By the time you're 4-5 months out, 8-10 pounds/month is pretty normal. It's certainly not bad. Remember, your weight loss period is 12-18 months generally.

Bingeing with Bypass
whitedragonruth replied to MissLindseyR's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
First post for me on this great forum and perfect topic for me right now! I had my first consult for a sleeve a week ago and am working on weight loss before my next appointment on 10/5. At first all was well then my beast roared awake and stomping!! I have not lost weight and am eating like a starving fool. Great ideas here—I’m going to start with planning and tracking calories. And walking. It is so crazy, this addiction, and at 67 I am OVER having it run my life, wreck my joints, etc. So there & thanks for great ideas. -
Prayer! If you do not believe in prayer, do not click on this post..
CyclicalLoser replied to The Preacher's topic in The Lounge
To the others in the thread, I do apologize if I am getting off topic here, but I think this is a useful dialog. I didn't include sideeye's response in here so as to not make my reply super long. On that note though, and regarding your second to last point regarding your mother. I think it's important to note that I am not a Catholic, and my understanding is almost entirely what others have told me, with exception to a Catholic wedding I went to. I grew up as a baptist, and now am an evangelical, or non-denominational if you will. I wanted to find a church which preached the Bible "as is" and didn't try to put a spin on it. I haven't found a "perfect" pastor, but the late Dr. J. Vernon McGee literally preached from the start to the end of the Bible instead of "topic based" preaching which is much more common today. Nevertheless, I think many people lump the term "religion" with "faith" and I would argue that they are two different things. People, by nature, tend to be religious. We start with a core idea/belief and then add-on to it ad nauseam. I think cars are great, so I join a car club. But then I get more focused and join a different car club only with xyz car manufacturers. Then I feel somehow lesser because I don't go to cars and coffee... I'm sure you know John 3:16, so I won't repeat it here, other than it promises heaven if you have faith in Jesus Christ. I'm also sure you are familiar with the criminals on the cross next to Jesus on Calvary. One of them, having done nothing good in his life (As far as we know) changes his belief into Jesus and is permitted into heaven. The Bible is full of rules as you noted, and there are people who believe that you must comply with all rules in order to enter heaven. Going by those rules, I am, without a doubt, doomed to hell. I am only a human, I make mistakes all the time, and I'm guilty of breaking the 10 commandments ("Thou shalt not covet" in particular, I love, love, love cars that I simply cannot afford). I think this obsession with rules is what puts genuinely-interested people off, and what leads genuine faith-based Christians into a OCD-like ritual instead of maintaining a relationship with their Savior. My belief is that you don't earn your way into Heaven, you simply must have real faith about Jesus. So I suppose it would apply to the "Personal loyalty test". I think that my belief (And the Bible, at least if read as written) puts people off even more. How could a "good" person go to hell and a "bad" person who accepts Jesus as their personal savior at the last minute enter into heaven? There are many possible explanations ranging from "Hey it's the rules, like it or leave it" to "What standard is good, what is the measuring stick based on since different regions/cultures define 'good' differently?" I will refrain on the subject not because I don't think it is interesting, but I'm trying to keep the focus on answering the questions that brought you into this thread, and that topic could be dissected for years. I do ask you to keep this in mind, these are my beliefs and thoughts, and I'm positive that not all of the Christians in here shares my opinions, so I would not take my word as fact. I think the offer to pray for people in a non-lounge forum should be okay, so long that it is exactly that, and I think you might agree we both have taken it out of the original intent. I suppose the title should have been different, such as "If you want me to pray for you, please post inside" but I think the OP was actually trying not to offend people by warning them. As far as any attacking on either side though, that shouldn't be in this thread either, as the original intent was just to pray for people. Again, my apologies to everyone else who just came in here for prayer and not to get involved in religious rhetoric. I didn't want sideeye, nor any other atheists who did view the thread to think that we all fit into the same mold -
Running/Racing & Training...what to expect?
AEdoesRnY replied to AEdoesRnY's topic in Fitness & Exercise
As I reflect further, 15K seems awfully ambitious right out of the gate. For now I'm signing up for a Halloween-themed 5K that takes place on 10/27/2018. I feel like that gives me time to do C25K (or at least some of it) and 'dip my toe in the water' in terms of racing! -

@sleevedllama I saw my nutritionist this morning. Unfortunately I didn't really get any new magical advice. Just other protein shake brand options and suggestion to mix with milk to reduce the sweetness. I asked about the protein shots I've seen advertised (e.g. BariatricPal 15g protein shot). She was indifferent to it. Said I could try but in my case I've found that my stomach is pretty sensitive to certain things (e.g. biggest learning was that my stomach thinks sucralose is the devil lol) that we're not sure if I'll be able to tolerate these protein shots. But I think I'm going to try one just to see. I've only been eating 3, maybe 4, meals per day. She wants me to get 5 per day. Although, again, even 5 per day at average 5 g each only puts me at 25. Even 7 g only gets me to 30. I'm going to try to add the Unjury unflavored protein powder to as many meals as possible to help boost the number. Beyond that it seems I really need to find a way to get the rest in liquid form. Plus I'm not getting in enough liquids anyway so that would kill 2 birds with 1 stone. I had surgery on 8/15. Lost 10 lbs first week primary because of horrible bathroom issues and dehydration. In the last 9 days since then I've only lost 1 lb. Nutritionist says it's because I'm not getting in enough protein to burn the fat. Makes sense. But what a challenge.

I am curious to know what vitamins and supplements everyone is taking. I'm currently taking: Bariatric Advantage Ultra Multivitamin w. Iron (3 pills per day and I take them all at the same time) Celebrate Calcium PLUS 500 Chewable 1 tablet 3 times daily Natrol Biotin 5000mcg 1xdaily I will be adding Nature's Bounty Probiotic 10 as soon as I finish my antibiotics. I need to add a B complex (I think) and for sure B12. I saw somewhere not to start B12 until month 3. Has anyone else heard this? I also need to add 500-700 mg daily of Omega 3 Fatty Acids. I'm not sure which one to get there are so many different choices.

Intermittent Fasting
Matt Z replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm going to start doing a slightly modified 8-6 format IF (you eat between 8am and 6pm) so it's a 14:10 fast/food ratio, starting this coming Monday. The modification is going to be the coffee I drink at 5ish every morning on work days. But all "food" will be consumed within the times allotted. -
Been awhile since I've come and posted anything, but realized I should share that on July 21st I ran my very first half marathon! And did it even faster than I was hoping!! 2:53:50 for 13.1 miles
The following week, I had a follow up appointment with my surgeon and I got a pic of me and Dr. Wallace while wearing my finisher medal. He was super excited! Now I'm featured on their website and Facebook page, and I even raised my hand to come in and speak to prospective patients at his info sessions about my experience. Right now I'm at 173.2, down from a HW of 300. First goal is to hit 160lbs, then I think my final weight goal will be somewhere around 140lbs. Excited for my next running challenge at the Disney Princess Half Marathon this upcoming February. I'll be doing the Fairytale Challenge - run a 10k on day one, then run a half marathon on day 2. Who knows, maybe I'll plan to do my first full marathon in late 2019!

That is amazing! Being able to run races like 5Ks, 10Ks, and even one day half marathons is a MAJOR goal of mine. Thanks for the inspiration!

Protein shakes for picky protein drinkers
sleevedllama replied to branlee90's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Isagenix Chocolate -- hands down the best protein shake I've ever had and it has 24g. It's not gritty when shaken in a blender ball bottle, but I actually prefer it blended with 8-10 ice cubes and 8-10 oz. water. The less water you use the more it blends up in the same consistency as a Wendy's frosty. Soy & gluten free. I don't sell it but I love them. -
Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
Hop_Scotch replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are going to the gym 10 times a week and eating less than 500 calories a day, I would say you'd need to be eating more. I know that sound counterintuitive but you aren't eating enough for your activity levels..you will be surprised how your body will react when you give a little more sustenance. -

I've read about people having food rejection, bad taste buds and nausea and thankfully I haven't experienced it. Tomorrow will be my one month surgiversary and I'm 27 lbs down since surgery and 52 lbs total lost since first appt with surgeon. I feel like I'm not losing like I should and keep telling myself not to compare, but I can't help but wonder if my sleeve isn't small enough. I did, however, find myself ill the other day because I ate a small sweet potato too fast. Bad habit from eating lunch at my desk. I'm 53 and determined to be 150lbs on my 5'8 frame by my 54th birthday Oct 2019 ....I just need to slow down my anxiousness and let the process work. Only 110 to go... I’m 41, and afraid to tell my mom I’m having bariatric surgery. She won’t understand, and she’ll be unpleasant about it. She’s always been tiny, thinks being overweight is just a lack of willpower, that fat people are just weak. But I’m so tired of fighting by myself. She put me on my first diet when I was 10. For the better part of 30 years, it’s been one diet after another. I know it’s not just willpower, and I know that even for the willpower part of the equation, I’m not magically going to turn into someone I’ve never been. I had the idea that I just wouldn’t say anything, but having a better understanding of the changes ahead, that’s not going to be an option. So I know I have to tell her, and I’m dreading it.

How many calories per day??
Screwballski replied to susunorm's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I rarely go over 800. I am compliant, healthy and had my 3 month post op review with surgeon yesterday. He’s very pleased. Even though I’m at goal, my surgeon told me not to force calories/food. If I slip 10-20 pounds under goal before my new stomach can naturally hold more, everything will be fine. If you are meeting protein, water and supplement requirements, if you are healthy, you are likely just fine. If I were to eat 1200, 1300, 1400 calories per day, I would def gain on the reg! No question. -
Thanks for the encouragement! Even with just being on puréed I’ve been dealing with stalling for sure and I’ve been worrying that it didn’t work for me, that my doc didn’t make my pouch small or didn’t bypass enough intestine...I’m hoping that by 5 weeks post op on Monday maybe I’ll be over the hump...still hovering around 19-20ish pounds...

Gastric bypass patients 5+ years
KimTriesRNY replied to E.S's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
This is something I would not worry about it right now. It’s self defeating so close out from surgery. There is a tendency to regain 10-15% for the average person from their lowest weight. So say for instance you lost weighed 275 pounds before surgery. Then after surgery, you lost weight to 150 pounds, for a loss of 125 pounds. Then you gained weight of ten percent...12-13 pounds. Now you weigh 162-163 pounds. In the grand scheme of things you are so much healthier having lost so much weight, those few pounds are inconsequential. Most of the people you see that have huge amounts of regain, say 40, 50, 100 pounds, are those that have gone back to unhealthy eating habits. They are snacking on junk, drinking soda, eating fast food. They perhaps did not address issues they had with food before surgery or during their main weight loss phase, so were unable to maintain their weight loss or maybe even make goal. Why you would worry about this now and allow it to give you a “defeating” feeling eludes me. Large amounts of regain do not have to be a self fulfilling prophecy. People that eat healthy, exercise, and stick to their programs are maintaining the majority of their weight lost. -
any sleevers in their late 50's
willowfinely replied to tahoegirl96118's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
WoW. So happy a 50+ post came up! I'm 59 and surgery scheduled 10/11/18. Love reading about all of you hero ladies doing so well. Gives me strength to get through this. Thank you!! -
My surgery was July 10th. I am in San Diego. I have already hit he infamous 3 to 4 week stall. I started down the next slope. I am averaging about 4 to 6 ounce loss a day. Sound like not much but when the numbers keep dropping it makes a big difference. I have not done a before and after shot yet. I guess I am just waiting to see if I can see it in the mirror. People say I am the shrinking lady at work. But I am still wearing my same clothes as before the surgery. I am too afraid to go try on pants. Maybe in another 3 weeks. I am 7 weeks post op that will make it 10. It's great to read all your stories.

today Is my 7 days since surgery! Whoo. Yesterday I took a turn, for some reason yesterday i had the bottomless pit of liquid diet. no sipping involved. i seemed to have been able to drink normal ( pre surgery) I drank 22 oz of water in less than an hour. Couldn't get enough of water. drank protein shake no problem. broth. no problem. This morning ate greek yogurt, the whole container in 10 mins. normal bites. It's kinda freaking me out. why do you think this is? Oh and I don't feel full. I see my doctor later today and of course I will ask but kinda want know whats going on

Sleeved in Feb 2014! (ER Visit last night)
branlee90 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey guys! Question? I had the sleeve done back in February 2014 with complications (leak, sepsis and hospitalised for 10 days.) ever since when I have bowl movements it’s mainly diarrhoea but not every time, I’ve always felt weak, sleepy and no energy just thought i was lazy lol. I eat healthy, exercise and I work 40+ hours for an EP. I ended up going to the ER last night due to chest pains and PVC’s they did some blood work and tests which came back saying I have iron deficiency anemia, dyspnea and hypokalemia. Has anyone here had this happen? I am currently at 175lbs and holding steady! Started at 260. but super happy size wise! -
I had my gastric bypass surgery a little over 2 years now. I lost 85 lbs, the just stopped losing. I was ok with that, of course I want to still lose more. I maintained that weight for a year and a half, almost. In the last 2 months, I have gained 10 to 15 lbs. Its killing me, I feel terrible. My weakness is sweets. Can't seem to get enough of them. Does anyone have any alternatives, or recipes for cookies, cakes, any kind of sweets? Or what are some good healthy recipes for snacks? Would love any kind of help.
