THE SLOW LOSERS CLUB SUPPORT THREAD
Lark17 replied to Serengirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
2 hours ago, AnnieD78 said: The part i am still SO SO co confused about is food and macronutrients. My dietician does not say no to anything, in moderation. Which is what I do. But prior to surgery and my whole life I have been on really extreme diets like Keto or whole 30. So moderation feels wrong or like cheating. Really struggling with my mental relationship with food right now. I also disagree! For some, that works like a charm, but others of us have reactions and inflammation caused by certain foods. I am four weeks post op and all of the cheese (cottage, ricotta) on the soft diet is killing me! I feel like this is contributing to my sloooow weight loss. I also retain water and get puffy when I eat nightshade vegetables. My suggestion would be to introduce new foods one at a time and then wait and see if you have a reaction. Cheers to all of us! -
I'm a sloooow loser, average 1.9 pounds (.86 kg) a week. I keep track of my food. 600-700 calories. Days that I eat more than 20g of carbs (usually when I crave bread, I will eat some questionable keto bread, usually just a single slice) I will stall for days. Sigh, such is life. I'm hungry all the time, I resort to drinking more water, squeeze my daily exercise or drinking tea. Sent from my SM-F707U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

September surgery buddies!!
nymisc replied to Slwhurst's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know how many of you are in your third week, but I am concerned about my calories. My doctor has us do 3 meals and 3 snacks. Shooting for 60 grams of protein and 64 oz of water. I have no problem with the protein. I make a lot of keto soups and blend them down. I am concerned in the calories. I was hovering around 5-600 calories. Today if I eat everything, I wrote I should end up around 800. I couldn't believe it. I have not had any issues with food until yesterday. I am in my soft food stage and yesterday I had a few of Russel's sugar free chocolate. My TOM started yesterday, and I think I was just craving. That did not sit well at all. So, no more off that. Where are you all at in terms of calories? -

Please make sure you are healed and your cardiac surgeon approves you doing this hon!!! It's so soon after surgery. My surgeons after recon would not let me even restrict for the first 2 months...let alone fast. But I know in 2 weeks you will be doing great with the way you are going on your LC/Keto!!! You will be smashing!! -
Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability
temkins replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
That was my concern as well for 2 last years - after a multitude of mindless diets, meal plans and reckless food attitude I was absolutely sure my metabolism is in ruins. Until recently I managed to finally measure it with a doctor and have learnt that my basal metabolic rate is in fact 2700-2800 /day. Stalls may occur while the body shifts from one energy mode to another, while being in stress, some environmental issues etc etc. In fact IF might help to pass the stall. If 16-8 doesn't work after 2 weeks, try 16-8 + low carb / keto diet - just to see what works best. It doesn't mean you have to keep going on IF+keto, you'll just pass the stall phase. -
Found this on FB and it's been pretty accurate for me. Lost over 20 pounds right after surgery very quickly then things were slow from week 2-5ish but since then it's been coming off at a pound or so a day. ETA: this is from some keto thing so ignore the starting weight part but it seems to fit for me and others after surgery.

strange nasty odor
Arabesque replied to MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It’s ketosis. It’s renown for the accompanying unpleasant body odours: breath, skin, sweat, genital secretions, urine & caused by our high protein low carb diet. We want to be in ketosis (fat burning) & we all experience the side effects in some form. Good thing is the odour doesn’t last forever. I used to carry a small toiletries bag with toothbrush & paste, mouth wash, deodorant & body wipes for a refresh during the day. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/ketosis-safety-and-side-effects#The-low-carb/keto-flu -
Had the balloon in 2016. I paid 7,000. It was terrible. Vomitted for 3 days straight. After that I had severe stomach cramping for months. My stomach soon got used to the ballon so I ate as much as I wanted. After the balloon is removed you end up with a large space in your stomach and guess what that is filled up with? Yep food!!! It is a terrible waste of money. It doesn’t get to the root of the problem which is why I over eat. I lost only 18 lbs. I have been doing the Keto diet for 5 months now. It is hard but is helping me get over the emotional eating problems. I have lost 25 lbs doing Keto. I honestly think this was a good idea in the beginning but now think they should take this procedure off the market. Good luck to any one deciding to get the balloon. It is an expensive waste of money!

My stomach is wondering what the heck happened...well, I have NEWS for my stomach! It's going to be...um....er..not having to worry about most of itself after 7/1. Shhhh!! Right now I'm so dang HUNGRY! -
Electronic weight loss program recommendations?
Healthy_life2 replied to CaliforniaCandy's topic in The Lounge
Myfitnesspal. I'm old school. It tracks food. Graph shows your progress. Helps meet and see if you hit your calorie and macronutrient goals (protien etc) Tracks your exercise including syncing fitbit, map my run or map my walk...I'm sure their are more, It will graph for the week or month of meeting your calories and macros. You can leave your food log open for others to see, Or keep it private ( I keep mine open.) At the end of the day you submit and it tells you if everyday was like today you would weigh (calculates what you would weigh based on your food and exercise) gives me motivation to stay on track. It also has a forum for many categories bariatrics, vegan, keto, fitness weightlifting etc. you can friend and message.....They are amazing people that are motivated inspiring, and positive. -
🍽️ 🍽️ What's on the Menu? 🍽️ 🍽️
Sheribear68 replied to ms.sss's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So coming off of a 20:4 day yesterday and planning a 16:8 today. The last bit of my cheeseburger casserole (almost 1 cup) and some olives and feta cheese that got from the olive bar at my grocery store. The p3 will be my afternoon snack, and then dinner will be a recipe I found earlier this year for some keto Tuscan soup. I’ll have to get on their website later to get all of the nutritional for that. So far, I’ll have 31 gm protein and under 7 carbs with these 2 meals. Breaking my fast now (12:30pm my time) with the casserole and olives and will have the p3 around 4-ish and then I’ll have 2 Pilates classes tonite from 5:30-7:30. My hubs is the best so he’ll finish up dinner while I’m away so I can get down to eating by the time I get home and be finished up before 8:30 when my eating window officially closes. -

Calories and carbs? Need input!
genn replied to genn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have to work up to that rate. I'm 3.5 months and now able to do between 800 and 950, doesn't happen overnight. I tried to up my goal in my fitnesspal by 50 calories a week. I was at 650-750 for the longest time. I follow a macro plan which I set up in myfitnesspal. I aim for 35%carb 25% fat and 40% Protein. if I"m 30-30-40 that's fine too. been working well for me. Lots of people are put on Keto plans (high protein high fat low carb. i was doing that until my dietician told me my carbs were too low. so I adjusted...still losing. I'm doing 900-950 pretty consistently this week and happy with that. my goal was to get over 900 to avoid "starvation mode". awesome okay good I guess I'm just afraid of over eating. Even tho I know my calories before starting this journey was probly more 3000 range I just don't wanna fail at this and wanna know that eating 1000 calories will still allow me too loose. Do you HAVE to follow a low carb diet?
Michelle920 replied to slimmingsteff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm confused. Are your surgeons and NUTS recommending keto? Why would you have weight loss surgery and then go on what is basically a fad diet? I had surgery to stop letting fad diets get in my head. Yes, they work. Fad diets always have. Until they don't. If I follow the guidelines my surgeon and NUT gave me, I'm ultimately eating low carb anyway. They don't recommend simple carbs, and I admit like everyone else, they don't work for me. But I shake my head at all of these post op people following keto plans. It sounds to me like keto is to lose weight. Surgery should accomplish that on its on. It did for me. -
Do you HAVE to follow a low carb diet?
slimmingsteff posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello guys. Keto has never caught my attention. I've been able to lose weight eating healthy carbs. Anytime I did do carb cycling, where I would have to eat low carb, I just felt terrible. Now please don't take this as "oh wow she's unmotivated to change her lifestyle". Doing Keto literally contradicts all the knowledge I've gained on macronutrients all my life. (I also talk about this in reference of way after the 6 weeks. Maybe 6 months from post-op) -

GreenTealael replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Fats. Fat has more cal per gram than both protein and carbs (9 vs 4) And for most fat doesn't trigger cravings, instead suppressing hunger which is why Keto is such a booming lifestyle. Honestly each macro nutrient has it's merits and purpose for optimal health which is why food fit for human consumption contain them. I think water & alcohol are the exceptions (real geniuses correct me if I'm wrong ❤) As you move towards maintenance more research is warranted to decide what your long-term lifestyle will look like. Here's a research journal to consider (oh and I'm sure you'll find plenty on either side of the argument) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/14672862/ -

IF Strikes again back down to 156 after a few days of 16:8, 18:6. Happy to see it will be my maintenance tool. Also, psyllium husk in a keto friendly bread I made sat like a log in my sleeve but cleans the plumbing -
I use Carb Manager. I use to use MFP but i didnt like the set up. Even though Carb Manager is more for someone who is on the Keto diet, i think it works well for the average person too.

I need help keeping this secret!
OutsideMatchInside replied to laceemouse's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@laceemouse It has been shockingly easy to keep a secret. I'm actually surprised. I have a lot of friends and know a lot of people but luckily most people think diet and exercise work, so they don't really think my weight loss is magical. My close friends all know but they all live out of state, and they don't care beyond being happy for me. I'm a year out, 4 people know and they live in 4 different states and don't know each other. If you are open about changing your lifestyle. "I'm low carbing/ eating keto" "I'm trying to be more active" People just think that is working, because you know biggest loser. Everyone thinks all you have to do is be serious and work hard. Also, think about WLS are a serious medical issue. No other surgery that people need, this isn't really an elective surgery for those of us who have been obese for a long time, gets debated like this. No one tells someone to skip their heart surgery. You just have to decide you want to keep it a secret and know what that means. Keeping it a secret means you tell no one, beyond your husband. NO ONE. Anyone you tell can tell someone else and they can tell someone else. Secret means secret. I'm a year out, 4 people know and they live in 4 different states and don't know each other. -

This is crazy! Your post is nothing like I’ve read on here haha I love it. You look amazing. I lost a lot of my weight on Keto when I was Yo-yo dieting but did not like the carb restrictions. I think I could do it again you’ve definitely given me something to think about. Congratulations on your long term success with the sleeve. -
Does anyone do keto? I find that it really works for me, but the dietition said they do not recommend keto. I'd like to give it a try after I go through all of the post-op phases of the diet. Any experiences will be greatly appreciated.
