Revision surgery: Why will this time be different?
Mammysm replied to KSW22's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Boy do I know how you feel...went in for surgery Oct. 25th , 2021 to have the "Sadi" done...I, too, woke up to find it could not be done because of too much scar tissue..the Dr. did remove some of the scar tissue, guess that's good. I knew there was a chance that this may not be able to be a success because of the scar tissue, most of which is from a couple of abdomen surgeries from yrs gone by. I do however still have the sleeve and it hasn't stretched..but just couldn't succeed with it, very little weight loss.. Long story short, they sent me home that night, just as sore nonetheless. This was my last chance at Bariatric anything, already had the Lapland, that was horrible, sick so much...but anyhow thought I would get my 2 cents in....and don't know what I will do now...I just did the 2 week liquid diet....with great anticipation..feeling disappointed in Maine...Donna -
Cramping with almost every sip!
Tony B - NJ replied to Fross's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Really pretty standard to have some discomfort this close to the surgery. The important thing is to get water in as much as possible by sipping slowly and near constantly. Every day will get better and by the second week the improvement will be very drastic. Hang in there, it gets much better. -
Zero regrets. None. In hindsight, I had nothing to be nervous about. Rest for the first few day/week, go easy for a few weeks & you’ll be amazed at how good you feel. Honestly, I’ve had dental work that was more of a struggle. Good luck!

Thoughts about slowish loss
lizonaplane replied to Myran's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've lost just over 20 lbs in just over 6 weeks, and I'm very happy about it! The people who lose a ton of weight the first few months are likely much larger than you. You started out at a lower BMI than many who had surgery. I had surgery just about your weight and same height. I don't think you're losing slowly at all! -
November Surgery Buddies!!!
AustinLady replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello! November 11 surgery in Austin. I am starting my pre-op diet today. 1 week “lean and green” to go into ketosis, then 1 week liquid diet. -
4 week Post-Op Update Continuing to heal well and the muscle pain is largely gone now. I am back in the office working full time days. Biggest challenge has been getting the compression garments to work with my work clothing (pants like to slide down the slick compression bands). 2 more weeks of compression bands, then I get to transition to regular compression shirts or shorts. Would be interested to hear from the guys what products worked well for them. Below are some pics showing the healing progress. I see the doctor again at 3 months PO, so we should be able to see the final results by then.

Thoughts about slowish loss
The Greater Fool replied to Myran's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You've lost 31.8% of your excess weight in 7 weeks. 1/3 of your excess weight in less than 2 months. I lost about 13% of my excess weight in my first 2 months. I made it to goal and past goal, and am still at a normal BMI. You've convinced yourself you are not doing well when, in fact, you are doing extraordinarily well. Get off the scale. It's the devil. Continued success and good luck. Tek -
Sharing a huge NSV 😊
Tony B - NJ replied to mgigi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
In a semi related and semi non scale victory....I am going on vacation this week so I have been packing. I usually try to get as much in my checked luggage as possible, right up to my 50 pounds allowed. I stuffed my bag full and tried to weight in on the scale but could not get it balanced enough. I decided to step on the scale, weight myself then pick up the bag and weigh again to be able to get the bags weight. I was incredibly awe struck when I realized that the combined weight of the bag and me were much less than the weight of just me 2 months ago! Yes, scale, but not really in the traditional sense so I call it a non scale victory. -

I am on liquid Tylenol 🤢 I have been walking a lot still trying to drink baby sips and even drove down the block ( big mistake lol I won't be doing that again for a week or so) . I am hoping it gets a little better. I did make the protein shake and was able to easily take 4-5 sips, 1 every 10 minutes . Today I'll try again . It's been so rough ! Thank you for your kind words !🥰 -
3weeks post op feeling like I am failing Help!!
Arabesque replied to sarahhayes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
By 6 weeks @Cindy51, you should be moving on from soft foods & starting to add more dense foods. Think slow cooked meats, minced meats, thick meat soups, flaky fish, eggs, rolled oats, cheese, yoghurt, etc. Start adding more vegetables (well cooked mushy not coarse nor fibrous) now too. I didn’t have a single shake after the first two weeks & I started on purées. My surgeon was happy if I was close to reaching my protein goal those first few weeks. It can be a struggle if you’re not eating much like me at that time: barely 3 meals a day & only about 300 calories in weeks 3 & 4. I’d have a high protein yoghurt drink every second day mid afternoon - it counted as protein & fluids - double win! You may find the calories (carbs & sugar) in the canned fruit too high at this stage @Cindy51. Of course how much you eat will influence what percentage of your daily diet the canned fruit contributes. I wasn’t allowed any fruit for a couple of months then fresh only. Fruit is still the only non protein meal/snack I have. I was adding vegetables by then (non fibrous not coarse). A little steamed cabbage, a small cauliflower floret, a green bean or two. I would add carrots, celery, onions, tomatoes, capsicum to any soups or stews/casseroles I made - nice & mushy. Two things you can rely on while you’re losing: stalls happen & we all lose at our own rate. Celebrate every one of those pounds you’ve lost so far. -
My weight loss journey after surgery
Candace76 replied to kirbymike1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on your surgery! You must be ready for that next phase of the diet. I know I couldn't wait for my soft food stage after 2 weeks of liquids. I hope you are healing well & that you are able to incorporate more foods soon. Good luck! -
I’m a slowish loser (around 21 lbs in 7 weeks since surgery) and even though it is frustrating at times I’m trying to stay positive. I wanted to share my recent thoughts around the subject. No matter whether I lose only a pound in a week it is still one pound gone hopefully forever from my body. I also kind of like the idea of losing slowly as it gives my mind and body time to adjust to the loss, and for some reason, I believe the pounds are more likely to stay off when I shed them slowly. Naturally, it took me decades to pile on the weight so there is no way it will be gone in a few months. And finally despite how quickly or slowly I’m losing I would never regret the surgery because without it I would probably have gained at least as much weight as I have now lost. The weekend is approaching so have a great one!

Any October 2021 Surgeries?
Shouldhaveknown replied to devotion's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I totally understand this thread! I’m 4 weeks post op and that first week it was so painful to drink. Like fluids would hit my stomach and my abdomen would seize and scream in pain. I actually ended up getting readmitted a week later because of dehydration. I just couldn’t get enough in and take the pain. -
Any October 2021 Surgeries?
Breanne (w 2 pups) replied to devotion's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey all! I’m three weeks post op today from bypass. I’ve been very lucky with easily getting down the required liquids and my small blended meals. I’m suddenly struggling with food obsession again. I was okay the first while bc I knew I couldn’t, but now I’m trying actual food and really want the “bad” food. I want pizza and creamy pastas and the chocolate. I’ve held off so far, but have been creeping over the calories. It doesn’t help that I’m not losing much weight. “Only” 5 lbs in the last two weeks. I think the amount of free time isn’t helping. I’m still off work and most of my friends/family are busy this time of year. Any suggestions? -
3weeks post op feeling like I am failing Help!!
catwoman7 replied to sarahhayes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 16 lbs the whole first month, and i started out at almost 400 lbs. People lose at all different rates due to a bunch of different factors, many of which you have little to no control over, including age, gender, starting BMI, metabolic rate, percentage of your body that is muscle, whether or not you lost a bunch of weight before surgery, etc. The only two things you have a lot of control over are your activity level and how closely you stick to your clinic's program. If you do well with those two things, you WILL lose the weight, whether fast or slow. I was a slow loser from the get-go and ended up losing 100% of my excess weight. if you havent' lost any weight in a week and you're following your program, then you're just in a stall. Happens to most of us - and you're likely to have more along the way. When you hit one, just stick to your program and stay off the scale for a few days - and know that it'll eventually break and the weight loss will start up again. They typically last 1-3 weeks. -
Nope. Some brief stalls but pretty consistent loss all along. Now two months past my 2 year mark I’ve dropped another 5 lbs. I’m now making a concerted effort to maintain. I’m happy, healthy, fit, and have zero ill effects from surgery. I followed the plan I was given, I now eat a slightly higher carb content diet, but still focus on protein first.

Sugar cravings and hungry after sleeve
lizonaplane replied to Sabsab's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have sugar cravings unless I see some tasty looking treat, but I'm hungry all the time, and have been since a week after surgery. I've tried more fiber, more fat, more protein, more liquid... basically the only thing that helps me personally is to drink hot tea with milk or sugar free hot chocolate between meals (usually hot tea). If you find something that helps, please post it here so maybe I'll find something else to try!!! -
3weeks post op feeling like I am failing Help!!

I would apply for insurance in the market place online. This is so unfortunate. At six weeks I was eating ground meats (and like one green bean if I had room after 4 oz.). Most of the time I could tolerate 3oz. and would snack on low-fat cheese or chicken bone broth LS to make up the protein. I smeared veggies into a sauce to put on the meat, average amount 1 teaspoon. -
Hi everyone. I had gastric bypass on September 28 and so far, things are great. I'm down 31 lbs., I feel fantastic and I've already been able to eliminate some medications. Here's my question... I was very constipated after surgery (which I know is to be expected) and had only gone 2 or 3 times in 3 weeks, even when using benefiber every morning and evening. After discussing with my doctor, I started fiber chews at twice the normal dose (2 chews twice a day) until things started moving normally, and two days ago knocked it back to 1 chew twice a day. Now, my poops are regular (usually once a day) but I'm concerned that they are very light colored and they float. I've done some research online and this can indicate several different things, including liver disease (I did have non-alcoholic fatty liver prior to surgery) or malabsorption (not getting enough nutrients). I'm just starting my soft foods phase, so I wasn't able to have much fiber until now but I'm curious if any others had experienced this particular issue, and if it turned out to me anything major. I feel better than I have in years and have so much energy, so I think if it were something serious I would know. I'd just like to see if anyone else had any insight. Thanks! Missy

Any October 2021 Surgeries?
Shrinkingvee replied to devotion's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m ok now as not hormonal but I got irritated when I couldn’t do what I would normally do before a period. I don’t regret it now. my surgeon said that our hormones are out of whack when we have surgery because as we burn fat the hormones react differently? I’ve been very emotional some days. anyone that thinks this is an easy walk in the park are very mistaken. you have to work for it. I’ve lost 15lbs in 2 weeks and 3 days and before op I lost 16 pounds on the milk liver shrinking pre op diet so I can’t complain although everyone loses differently. I think we all think sometimes it should be faster but losing this fast has never happened before and for that I’m grateful.I’ve been doing walks again finally I feel so much better other than pain on one side the incision where they take the stomach out. I know every day will get better, change isn’t easy but it will be worth it. -
3weeks post op feeling like I am failing Help!!
Cindy51 replied to sarahhayes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I am going on 6 weeks post op and am only down 18 lbs. I feel like I am failing as well, I haven't lost for a full week. I can get all of my liquids down but am unsure of how many carbs I can consume with canned fruit and other easily consumed carbs like sugar free pudding. My company recently went on strike and my insurance has been cancelled so no dietician appointments for the near future. Does anyone have any suggestions? Anything would be great! I am tolerating 1/4 cup meals of canned chicken and veggies... -

I'm not entirely sure what you mean, either, but if you mean you've stalled this week, then you're experiencing the infamous "three week stall" that probably 90% of us experience. Just so you know, this will likely just be the first of many. To get through it, just stick to your program and stay off your scale for a few days. Your weight loss WILL start up again (although probably not 30 lbs - losses really slow down after the first month). if you want to read more about the stall, do a search of this site on the three week stall. Last time I checked, there were over 17,500 posts on it (and no, I am NOT kidding..) -
Hello! I received gastric sleeve surgery on October 13th. It has been very re-assuring to read all of your stories and questions. Knowing that many of you are having the same pains and issues has helped calm a lot of my concerns/fears. I will admit that these first two weeks were very challenging. I had many “why on earth did I choose this?” moments. I am seriously grieving the loss of my favorite foods. Lord please help me control myself if I have to watch another gooey cheese pizza commercial! But, I decided to have gastric sleeve when my blood pressure kept creeping up to dangerously high levels (190s). I was scared I would have a heart attack any day. This surgery has renewed my hope in my future long life. Since I started working with the nutritionist at the end of July, I have lost 46 pounds. After surgery, my blood pressure has reached normal healthy numbers (110) for the first time in years! So, I am trying to remain focused on the positive reasons rather than my loss of gooey cheese pizza.
