  1. i had a BMI of 35 and i was banded 04/21/08 weighing in at 213 pounds with a height of 5'-4". i was on a 2 week liquid diet and didn't really lose much weight. after my surgery i lost 14 pounds. after my first fill i gained 2 pounds back immediately. i just feel so hungry all the time... worse than i felt before my first fill. so i'm going for fill #2 this weekend. i lost those 2 pounds on top of 4 more so i'm down 19 pounds in approximately 45 days. its still going to be a struggle even though we have low BMI's... maybe even harder. don't get discouraged. you're just entering Bandster Hell when you have the surgery and don't lose much weight. you may not lose much at all until after a couple of fills. stay strong!

5.5 Months And Not Much Lost

And just want to let you know a lady I know who got to goal took a full 17 months. She actually went 10 lbs below her goal but was still within a healthy BMI. It can be done
  3. Wow, such good inspiration! You look great! Keep up the good work! Size 10 is perfect! Best wishes in the New Year.
  4. This year will be reflection on my long journey, I've had many ups and downs, weight loss surgery IS a journey. I will be 9 years post op this year, and this great little tool is still keeping my weight down. I am still happy and healthy, I don't have to take a boat load of supplements, or kill myself exercising, just an hour walk daily on my treadmill or outdoors helps keep my weight down. I started in a size 26, and my lowest size was a 8, I hover around a size 10/12 at 5'7 inches tall now, I don't have to kill myself at this size -- and still eat what I want, I am grateful to be healthy at 9 years post op and most importantly -- still wearing a size 10...
  5. Personally, I was sleeved in MX so I didn't ahve any post op follow up. I had surgery and flew back home less than a week later. My loss was really slow at first, then accelerated, then stopped, then slow, then stopped....I'm just getting off another plateau now. I'm 15 and a half months out, and I think this final 40 lbs is kicking my a**, but I know that slow and steady will win the race. It's easy to get discouraged and to look at the tickers of other who had surgery the same time as you and wish you had their results already, but the most honest and best advice I can give is: Don't compare yourself to anyone else. Compare yourself to you. When was the last time you lost 10 lbs before surgery, how long did it take? Did it take longer and was it more difficult than the current 10 lbs you're lamenting over? The answers are probably yes and yes. Another thing to remember about your loss now, is that, you're not losing weight, you're GETTING RID of it!! That is 10 lbs you will probably never ever ever EVER see again!! How great is that!?! One day at a time, if you do the right things, Protein first, exercise, you WILL see results, you WILL lose the weight, and you WILL look hot and feel great!! Welcome to the losers bench!!

    Regrets?

Nausea will pass. When anyone asks "how was it?" my response is always the same. 'First 2 weeks SUCKED, first 2 months were, eh.' A lot of trying to figure out what works and what doesn't. Now I'm 11 months out. Down 60 lbs. Went from a size 18-20 to an 8-10. Would do it ALL OVER AGAIN! It gets better, I promise
  8. Hi all! I 2as sleeved on 10/27 and right now I'm in phase 2, which is all liquids. I start phase 3 on sunday. That is soft, mushy proteins. Can't wait to get to phase 3, it'll be real food. Right now I'm living on water, hot tea, protein shakes, and high protein hot cocoa. I want to chew something! How is everyone doing on their diets??
  9. You are human & so am I. I am scheduled for 4/23 & I am very nervous!! Could anybody tell me what is the level of soarness (on a scale of 1 to 10). Those of you already banded, were you terribly tender, soar, & in agonizing pain. That is MUCH of what I will be nervous about. We're all in this together. We are going to make it through, especially with the LORD's help.
  10. Hi Headhunter! I attended two different seminars for two different doctors. The first one I almost went with, but as soon as he finished his 30-minute lecture he was out of there! He had about 10 minutes of questions and then he was out of there! He left the rest of the answering of questions up to some other staff. They were talking about all of these things that the insurance did not pay for such as the psych eval, which would have been 250 dollars. Nutritional consult with their nutritionist another 200 dollars, their "own" preop diet 200 dollars, postop diet 150 dollars. All of that the insurance didn't pay for. So, I called my insurance and asked about covering psych evals, nutrition consultations etc, and they told me yes they do. The NUT and the psychiatrist would have to be covered by my insurance, but they would cover it. I didn't like that about that doc. So, I attended another seminar with my doctor I have now. VERY meticulous during the seminar ( although he was a little late due to surgery) but very, very thorough! I asked them up front about the psychiatrist, nutritionist, etc. My insurance covered them all and I only had to pay 10 dollar copay each time. Except for the NUT class and that was 50, but still lots cheaper than the other doc. Also, my doctor has not lost a lap band patient. I don't know about bypass, as I didn't ask that. But, he is very careful and makes sure everything is safe for the patient before doing any surgery. I am on medication now for a peptic ulcer, but I can still have the band placed. He said once I am banded for a few months he wants to do another EGD to check things out down there. He stressed how important it is for me not to indulge in alcohol, NSAIDs, aspirin or even caffeine due to my ulcer situation. He sold me the first time at the seminar and I felt comfortable with my decision. I hope that answered your question If you want to ask me anything else, ask away.

    Anger

Ok, so i am 10 weeks post op and I find that I am easily set off and get angry, I mean really really angry - Is this normal? is this because all of the hormones being released into the body, or could there be something more to it?? Getting rather old actually, and it seems to happen at work and at home.... Thanks in advance for all of your responses.
  13. I am just 2 days before you!!! April 10!
  14. I'm having a problem with drinking the amount of Water that my doctor wants me to drink a day. I'm not drinking with meals or for 1 hour after a meal (as he directed). But 1 hr after the meal, as soon as I start sipping on water, I start to feel hungry. I know that it's probably because I'm washing all of my food through the band, but I don't know how else to get my liquids in! Does anyone else have this problem? Right now, I am getting around it by starting a bottle of water 1 hr before a meal, and telling myself that I have to drink the water and then wait about 10 more minutes before eating. I don't know if this is a good way or not, but it seems like the only way I can get in the fluids without being hungry. I am worried, though, about stretching my pouch by drinking the water so fast. BTW, I am 3 weeks post-op, and just starting on solids.
  15. I really had very little pain, but then my surgeon put in a pain pump that was in for 3 days and I didn't get on an airplane either. I was also up walking the minute I got up to my room -- didn't even lay down just got up and walked the halls. I did sleep in a recliner for about 10 days as laying down was uncomfortable. Different people react differently, to say we're lying would be the same as us saying you are lying about the pain. And for the record, I am male so never had babies and I had not had surgery in the last 48 years (had my tonsils out when I was 4) so no, thats not the difference.
  16. :tongue2: Wow, you are telling my story...I am almost 4 yrs out and have been ~10 lbs from my goal weight for a long time and now I have gained 5 lbs from eating holiday sweets...just a bite at a time, but it adds up for sure. I am making this problem my #1 NY resolution...I've come too far to blow it now. Take each day, and each meal, one at a time...we can do this...I know it. best of luck to us, Joanie )
  17. Thanks Joe for the encouraging words to us all. I have been making progress on writing out my 2 weeks of planned eating for starting on January 1 with a band friendly meal of pork roast and saurkraut which is for luck in the new year. I think the South likes black eyed peas or some other food traditions for New Year's day meal. Getting through the holidays one day at a time. I made a big effort to send all the food home with everyone else so that I don't have stuff left to work on. ie. cheat myself! I got a 15 lb kettle bell and a set of 10 lb dumbell weights to be able to work out more at home. Each came with a DVD on using them so hoping to supplement the cardio type stuff I do at the gym or walking with some weight training too.

    Patiently Waiting

I totally know how you feel... all though I am in the begining phase, I still have to go to orientation and lose 10% of my weight. How long did it take you to get your surgery date?

    No goal weight.

That's a great idea. I haven't set a goal weight but am a numbers person. I think I'll do what you said, going to set goals to break 10 lb increments. Thanks for the great idea. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Hope it works @lizardqueen. I just updated my tracker. Down 94 since 1/12/16.

    No goal weight.

I set a couple short goals at a time. Easier to stay focused and attain them. For instance, by oct 25th I want to have lost 40 lbs total (3 more lbs to reach this one!). By Nov 15 I want to be below 200. (I have 10 lbs to go!) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Robotic gastric sleeve

I had mine on March 18th, 2019. I am doing pretty good so far. The nausea the first day or 2 after surgery was HORRIBLE! It did get better though. Only real problems I am having right now is eating/drinking enough water. I can only tolerate liquids right now and sometimes even that's hard to keep down.
  23. Did anyone else have robotic surgery? Mine was on 3-11-19. If so, how are you doing after having it done.
  24. Hi everyone, nice to meet you all. I am five years post op and now struggling to lose the last 15 pounds of baby weight. Just called my surgeon's office to get back on track. I'm also training to do a 10 mile run in October. I'm trying different things to see if I can restart my weight loss. Anyone else going through the same struggles?
