    Fat grams intake

Hey everyone. I've started a boot camp as of today. I'm trying to find out what is the healthy intake for protein, carbs, calories, and fat grams. Can anyone tell me what is recommended for each? Thank you very much.
  2. My update: I was sleeved on 4/27. Horrible nausea post op. Left the hospital having had nothing but Water and a few tea spoons of broth. Thing are gradually getting better. Probably getting in about 300 calories per day. Missing by a mile on the Protein, but doing pretty well on staying hydrated. Weighed this morning and I am up 2 pounds from the scales Wednesday morning as I left for the hospital. That's not fun to see. I understand now how this plays with the brain. I mean, what??am I going to start gaining weight when I am able to take 500 calories in per day? They've told me that any sort of risk of a dangerous episode is pretty much over on day 21 so that's all I have my sights on now. As long as I know it's just a matter of accepting this was my decision and plugging away at it, I'll be fine. But right now, it's all feeling a bit futile. Or maybe my concerns are just the nausea talking. I hate being nauseous so it might just be that big mouth that's bugging me. -- A little side note: My BF drove me around a bit yesterday. We went to McDonalds so he could get some lunch. He kept asking if it was okay or if it would bother me. I told him it really didn't bother me at all. Well he's normally a really slow eater. Yesterday he ate like he was in one of those hot dog contests. I could tell he still felt really bad sitting and eating in front of me. But it really didn't bother me in the least. I do miss salty since all of these awful Protein drinks are so very sweet. But aside from wanting to lick one of his french fries, I was fine,

    Hunger?

I'm 6 weeks post op. I was hungry a lot the first 2 weeks. I also felt my stomach roiling. A PPI helped a lot. But at 6 weeks I get hungry. My practice would like me eating 3 meals plus 1 snack. I am eating 3 meals plus 3 Snacks. But I am hitting all the targets-calories, Protein, low carb. And I get satisfied. I'm just hungry again in 2-3 hours. I've asked about it at every appointment. And been told that the "you won't feel hungry is nota universal truth". Right or wrong, I am telling myself this will make lifetime maintenance harder, and so I will need to pay attention as I progress, to keep bad habits at bay. But what I really wish I could eat more of is vegetables. Especially raw vegetables (haven't tried any yet). So I have already made progress in changing my needs. And I didn't get fat from eating too many bell peppers. So if I end up eating a lot of veggies as snacks down the road I doubt it will cause damage.

Some questions: 1) How tall are you? 2) Does your daily exercise include more than 10K steps a day? 3) Do you know how many calories you consume daily? (on average) 4) When you had the metabolism study done 10 yrs ago, do you know how much you weighed a the time?

    Serious second thoughts HELP!!!

Seppi, we're not here to "help" you decide for or against the surgery. Only you can do that. We can share our own experiences though, for what it's worth. In the 8 months prior to my banding I lost about 30 lbs "on my own" -- that is, with only the help of an over-the-counter product (the now-banned ephedra). I first decided to seek surgery in the summer of 2002. Motivated by my decision I found a new determination to cut calories and lose weight and went from 340 to 310 and maintained that, for a while. I even briefly considered dropping my battle with my insurance company over banding, since it seemed like this approach was working. But I stopped taking the ephedra out of concern for my life, and the weight started to come back on as it always had before. I realized surgery was still my best chance for a permanent solution. It's easy to look at surgery as a failure, especially when you've been fighting as long as I have, but I choose to look at it as a new weapon. Is it one you need in your arsenal? Only you can decide that.
  7. Ugh. This show was supposed to "motivate" moms who want to lose weight. Forget it. The first woman had 25 lbs to lose and lost 12 on the South Beach diet. Yay for her. The second woman had about 35 to lose before her high school reunion, and decided to do it by running a marathon. Yeah, right. The third woman is MO, but only gained weight during her pregnancy and first few years as a mother of quintuplets. Before that she'd been slim all her life, even competing in a 1990 beauty pageant at age 21. She's 5'6", weighs 258, and had bypass surgery a few months ago. She said it's so she'll be around for her five kids, but also mentioned that she wants, once again, to have a body she can be proud of. I am absolutely dumbfounded by people like this woman, who only got fat as an adult, while she was carrying SEXTUPLETS (one was stillborn), and she was consuming 7500 calories a day on her doctor's orders. Six years later she weighs more than her highest pregnant weight, but had gotten down to 190 in the interim. So it's only the last two or at most three years that she's been carrying 100 extra pounds. She seems to me like a TEXTBOOK case of someone who should be banded and NOT bypassed. How can a doctor sincerely recommend such drastic surgery to permanently change the basic functions of a healthy young body that has only recently gone awry? Given time and a certain amount of caloric restriction she probably could have lost a lot of that weight on her own. The band would have been PERFECT for her. Yet nowhere was the band mentioned. Of course. Grrrrr.

    Back and Banded

Greg, you are so funny. I think laughter is the best medicine. We all can share and cry and laugh together as we continue on our journeys of healing and losing weight. I think when we laugh together the calories expended are multiplied by the number of people laughing -- that is why you all are loosing weight so fast. I think it is wonderful. Let's keep laughing and loosing!!!!

    No Patience...gah!

No caffeine!!! Geaux, seriously no Caffeine, I about died when I heard that roflmao! One thing with Myfitnesspal.com since you know how it works. If I followed their suggestion for Protein, Carbs, sodium and calories I would end up gaining weight! Almost all doctors recommend the same thing with gastric sleeve and that's 80 grams of protein, 45-75 of carbohydrates and try to stay at 800-1200 calories a day (if you exercise and it tells you to add more calories and it says your aren't eating enough) ignore it. I quit doing Desserts like yogurt etc. and I started incorporating Peanut Butter on a teaspoon. I always ate my meat first, chew like 20 times and then go for your vegetables second, then and only then eat your carbs. Also, you have to learn not to drink with your dinner. I was a "choker" especially when I went out to eat. Something about eating in public, I always end up choking on my food and I am used to drinking Water with my meal. I learned that about an hour before dinner if I drank something hot like hot peppermint decaff tea I would be less hungry. I learned once I took away my drink with dinner, I chewed slower and chewed more thoroughly. I learned to wait at least 1/2 hour after I eat to then drink my water. These are all suggestions that were given to me in my packet and I spent 6 months practicing them. Not all doctors are that thorough, but it's worked for me when other things haven't. The reason for no caffeine is that it promotes stomach ulcers and more importantly, it causes dehydration. After surgery it's a struggle to get all your Fluid intake in and your liquid Protein in. Dehydration is a real problem. It's easier to quit caffeine before surgery than right after surgery because most people have withdrawals and headaches. I waited until I got approved to quit, so I had time to get used to it before I started on pre-op shake. Surgery is a week from tomorrow. A bit tired of drinking protein shakes and I decided not to have a big Memorial Bash because truthfully it would be hard having a huge party while on protein shakes, but my parents are going to swing by tomorrow to do some wii bowling. Good luck to you and can't wait to hear how your plan is going to go. All bariatric centers are different, mine seems to be one of the strictest compared to most. After surgery 2 weeks of Clear liquids, then 4-6 of full liquids then pureed, then soft, then regular. With pre-op diet, that's 10 weeks of no real solids.

    Stalling so soon????

Sometimes I take fresh mozarella (the one packed in water) and eat a couple slices with tomato and a leaf of fresh basil, sprinkle with just a touch of balsamic vinegar. Again, if I need a vehicle for those yummy toppings, cucumber slices or thin slices of jicama does the trick nicely. Since I gave up most breads, I can't have a true caprese, but it's close enough. Occasionally I snack on a 1/4 cup of seeds or nuts, or a few slices of avocado. On rare occasions, I just eat a tblsp of Peanut Butter. That satisfies nicely. :laugh0: But that's high calorie, so only on certain days when I need the extra cals (like if I forgot to eat--which sometimes happens.) Sometimes I get tired of cottage cheese. If I want some extra flavor, I will mix in some green onion dip mix. Just for something different. Another thing that's pretty tasty as a snack or lunch...chop thin slices of turkey (lunch meat breast works well) mix with El Pato sauce, and throw on some grated cheddar. If you're craving something medium hot & spicey--it does the trick! GG
  12. I'm 18 days post op today. I've gone from 214 at the time of surgery down to 201.1. And there I sit... all week. I know that is remarkable weight loss for just 3 weeks, but I was expecting to be in the "honeymoon" period a bit longer. I feel like I'm in a bad relationship - he's good to me for a few weeks and ignores me for one. It just seems cruel to teeter me at the precipice of Onederland. I want in that land really damn bad. I need some reality checks and pep talks. I've been battling dehydration for the past three days and really focusing on getting in my 8 glasses of water a day (64 oz). I also find that I eat an average of 800 calories a day - 60-70 grams of protein, 18 grams of fat, and about 35-50 carbs a day. Ideas?

    What is a typical day??

is 1000 calories a day average or low or high...and what about carbs...hwo many of them to u intake
  14. LeAnne19

    What is a typical day??

I usually have about 1000 Calories a day. If I go less I generally stop losing. I usually have 3 1 cup meals a day, No snackies. It works for me, but everyone is different! I love to cook, and I live alone, so it is easy to freeze everything already with portion control applied. I don't consume very many liquid calories. On days I eat very low cal, I will supplement with a Protein shake. Breakfast- 1 egg Over Easy and 2 Slices Turkey Bacon Or 1/2 Cup Cottage cheese and 1/2 Cup Diced Pears Lunch- 3oz lunch meat 1oz Cheese and 1/2 cup of a veggie or fruit Dinner- 3oz of Meat and 1/2 cup of a Veggie
  15. However much weight you need to lose is irrelevant to how the band works and how soon you can eat. You had it put on your stomach, if you want it to stay there, you need to follow the post op schedule. That means 4 weeks liquids for you. You can manage your hunger well on liquids if you've clever about it. It doesnt have to be that hard. My doctor said that anythign that goes up a straw is a liquid and I've heard that said many many times on here. So..... if you're hungry, as you're able, blend REAL food up to liquid consistency. Dont try to survive on Water and juice and Protein shakes. Blend things that contain meat and vegetables and good carbs, make some hearty Soups and water them down with broth or a can of tomatoes or whatever and blend them up. You can blend up a roast dinner with broth, I know because I did it. My doc was FINE with that. It only has to be liquid, not calorie free. I lost heaps and heaps of weight in the liquids to mushies phase and I was not hungry. When you're hungry, have something to eat(drink). Have your liquid meals small and often. But stick to the schedule or you'll and up right back in hospital. Or maybe not but down the track you'll have problem. Its simply not worth it. Its only a few weeks and if you were committed enough to losing weight to be banded then you should be committed enough to follow the plan. I dont see that its anyone's business but yours how overweight you are and whether or not it was right to choose a band, mind your own beeswax is what I'd say to those people. But there's SO much information out there on the band, that even if your doctor has been completely and utterly negligent, you should have been able to find out that the band is not a magic cure all.

    week three woes

I had my surgery on 7/1, I am eating about 1/2 -3/4 of food a day. Plus getting between 60 and 80 grams of Protein per day. Here is what I usually eat. 1 greek yogurt/ 1/2 cream of cream of wheat 1 glass of V8 lunch egg drop Soup dinner 3oz of grilled grouper (mushy) 1 tomato slice (no skin just the center ( chewed until mushy consistency) pinch of feta cheese Last night I was starving so I had about 1/2 c of refried Beans with a pinch of cheese, 1 t of guacamole. My calories range between 600-800 per day. There is a list of mushy foods that really helped me at the grocery store. What I am worried about am I eating too much.. I feel no restriction at all, I am finally feeling what a lot of people on here are feeling. I eat when I am satisfied and not to full. I was so worried about everything and my doctor told me " stop worrying and live you life" So that is what I have been doing. I have stopped the Protein drinks (I know a bad idea, but I am still getting the protein I need daily.) My question is do you think I should be doing anything different? Or is there any suggestions? I still have had no bread, Pasta, crackers anything crunchy, no sweets, and no potatoes. Like I am not a schedule person. So like it is 5pm and I have eaten cream of wheat and a cheese stick. Of course Water. I have been only been eating when hungry. Thanks in advance!!

    Lost 200lbs

As of today I have lost 200lbs. I started at 439 and today 239. My goal was to reach 239 by April 1st, but with God's help, hard work at the gym by burning 2000 - 2100 calories a day in cardio and weightlifting and eating around 1100 to 1200 calories a day i have hit my goal much earlier than expected. I'm so proud of myself because i haven't weighed under 250 since i was 13 years old and I'm 38 now. For anyone thinking they can't lose the weight use my story as inspiration because it can be done, and i will help anyone that wants to try. I have to thank my husband and kids for keeping me focused everyday and loving me. I also can't forget the rest of my family, who has also given me the encouragement i needed also. 19. I am right there with you! I was banded on Nov. 17th and when I went home, I had lost about 18lbs from pre-op diet and Clear Liquids only. I haven't lost a pound since. I had my first fill on Dec. 17th, but still did not feel restriction. Occasionally something gets stuck, but I can eat way more than I know I am supposed to. I started journaling food again - which I SWORE I would never do again, and I am eating too many calories, but I am hungry all the time. I still think I am eating less than I did before surgery, so I feel like I should be losing. I do need to exercise more too. However, what I am doing is, again, more than I was doing before. I am thinking about calling for another fill before my next one is scheduled on 1/29. Good Luck. I keep telling myself that this is going to work, but it's hard to believe when the scale is not moving.

    Opinion Please

Carbs are not bad and carbs in oatmeal are really good for you although I think it is better to cook it yourself than use instant. One thing oats are good for are lowering cholesterol If this is a short term solution to get over the hump then I don't see a problem. Sometimes knowing what you are able to eat in advance and being able to grab it quickly and easily makes a huge difference. Why not try the lower calorie option and if you do get hungry have a glass of milk or some non starchy vegetables to help fill you up. Good luck and let us know how it works.
  22. Thanks for the encouragement you guys! I guess that I didn't think of people including their pre-surg weight loss. I will try bumping up my calorie intake. I have just been afraid to do it because of the stall. I go for another fill on the 31st so hopefully that will help with the hungry feeling. I got 1.2cc on my first fill so I am at 3.2cc right now, she originally put in 1.8cc but had to remove .6cc because I couldn't get the sip of Water to go down. I am going to continue with the exercise because it just makes me feel good! I have noticed that my clothes are fitting a little more loosely in the waist and thighs and my stomach has gone down some. Just not seeing it on the scale. Good luck to you all as well! By the way where did you get the weight loss ticker from?

Will I Ever Reach My Goal

@@MiTurner247 I am also 5'4", and can't seem to get below 160. My body likes to hang at 165, and I have to fight to get below it. I've been at this weight for a year. I've tried eating less, exercising, but so far this seems to be where I'm stuck. I try not to just think about that elusive number on the scale, but it's hard not to! I do think that if I would stay below 900 calories indefinitely and exercise daily it would probably go lower...but life gets in the way. I think you look great, and from that picture, you don't look overweight at all! I go round and round with myself (and I'm sorry, but I subject my family and BP friends to the crazy loop playing in my head). Right now I'm trying the 5:2 to see if that will make a difference. If not....I am going to try to be happy where I am and work to become stronger and more fit, and focus on mainlining the loss. We know how easy it would be to go back up! Congratulations on your success!

Dear grsha46, What I found is, the less I eat the carbs, slowly the cravings do lessen (but not completely go away) - even before the band, during the pre-op diet - I had a 3 month one. HOWEVER - it is so much easier to skip the sweets when you can only eat small amounts of food AND you are FULL. You do need to stick to the rules, eat Protein first, then veggies and fruit. By this time, you're usually too full for the sweets. When you're not hungry, the sweets loose their appeal. I watch calories - YES, it's like a diet. However, I've never been able to stick to a diet this long - and that's because the band helps me by making my stomach too small to eat large (or even 'normal") portions. Then I get too full, and don't get around to eating the sweets. Even with the band, you really need to be focused on eating healthy and avoiding fat and sugar laden foods. My instructions are to eat 60 - 80 grams of protein a day, and when you do this, it takes up a lot of room in the band. Sure, I still have a sweet treat once and while....but nothin' like before. Now we're talking one cookie maybe once every two weeks, and I fit it into my daily calorie intake. I also eat sugar free treats - they are really good - and don't have lots of carbs. Connecting back to God is a great thing! It helps us find a purpose in life, and supports us along the way. Go fo it! My family and I are Christians, and I pray for continued success and give thanks for the wonderful change that has happened in my life. I believe God sent certain events and people my way so that this would happen for me. I LOVED to eat! It took me a year to decide I was ready to put the food down and take this step to be banded. At first, I didn't think I could do it, and then I realized food wasn't that important -- I wanted to get rid of my diabetes meds (I have!) and my BP meds (I'm down to 1/2 a pill) and my cholesterol med (gone!) and be able to enjoy the activities I've missed out on all these years! And most of all, I want to be here in 20 years to be with my grandkids (If I ever have some). If I can do this, so can you!
