by any means, but everyone who has done it is happier and healthier, doing so many things they hadn't done before. It's a great thing to take time to spend with others in the same boat.

    Struggle

I was Banded on 4-16-08. I was in pain (the port site mostly) and needed 2 weeks to recover --go back to work. I too had the same struggle in my mind, before AND after I already did it. The key is to stick to the regime. If you go off it then all the things the liturature says will happen WILL. I often said to myself I should of just went on a diet one more time ...then reminded myself I was on phen phen redux meridia weight watchers hypnosis jenny craig and all the tv and on line diets slim fast need I go on. I have lost 20 lbs in 4 weeks and have begun to fell it is worth it .. when you put on something that did not fit you will fell differently...and as a nurse I can tell IT WILL AFFECT EVERYONE DIFFERENTLY!
  21. Hi everyone! Starting to lose motivation! Ive been sick on/off since just after Christmas. Its made my new job be put off as they are requiring me to have no symptoms for 48 hours before my start date. Ill go one day perfectly fine, the next feeling like death. Its been like that for almost a month. Ive done so many PCR tests in the last couple weeks and theyve all been negative for covid! Because with the increased covid cases here in Sydney i havent wanted to put my son or I at risk of getting it. My sons unvaccinated and although i am now boosted too, i have asthma and being so soon after surgery i wanted to minimise risk. Even put all the plans i had for school holidays off because of the rising cases. But then on Monday my son got his test back that hes positive for covid, he was really sick over the weekend. He caught it off his cousin who had been around one of her fathers family's kids who had covid and didnt let any of my family know about it until my niece tested positive and my sister let her husbands side know!!😡 Now im having symptoms again and going for yet another PCR tomorrow. Feeling like the new job will just find someone else at this point! Almost a month later from when i was supposed to start and i need no end to this. I cant even see my GP. Its just phone appointments and each time i have an appointment they just tell me to go for another PCR because its been a few days since the last one and i could have covid now. Its driving me nuts. I know this time i do a test its likely i will be positive because my son is and i cant exactly isolate him to one room but this whole experience the last month has really made me lost motivation. If im positive ill need to isolate for another 7 days from test result so potentially another 10+ days in isolation. Im now 8 weeks post op and wanted to be getting out and regularly exercising while the summer lasts but cant now because were in isolation! And because im a single mum this whole experience has been very isolating, because my family are also in isolation, i dont really have any friends to speak to either😣 Tips on keeping motivated? Any ideas for what i can do while stuck in isolation? All we seem to be doing is playing video/board games and cleaning, its getting boring! How to cope with isolation!
  22. I average 850 cal/day. I try to hit above 800 because I'm trying to avoid gallstones (~23% are at risk of gallstones after WLS surgery). I hope you can get a hold of your NUT since we all have different programs. One thing that is across the board is our main focus is on protein & water intake especially in the earlier weeks.
  23. Probably one lapse will not affect your surgery. The larger question though, is will the underlying mindset affect your overall success? That is a question only you can answer. My program has the philosophy that things (food) should not be absolutely forbidden. That's a good thing. However, there are times when it HAS to be forbidden. You just gave in to a craving pre-op. All your insides are still in their original condition, so it probably didn't do too much damage. I can't really say. I can tell you for sure though, if you decide two or three days post-op, that you need to give in to the same craving, and chow down on a Big Mac, you are going to be sorry. And it might be a whole lot worse than just some temporary guilt or discomfort. There are reasons why you need to follow your plan strictly, and bending or breaking rules is a real bad idea until you get a handle on things and learn what is going on with both your mind and body. This process requires dedication and discipline. If you don't have those, you need to find them. Otherwise, you are going to be wasting time and money, as well as enduring a lot of pain and suffering for nothing.
  24. I don't think it will affect it, depends though...on what you ate, do you plan to do it again and what kind of pre-op diet plan you're supposed to be on. I'm 7 weeks post sleeve and I know how hard it is to be on liquids. My pre-op diet was 2 weeks of just liquid! That was torture! But I just kept thinking of what I was going to be doing and the outcome if it all, to be successful, depended on me doing what my surgeon and his team had planned out. So 2 weeks liquids, had surgery, 2 more weeks just liquids...Lil over a month of just liquids! I know how frustrating and hard it is! You can do it though. Just have as many varieties, that are allowed, then it don't get too repetitive lol. sugar free popsicles and SF Jello really helped! Hope everything goes well! Good luck and just keep thinking of the end result and all the reasons why you chose to do this! You got this! HW: 419 SW: 341 CW: 314
  25. So let me give you a run down of my last two weeks........ I’m definitely not looking for sympathy, I just want to know if any of you have been through this so I’m not going through it alone. I had my revision from VSG to RNY on 7/22 - Day 1 was rough but after that everything was a breeze. I had tapered myself off pain meds and felt great. Sunday morning (6 days post op) I felt pretty dizzy and light headed which I linked to dehydration so I stepped up my liquids. This lasted on and off all day. Come Monday morning and I’m starting to have some left side stomach pain and linked shoulder pain. I’m not gonna lie, the shoulder pain hurt worse than anything imaginable and I tried simethicone and nothing helped so it was not linked to gas. I called my surgeon and he suggested to come into the ER for eval. CT scan and blood work later, I was getting admitted. Let me tell you what though - I have not felt the same since they stretched me flat on the CT scan, it felt like every fiber that had started to form back together was ripped open again. I was admitted to the hospital for 3 nights for severe dehydration and to fully rule out a leak, which was definite after an Upper GI. During the first 2 days of admission my surgeon allowed me nothing by mouth and near the end of that I could just feel my stomach going crazy inside my abdomen looking for substance. When I was finally able to eat, my stomach hated me. The first thing that hit my stomach caused unbelievable cramps. A day later and I can still feel fluids hit my pouch and cramps follow. My pain in my shoulder has gone away, I’m still pretty sore in my stomach but for the life of my can’t figure out why my stomach is so mad at me for drinking. Has anyone of you experienced this? If so, PLEASE reassure me that things do get better 🙏🏻
