    Just had 1st fill...

It's hard to give advice because all doctors give different instructions for after a fill. My doctor has us go on clear liquids for three days after a fill because you can swell and it puts you at higher risk for band slippage if you eat regular food when swollen. I notice when I start to eat solids again after a fill I have more restriction than I have three or four days later - I guess due to the swelling. You need to be careful for a few days, you don't want to damage anything. You will probably be able to eat much more in a few days, after your first fill you don't usually have too much restriction. Just eat what you can handle and start with liquids, then move on to soft foods. (the oatmeal is probably a good choice but try to eat protein.) Have some cottage cheese or refried beans. Then move on to chicken.
  2. I was just wondering how everyone in the U.S. did on Turkey day. It is such a big day for feasts and is a trying time for some of us bandsters. Do you have any funny stories? Were you able to stay on the bandster plan? Did you have any slip-ups? I did pretty good for primary meals, lots of turkey and veggies which are on my plan. I had a tablespoon of macaroni and cheese which was yummy but I don't usually eat (I also know that more than 1 tablespoon might make me sick). In the evening I went off plan a bit. I had a cup of eggnog which had about 300 calories. I also had a small square of pumpkin cake (my favorite dessert in the world that I eat once a year) with some whipped topping. All in all, I probably indulged in an extra 800 calories or so, but I don't feel guilty because I enjoyed myself with family, worked out 2 extra times this week and I am back on plan today. (I also have the excuse that the baby made me do it since I am expecting, lol) I hope everyone enjoyed themselves over the holiday!!!

    Urgent Help Needed For Friend

I was fine while in hospital for the overnight stay, later in the day after released at home started to have a low grade fever. This fever got to 101 and ranged from 99-101 for about 5 days post-op. The first day I had the fever I called doctor immediately and he phoned in a perscription of Augmentin which is a very good antibiotic for those hard to kill infections normally seen in a hospital. I am totally fine now with no problems what so ever. I am now 3 weeks post-op and have lost 31 pounds and back to work and working out. Hope all works out, but the main thing is to get out of bed and start walking around as soon as possible and make sure that you did the breathing execises to clear the lungs out, that can be a cause of low grade fevers as well.

    Stretching out the Pouch

I had stretched my pouch out last year. I didn't feel anything different and I still had the same restriction. I didn't overeat either. I have no idea how it happened. I only found out about it because I had to have gall bladder surgery and went in to have all the fill removed so I would be comfortable taking pain meds while recovering. After removing all the fill and giving it about a two month rest I went in to have my fill. She put as much in as she took out the prior two months and I haven't had a problem since. I do, every once in a while, have a little more difficulty eating and more "stuck" days but that is usually due to being under a lot of stress. I have been having those issues for the past 3 weeks but things are starting to calm back down and so is my band. It's an amazing tool and seems to have a mind of its own at times! LOL.

    Just had 1st fill...

I had my lap-band procedure on 11/20/07 w/ an 11cc band. I had my 1st fill today 6cc's. The fill was super fast & didn't hurt a bit :whoo:(just in case anyone else is as nervous about fills as I was)! My question is that I constantly have the feeling as if I need to burp, but I can't. Has anyone experienced this? This is similar to how I felt for the first couple weeks post-op also. I'm able to drink no problem, but I'm afraid to eat much. I had a 1/2 bag of weight smart oatmeal for lunch which made me feel full, and I'm holding it down no problem. I'd like to hear advice on eating just after a fill.
  6. I am totally unfilled---was unfilled back in April for my TT, and have never filled since, and managed to maintain. That being said....I ate like I was totally unfilled too!!! LOL But Friday I was back to considering what I was eating, and how much. Trying to stick to the turkey left overs, and avoid the starchy carb left overs! I think I just began grazing as I prepared, and continued grazing through the day. Now I did think about it, and when I was tempted to sneak into the dessert type snack foods that were around, I chose to go with celery and cheese. But I did not deny myself anything I truly wanted. I have not been on the scale, plan on giving myself a week to watch the food and work out a bit more....and then see what it looks like! This is how I hope to live the rest of my life. Indulge, on occasion ---as most people do, just avoid the over indulging on a daily make that hourly basis! Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday! Kat

    Filled To The Max??

Hoodia tricks your brain in to thinking you're full. It works very well. I don't know about the other brands they have but I buy mine at GNC its called Hoodia super thin. I take it 30 minutes before I eat. It takes about a week to work but it works great. I take it before breakfast and lunch and half the time I dont even want dinner.
  8. I had a revelation today about why it's so hard for me to drink more than even a minimal amount of water. It all comes down to which is more pleasurable. The band rules from my doctor (I think they're pretty universal) say no water/liquids one-half hour before eating and no water/liquids one hour after eating. Since I eat either a meal or a snack just about every three hours, it feels like there's never any time to drink water (actually, I just figured it out on paper and in any given day there's at least 5 hours "available" for drinking water). So...given the choice between eating or drinking, I pick eating--of course! Instead of thinking "I can't drink because I'm going to be eating," I need to change my thinking to "I can't eat because I'm going to be drinking." Just thought I'd pass along that ah-ha for me.

    Feeling Down

Melissa, do not let the numbers on the scale discourage you. I too have been stuck and I know I have been doing great with me eating and exercise. I know I have lost inches regardless of what the scale says. Sometimes our bodies just need a break, when I stop and think about it, my body has lost weight every week for 10 months...thats a long time , the scale is just taking a vacation right now and Iam ok with it....the last few lbs are always the hardest to lose..you will get there, remember this is a journey not a race. You have been successful so far and Iam sure you will continue to be, your body is probably just taking a time out right now too .What you are feeling, just know you are not alone we have all benn there or in my case Im right there with you

    Feeling Down

Please forgive me beforehand as I have had a terrible week at work, a terrible week at home and it just happens to be that time of the month so my motivation and positive thinking skills are greatly lacking. OK, I know that 2-3 pounds a week is the average weight loss for lapband and that it is a tool and so on and so forth but don't you just feel discouraged sometimes? I am not saying that I regret having had this procedure versus the bypass but I have an acquaintance who just had the bypass the first week of January and she has lost more weight in the last 7 weeks than I have since my surgery in October. I really have nothing to complain about. I have greatly enjoyed buying some new clothes and discovering that not only do I not need to wear my size 32 stretchy pants and big tunic sweaters but that I am slowly enjoying showing off the goods every now and then in a low cut wrap shirt 3 sizes smaller than I was wearing. It's great to be "forced" to go out and buy some size 26 pants because my old ones are dragging at my feet and I'm afraid that one of these days, I'm going to get up from my desk chair and my pants aren't going to follow! I guess my problem right now is that since my last fill, I really haven't been able to eat anything without PBing or just feeling uncomfortable. Now I know the PBing is not good and I have an appt with my Dr. next week to address this but for all my suffering and lack of food, I haven't lost any more weight on average than I did before the fill. My other problem is the big 3-0-0. Ever since I hit that number after I had my baby, I've been downhill ever since. I think I just gave up, decided that I was not just "grossly obese" as one doctor told me but now I was morbidly obese. I mean, what more can be said to depress a person? But now I'm within an arms length of that number and yet it feels a million miles away. I feel as though it has taken me a million years to lose the last 15# when it only took a minute to lose the first 35. Because I'm still stuck here on the wrong side of that number, I feel like I'll be stuck here forever and it almost invalidates everything I've done otherwise. I know this sounds self indulgent and pathetic but I cannot tell you how really very depressed I am and I begin to feel like it's never going to happen to me and I'll be stuck in this 300 pound nightmare forever. Is there anyone else out there that has had these phases of ridiculous doubt?

I'm doing great down 32 and been working out hard since week two. I eat mostly chicken or tuna. I have started eating small amounts of salads too. I try different things though I can't eat much of anything and that's wonderful. Enjoying the journey for sure.

    Embarrassed and Worried...

@@B-52 usual slip symptoms are a tightening of the band which can happen quite quickly (unlike the tightening caused by a build up of scar tissue which tends to be gradual). It can either be over a few weeks or dramatically quickly. Tightness can vary from increased reflux through to literally being unable to swallow even one's own saliva. It is almost always accompanied by pain, ranging from discomfort to awful!
  14. I gained 19 pounds on the day of surgery. My surgeon laughed and told me to go home and pee it out. It was gone after a week.
  15. Just wondering what kind of Protein shakes everyone is using, and what you're "eating" on the pre-op liquid diet. I start my 2-week pre op liquid fast in one week. I got some "Muscle Milk light" protein powder, some Proti-Diet soups, sugar free pudding and Jello. Any others I should be thinking of? Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Surgery Tomorrow

I am so excited for you to be banded and experience life on the other side of this. This is a wonderful new beginning! I know with your strength and positive attitude you will succeed. I was a complete mess the week leading up to my surgery. The night before I barely slept... I was in shock and still could not believe I was going to do it. It didn't hit me until I was in the prep area of the hospital, undressing and putting on my hospital gown and socks. I immediately prayed and an inner calm came over me. I saw a good quote the other day: "Let your faith be bigger than your fears." There will be challenges but its nothing you can't endure with God's help.

Less restriction 3 weeks after fill

Hello, I am assuming you are a new bandster. This is why docs schedule fills every 4-6 weeks *on average) because it gives you enough time to 1) reduce inflammation, 2) adapt to the new restriction and 3) test the band to see if another fill is required. This is what is supposed to happen until you reach green. So keep going for your fills Once you get to green the restriction is longer lasting. I had my last fill in May and that was 3 years after my fill before that. Also recognize that as you get closer to green your doc will give you smaller volume fills as to not overshoot the green zone and avoid overfilling you. These smaller volumes <MAY> lend to feeling less restricted sooner. Again, just keep your appointments every 4-6 weeks as doc orders until you feel you are at that perfect spot

    Bandster Boost

I met a small group of women for coffee and "Bandster Boost" session this afternoon. They were all recently banded. Four of the ladies met two of women from one of my coffee groups at a recent gathering of bandsters and they contacted me. Two ladies told the other ladies about my egg timer trick... they wanted more information and then we connected by phone and agreed to meet. The ladies wanted to pick my brain on how I have done on my lapband journey. Together as a group we laid the out their goals of what they wanted to get from their lapband journey. We set out a plan... and short-term goals EVERYONE agreed to TRY the follow for 1 week... - plan your meals for 1 week ONLY - try at least one new recipe every week (for those of you that know me I have a HUGE library of bandster friendly recipes that I have collected since being banded) - write down EVERYTHING you eat - listen to you body and your clinic - MAKE SURE you take tiny bites of food and swallow each bite before you take your next bite - only weigh and measure yourself ONCE a week - take time 15 minutes a day for yourself... walk.. or do simple exercises We have exchanged contact information and will be staying in touch. I was telling the group about my Bandster network of friends... not only the ones I meet at the coffee groups but also the many individuals that I speak with on the phone on a monthly basis. Let's face it the lapband journey is not easy... and who can afford to throw away the cost of the procedure. As many longtime bandsters will tell you... you must work with the band and use it as a tool. If you go into this journey with a positive attitude and take it one day at a time and seek support from fellow bandsters YOU WILL HAVE SUCCESS. For any bandsters that have fallen off the "band-wagon"... wether you have just been banded or banded a long time... it's NEVER too late to jump back on and ask for help. I was feeling down about only loosing 4# in dec challenge with the sept bandsters. However- Lets look at the positive: I did not gain over christmas, never have I lost between Oct and Dec ever! I am going to have a fill next week. I have mixed emotions since I either do 100% fine or get stuck in the first 4 bites, slime and occassionally PB. I am going to only request .2-.3cc and then buckle down on my intake and increase my exercise.

    Very erratic restriction?

I posted a very similar thread last night, because I have noticed the same thing ! At first I was very tight then gradually I loosened and now all of a sudden ( 5 weeks after my fill) I am extremely tight again . There are two things that I could possibly attribute it to, the first is that I have been very irregular for the past few days and I wonder if constipation could make me feel more restricted However, even after that's passed I still feel very restricted and uncomfortable and I think that there might be a correlation between my restriction and menstrual cycle.

    so happy

Well i am trying to figure out this new set up , it has been a while since i have been on this sight.. I am doing well my weight is not coming off as quick now. I have lost about 45 lbs total. But it is my size i am loving i tried on my first pair of 12 and i can button them yippeee. Although there is still a little muffin top when i do but i cant believe i fit into a 12.not to bad coming from a size 20. I still have to think healthy and eat healthy, i wont say i dont cheat here and there with a cookie or piece of cake but i try not to do that alot. I have joined a gym and have started last week. I had some health issues and was unable to excersize or even do walking distances so i am happy even for the small amount of excersize i can do. I have given away so many bags and bags of clothes that were to big for me that felt wonderful! I do wish i knew how to add pics on here before and after i am amazed at myself when i look at them. Actually i printed them and have them hanging on my wall at work to remind me of what i was. Still not smoking not even a puff that alone makes me feel great so glad i dont smoke anymore and if the band was my motivation for quiting so be it. I do wish everyone the best of luck patience and a wonderful journey i do believe this is a wonderful thing.

    Getting scared

I was scared too. Almost backed out three times before getting to the surgery center and once while I was on the gurney getting wheeled into surgery. Fortunately, the anesthesia kicked in and its been one week today. The fear and anxiety were worse than the actual procedure trust me. I felt better afterwards than some times when I've been to the oral surgeon for a tooth extraction. The team of people that will be there for you pre and post op will put you at ease as well. Scarier for me now would be if I hadn't gone through with it and being faced with dealing with the anguish of the weight problem and no incentive to try to defeat it on my own again....and fail.....again. This tool called the Lap-Band kicks ass! It will help you fight off the fat and start living the life you must have wanted or you wouldn't have registered for the procedure. Imagine being full....I mean really really full after a few glugs of Soup and pushing the rest of it away. And when you finally weigh in after a week and see that you've knocked off 10 pounds or more, come back to this message board and tell me if I wasn't right. Be more afraid NOT to do it!
