Getting sleeved in the morning!
jjflamingoVSG replied to wannaBthinsoon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my VSG on Thursday 4//23 at noon! So I am glad to find someone at the same exact stage as myself:) My surgery was at noon, and my night nurse was very young & busy. But that was the only bumps in the recovery at the hospital - by the time I left I was walking up and down the hall. How are you doing at home? Have you started your pureed foods? Yesterday, I started with yogurt and scrambled eggs. And going to work for a few hours, but expecting to be tired this afternoon. Smart that you are taking this time to take care of you and your body. Sounds like you are doing great! Have a wonderful day! -
It stinks. It's nice to know that I'm not alone. It must be "normal". I do feel a little better every day. I try really hard to get my fluids in. I have been eating Dannon light and fit Greek yogurt. It has 12g of protein per serving. That's my only source of protein right now. People have made some suggestions. I'm going to try some of them. I really appreciate all the responses. Thanks everyone.

foodfighter78 replied to robertweisman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm having a lot of trouble with NO foods. I can't eat tuna, yogurt, eggs, sliced turkey, ham, i get full very easily. If I drink a protein shake I'm done for the all day. I feel lost I'm at 6 weeks, bypass and I don't know what to eat. -
I have been getting my extra protein in by eating yogurt two times a day with a scoop of Genepro protein added to it. This was the only way that I could get it in. I don't like the shakes or the protein bars. I try to eat a little beef jerky during the day as well. Protein has been a bit of a struggle for me.

terrydumont46 replied to DoneItForMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i go to the bathroom and sometimes just the bending over and the slime will bring up the item. but it generally takes a drink of water. this brings it up fast and the discomfort goes away immediately. just don't overdue that day. soups and fluids yogurt you know the drill. just don't sit there until the unthinkable happens. I know in a second if I am stuck and go straight to the restroom. when I first got banded and was learning to eat I pb'd a lot, so it got to the point that my dogs left the room. to hear me burp and waiting to long to go to the bathroom so I had to use the trash can next to my chair. my dogs hated it. -
Mash an avocado and add plain yogurt or sour cream to it along with some lime juice to thin it. Delish.

I'm glad I found it. It makes me feel better reading people questions and responses. I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I had a lot of regret for a couple of days. I was so miserable with nausea. I'm feel a lot better. I can't drink the protein drinks. I'm on purées so I'm get protein from my diet. I still don't know what I'm allowed to eat. So far I eat refried beans (fat free), Greek yogurt, chili, and pudding. I really want to try other things. I have tried everything to get the protein shakes in. I feel like I'm going to vomit every time I try to drink one. I three different kinds, isopure, inspire, and carnation instant breakfast (no sugar added).

Here is the thing, not can take a yogurt that you normally eat and pop it in the freezer. It is delicious and you do not have to worry about the added sugar.

I had RNY surgery. Yogurt was on my list of acceptable foods from day one. But it cannot be the kind of yogurt with fruit on the bottom because of the processed sugar content. As far as frozen yogurt, the concern would be what was added to the yogurt. RNY patients cannot tolerate sugar. A quick search of one brand of frozen yogurt showed that it had 43.9 grams of sugar in one serving. That's bad, very bad. So I guess if you want frozen yogurt, you will need to investigate further. Read the labels in detail. Natural sugars found in fruit and artificial sweeteners are generally O.K. but processed sugars and other sweeteners such as corn syrup are not. The other choice is to make your own frozen yogurt and control the ingredients. Greek yogurt has about twice the Protein as other yogurt. I have included a "berry Smoothie" recipe in the short article I wrote on my experience with Bariatric Surgery. Here is a link. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf When I reached my bottom weight, I completely transitioned off using Protein shakes, and started using berry smoothies instead because I was at that point getting most of my protein from meals. Also I could tolerate more calories in my diet because I was in the maintenance phase.

Day 4 post-op!
GraceysMommy09 replied to GraceysMommy09's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh and the protein shakes I am NOT able to stomach those at all!! I'm eating the absolute zero protein yogurt from oikos that has 15 grams of protein bam!!! Lol so I eat about 2 of those a day and get the rest of my protein from meats that I eat. I try to stay away from carbs especially noodles and bread. My stomach doesn't like them too well. I'm occasionally able to stomach them but they don't have protein so I don't try to fill up on them. Let me know how things are going with the rest of u guys -
Can I have frozen yogurt? I really have a taste for it and I can have regular yogurt.

Thank you for responding! I drink 2 to 2.5 Premier Protien shakes a day, on 5oz greek yogurt, and half a can of soup. I'm getting between 36 to 48 oz of water a day. I am taking a multivitamin daily. I havent started solids and have been told to stay away from bananas. I've been positive before the surgery and 90% positive after. I do get sown at family and friend gatherings that surround food. I have tried to find ways to express this to them, but no luck getting them to understand. I'm now learning how to deal with emotions instead of shoving food down my throat. Never thought the emotion part would be difficult. Miss Mac, thank tou for menttioning the tummy talk back! Mine started doing that four days ago each time I wat my soup. It came out of nowhere. Is that normal? So far I'm so grateful I've been able to do this! I'm 1/3 down to my goal.

Hi all, I am ten days out from VSG. My first eight days I had a tight feeling at the top of my stomach. Not hungry, but when I had something (even water) I would take a sip or little spoonful and have to wait 5-15 minutes before I could even THINK of having another. All was well. I had some nausea and discomfort but it was liveable. Day 8 was the most comfortable for me, I could even lay on my left side pretty well. I didn't take any pain meds that day. I made a poor decision and smoked a little bit of marijuana with a friend. Just a bit. And all of a sudden, that super tight, super full feeling is GONE. I am able to comfortably have a few decent sips of Water at a time. Instead of maybe 3 little baby spoons of yogurt in a time period, I was able to manage five. Did I mess up, because the restrictive feeling is gone? Am I okay? Is that supposed to happen anyway? Is that normal just in general for it to just go? Along with these things I've also found my nausea and acid reflux to be much less severe.... But still worried.... Did I really do something wrong, or is it just odd timing of a natural process? Is it normal this far out to be able to do these things? If you're going to be negative and not nice, just don't say anything. I'm not looking for you opinion on pot, either, please. To each their own. I did what I did and if I really messed up then I have to live with that... But maybe I didn't and one of you could have answers for me.

Can't drink protein shakes! Any other options?
BLERDgirl replied to aprilsleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Do you like yogurt? Greek yogurt is pretty high in protein. Have you talked to your nutritionist? She might have some suggestions. You can try pureeing beans or cooked meat and thinning them down with broth. Spinach is also a good protein veg, as well as a good source of iron, and it may help prevent constipation. Add that to your puree. -
@Beni--I hope that's the case! My BMI still says I'm over weight so I think I have a little further to go. I even checked it at 160, and my BMI would be 25, still over weight!? Dang! I'm not going to stress over it though. Honestly, I'd be fine weighing 150, I just didn't want to set myself up for failure if I didn't hit that number. I figured 160 was doable. So I'll just see what happens when I hit 160 and go from there. My Mom figured I was down to 130 by looking at me, and that was when I was at 180! So I guess I look smaller than I weigh. I need to take a new full body picture and put it next to my before picture so I can visualize for myself what I look like. I struggle with Protein too Beni, it's hard a lot of days because I'm just not hungry enough normally to eat more than I am! My typical day for meals is: Breakfast: something with an egg. Whether I make an egg sandwich at home (one slice of 45 calorie bread, 1 small egg, 1 slice cheese) Or I'll get an Egg White Delight sandwich from Mc D's when I'm in a rush! :-) I can't eat the whole thing. Lunch: salad with tuna or ham/turkey along with cheese, nuts, black Beans and a 45 calorie dressing. That's my usual, or on a rush day I'll have a frozen meal. I try not to do that often, but it's convenient for crazy work days. I make sure I choose the lowest carb and sugar ones. Dinner: Some sort of meat and veggie and small bit of carb. (usually some sort of potato) Snacks: I have 1-2 a day. Beef jerkey, greek yogurt, apple & PB, cheese sticks. I average 750-950 calories a day and 40-60g of protein. I'd like the protein to be 60-80 though!

I am a success...that has failed to continue
vincereautmori replied to Roo101769's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
It seems you know this table, intimately. That sounds like junk food junkie paradise. Why not put together your own snack table? Beef jerky, nuts, yogurt, Protein drinks, high protein Cereal mix, cheese, fruit, veggies, etc., etc. All pre measured in snack bags maybe? Grab one when those "bad" snacks are callin' your name. We are surrounded by food whether it sits on a table a few feet away or next to us in the gas station or grocery store, or drug store, or just about any place we go. It is up to us, surgery will help, but the rest is up to us, if we need more help we are supposed to know how to access that help through our surgical teams and support system which includes Bariatric pal. Don't give up, if you made it this far you know you can finish the journey. Good luck! -
2 Tablespoons of Food. Really?
Stephlynn1015 replied to Slimsoon1988's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm told that it is normal. I am about five weeks post-op, and I can't tolerate much, either. I have found that the easiest way to get my protein in is with the protein shakes (of which I am heartily tired) and Greek yogurt (which I don't really like, but it goes down easily and keeps me full.) I use the Premier shakes (30g protein each) and Oikos Triple Zero yogurt (15g protein). Regular food smells wonderful, but two bites and I'm done! -
In the event you think Protein shakes are as disgusting as I do, I have had success mixing the powdered version with almond milk (I don't love regular milk) and greek yogurt with a little PB2. To me it tastes less chalky and you can decide on the consistency. If you freeze the yogurt and half the milk, you can blend everything together and it tastes like a milkshake.

Puree tomorrow! Daily menu ideas please ????
JamieLogical replied to nc512's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never actually pureed any food during my "puree phase". I just ate foods with the proper consistency. I was allowed yogurt, scrambled eggs, and soft cheeses during that same phase. You can get some recipes here: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html I lived of that Baked Ricotta! It was like real food!
