I have Greek yogurt with half scoop protein powder with 1/2 cup high protein cereal for breakfast at 10. I only have shakes after a fill or occationally before workouts. If I eat lunch at 12 I have a long time before dinner (8-9). I've moved breakfast to 10 so I can move lunch to 2; so the time until dinner is less.

Transition from Liquids too easy!!
bromo replied to Ready to Go's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also banded on the 14th. I am on pureed foods now but have had no hunger at all. Sometimes I cannot eat the whole of the 4 oz yogurts. I drank my cream of chicken soup protein shake too fast today and was terribly uncomfortable for a bit, enough that I could not finish it. I do not know if the fact that I had plication along with the band is making a difference, but I am definitely not getting any physical hunger pains. Occasionally head hunger does rear its ugly head though. -
How to stop sugar cravings during AF?
jamilyne 102668 replied to Wendydarling19's topic in The Gals' Room
When it's my TOM I eat sugar free/fat free pudding - it's 60 calories and it helps with that chocolate urge that I get sometimes. You know what else is good - try a different kind of low fat yogurt, I like the key lime pie one, it's like 90 calories and that helps me too. Just a suggestion it kind of tricks my mind and makes me feel like I'm having a treat! -
My Stupid Question #2 -- Good Calories Bad Calories
Izuri replied to DanaInNewOrleans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just thought I'd give you an idea what my soft foods diet has been like so far. I am on soft foods for 3 months before moving to regular, so I've got a while to come up with stuff =p In the morning I always have a 6oz Protein shake or smoothie w/greek yogurt, skim milk, fruit, 1-2 scoops Protein powder. Morning snack: usually something simple like 1/2-3/4 cup of cabbage Soup that I make over the weekend. I have been trying to add in fruit as Snacks too, so sometimes I'll opt for 1/2 a banana or a couple strawberries. Lunch: Some kind of meat - Usually leftovers from the night before. I really like shredded chicken thrown in the crock pot with some salsa and stuff. I will have about 2oz of meat and sometimes a veggie/a couple fruit slices if I have room Afternoon snack: Often I'll have a small protein shake/smoothie because I have trouble getting in all my protein, but sometimes I'll have something like a couple ounces of tuna salad with a little bit of cheese on top Dinner: Ground or flaky meat - 2oz with either steamed veggies or some kind of veggie/sauce that it's cooked in. If I don't have anything made I will usually have scrambled eggs or tuna. Evening snack: I don't always get this one in because if I wake up late I throw the timing off, but I will sometimes have fruit slices, milk with a tsp of no sugar added hersheys chocolate syrup (I love chocolate milk), or a little bit of juice. If I've really been craving something sweet I'll have a small amount of carb smart ice cream, but I've found the less I have it, the less I even want anything sweet. I have been getting about 500-700 calories most days, 60+ grams of protein, and 50 or under carbs (I try and aim for under 40 on good days), Most days it seems to give me a decent amount of energy. I really miss crunchy, I can't wait to try some of emilybites recipes once I finally get back to regular foods. -
My Stupid Question #2 -- Good Calories Bad Calories
Catracks replied to DanaInNewOrleans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost 7 months out and stay around 750-800 calories. The general rule is Protein first, then some veggies and fruits in small amounts. If I am mountain hiking or doing something strenuous then I might up my carbs a little and have some good, healthy bread. I don't eat refined sugar at all or highly processed foods. If I want to add calories, I will eat a handful of almonds or pistachios or an oz. of cheese. A little of those go a long way. I eat a modified Paleo (or some call it "Primal") diet and here is what I'm eating today for Breakfast and lunch 3 oz sirloin 24 small shrimp sauteed in coconut oil Greek yogurt 6 oz 1/8 cup sliced almonds (love them in my yogurt!) 1/2 cup broccoli For dinner I might have some chicken breast and more broccoli - although some baby back ribs are calling my name. I can eat 2 or three. I skip the sugary sauce though and make my own. P.S. I mix coffee in my chocolate Protein powder. I will usually do 6 oz of coffee and 2 oz of 2% milk. I make my own protein ice cream and don't eat sugar. I also won't eat mayo because at 100 calories a TBS, its a waste. Try mixing your chicken salad with high protein plain Greek yogurt instead. Add a few cranberries, grapes or nuts in. Got my labs back. Everything is normal. I haven't been sick a day. -
Only water for 5 days
VickieSH replied to hlenoble's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Personally I find it impossible to believe!! The human body NEEDS nutrients (especially proteins) to heal!! My post-op diet includes two high protein/low sugar shakes (Worldwide Pure Protein/35 grams Protein per shake), greek-style yogurt (14 grams protein), tomato juice, ff/sf jell-o, ff/sf popsicles, low-fat cream Soups thinned down with non-fat milk, and all the Water I can take. This lasts two weeks until after I go to my surgeon for follow-up. It continually amazes me how every doctor or program differs on this kind of stuff!! -
I am full liquids and can have cottage cheese, creamed Soup, veggie soup, bean Soups, (which creamed and bean are Protein AND starch...) oatmeal, yogurt, stuff like that. I recommend (though not a doc) Breakfast (oatmeal or yogurt) protein shake/drink for snack lunch (cottage cheese- 1 cup)4-8 oz protein shake/drink for snack here or after dinner dinner (1 cup of soup, with a couple crackers in the soup)4-8oz Lots of Water in between This is what my day generally looks like.
-
Quest Protein bars. Low sugar or carb control yogurt. Premier Protein. A lot of people on here seem to like GENEPRO (sp) My stomach doesn't like meat either.
-
Once healed my doctor does not want me using Protein shakes as meal replacement. The band is meant to work with solid food. A liquid does not keep you full, it washes right through the pouch into the big stomach. Because I have a long time between lunch and supper I do have a premade Protein shake on the way to the gym. It's premier brand that I buy at costco 160 calories for 30 grams of protein. Because the band tends to be tighter in the morning some people have a protein shake for breakfast. Because I have to leave really early in the morning I have a cup of hot coffee during my commute and then have a Greek yogurt for breakfast once I get to work. I have a fruited Chobani Greek yogurt mixed with half a scoop of Protein powder and unflavored Fiber powder, I add a couple walnuts and about a quarter cup of Kashi go lean high protein Cereal. The key to this is bringing the powder ingredients in 1 small container and the nuts and cereal in another.
-
I agree with Dooter--it will happen. Stalls suck, but they're temporary IF you stick with your program. If you can't do the protein shakes, make your own from "real food" items--use Greek yogurt, milk of some sort, flavorings, and ice cubes. I added nonfat milk powder to mine to up the protein, but you could also add Egg Beaters (they're pasteurized) to up the protein--you can flavor to your heart's content with sugar-free syrups, cocoa powder, instant coffee, sugar-free pudding mix, sugar-free jello, whatever floats your boat... and you can get it all at a regular grocery store. Be sure you're getting enough fluids--dehydration will stall you out super fast. Hang in there!!
-
Cloe.... Generally I have a Protein shake in the morning (sometimes I blend in a 1/2 of a bananna). I should probably eat "real food" but this is quicker for me as I get ready for work. This is normally around 7:15 am. If it is a wknd, I usually have a "real" Breakfast. For example, today (off work today) I had 2 pancakes that hubby made for me. Other times he might make me an omelette or another egg type breakfast. When at work I don't generally have a morning snack (I do if I'm home). At lunch (at work) I'll have something like a "lunchable" (the one with crackers/cheese/turkey) or Beans (ie. canned beans...I love 'em). If at home (ie. wknd) I'll have something else like maybe a wrap or a quesadilla (sp?) with grilled chicken. An afternoon snack may consist of yogurt or pudding. Supper is completely varied, so I can't really give you a synopsis there. And...yes...I do have chips sometimes...But this is my last time ...no chips for me for August due to my personal Candadian goal challenge!.

I do A LOT of greek yogurt too!!! I mix in some blueberries or raspberries and some splenda...it really is yummy!! Funnything...I go by Amybee all the time...and I went to ASU...just thought it was sort of a coincidence!

[emoji177] Sounds wonderful! [emoji177] My chicken bone broth have had very little meat in them but the beef broth I am making now has a lot more. I am making one batch of bone broth and the second batch will be beefy cabbage soup, I will cycle each batch through twice before starting the next batch. The recipe I use for cabbage soup says 1 cup is 100% of your daily fiber requirements, I’m going to ask my surgeon if I can eat that during the broth stage (yogurt is allowed so I thought over cooked cabbage might be ok). I am really worried about the constipation, my plumbing has slowed down quite a bit on the mostly protein diet. ☹️ Have a great day! Amanda [emoji16] HW 248 CW 241 Surgery Date: pending 11/21/2017. Been a while for me, but pudding and yogurt saved my life! Of course, you'll go for the sugar free stuff. Also some low fat smoothies. I think Dannon Lite and Fit are some good ones. When is your surgery?

HOW MUCH IN ONE MEAL
Dave_NW replied to LookatmeNow34's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Something's haywire. I'll bet if you go back and ask your surgeon, you'll find out they said (or meant) 3 OUNCES of Protein, not three BITES of food, per meal. Three bites is just crazy talk. I eat around a cup to a cup and a half per meal, depending on what it is. Today is a light food day for me, but here's what I've eaten today: Breakfast: RTD Premier Nutrition chocolate shake. 160 calories, 30g protein. Snack: Half of a "Naked" Breakfast sandwich. That's a fried egg, slice of cheese, and breakfast sausage patty, but no English muffin. Half is about 150 calories, and has about 20g protein. Lunch: Small serving of Wendy's chili. 220 calories, 17g protein. Dinner: Half-sized Wendy's berry Almond chicken salad. 270 calories, 21g protein. beverages have been coffee, iced tea, and lots of Water. Total for the day: 800 calories, and 88g protein. Easy. And if I need a snack later this evening, I'll probably have yogurt, or maybe a cheese stick or two. I still have room in my daily count, so even if I have both, I'm still well under 1200 calories for the day. Dave -
Banded 10-6-09 - Scared and Failing

Hi, i feel your pain....congratulations on your 20 pound loss. I was banded on march 19, 2010 and have lost 16 pounds since surgery and 24 pounds total. I think you may be eating too many carbs, my doc told me to eat 80 to 100 grams of protein and drink 80 ounces of water a day (not so good with the water). My menu consist of...3 turkey sausage links and 40z of greek yogurt....bumble bee tuna sensations and 10 almonds or laughing cow cheese......3 to 4 turkey meatballs in marinara sauce and 1/4 cup of steamed broccoli ...a protein shot if i am not at 80 grams and a pudding before 9pm (need something sweet to close my evening. I eat around 1100 calories a day sometimes less sometimes a little more. Hope this helps! -
Did you have a calorie limit for the pre-op diet?
dolphintattoo replied to dolphintattoo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can have unlimited diet soda, crystal light or other sugar/calorie free beverages and broth only based Soups. This is the actual text, I am just confused if I have to stick to these quanitities or calories, again I will ask the doc, just wondering what the norm is. Consume these liquids in moderation; they contain larger amounts of sugar. 1. juice, Gatorade® or Powerade®- Limit to 2 cups or less each day. (Try to choose juices lower in sugar such as apple, orange or grapefruit.) 2. Regular Jello, popsicles or no sugar added fudgicles- 3 or less each day. 3. 1 cup of milk (skim, 1%, Lactaid®) 6 ounces light yogurt (Dannon Light, Yoplait Light or Columbo Light, Greek style yogurt like Chobani (0%) or Fage), ½ cup low fat ricotta cheese or ½ cup Low fat cottage cheese: 3 or less daily. 4. Atkins shakes, Carb Solutions Shakes or No Sugar added Carnation Instant Breakfast-1-3 per day. (These can be found at Osco, Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, and BJ’s). Carnation Instant Breakfast can be found at any supermarket. DO NOT BUY: Slimfast, Ensure, Boost, etc. -
Banded 10-6-09 - Scared and Failing
bandedgirl75 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am hoping someone can shed some light and help me. I was banded on 10/6/09. I was 247lbs on my surgery date. I have lost a total of 20lbs since surgery date. That means I am almost 6months out and have lost 20lbs in 6months. My band holds 10cc's. I am up to 7.25 but even still I eat atleast 2 cups of food. That scares me because I am almost at the max and if I max...what do I do then? I am so depressed. I am trying so hard. Since my weight loss has been so slow I figured I would start calorie counting...thinking that was my problem. I have been consuming about 1200-1400 calories a day from food not obtained thru a fast food window. Food Examples: I eat breakfast (bagel thin with 2 eggs and a string cheese). A morning snack 4 wheat thin garlic and parsely crackers with laughing cow cheese and 4-5 small strawberries...lunch a lean cuisine with cucumbers (1/2 cup) with about 5 croutons and 1tbsp of Italian Dressing on it....afternoon snack banana with a Super Whey Protein shot....dinner 6-7 grilled shrimp with cucumber salad (above) and yogurt for dessert. Before surgery I was taking about 3000 steps a day.....I am now walking about 13,000 by the bedtime...I bought a pedometer (a good one :-)....Am I missing something in the middle? I am so lost at this point. Even without more saline you would think I would be losing off pure cutting calories and walking. What gives? I need help...I am crying as I type this because I feel like I am failing, failing myself, my children, my husband. Worst of all my 5yr old son was at the dinner table last night and said...My friends liked you on our field trip, they said you were really nice and you have a big fat belly. He had no clue that it hurt me to the core because he is so little but I went into my room and fell to my knees. God help me. -
Did you have a calorie limit for the pre-op diet?
dolphintattoo posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I start my liquid diet on 1/21. The written directions give items which you may have in limited quantities such as fat free greek yogurt, juice, milk etc... Did you have a set # of these which you could have or was it based on daily caloric intake? I will be seeing the doc on 1/7 and will ask him, but starting to get ready by purchasing items I will need. -
No fills and still large weight loss ?? How ??
Jachut replied to Nicole0425's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I got three months out without a fill and I lost about 40lb in that time - half my excess weight. My weight loss slowed right down after that, to average about 1lb a week and then about 1lb a month, and it took me 2 and a half years in the end to lose 120lb (obviously I lost more than just my "excess"). In hindsight I could have gone longer and as it was, I only had tiny fills, building the restriction up very slowly over that first year. I had superb restriction - I have a 4cc band I really believe the older bands were much better than the newer in the earlier stages - with the surgicial swelling mine gave good restriction - better than I've ever achieved since with fills since it was very snug and I could only eat less than a cup 3 times a day and never had head hunger or even thought about food. If I tried to go that tight now, I'd have vomiting and reflux at night. It was just really easy - that weight loss was like magic, effortless and automatic. I went for a walk the day I got home from the hospital and exercised every single day, back to vigorous 40 minutes on the elliptical by week 3 and then by about week 6, I started running. So I was exercising, I was highly motivated, spurred on by fast results, it was a real honeymoon period. It got much harder after that. You do "diet" with the band. I mean, you cant eat crap just in small quantities and you do have to say no to a lot of your food impulses. You have to exercise. We have all failed at that before but we can all do it or getting a band wont make much impact. The difference with the band is that you can actually keep it up and if you do fall off the wagon, in general you cant eat enough to do much damage. You cant eat a cookie, think yo'uve blown it and then eat an entire pizza, a tub of icecream and a birthday cake! I've been out for lunch today, to a barbecue. I had 2 glasses of wine, a bit of salad, potato salad, a chicken skewer and a piece of the french stick, then I had a nibble at the cheese platter afterwards with a coffee. It was spread over a couple of hours and to be honest, I was embarrassed by my tiny plate of lunch - one skewer (lucky to be 50 grams of chicken), three small cubes of potato salad, a lettuce leaf, cherry tomato and slice of cucumber and a piece of bread the size of a cracker. It looked pretty funny compared to others' plates. Maybe 3 pieces of brie and 3 crackers and a date and a few walnuts. Probably less than 800 calories all up. But even to enjoy that, I only had a coffee and a small yogurt for Breakfast and dinner is a very small bowl of homemade Soup - even though truth be told, I could eat a normal dinner and will probably go to bed a bit hungry. I have to plan for it, and work around it to "indulge' but I feel exactly like I did in the old days when my plate was piled with steak, loads of potato, etc. I enjoyed it and feel like I had an indulgence. That's what's so great about the band. A day out, social eating but no real damage done. The only "cost" is that I have to economise on the other two meals and I went for a run at 7 am on a Sunday morning (ugh, not my idea of fun). And when DH offered me a wine a minute ago, I had to say no thanks. Two in a day is enough. -
Moving toward Being Single??
notateechanow replied to notateechanow's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
So I re-read this thread today to remind me of how far I've come. My ex and I no longer speak. Things got ugly--really ugly. He started dating another woman (yes, I did realize he would date...) around Thanksgiving and proposed to her on Christmas Eve. So, evidently he didn't have commitment issues, he just didn't want to be with ME. I spent my first 2 months in my new apartment trying to keep myself together...afraid if I stopped smiling, I'd never stop crying. I realize now that it wasn't him I missed in my life so much as it was that I was so sad that he didn't love me enough to want to be with me. I spent 3 months of sleepless nights--did I mention I've never lived alone?! I finally started working out at night, between 8 and 10, because it was the hardest time of the day for me to stay out of the kitchen and keep it all together. It also helped me sleep. I had a fill right after Thanksgiving. Between that time and New Years' Day, I lost almost 40 pounds. I realize it's far more than I'm supposed to lose, but I swear I did it in a healthy way. (Cooking for one just isn't any fun. Eating yogurt or pre-cooked turkey meatballs is just far easier when it's just me!) I also worked out for nearly 2 hours a day. I took some time off from the gym around New Years' on the advice of my surgeon. My ex is now single again. (some things just have to make you laugh!) I spent Valentine's Day with my friends at a singles' party. I've been dating as much as I possibly can--there are 3 meals a day, after all, and that doesn't even include coffee! My apartment is finally looking like I live here. I couldn't bring myself to decorate or even put up curtains initially, but I'm getting there. I'm training for a 5K in May. I'm meeting new people and making new friends. I am going back to Aruba for Memorial Day weekend--my reward for my first road race. :mad2: I'm learning to love myself and appreciate men who admire me. I'm not looking to fall in love today, but you never know. Incidentally, I started individual counseling around late November, when I just couldn't seem to put my life back together on my own and didn't want to depend on whining to my friends any more. We all have limits. It hasn't been an easy journey, but my new life is finally mine. I control it. I appreciate it. I love it. The Lap Band hasn't just given me control of my eating--it's given me the confidence to go after what I want in life. It has allowed me to find what makes ME happy, not just create happiness by making others happy. I am not at goal yet. I'd like to lose another 40 pounds. When the time comes, I'll get there.....for now, I'm training for my 5K. Thank you so much to all of you who were supportive when I most needed it. I can't tell you how much it meant and still means to me. :sneaky: -
I had my rny in June of this year. I was doing fine until I had my gallbladder out in September. After that I developed an ulcer and heart trouble. I ended up getting a pacemaker. I did not gain any weight during this time. However, i am afraid I could be developing an eating disorder. I am now afraid to eat due to fear of gaining weight. I don't eat then go vomit like some with eating disorders. I am just down right afraid to eat. I basically just eat a Greek yogurt in the morning for breakfast before I go to the gym, I have a lean cuisine for lunch, a protein shake because I need the protein. That's pretty much it. I occasionally have a protein bar for dinner so I can get my 60 mg of protein in. I see my psychiatrist on the 7th of January and I plan on discussing this with him. Just wanted some opinions of others.

Why am I keeping it Quiet???
Susanbee replied to sandibly's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Almost impossible to keep it to yourself if you eat with others. If others were watching me the first thing they would have noticed is the Diet Coke addiction was gone. Yogurt and cottage cheese for lunch...what happened to the pizza and chips. And what do you mean you are going to take 1/2 your lunch to walk....yes you must tell or they will commit you!!! -
I was banded on 7/11/08 and have not had a fill yet either. I am also tired of eggs. I have started eating greek style yogurt as it has more protein than regular yogurt. I doctor it up with fruit and/or flavored Torani sugar free syrups. It seems to keep me full for a few hours.

Anyone else 3 weeks out ?
donkey booty replied to Band07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 9/18. I'm down 30 pounds I've been cleared to eat solids and so far everything goes down just fine. I eat greek yogurt, home made Turkey chilli, Turkey meatballs, veggies burgers, baked chicken and fish. Just no carbs or sugar I'm afraid of both.
