Question for those who lost quickly
Tamz replied to Jensharley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ive lost 31lbs since June 1st - I was sleeved June 9th - since the 9th I have lost 24 lbs Since my surgery I have been eating basically 0% fat Greek Yogurt - Fage is a good brand. You can mix with Splenda for taste if you like. Also, Progresso Light Soups in the blender so there will be no chunks. Campbells Select Harvest is really good too. I eat 2oz at a time, 3 times a day.... and do sugar free popsicles as a filler in between - WORKS GREAT! I also do 2 Protein drinks, Mid morning - and a few hrs before dinner. 25 grams each to give me 50 for the day. ( i need 40-60). Highly recommend the GNC Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60 - leanest that i have found and tastes good. (chocolate tastes like choc milk ) My Dr says to walk 10-20 min right after eating. So I follow orders! One time I didnt... and felt the difference Walking right after helps it settle, and helps you burp etc if you need to. I highly recommend it. I must be doing something right 31 lbs since June 1 baby! Good luck you will do great!!!! -
I was banded Oct 22nd started at 219 and I am only at 207 the last time I went to the doctors office for a fill. I think that I totally suck at my food choices maybe because I can't really eat real food and I eat very little. I am going to see the dietician today so we will see how much hope she gives me. I do exercise not much but I do and here is a sample of what I eat. AM - Yoplait yogurt lunch - Mushy Masa basically this is corn mill cooked with onion, tomate, and chille it is a mexican dish anyways I eat like a cup maybe. Sample LUnch- Canned Soup, Canned Raviolis, Canned Chef Boy R D stuff, grilled chicken Snack- sometimes whatever I find Dinner- Cereal, Pasta Drink only Water always. I have noticed that sometimes when I eat I get this freaking pain in my stomach. I get a lot of slimy nasty saliva also. Please if you have any suggestions please share them with me. I will post what the dietician gives me later today.

OKay here is the question. I know ice cream is a no no, I know yogurt, low fat is okay. Is frozen yogurt ok? I know Popsicles are, I know the calories and carbs are a little higher, but could this be a once a week treat? Help?
-
There is technically no "no-no" or forbidden food. The only thing banded people aren't supposed to have is carbonation. As for stuff like frozen yogurt, the key is moderation. I have had since being banded, however it's been a small serving and still fit into my daily caloric allowance. Plus, it's a rare treat, not a daily or even weekly occurrence.

Hi , I buy Fage plain greek yogurt ( 20 grams protein per container) and mix a fruit flavored greek yogurt usually about 14-16 grams of protein. Do that just twice a day and you will almost hit your daily amount of protein. Also soy nuts taste great and one cup is about 36 grams of protein. Salad with beans of any kind, cottage cheese, cubed cheese, tofu. Read labels and experiment with different combinations. I was not a protein drink fan but there are flavorless protein powders you can add to anything . Good luck

Hi there, I'm looking at the BioEntrics manual right now and it states for the first one to four weeks all you can eat is clear broth or Soup (no vegis/meat and not creamy), low-fat yogurt, milk (pref. skim), Jello, and fruit juice or pureed soft fruit. Maybe try going back to that and see if it helps? Also, you are only supposed to eat a half teacup of food, not a cup. Roberta

Confused about Carbs...
LumpySpacePrincess replied to MarceMonster's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you're referring to post-op, as Fireflea says, you should be focusing on getting in your Protein and Water FIRST. I avoided any fruit (other than the occasional strawberry or two chopped up in my high protein yogurt) for the first 9 months post-op. Fruit does have nutritional value, but to your body it is basically candy that grows on trees. Stick with non-starchy vegetables and you will get just as many nutrients without the sugar load. -
I do a modified version of south beach. Breakfast- 2 scrambled eggs with green peppers, onions, tomatoes and a sprinkle of 2%cheddar cheese; 4-6 strawberries Snack- Yogurt parfait with frozen berries and Kashi GO LEAN crunch on top. Underwire bras - can they make your band tighter?
Melinco replied to Melinco's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I may have actually been slightly stuck. Last week when I went in for my last fill, my doc and staff got after me for still eating yogurt, which they consider to be a slider food. They said if you're not chewing it, then it can slide right through the band, despite the fact that the yogurt I eat is full of Protein. So this weekend I bought some Kashi Cereal that is loaded with Fiber and protein and started adding it to my yogurt. This morning I had my string cheese followed by the yogurt/cereal. I wasn't even finished eating when I could feel the pain. I thought it was my underwire bra, so went home and changed. It didn't really help. When I got back to the office, I went and got my Water (by this time an hour had passed) and drank a bit. Didn't really help but I didn't have any come back up (although I didn't drink more than maybe two ounces). So I call my doctor's office and asked if it were possible if I could be stuck. After talking back and forth, it was decided I could be slightly stuck and it should pass through, although it may take a couple of hours. She said to continue to sip water but to do liquids for a couple of days as I could have irritated it and have some swelling. It's almost an hour later now and I am feeling relief. I've been trying to stand up as much as I can and continue to drink my water. Bad thing though is that I have a business lunch today and I just called the restaurant to see if they have any Soup. They don't. However, because it is a Mexican restaurant (my brother in law's place), they do have green chili, so I'm thinking I might just get a bowl of that and eat the broth only. I've had my band now for almost 3.5 months and this is new to me. I've been very fortunate and haven't been stuck or PBd. I've slimed during a BM (that because I was almost sick). I have a feeling that it takes a while for my fills to kick in before I actually feel restriction. Weird. -
I had a fat free strawberry yogurt yesterday and a raspberry fat free one the day before. I am in a panic cause I just saw someone post you can't have berries. I don't recall my nutritionist or surgeon ever mentioning it to me. Did I screw up royally? I am 11 days post op and was instructed I could have yogurt. Please help!

I have only been on yogurt for 3 days. Still doing the nasty. (Protein shakes)

The next thing on my list of must haves is Dannon Oikos fruit on the bottom Greek yogurt and Chobani flips. Nature Valley Protein Granola(honey and oats). Other things I eat frequently are: Fish (usually salmon or tilapia) Mixed nuts cheese Tomatoes Cucumbers Broccoli Green Giant frozen veggies(the ones that come in single serving sizes) All white meat chicken salad from the deli section at Kroger Ham slices sugar free gum(no, I don't eat it but I love to chew it after meals to freshen my breath) No sugar added pickles eggs Lettuce( I use it to wrap my sandwich fixings in and avoid the bread) -
This is not to slam anyone, but I really would like some input. I read here so many that say the band doesn't work, or that 20,30,or 40lbs have come off and now nothing. I realize that many of you have had problems with slippage or some other medial issue, so I'm not thinking of you, I have been reflecting and I'm finding some greal gray areas for myself. I started to make my food changes the day of my seminar, I cut out sweet tea, sodas, starting taking smaller portions , no drink with food and soon started to feel bertter. And I was working hard to drink my Water. I choose the band because the bypass scared me, and I didn't like the look of those who had it. I followed my own changes from Nov. until my 2 week pre op diet.in Feb. I was down 18lbs on that day. I was good about following the instructions and the weight keep coming off. I didn't exercise much, just watched what I ate. When I finally lost 63 lbs. and was in a size 12....I lost my mind. I got lazy and stopped following the rules. I lost my commitment to the program. I stopped loosing . Even knowing this I can't get on track. I say these things because I don't think we are all as commited as we once were, we are not as honest with ourselves as we need to be. For me candy keeps wandering into my home, coffee creams are the devils inventtion and sugar has rentered through a back door. Still knowing this, I can't seem to shake things back in the right places. I started this journey because I didn't want to be on a diet for life, and I don't feel I am. One of my problems is that even though I don't have ture restriction, I don't have a problem with hunger, I thought if I wasn't hungry I shouldn't eat...very wrong. I am stumped about how to fix where I am, I need to loose anthore 30-35lbs to be in the guidelines. I would like to loose about 15 to feel like I had a true result for my effor. I don't think doc will do a fill since I'm not hungry. I try to eat meat & veggies but it is usually only once a day. Yogurt and Protein drinks to try to get the protein in. My life schedule is strange and gym time never seems to come. So, is it not working or am I doning something wrong.

I need help with a horrible stall! Any advice to kick start things?
megansmommy123 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 7 months post op, and have lost 98 pounds. I want so badly to hit that 100 pound mark, but I just cant seem to get there. I've been bouncing the same 2 pounds back and forth since early December. I know most of it was Christmas. I ate more than I should, and ate things I shouldn't have. But for the last 2 weeks I have really been back on track, and still nothing! I got down to 1 tenth away from my goal, then will gain a pound again. I went back to the basics, and started tracking all my food intake. I am staying between 900-1100 calories per day, drinking lots of Water, at least 80 grams of Protein per day, staying under my limits for carbs and sugar. I just don't know what I am doing wrong? I know my exercise specialist said this was to be expected at this stage, and it happens to everyone. He said you wont see a loss for awhile, but you are still losing inches. And it will cycle back and forth every month. He said to only worry if I don't see a loss for 2 months in a row. But I'm getting close to that 2 month mark, and still no loss. Any ideas on how to break a massive stall? Here's my food for the last 2 days, any advice? Breakfast: 2 envelopes sugar free hot cocoa 1 dannon light and fit greek yogurt Lunch: 1/2 cup raw carrots 1/4 cup raw snap peas 1/4 cup hummus Snack: Isopure Protein shake Dinner: 4 ritz crackers 2 tablespoons Peanut Butter 1/4 cup cottage cheese Totals: Calories: 927 Carbs 32 Fat 32 Protein 93 Sugar 30 Breakfast: Sugar free Cappuccino Tomato juice Dannon light and fit greek yogurt Snack: Isopure protein shake Lunch: Grilled shrimp greek olives and feta Dinner: Grilled Mahi Mahi cooked carrots and snow peas Calories: 959 Carbs 66 Fat 23 Protein 120 Sugar 40 -
Hi...I am a naturopath and I am sure that gas is probably due to similar food than when unbanded, but perhaps a bit more abundant Beano helps and now they sell it in little strips that dissolve in your mouth...take it right before a meal...not after. here are foods to avoid if you have too much gas, you might be sensitive or intolerant to it....dairy(milk, cheese) you hopefully can eat yougurt which will help but make sure it is good yogurt with no sugar in it. Yogurt made with goast or sheep milk is worth the price and you get used to the slightly different taste. Add stevia and a little fruit or squeeze a lemon and stevia and stir and it is lke eating a lemon moouse! Avoid artificial sweetners since they give you gas and are not good for you anyway. Use stevia instead. Avoid chewing gum. You might want to see if you have a problem with wheat and gluten...the majority of people do and don't know it. Some people are sensitive to soy. Beans, broccolli, and cauliflower need to be cooked very well especially with the band. Well this is it for now...I hope it helps!

IMHO, no, mashed potatoes shouldn't be used. Here's my logic: Yogurt and pudding are basically just a liquid that has been "stiffened" and will become liquid just as soon as it hits your internal heat. Applesauce is mostly Water, both from the juice of the fruit and from the cooking process. There are very little actual solids and they are still mostly water. Mashed potatoes, while of a similar consistency, have more solids in them. There is simply not a way to cook potatoes long enough for them to be essentially water. The purpose of such limited solids in your diet is to keep your stomach from contracting as it has to digest them. With the stomach having been stitched over you band, you really want to avoid having your stomach contract and pull on those stitches. Now, all that being said...EVERY doctor and diet is different. My suggestion would be to ask your doctors office before doing it. Don't try it just because others have been permitted to eat them at this point. I know that it is frustrating, but one more week of sacrifice will seem like nothing at all once you have lost your first post-op 20#! Hang in there

Keep on plugging you will get there! I eat: Breakfast - either - one package of oatmeal mixed with fat free yogurt or egg beater omelet( 2 or 3 servings of beaters) with one slice fat free cheese and some veggies or a few fake bacon bits in it. Lunch- usually a protein shake with strawberries skim milk and Bariatric (sp?) Advantage or Unjury. - Sometimes no berries but ice cubes, instant coffee and sweet & low. Dinner - lean protein and veggies Snack- one bag of 100 calorie popcorn, Two 60 calorie string cheese and two 25 calorie diet hot chocolate. Also vitamins, water & ice tea. I eat about 1000-1200 calories per day and about 80 grams of protein. This keeps me full all day. Hope this helps

Please Post Your Pre-Op Shopping List.

From reading great advice on this forum I made a list of these items & gathered in preparation........ :-) bariatric Protein powder (I like the fusion chocolate mousse) & some pre-made Protein drinks for quick & easy grabs GasX (sounds like the gas afterwards for a few days is quite painful) Nexium (ditto on the acid) liquid Tylenol (to use after the dr's liquid painkiller has finished it's job) lots of gatorade, s/f Jello, Water bottles chewable bariatric Vitamins (again the Fusion isn't bad...the mixed berry looks a bit intimidating but is relatively easy to chew up and swallow...my dr advised 2 of those a day for always after.) pill crusher (this is a cool little thing I found at WM which crushes any non-chewable pills you have to take) low cal/lactose free yogurt of course my chapstick! that's all I can remember at the moment! Best of luck! I go in tomorrow morning............(feels like the first day of school when you were a kid!) -
head hunger is really a hard thing to combat. even when your band is getting filled. your band will only do so much. have good Protein bars or Snacks that are less than 110 calories. make them chocolate if you need to. have a banana and Peanut Butter. STAY AWAY FROM THE VENDING MACHINE! and dunkin donuts. even when you reach the green zone you will have to deal with head hunger. you have to decide now that it is more important to control your brain than to have it control you. only some ppl have complete non eating issues with hunger, in fact i only know of one on this site. baking chocolate is only 1/2 the sugar as regular chocolate. melted with some nuts for protein and a piece or 2 of that will be better for you than a snicker bar, my favorite candy bar by the way.which is full of butter fat and sugar. have cottage cheese with fruit or tomatoes. have a greek yogurt. have a smoothie. watch how much you drink of the smoothie. satisfy your hunger but be creative and keep it as healthy as you can. enjoy your foods but a snack should only be 110 and less twice a day. eat more protein at your meal times. add a bit of fat to your meals to help keep you satisfied afterwards. i can only type this because i deal with hunger too! gained 3 lbs last month. so even though i am getting close to the green zone i still deal with hunger. but i have made a vow that i will win this battle. you need to say that to yourself too.

Premier protein shakes, mini light baby bell cheese, Outshine sugar free Popsicles (so much better tasting than the others), salt and vinegar blue diamond almonds, berries, tzatziki sauce, fage 2% Greek yogurt, chicken tortilla soup (homemade), Costco rotisserie chicken, protein hot chocolate with sugar free mint syrup added. Tazo wild orange herbal tea. -
I love Greek Yogurt. I buy plain 0% and add in either fresh fruit, low fat granola or surger free spread. I cannot eat it plain but it is a great source of protein.
