So the nutritionist told me that they do not require the 2 week pre op liquid diet because they feel that their patients get burnt out since we have the Protein shakes for two weeks afterwards then move to soft foods like yogurt and stuff. I'm feeling for those of you who have to do that! Of course this doesn't mean I get to eat whatever up until the surgery. They want me trying different shakes and I've found I enjoy the myoplex. They told me to stop the caffeine, sugar and such so I'm steady working towards that.

I am on soft foods and I could have salmon. My wife made me some yesterday and it was delicious. But I realized very quickly that no matter how much I chewed it filled me up quite a bit faster than things like Soup or yogurt. I have been eating 4-5 ozs of food per meal, but with the salmon I could only have about 3 ozs. I think the density made me fill up quicker so if you can have it, my advice would be very careful and take your time with it.

HOw is everybody doing ? I'm able to eat more foods now and glad to not have to rely on shakes n yogurt for every meal. Constipation is still a problem, but trying to find a balance in my diet. I have been taking some bites( literally one or two bites) of "no no foods" but haven't lost control. I've hit the first stall week 4, which was expected. Still feel fat but jeans are loose. I've started doing aqua aerobics which I really enjoy. Still waiting to feel pretty.....

I go daily. I add flavorless fiber powder to my morning Greek yogurt and take fiber gummies daily. In addition to your 3 oz of protein you also need to have high fiber veggies. If you can't eat/have room for veggies you are too tight.

I mix Isopure protein powder (alpine punch flavored) with unflavored greek yogurt. I tried the Isopure with water or milk and I didn't like it. The greek yogurt ads enough tartness to make in taste OK.

Dr Ponce - complications
kerrbeari replied to kerrbeari's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The infection is gone (knock on wood) puss long gone thank god. incision still healing & nasty looking compared to the others which look nice. On full liquids but that's about 2 or 3 tablespoons of yogurt or soup a day. The Percocet wasn't able to block the pain from that even (I refuse to take more than 1 at a time). Finally starting to be able to handle coffee or Metamucil without severe cramps. I hope I can get back to work very soon but can't drive on the Percocet. -
Oh that sucks. I had read a few good reviews, and i was hopeful. Meh. I got some frozen greek yogurt and it was delicious!

I have see. recipes I. Which the cottage cheese was blended till smooth then added. If it's the texture, that would work. If it's the tang of yogurt, try it where you would use sour cream. Lynda

2nd day with the band and very happy
Airam13 replied to neveo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also banded on 4/7. I had trouble sleeping as well. I will be so glad when I can sleep on my side and stomach again. Still a bit sore and trying not to over do anything. I have to be on a liquid diet for 10 days then mushies for 4 weeks. I have lost 5 pounds so far. I have been eating tomato soup and creamy chicken soup I have had some yogurt and some sugar free pudding and 2 sugar free popsicles. Along with 2 Protein drinks I make it in a blender with ice and it tastes like choclate icecream. 4 oz of skim milk 1 scoop of the powder add some ice and blend. mmm mmm. I wish everyone the best of luck and you begin your new journey. -
I cut out all the sweets after surgery and I didn't eat fruit until the six-month mark. For breakfast, I would have 2 oz of ground turkey with taco seasoning and a tablespoon of greek yogurt. For lunch, 3 large shrimp. For dinner, 2 oz of fish and one or two broccoli florets. For snacks, I had 10 almonds. Fruit, dairy, pudding, candy--I waited for these until the majority of my weight was gone. I am not saying that my way is the only way, but I knew that I needed to get to goal as fast as possible and I was willing to stick to a really strict regimen to do it.

I have a greek yogurt smoothie during the work week. I add some additional protein powder (chocolate) and a couple of strawberries or a banana with some ice and 2 packets of splenda and blend it up in the blender. Yum, I love them. I have also used vanilla protein powder with frozen peaches. I get 1/2 of my days protein in the morning.

Thanks everyone....Renee, I too am a Dr Aceves patient and am only allowed the 2 oz, I know I couldn't even do 1 oz of yogurt yet.. I am okay w/this, it's just different than my band and was unexpected. With my band, I had no issues w/yogurt or even cottage cheese at this point. I can now see why people lose so quickly..I am now down 22lbs in 16 days. I am still so tremendously happy to have that band out of me, I think I can handle almost anything. I just need to get some more Protein shakes..I have been living off the Premeire Protein RTD from costco and Special K Protein H20. I appreciate all of you!!! Erika

I'm almost 1 week post-op and I'm burping a whole lot! One weird episode I had tonight was weird stomach cramps that come and go. It felt like contractions! I don't know if maybe I ate too late or the yogurt I had was too thick but it freaked me out! Has anything like this happened to anyone before?

1 week post fear I may be losing too fast
scrosler replied to Joshua Barbour's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow! I was just coming on here to ask the same question! I had VSG on 4/20. My starting weight was about 418. Yesterday I weighed in at 385! I thought the scale was broke so I tried another one at the walk in clinic. It was accurate. So I am with you, about 2.5 pounds a day is what I loose. All of my foods thus far have been step 2 slider foods. I think thats what they are called (I'm a newb). I have eaten nothing but Protein supplements, soup, Greek yogurt and sip Water all day. For the first time in over 5 years I was able to walk 1 complete mile without any back pain (which was the reason I got the surgery, facet joint disorder in my lower back). I feel energized all the time where as before surgery, I would want to take naps during the day. Could barely stay awake for an 8 hour shift at work. I had a couple friends tell me that even after 6 weeks of being on disability they could barely muster the energy to go back to work. IM on my second week off and I am dying to go back to work (Ok, I am not dying to go to work but you get the idea ). Glad I am not alone in thinking that I am loosing too fast! -
calories be damned?
ShelterDog64 replied to beyondgrief's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I'd lose the whole grain crackers and try to replace that with Protein...14 of them, even if they're wheat thin sized, takes up a lot of space that you could give to protein. And like LL said, switch the cashews for almonds or at least mix them. Cashews are yummy, but have more saturated fat than almonds. That's another place where you can swap in a different protein, like a dairy, if you skip the nuts entirely...I still look at saturated fats as a less-desirable option. A handful of cashews is roughly 150 cals/15 g. fat/5 g. protein. You could substitute a container of Oikos Triple Zero greek yogurt and get 150 cals/0 fat/15 g. protein. -
I'm getting tired of the same ol' Snacks and mini meals. I currently use Emily Bites recipes and eat a lot of yogurt, shaved meets, canned meats, cheeses, etc. Anyone have any new ideas for the salt lover in me? On the go ideas would be great too. I can only have nuts 1-2 times per week. Thank you in advance.

Your meal plan is probably dependent on the type of surgery and the directions from your doctor and nutritionist. Since you are posting under the gastric bypass surgery section, I would assume you had a Roux-en-y bypass. The direction I received when I had that surgery was: First 4 weeks - full liquids Weeks 5-8 pureed foods Weeks 9+ solid meals I would suspect that trying to eat a turkey burger at two weeks out will be extremely hard on your new stomach. In the full liquid menu for Protein, recommended sources are yogurt (plain, no fruit variety), low fat cottage cheese, low fat cheese, Beans (refried, pinto, navy, kidney, lentils, great northern.) A separate requirement is protein supplement. This begins on day five following surgery and after you are passing gas regularly. This requirement is 75 to 90 grams of protein per day. This requirement is different that the volume limitations on the meal plan. Generally in the early stages most individuals meet this requirement by drinking Protein shakes.

I'm 11 months out and here is what I have found works for me. B-1/2 cup of Greek yogurt at 6:30am and 16 oz. skim milk before that. L- 1/2 to 3/4 cup of protein like steak or chicken. D-1/2 to 3/4 cup mixed veggies and protein. I also drink propel zero water throughout the day. If I am feeling like a snack it is 1/4 cup of nuts usually almonds or pistachios.

I can't even eat anything from a fast food resturant on the go. anything with bread gets stuck no matter how much I chew it or how small the bite. anything fried gets stuck. fast food is out of the question for me at this point (thank God!) Get another fill as soon as possible. It'll start getting stuck and you'll be forced to make the better choices! Get drinkable/sippable yogurt to take with you.

Hey La Lady! I was having this issue last week and wasn't losing, remember? I got vigilant about tracking on myfitnesspal and had to change up my menu so I could get between 700-750 calories. And voila! Three pounds down in four days. Here's a sample of two days for me, keeping in mind that I'm now eating soft foods and some pureed meats. Breakfast: Peanut Butter chocolate Protein shake (made with 1.5 scoops) and skim milk, an extra TBS peanut butter. OR 1/2 cup eggbeaters, 1/4 cup shredded cheese, 2 slices pureed turkey bacon OR 6 pureed thin slices turkey lunchmeat, topped with one slice low fat cheese [this takes me all morning to eat - it's like two meals] Lunch: Tuna salad made with 2 TBS light mayo, 1 Tsp Dijon mustard, 2 hardboiled egg whites, dill, onion powder OR 6 slices thin deli meat, with 1 TBS flavored cream cheese Dinner: Salmon patties (fresh salmon, a little light mayo, herbs and spices, fried in nonstick spray) topped with a little greek yogurt with dill mixed in OR Ricotta bake, with 2 TBS spaghetti sauce and 1/4 cup mozzarella cheese Snack: 1 Light string cheese OR 1/4 cup cottage cheese My fat goals are higher than yours - I aim for less than 40 a day. I also have too much reliance on processed meats while in softs - now that I can actually transition to real meats that will get better. I also hope that now I can eat real meats I can cut back on my dairy consumption, and thereby reduce my fat intake. On average, I eat about 750 calories, 25-28 carbs, 35 fat, and 85-90 protein a day. But some days my calories are down around 650, and some days my carbs are less than 20 while my protein hits 100...I try very hard to keep things interesting. I drink whenever I'm not eating, usually only waiting about 20 minutes after my meal to start again. I find it's not hard to get in my Water but I am drinking from the time I wake up until I go to bed at night to get to goal. That's what works for me, though. We're all different. All I can say is keep changing it up. Some days I eat more carbs but less calories, some days I eat more protein and less carbs but I never eat the same thing or the same menu two days in a row. Once I got out of my rut (same shake for Breakfast, same cottage cheese for lunch, same ricotta bake for dinner) and upped my calories I started losing again. Good luck! ~Cheri

Artificial Sweetener Allergies?
gabybab replied to jenmc1986's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I also used the fairlife milk and YQ plain yogurt with a small amount of honey. I could not tolerate whey at all. -
It's hard to fathom right now, but that feeling of hunger, and things tasting good AND going down easily comes back. You need to find something chock full of protein that you can tolerate though. 7 weeks isn't very far out, and at that time I got most of my protein from shakes. Have you tried the Premier Protein shakes. I couldn't do the ones that the NUT wanted me drinking, but those I could tolerate. Also, try googling eggfaces baked ricotta. Cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese (softer), hummus (I lived on that!)... these were all easy for me to eat. Keep in mind though, back then, I did good to get 1 ounce, let alone the 3 ounces or 1/4c my NUT suggested. Keep sipping water, and keep trying out things to find what goes down easiest right now. Steak, chicken, and other dense proteins will come in time. Isopure also makes protein mixes that go in water and taste more like flavored water (kinda) than the milky ones, that's also an option as so many find themselves lactose intolerant for a few months (usually not permanently)
