It always seems to be my evening meal that I don't want. I would and could easily swop it for a high protein yogurt but it seems so wrong ... Is that a legacy from my other 100lbs + life ? I think I have just answered my own question, A thin person would eat a yogurt for a meal.

Well I rec'd my lap band in 2006. I have had fills and unfills trying to find that sweet spot or fullness filling and still struggling til this day! I may be that person that may never experience either one... I had an unfill 12/31/09 because I started boot camp on 1/1/10 and was not eating enough for energy. I believe my body was in that survival mode too. I did well for about 4 weeks and then I kind of ate more and more unhealthy foods untill I gained 18 lbs. Decided to go for a fill on April 13, 2010 and now I am having a hard time eating again. Eating is now a challege for me. I have tried to eat oatmeal, yogurt, eggs, etc. but breakfast will not go down at all. I drink 2 cups of coffee from 5:30 am till 10:30 am. Most the time I have to eat lunch at the office and then it may not go down either or it may take me from about 1pm to 3pm to finish lunch. Dinner time is usually an easier meal but I eat late due to my son's baseball activities (next bootball, then basketball) and by that time I am so hungry and may not make the best choices. If dinner doesn't go well, forwhatever reason I can eat ice cream. Not a good habit to fall into at ALL! But seems to be a common thing with lap band patients. Then it is bedtime. I have lost 5 lbs but maybe could loose more if I could choose and limit my dinner meals and go back to boot camp. I AM starting on my new plan today. With the Lapband Talk and God's help I will succeed!! : ) Everyone's support is very much welcomed and appreciated and hopefully I can inspire others in my future!

When Did You Get Use To Liquids?
MsQuel30 replied to Kiki Von Moonshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on day 4 and I've had straight liquids, my Dr says no jello or yogurt until day 21. Although it may be different for some but that's what he suggested. -
Bob- I am so glad to hear from you! I'm glad you're doing well-I knew you would! I didn't sleep in the hospital either and the care left a lot to be desired-they really didbn't know what to do with me but I got home and got a shower (which was WONDERFUL) and slept like a baby. I've been on protein drinks, lots of water, had some chicken broth last night and some jello. I even tried some yogurt and did great with that. I've been making the effort to get all my protein in. I'm really not too sore except where the port is but the doc told me that would be more sore than anything. So, that's it in a nutshell my friend. I'm glad you wrote and I'm glad you're doing well. Keep in touch and hang in there! I'll talk to you soon. Lisa

What are you eating?
Unforgettable replied to nenebanded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've mentioned this in a lot of my threads, but greek yogurt is awesome. I tried it for the first time after reading it from someone else on here. By itself, it is a great sour cream substitute. Otherwise it kinda blends in with whatever flavors you put in it. Or you can do just plain splenda mixed in with it. My fav right now is 1/2 cup yogurt and 1 tbsp reduced fat peanut butter, it's so yummy and there's a lot of protein in the yogurt. Just make sure to get the reduced fat yogurt. I like the Fage total 0% plain yogurt. -
I'm on solids and not quite tolerating the food all that well either. I feel sick and just want to vomit. My cousin joked around and called me bulimic but it kind of struck me that what if that is the road I'm going down? Hopefully not. I think I should go back to yogurt / Jello as well, but my surgeon said he wants me to eat "regular" foods now. I hope you heal quickly <3

My first mashed potatoes were awesome! Our diets sound pretty much the same with the cream soup and yogurt. I added avocados because they were just as awesome as the potatoes. You can also eat baby food. Also so you don't eat too fast put your fork down for a least a minute before you take another bite. Good luck moving forward!

What's your opinion of Low Fat?
JamieLogical replied to Swampdoggie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Another example. I eat Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt. If I compare their Key Lime to Oikos Traditional full-fat Key Lime flavor, the Dannon Light & Fit has: 80 less calories (exactly half as much as the Oikos) 4.5 grams less fat (including 3 grams less saturated fats) 20 mg less sodium 5 mg more potassium 9 grams less carbs (exactly half as much as the Oikos) 10 grams less sugar (LESS than half as much as the Oikos) 1 gram more Protein So, again tell me how the low fat option is the wrong one in this case? Edit: I checked the ingredients and the Dannon Light & Fit does have sucralose listed, so if you are opposed to artificial sweeteners, then that might be a knock against it. However, the Oikos has "sugar" listed as an actual ingredient and much higher on the list than sucralose is for the Dannon. -
feel no different and Soooo hungry
Woodstock girl replied to vjosie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 12/29 and I'm going through the same thing. It must have something to do with the liquids going right through us. It's only temporary and I look forward to the day when I can start eating solids. I've been putting a bit of greek yogurt in my soup for extra protein - it seems to help a little. Or try some plain greek yogurt with some banana protein powder - tasty, and greek yogurt has twice as much protein as regular yogurt. I hope it gets better for you. -
A Lighter Me Dr. A. Lopez?
cerenatee replied to Kristen125's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I've read a ton of reviews for A Lighter Me, just do a search with A Lighter Me in quotes, and I've only found one negative review. The girl said she loved Dr. Lopez but she got freaked out when she was in the hotel and woke up to heavy drainage from her wound. She didn't call the medical coordinator, Eduardo, who makes sure to give you his number and tells you to call him if you need anything at any time. Instead she called the driver, Abraham, who told her what she was experiencing was normal, and her US coordinator, who called her back after an hour. She was not happy. Even the owner of ALM got in touch with her. Since I've never had a US doctor call me back within an hour, this has not discouraged me in the least. She ended up going to a Walmart for bandages and having yogurt afterwards, so no, she wasn't dying. Dr. Lopez stays at the Marriott when he's in town so that he's close to his patients and when he saw her that night, he said she was fine and removed her drain. As for a 2nd negative review, I haven't found one. Here's a list of several of the reviews I've found so far - http://www.verticals..._"a lighter me" http://www.verticals...12/#entry622274 http://www.verticals..._"a lighter me" http://www.verticals...ep/#entry737945 Here's the negative one: http://www.verticals..._"a lighter me" I know everything freaked me out when I first started researching so don't let this freak you out. Dr. Lopez has consistently been given high praise, he's a member of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery, he's written several weight loss articles, and he trains other surgeons to perform bariatric surgeries. -
9 Days Post Op still have pain?
fancy4life replied to JosieJ's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I got sleeved 5/12 and still feel slight pain but definitely depends on how much I'm doing. Last two days have definitely gotten better. I had to go back to work this past Monday , I felt exhausted. I eat every 2 hours ex ½ egg, light and fit yogurt, sip on my Protein shake and the last 2 days were good , my wounds are finally closed and the bruising went away. It takes time and every day I notice I'm dropping inches. Follow your gut listen to your body and walk walk walk. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I am not perfect and I don't follow an all protein low carb diet. I get in my protein in and water most days but I do eat junk in moderation. Sometimes more than I should. I keep my calories low but I pretty much eat normally. I feel weird on this site sometimes because everyone is super-healthy. Example is today's consumption breakfast, muller Greek yogurt, snack honey nut Cheerios, lunch was salad w/chicken breast, oil and vinaigrette and a chocolate chip cookie, dinner tillapia and broccoli. Snack premier protein shake and if I want fruit before I go to bed and maybe some nuts. If I want some junk I'll have it. I just watch my calories and try to make mostly decent choices. Oh if I am really low on calories I 'll have graham crackers and peanut butter. Yum.

Pre-op Diet! successes? struggles?
missheidi47 replied to Katie Bartholomew's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I've been following my pre-op diet for 6 days. I have 3 - 4 protein shakes a day, non-starchy veggies, low-fat cream soup, and plain yogurt (I usually mix protein powder with plain Greek yogurt for my last protein shake). I can have sf popsicles and jello. And 4 - 6 ounces of lean chicken or fish once each week. My calories have been between 1000 - 1200 every day, carbs less than 75g (have to be less than 100g), and protein at least 80g. The NUT said the one to really watch was the carbs, so I have. I was doing okay, but for the last 2 days I am so tired and achy. I know I'm not getting sick, because I have no other symptoms. Anyone else experience something similar? I'm drinking my water, and planning to email the NUT, but probably won't hear anything until Monday. Thanks! -
I eat pretty normally... just smaller portions, except that I have absolutely no desire for carbs-rice/potateos/bread/corn/sweets. Which I used to survive on! I'm still amazed at that. I normally eat like this (but try to vary it some from day to day): Water, meds B/F - 1 scrambled or boiled egg sometimes with a bit of ham or chicken and about 1/2 cup of fresh fruit or sugar free yogurt. If I'm running late I have a Protein shake or bar. Then I take my Vitamins on a full stomach. WATER lunch - 2 or 3 oz of turkey, chicken or tuna, 1/2 cup veggies ... maybe a whole-grain cracker or 2, but not very often WATER Snack - a bit of meat or cheese, or maybe half a Protein Bar, or some whole-grain cereal with milk WATER Supper - 2 or 3 oz of beef or turkey, 1/2 cup veggies (different from the ones I had at lunch), fruit or yogurt... very occasionally I might have a Tablespoon or 2 of rice or Pasta - but that's rare. WATER, meds I really don't watch my fat intake - I find that if I cut it too low my skin gets super dry & itchy and my hair looks dull & lifeless. But, as you can see, I don't get a lot of fat from the foods I eat anyway. I do count calories - though not strictly.. I just keep a running total in my head so I don't go over 1800. When I first started eating solids I wrote everything down religiously and I will probably do that again if I feel myself loosing control. I don't exercise as much as I probably should, but we live on a small farm and I get a daily workout that way. Along with 3x a week at Curves. I'm 11 1/2 weeks post op and haven't had a fill yet so I'm hardly an expert, but thought I'd share since you asked.

I need some breakfast ideas before work that don't include eggs, yogurt or protein drinks. Any ideas?

The difference is just physician preference. Most people need in the 50-70 gm range, so they are both correct. It is hard to get it in when you are still not on regular diet yet. My doctor told me it was the goal, but knew that most people could not accomplish daily. Greek yogurt was a God send in my mushie stage. It has from 12-14 gms depending on the brand. Egg salad was great. I did little cups of the Ricotta bake (which was my all time favorite - a little ricotta with garlic and salt, a spoon of spagetti sauce and a little mozzerella then nuke for a min has like 20 grams or so depending on how much you can tolerate).

When did you start eating fruits? (Carbs content)
DaisyAndSunshine posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
So, my program has me on fruits and veggies and even grain if one can tolerate right from month 2. I don't do much grain (may be once a week) since I don't like eating it much. Though based on our outlined eating schedule, we should take 3 to 4 servings of fruits (depending how we tolerate ofc). I don't have any issue with tolerating any ofthe fruits (I don't dump). But ofc if I do that my carbs shoot quite high especially cuz I am vegetarian and I get my protein mostly from dairy (yogurt, milk, cottage cheese and other cheese), which again has significant carbs. My average net carbs are between 60 to 70 grams. Anyhow, so I was wondering how did y'all carry your carbs during the weight loss phase? And when did you introduce fruits and veggies in your diet? -
sleeved on May 11th-issues with protein
pnw218 replied to Mommydog14's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As soon as I over the initial surgery, I was ready for something more substantial. I had yogurt on the flight home - 3 days post op. I didn't go crazy but did move to thicker foods the first week. For me, I needed more than Clear Liquids to feel better. I did the premade shakes (Atkins, Nutrilite, Premier), cottage cheese, potato soup, mashed potatoes. I tried a couple of protein powders and thot they were horrid. I tried mixing them into my hot farina Cereal in the morning. Not great, even with baby fruit added in for taste. A nurse who had surgery at the same time, wrote to me that the drs she worked with said anything mushy and tolerated was ok. I did stay away from crunchy, seeds, etc. Have you seen this link yet? http://www.cornellweightlosssurgery.org/pdf/dietary_guidelines_sleeve_gastrectomy.pdf It is a difficult adjustment; the entire experience has been harder for me mentally than physically. I crave Wendy's tho, not McD's! lol It will get easier -

3 weeks out is it normal to have 8 oz of food
Chelly replied to belllopez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is way to early for you to be eating like this and you could be doing damage to your unhealed pouch. I'm 13 months out and I rarely eat that much and if I do it's yogurt never meats. You better talk to your nutritionist fast and have them go over your plan with you again because I don't think you understand what you should be doing properly. Your surgeon even might want to check you to see if you have done any damage. Watch what you are doing from now on and make a new start. -
Hi!! Sorry I'm not a teacher but I do have an idea . . . why don't you pack a protein shake . . . you know one that is already mixed! I love the premium protein shakes you can get them from Walmart or Sam's. If you don't want to drink your lunch you can also try your favorite lunch meat with cheese wrapped in it, you know like a little meat taco this way you can walk around eating it when you have lunch duty and will get in your protein and you will be full until you get another break and then you can get you some yogurt of whatever else you want. When I'm on the go and don't have time to eat a leisurely meal I go for the shake or the lunch meat and it has not failed me yet. Hope this helps!!!
