    Water after working out

We're all different. I was getting in 64 oz on day 5 post-op. I could guzzle Water pretty early on. I exercise 1-2 hours, 7 days a week and have no problem getting in my water. I keep a water bottle on the eliptical, treadmill or other equipment, and just drink as needed. I always have water with me on a hike. I bet you'll do just fine.

I was able to take all my meds without having to split them at about five weeks out without any problems. Sent from my iPad using VST
  5. Is it normal to have extremely dry skin after surgery?? For the last 2 weeks my skin has been flaking off and looks like I'm heeling from a sun burn. It is horrible and no matter how much cream or lotion I put on it doesn't go away!!!

    Feeling like utter crap

I don't do any special pre or post work out. I just fuel up a string cheese if I feel a little hungry going to the gym. After workout, I have a protein bar. I wouldn't worry and the special concoctions unless you are hard core working out, or at least until you get your diet situation straighten out. If you feel like crap, stop going to the gym, and take some days off. It won't hurt you. Take a week off. In fact every couple months at a gym, you should eb changing up your routine in a significant way. Maybe take a big break, and trying some jogging and train yourself into a 5k. Make sure you are eating enough carbs and protein. You could feel like crap because you are physically exhausted because you are not eating enough. Sent from my ONEPLUS A6013 using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. I'm pretty sure my nutritionist told me that I could start taking regular sized pills at 4 weeks. Does anyone else know the answer to this? I have Calcium citrate pills that I would love to take instead of the gross chewable tablets, ugh! Thanks!

Now one week past op I lost 31 pounds
  9. I saw this article too - it is a great message.... I have alot of anxiety (two kids with autism disorder pretty much sums up why :-))... and I drank alot of wine and took Lexapro prior to surgery.... after surgery, when they told me I had to crush up all my pills - I just stopped taking the Lexapro (I had to take 2 pills of this alone)... the docs (when I told them what I did) where not happy because your body is going through so much already - you just can't stop cold turkey - but I did :-)... now I'm 6 weeks post-op today and still haven't taken any Lexapro.... my pcp and I decided to see if my exercising would replace the need for meds and we are going to take a look at where I am in about a month from now.... I still have "issues" with my anxiety, and question my decision on coming off of Lexapro sometimes - but as I increase my exercise time, I think this is helping - I know they said 8 mins a day, but I'm probably not up to the "speed" yet they imply in that 8 minutes :-) I guess I'm doing my own "research" and study on this... we'll see but so far so good! p.s. I use a fitbit and am soooo addicted to it - this helps me get motivated to stay active!

    Leaks

@@lachellove @@MoniqueMcCoy - anything is possible but why worry about what you cannot really control at this point? I felt the same way and the other concern was the hair loss. I am a little over three months post and I am down 70lbs from my HW about 6 months ago. Follow your doctors & NUTs instructions and breathe and try to relax. I can also tell you that you may feel buyers remorse for a couple of days post-op. Like WTH did I just do to myself???? I had it on day two, first full day home. I realized there was no going back (stomach was in a bio-hazard container somewhere headed to God knows where...). I really didn't have any post-op issues either - no nausea, gas pains, etc. I just grasped the whole idea that it was DONE. Funny thing is I realized within about a day that I NEEDED this surgery to LIVE the rest of my life without huffing & puffing, sweating & squeezing, getting bigger & bigger... NO REGRETS!!!

    Exercise questions

Hi, I think that is a bit excessive too. I have been losing weight steadily for the past 2 1/2 months (still very new) as I have been losing I have gained oodles of energy. I workout about 5 times a week now but not for an hour each time. The days when I am really busy I try to do higher intensity exercise and on the weekends I do longer walks. I think you should just try and do as much as you can and you will see that you will soon feel like doing more.

    Mountain (trail) biking

I would wait the 6 weeks. I started riding 2 weeks out and I can tell you the port hurts like heck and remains sore. Let the port heal properly before putting strain on the muscle that the port is attached to. Just my opinion.
  13. I have been walking briskly for about 2 months now. I have got up to 3 miles 3 times a week on a walking path. The other days only around 2 miles on a treadmill plus weight training 3-4 times a week. The past 2 weeks, I have had severe cramping in my calves and my back hurts really bad. I am 54 years old so that may have something to do with it but I feel as if I am missing something in my diet, vitamins or something. I have also stopped losing weight which has not been coming off real well anyway. I have to keep an eye on the calorie intake to be sure I get at least 800 calories a day. I have started a protien shake but the cramping is still there. Any suggestions appreciated.

    Losing/Stall/Gaining

I pretty much exercised regularly since having the vsg. Started walking everyday from surgery and built up to about 3 miles before I started Jazzercise and tap class at a month post-op. I had short little stalls here and there, but I also wasn't as compliant with the post-op diet as others. I low-carbed (around 30 grams or less) it for 3 months, but did not always get my Protein in. At around 3 months I was over half way to my goal and decided to try and lose the rest the way I wanted to maintain. For me this included exercising 5-7 days per week and not tracking carbs. (I felt that I would burn them off with the exercise:-) I did notice that the couple of weeks I couldn't exercise as regularly (due to snow, illness, etc.) I seemed to have bigger losses than those weeks with lots of exercise. Don't know why this was...could have just been a change up to my routine that allowed me to drop fast. So I guess what I'm saying with all this rambling is that I don't think exercise was crucial for weight with the vsg, but I do think it was important for allowing me to lose it the way I wanted to (carbs and all).

Thanks so much for clearing that up. I am at a stall now:mad0:. I was 289 at surgery and now I am 250 . its been 8 weeks now. I try very hard to measure and count foods. Any Crossfitters here?

I've been going to CrossFit 1-3x/week for about 2 months now - usually twice a week. I got passes for 20 classes to 2 different studios through Groupon, I'm nearing the end of my classes with the first studio. I like it a lot, I enjoy intense workouts that are more about short bursts of energy rather than endurance (e.g. running). I think I'll keep it up after my Groupon discount passes are over. It's pretty brutal though, I always go to the Saturday morning class and then I'm basically a vegetable for the rest of the day. Today my boyfriend commented that my arms hang half-bent in front of my body - took me a second to realize I have to forcibly straighten my arms thanks to the 200 ring rows I did earlier this morning.

    Spinning classes

I just wanted to share my love for spinning classes and see if anyone else here is also a fan?! I was sleeved on November 19th 2012 and just recently got my fitness and exercise regimen going! I go to spinning classes about 3 times a week at the gym I joined and I LOVE THEM. I come out exhausted, drenched in sweat, and feeling SO ACCOMPLISHED! I love the music and the fun during the classes, we even have special days when a live DJ spins music during classes! I've lost about 70 pounds since I started my pre-op diet November 4th, 2012. Highest weight was 296 and current weight 226. Goal weight- 150, I'm hoping spinning helps me meet that goal!!!!

    exercise time of day

Last week I came across a thread from bodybuilding .com dated 4//23/2007 that addressed this same issue. A poster on that thread, PeteB claims from a previous article on bodybuilding.com he read "that 10 minutes of moderate cardio will purge about 50% of the accumulated lactic acid, and another ten minutes will purge 25% more." This was apparently suggested with the expectation that light easy cardio for a cool down will be sufficient - nothing aggressive. So....I went back and did not see a link to articles, and the science may have changed in seven years.......but food for thought and further investigation.

    Need newbie goal/challenge ideas

I agree with signing up for a race! It is fun and very motivating. That really helped me start running, especially when I told others that I signed up for the race. I have found that there are lots of 5K run/walks that you can enter. I also set time/distance goals for myself. I try to get farther within a set time limit. They are personal goals that I set to push myself and see how far or how fast I can go. I might just set a certain number of miles for a given week or I might set a time limit and try to increase the distance within the time limit. Have some fun and push yourself, see what your body can do!

    Need newbie goal/challenge ideas

Definitely sign up for a race! That's what really moved me from running a bit to lose weight into becoming a runner. My first was 4K, then I did a 7.5 six months later, then a 10, then a 14. I mainly stick with 10's now, that tends to be "my" distance, if I run more than that regularly I tend to get niggling injuries. 10's enough to keep anyone fit! But definitely having the goal gives you the motivation to get out and push every week. If you're anything like me I did NOT want to walk during the race! If you're more of a walker, that's fine, enter the race and set a time goal for that and gradually work towards time/distance. I think athletic goals are really really helpful, and there's NOTHING like the self esteem you get from winning a physical challenge - to me it beats actual weight loss hands down.

    Beginner to exercise questions

Okie dokie - I have a question... I was banded in March of this year and almost 4 weeks ago now I started with a personal trainer 3 x a week. A week after I started with the trainer I joined the gym and so the last couple of weeks I've exercised 5 times a week (Mon to Fri). I've noticed though that my weight loss the last couple of weeks is less than what it was before I started exercising and I've had two fills since then and so am eating less, and eating better - After all the Fluid and mushy food stages passed, I knew that the weight loss was going to slow quite a bit and it has been a steady 1 kilo (2.2lbs) a week, over the last two weeks with intense exercise it's been 1.5 kilos in total - am I doing something wrong? Any suggestions would be great!!

    Burping/ Water

holy cow - my personal opinion is that your body is telling you that you're doing too much! At my post op today, I was told no exercise (other than short walks) for a month post op because the stomach is still very swollen. not sure mowing the grass when you're 1 1/2 weeks post op is a good idea, but I'm glad that you're feeling well enough to do so....but be careful, ok?
