So I started working out with a trainer at 2.5 months post-op (would have started at 2 months but wanted to wait until I was fully vaccinated). I am doing both cardio and weight training and I will tell you that has been a huge part of my success. I am up to 1200-1300 calories a day now (9.5 months post op) but I am usually working out 7-8 hours a week (strength training 3-4 times a week, cardio on the other days). I am doing my next “bod pod” scan Friday but I did one when I started with the trainer and 1 in mid-July. From end of March to mid-July I lost 35 lbs on the scale, but it was really 41.5 lbs of fat as I gained 6.6 lbs of muscle. I know I am going to need plastic surgery but at least I am seeing the benefits of doing the weight training. As you can see from my progress, this certainly hasn’t inhibited my weight loss. And bonus - the more muscle you have, the more effective your body is at burning calories. So it’s a win-win.

Anyone get covid or other illness during sleeve recovery?
holly.. posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wondering if anyone tested positive for covid or had influenza, bronchitis, stomach flu within days/weeks of surgery and what your experience has been like? my surgery is in 8 days and I usually get sick a few times this time of year- so nervous -
Thank you so much for your reply !! Yes it's very hard to find the right information and exactly what to do in the gym. I heard that you're supposed to do the exact same routine for a few weeks and not switch up the exercises every week to actually see results. Your workout plan is really helpful, I will look up the exercises and start with this. Thank you so much !

I’m so glad you posted this question! I could use some help myself! Here are a couple exercises I was given by a trainer. They are 3x per week. 20 x 3 reps. I started with 5lb weights and moved up to 8. I had to you tube a few of them. They are lower impact but super effective.

Too much weight loss? Is that really possible?
WishMeSmaller replied to mae7365's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had a difficult time stopping the weight loss. I ended up cutting back just a little on my exercise regimen (I also refused to give up my new, healthy addiction), and focused on eating more. I still eat plenty of protein, but I eat a lot more carbs now. My weight is stable and my friends/family have stopped hassling me about my weight. I eat around 2000 calories a day and exercise about 6 days a week, including running and weight training along with other cardio, and yoga. I feel great and I like how my body looks. Good luck! -
Too much weight loss? Is that really possible?

I have a call with the Bariatric Dietician on Tuesday to discuss my continued weight loss. My primary care doctor is concerned that I continue to loose weight (8 pounds in 5 weeks) this far out from surgery. I've lost 60 pounds since RNY last year and 97 pounds since my pre-op weight pre-sleeve. The dietician thinks I'm in calorie deficit because I'm very active - I walk 5 miles 4-5 days/week and do Zumba 3 days/week. But I refuse to give up my healthy exercise habits! At 64, I never expected to look athletic and have muscle definition vs. sagging skin. (I still have sagging skin, but the muscle has really helped minimize the flabbiness!) My husband and children are concerned - "Are you sure you don't have cancer?" "You need to gain some weight, you look too skinny" "Are you sure you are ok?"...… If it was just petty people commenting vs. my family, I'd blow it off. I keep assuring them that I'm the healthiest I've been since my 20's. I'm hoping that talking to the dietician will give me the tools I need to level out the weight loss without giving up my healthy lifestyle. I guess I'm just looking to see if there are others in this forum that have experienced the same thing. I refuse to call it a problem, I'd rather call it a challenge. -
Thanks for the Reps to the rhythms. Right now my favorite exercise is just walking hills on treadmill for 2 miles or rowing 2 miles. Since surgery I have only walked pretty flat on treadmill. Waiting for clearance from doc which is 2 or 6 weeks I assume

WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?
Summermoose replied to phenomenally_me's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Little update, I’ll be 9 weeks po tomorrow and have lost 50 pounds! I’m so happy 😁 it took me a while to notice the weight coming off because I still felt the same, but I now also weigh less than my husband for the first time ever and I think that flipped a switch! -
Pre-Op Struggling

My surgical team called the first week of the three shake a day diet hell week. You’re breaking a lot of addictions & food dependencies but you usually just have to get through that first week. I thank God I didn’t have to do it this time (done it a couple of unforgettable times in the past for myself). I had to follow keto for about 2.5 weeks. Good luck. -
The three week stall others mentioned is very common. Just stick to your plan and the weight loss will pickup. I never had any problem drinking liquids either. I tried to slow down but if I drink without thinking about it I realize I can drink as much as i did pre surgery.
-
Exactly what @catwoman7 said. The stall is normal and it will move in a week or two, just stay off the scale. I can easily drink 100-150 ml of fluid at once, and have been able to since about 3-4 weeks out. I try not to, but sometimes I'm just ####ing thirsty!

So lately I've noticed that when I move my arms, there's a "pulling" sensation in the back, like there's a marionette string that's caught or something. I haven't worked out my triceps at all. (Seriously, not at all.) It's never happened before, and I don't know if it's surgery-related (I'm almost 7 weeks out). Anyone else have this?

Pre-Op Struggling
Astonishing Mr J replied to AmazonSleeved's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi All New to the forum. I am post op and one day away from starting puree. I am a professional chef and I wanted to just answer your question from my experience thus far. I too was going nuts after day 3 but then I think I figured out why. The main problem with the pre-op and post-op liquid diets is they are antithetical to the way we eat from a taste perspective. We may be getting nutrients and protein and, sure, it's weird to drink all of your food but the biggest unaddressed issue is that most societies don't eat sweet over savory. With a regular diet we may eat a sweet thing for breakfast but mostly it is three savory meals punctuated by little moments of sweet. A dessert, a cookie etc. With this diet all the nutrients comes from things that are way sweet and we might punctuate it with savory. This may be the very thing driving you mad. Now, I will preface this by saying, check with your doctor first. My doctor approved the following. Rather than all sweet shakes I was able to buy unflavored Whey Protein Isolate. I bought a good quality with a high dissolve/absorption ability. I then was able to go to the store and find broth that was better than your Swanson chicken broth. I recommend, if you can find it, Zoup Chicken Broth or Bone Broth (bone broth has more protein which you will want to get as much as you can), Target's brand of Miso, Ramen or Pho starter broth. These are clear, low in calories and packed with flavor. Heat a cup of these to about 140ºF or lower. Any hotter and it does weird things to the powder. Add one scoop, stir till dissolved and give the cup another 30 sec of heat up in the microwave. You get everything you get in the shakes, clear liquid broth and tons of allowable flavor. My second recommendation is to look into a company called Unjury. They make a protein powder chicken soup that tastes like Mrs. Grass. They also do a Southwest Chilli flavor but I am actually regretting having bought that since it is just OK. Anyway, talk to your doctor and try it. I found that getting back to mostly savory punctuated by sweet was my saving grace. -

Pre-Op Struggling

What does your doctor allow you and for how long ? Big hugs. I am in your place next week -
1) you've hit the infamous three week stall. Happens to probably 90% of us. Just stick to your program and stay off the scale for a few days. It'll eventually break and you'll be on your way again. It usually lasts 1-3 weeks (that "gain" is likely just water weight) 2) yes - fluids go right through you. Some people have a hard time getting them down, but I never did. I didn't drink any differently than I did before surgery. Your stomach will tell you if you're going too fast.

I tried Chicken at 2 weeks plus but dud not go well. Threw it all up felt awful I think it's called dumping It scared the life out of me. But Tried it at just over 3 weeks was fine really enjoyed it. My nutrition lady said don't have anything dry always make sure it's moist it helps it slide down. Xxx

Any October 2021 Surgeries?
Shrinkingvee replied to devotion's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Yes as body was in shock after surgery so the loss was more but it will level out so I’ve been told and you’ll find the following week you will lose more to make up for it, if you know what I mean. -
Did you taste buds change immediately?
pintsizedmallrat replied to AngieL11282's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I got the first signal mine had "changed" about a week in while I was still on liquids. Anything artificially sweetened (to include protein shakes, Propel, Mio, etc) began tasting like gross, bitter chemicals to me and I couldn't even begin to choke them down. I have been basically drinking plain water, and occasionally some juice and water that has been diluted like 4-1 water/juice just for some fruit flavor, and later, plain white milk, which I HATED before my surgery but that first small glass of skim milk tasted so fresh and nourishing after a week of water. -
Is there a 3 week stall? I was wondering 😉

Dear All i have 3 weeks post op. Two Questions for the community: 1- I have started losing a lot of weight in the first two weeks and now have actually gained some even though my food intake is still in the liquid phase. Is this normal, read a lot and its apparently normal. 2- Water consumption, is it normal that fluids flow right through me, i am to gulp a lot of water circa a 500 ml bottle at once and not feel any pain. I just had a 200 ml Protein Shake, 7 oz , of liquid alongside 6 oz(170ml) of light very liquid Soup and about 400ml(13.5 oz)of water and nothing no pain no feeling of vomiting no pain....is that normal?

I’ll be 5 months post Surgery tomorrow. .8 shy of 60lbs lost…which when I first talked to my surgeon I said I’d be happy just losing 60lbs. I am comfortable in my body again, but the weight loss will continue. New goal - get to a “healthy” BMI. I made it thru a 2 week vacation at Walt Disney World …where I didn’t lose, came home up a measly 0.6lbs. Lost 8.2 in the 3 weeks since I got home. So that’s a positive. The trip did not derail my progress.

I haven't had that happen to me in over 20 years. It happened a couple of times back then but since then it's always been delivered to me discretely, rolled up and covered by the attendendant's hand as she/he passes it to me. It's important to tell the attendant at the door upon entering. Sometimes they can hand you one just then. Otherwise it will be delivered to your seat before they come around to make sure all belts are fastened. I've flown Delta, American, United, Southwest, and international flights with no issues over getting an extender discretely. Once on Royal Air Moroc I was bumped into Business Class (from my fully occupied three-across row} because they couldn't find one for me. (Score!)

I’m in the US ! How about you? I’m doing okay! I think I hit that 3 week stall everyone talks about! But I was recently cleared for eggs, tuna & flaky fishes! What stage they have you in?
