One month has passed since my last post, and I've calmed down and regrouped, I have my last two appointments this week. Once I get those over with my doctor should be able to submit the paperwork. It seems opposite of what is usually done but maybe it's because there are two insurances to go through. one won't pay for the band but will pay for tests and consults. Whatever, I will go with the flow... can't wait for the week to be over!!

I just got back from meeting with the psych guy. It actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. He basically wanted to see how extensive I had done my research. He wanted to know what would happen during the surgery and what I should expect afterward. He took down some information about my family and wanted to know why I wanted to have WLS. It was kind of like talking to your grandfather. He really put me at ease. Next week I have to see him with my hubby so he can basically make sure I have a great support system at home. I know my hubby is a great supporter of anything that will help me gain a healthier lifestyle. I'm not so worried about that.

i was really really sick... couldnt work out for over 2 weeks and am just starting to get back into the swing of things. my work life has been very good. i have been promoted to a job i have dreamed about for quite some time and it's been 3 days. i am SO overwhelmed, but its a good overwhelmed if that makes any sense at all. i posted pictures in the before / after page. i will be uploading them to losing-jusme as soon as i can. i had my 3rd fill last week, i am up to 9 cc and i think i may be at my sweet spot. i do have to learn to stop testing the band. she is a fickle bitch... not sure when i will be able to post again, things are just way too hectic in my home/job life.

Keep drinking your water, It may be a bit to early for the gym. at that stage I was eating a lot of Egg Drop Soup, (High Protein) Just stick to it, these first few weeks are a big time for weight loss and adjusting to the band. Do not rush it ( YOU WILL EAT AGAIN!) Trust me, I wish someone had told me that in the beginning. You may be hungry so try to keep hydrated and go to the Chinese take out and try the Egg Drop Soup! Can only drink liquids 7 days after my fill....HELP
ziggledog replied to Jordangirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sounds to me like you're a bit too tight. I've become committed to the idea that this process should not be torture - if the weight loss takes a bit longer, so be it. I want to eat normal normal portions of normal foods - so far so good. I cup per meal, 4 meals per day, has gotten me down exactly 1 lb per week since 4/26/10 (began @ 236, BMI 37). If I eat too quickly or don't chew, I throw up. Happens maybe once per week - more frequently right after a fill. Not that this process should be fun, but it shouldn't be torture. Fills are trial and error - its not a failure if your band is too tight. It happens. Get some Fluid removed, follow the rules, go easy on yourself. Hope that helps. Good luck! -
What Was Your Post Op Diet Like?
tattoozombie replied to Leederz's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Well at first no lifting so buy a resistance band with like 20-30lbs resistance then this puts no strain on your abdomen while getting a jumpstart on leg and arm strength..after a two month low weight and olyptical cardio for a total of an hr a day weekends off unless your pumped to do more cardeo but no muscle on the weekends.. move in month two to a core and leg heavy weight ontop of your 30min cardeo total of 30min cardeo and 1hr. muscle workout legs heavy once a week and core like back and lats.. take it slow going up in weight like 5lbs every 2-3 weeks fill the other three days with arms and chest. these are big groups of the bodys largest muscles you work them hard once a week and they take three days to repair.. so three days of high speed metabolism gets things rocking. sore at first i warn you.. leg squats and weighted lunges will put it on you also the core of your back will be slow to get built up but you will love what you see in weight loss. when you start in month 3 to get heavy at the gym make sure you eat some kind of complex carbs along with your protien shakes this is key to building bigger muscles and as simple as wheat thins and cheese a few times a day as a snack also I eat alot of penuts almonds and pistachios. But keep your focus more on water and low carb low sugar also good multivitamins as much as possible.. and get a good protien shake.. Myofusion is the best for the money online 5lbs 35$. thats 64 shakes less than 65cent no one can beat that. Trust me i bought alot of crap like vitaluss and others that were half as good for tripple the cost. those shakes were my best investment along with alot of good green teas hot tea and splenda early on..feel free to ask me as much as you want i will post pictures on profile maybe tonight.. -
whether you drink Protein shakes or not for the rest of your life really is up to you. Once your stomach heals, what you put in it is going to be up to you. If you can eat enough protein in regular food, then you shouldn't ever need to drink a Protein shake again. I would think somewhere between 60-90 grams of protein a day would be where you would want to be. At least that's what I'll be shooting for - it depends on your activity level, etc I think as well. I'm only 4 days out from surgery so I can't really tell you what I'm able to tolerate yet. Today I've had some broth and Water and some popsicles. I don't feel hungry at all. On friday, I'm going to move to thicker liquids since i'll be a week out. Protein Shakes and maybe some creamy Soups. Looking forward to that. It will be good to have a bit more flavor in the mouth. My husband always tries to sneak off to eat - but I tell him its okay - he can eat in front of me - it doesn't bother me. My only limit is no sardines because the thought makes me nauseous haha. Pre-op was another story - he couldn't eat in front of me because i was hungry haha.

My surgery was 2008, 2009 saw me hit my ideal weight and 2010 saw me injur my back and gain a few pounds to lose over again in 2011. Other than my sciatic having this surgery has been a major force in improving my health. I've had one cold in the 24 months. So how do I start 2011? With my first attack of the flu. The wierd part is I wouldn't have known it wasn't the flu if my wife hadn't the same symptoms a week ago. Initially I thought I had torn a stomach muscle as the pain on my stomach was pretty intense. A heating pad was the only thing that helped. It got so bad I was starting to have ideas that ny port had torn loose or was infected. I'm not a hypocondriac normally, but this pain was intense. Finally when I vomited I decided it was just the flu. But in 51 years I've never had a flu with such pain. I just thought I'd relate it.

Feeling Discouraged!
cori0278 replied to dontmissout86's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Soover, don't let the hunger deter you. I have been on liquids for 2 weeks prior to surgery and then it could be as long as 3 weeks after. The nurses all say it is in my head. I am hungry and don't feel much restriction but when I start eating, I definately can not take in much. I have resorted to drinking lots of water btwn meals. I have not did much, but a few days I have over did and that was worse than anything. I don't recommend going to the mall the day after surgery even if you have someone pushing you in a wheelchair. -
Feeling Discouraged!
BLUEZBANDIT replied to dontmissout86's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi again it's me Bluez, Just while you people are complaining about your liquid diets, leave a thought for me. My doc has me on liquids for 4 weeks. I am not complaining as I figure its only 4 weeks and 8 weeks of mushies out of my life. I am setting my body up for success by doing the right thing. If on the rare occasions I feel hungry, I play a mind game with myself and imagine my hungry body eating by big fat butt. lol it works for me! -
We've all been there. It certainly does get depressing at points. For myself I was still on liquids at two weeks out and ended up back in the hospital for another 16 days after that. So I was on liquids for about two months. And for 14 of the 16 days back in the hospital I only had food and most liquids through my iv. It was also hard for me to move onto the other stages of puréed and then soft foods. I finally got back to real food at about 3 months out. As far as other people eating in front of me..I just couldn't handle it! If hey wanted fast food they couldn't have it around me. Obviously I was very selfish with that, but ultimately it saved some of my sanity. Feeling bigger after surgery is normally due to all the iv fluids they push in you at the hospital. I felt like I was gonna pop the first and second time I came home. Hang in there the journey gets much better. I'm 4 1/2 months out and would do it all over again even with the complications. Saw my Dr. yesterday and got the results from a blood draw last week. My A-1C(blood sugar average for 3 months) was down to 6.9. It had been 7.7 last year, 7.2 early this year, and 7.1, 4 months ago. That doesn't sound remarkable, except all of the 7 numbers was when I was taking 120 units of insulin and 2000 mg. of Metformin a day. The 6.9 has been since I have been taking 10 units or less a day and no Metformin at all....1/12 the dose. My good cholesterol was up (40) and my bad cholesterol was down (62) and my dosage of the statin drug has dropped to 1/2 the regular dose every other day (so 1/4th of what I was taking). I didn't have any idea what my results would be........but I am sure one happy camper. The VSG did what I wanted it to. I also had been plateauing between 190-192 and yesterday that was broken as well as I hit 189. Which makes my weight loss at 47 pounds on the sleeve and 98 total. I am re-enthused!!!:P:P:P:P:P:P:P

Memoirs of a Streatched Pouch...
KSWAN replied to banded_for_life's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, this is my first posting. I was banded Thursday 4/6/06 after a year of researching. I am now a BMI of 29 (was 31 last week). I am very glad of the questions and answers on this site as I am sure I will have many and at least now I know where to go to find the answer. First question, as I am in 1 week post op, can I have sugar free fudgesicle or will this cause enlargement as well. Is this really a liquid if eaten prpewrly? I have hung tight to broth and jello and apple juice, but was getting sick of that and needed a little something. Also, should I still have shoulder pain? I am taking tylenol but about every 6 hours it comes back. Nothing too bad just alarming. I am also walking treadmill at lowest .09 (lol) speed about 4 times a day for 5-10 minutes. I appreciate any and all answers, this was a scary but positive step for me. Godd luck and God Bless all of you.... -
I had several nights of weird dreams the first week. Really bizarre stuff. I chalked it up to my sleep being off and being woken up at the hospital at all hours for things (they did 4 a.m. blood draws). I don't have them anymore.

Pickiest of eaters!
Shells_Almost_There replied to Swampyspouse's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't know if any of this will be helpful, but during this stage, I stuck with 2 Premier Protein shakes per day (to get higher protein numbers and it counts as liquids), plus I ate refried Beans (mushed up and chewed to liquid) and Laughing Cow cheese wedges. On rough days, I had 3 Premier shakes to get my 90 grams the easy way. When I wanted flavor, I had my Better Than Bouillon cup of broth, or I'd go to Panera for chicken noodle Soup and eat only the broth. From time to time, I would have instant mashed potatoes with a little bit of chicken gravy. It tasted so good and went down easily. I am an uber-picky eater as well, so this is what got me through. I would not eat pureed meat or baby food. I don't like yogurt and can barely stand pudding. Also, I hate the taste of whey, and only the Premier Protein Shakes taste good to me. So, I was very limited too, and sort of mixed the full liquids and pureed stage into something I could handle for that 2 week period. I absolutely do not think he should move to the next stage early - follow the doctor's plan to a "T." His huge staple line is healing and you don't want him to do anything that could cause a problem during these early weeks. As my surgeon explained to me, these are the crucial healing weeks - it is not about weight loss right now, it's about healing properly - since the "harm" could be damaging the staple line. But, as always, check with the doctor before deviating even a bit from the program that is outlined. Hang in there! ETA: Also, during these early weeks it's rare to feel hunger - I was super bored which made me want to eat, but I didn't actually feel like I needed to eat. And of course, this is how we get dehydrated and end up back in the hospital. It's such a balancing act - for 2 months I couldn't seem to get in my daily Water requirement and even now I sometimes miss it and feel so dry. Hunger does return but those first weeks are just regulating oneself to the new circumstances and the new stomach! -
Pickiest of eaters!

I'm glad you're here looking for suggestions for your husband. Unless I missed it, I'm not sure what surgery he actually had. I had the band and that's where I'm coming from.... First off, he really needs to follow his doctors orders. They definitely suck and get tiring but his surgeon felt they were important for a reason. I had two weeks of liquid and two weeks of mushies. I could not stand it when my meat was puréed to oblivion but I could eat it if it was pulsed to a pulp. There was still some texture but it was very well blended. I'm a texture eater and pure puréed made me gag. With all that being said, there are some people on here that their surgeons didn't give them much restriction / limited diet post op. So they were eating solid foods very quickly post op. I don't recommend it, but after reading those people I did cheat a bit and had a few Snacks I wasn't supposed to but it was the holidays. Again, I strongly suggest that he follows his doctors orders, but if he absolutely must deviate he needs to be very very careful. Take extremely small bites and chew it till it's mush. You really don't want to risk something getting stuck and throwing up so shortly after surgery. He really needs time to heal. Even if he's feeling ok, he shouldn't push it. Plus he might have more boredom hunger as someone else mentioned and it might not be real hunger. Have him drink fluids slowly and see if that helps. This phase will be over soon. -
Hey I too have twins. They r three and my reason too. I developed some medical issues while pregnant with them and thought I wasn't even going to be around for them, that scared me. Since then I've been trying all I can and then I found out some coworkers had WLS done and I was like this may be an option. After extensive research I'm very comfortable and confident with this option. This forum is amazing too. I don't post as often as I'd like, but just reading others comments are wonderful. I wish u luck and congrats in the twins. They can be such a handful, but can't imagine it any other way

I would stop drinking the Gatorade and tomato juice. I know that acid from tomato juice is can irritate the stomach. At 8 weeks, I still can't handle Gatorade, something to do with the sweeteners they use. I could only drink Crystal Light lemonade the 1st week, without stomach gas or painful grumblings. I was able to drink bottles of the the premixed EAS carb control chocolate I got at Wal-Mart. I really didn't eat anything else the 1st 7 days. I was in a lot of discomfort the whole time and didn't want anything to eat.

has anyone had Optifast to affect their cycle. I've been on for about a week and a half I never go for more than 5 days. and I don't mean to be gross but now I have clots I saw on youtube that Optifast can affect your cycle. only 1 other time some years ago I was on for a month and had the clots and had to go to the ER, I use to be on the Nuvaring for heavy flow, but I stopped using it. any suggestions or should I just wait a while my surgery date is October eighth and I don't want anything to get in the way of that by the way I still have 3 1/2 more weeks of a Optifast to do.

Alex- The more I think about it, the more I think you are right. It does take extra effort to carry around the fat, but it doesn't do much else. I agree that 1600 calories makes more sense than 2000. Plus, I'm one of those loosers who is eeking out a pound a week so I'm probably better off keeping calories down if I want to make my goal for the family reunion. This is the first time I've set a weight goal for myself and it's kind of unnerving. There is just so much we can't control about it. I'm going to do my best, though. Thanks for your help!! Megan

I'm going on 4 weeks out of surgery. I was doing good loosing weight and I lost 24# in 2 1/2 weeks and now I've been stuck there and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I don't eat much I'm still on pureed foods till this weekend and I drink about 32 oz of water if I drink more I get so full I don't eat at all. I just got the ok for physical activity so I'm starting the gym tomorrow. I'm going on over 1 week of the same weight and it's depressing.

So I got a call last week and it was my surgeons nurse saying that my surgery is scheduled for the 17th - At the moment I'm happy but not excited, it's kinda like he's basically told me that I've won $5 in a raffle you know lol but I know as the date gets closer I'll be more nervous. It's kind of annoying though, my hospital has basically been screwing me around since december last year but because I'm not paying for anything to do with surgery I felt like I couldn't say anything otherwise they'd say "hey your bitching too much, we're not gonna do it" lol. But the other annoying part is I haven't done anything really like to do with friends or anything and a friend of mine's wedding is on the 14th so that's kind of annoying and then my 21st in on the 23rd soo yeah that's a bummer - not that I would of have a huge celebration anyway but still it kinda sucks lol. So I told my family that I'm going to turn 20 again this year and turn 21 next year - It'll just make things easier. So who else is scheduled for the 17th? :cursing:

About a month and a half ago, I had to get some fluid out of the band. I was not able to eat or drink and was vomiting. I felt so much better, as an unfill will do. Well, last week I suddenly started to get sick again any time I ate or drank. The first unfill was triggered by vomiting from a migraine, which irritated the band. Last week, I have NO clue what caused it. I woke up one morning and my shake made me sick. It was downhill from there. Two days later, I was making an emergency trip for another unfill on a Saturday. That was 2 days ago. When he first took some of the fluid out, I felt relief. I was able to drink 3 cups of water with no problem. It felt awesome. Cut to yesterday, a day later. I was back to all things except water making me sick. It doesn't matter if it's a shake or applesauce or mashed potatoes. Everything immediately gives me pain in my check and makes me vomit. Back to the doctor I go tomorrow, and I have a feeling I will end up getting more fluid out. I am almost 2 years post-op and this is the most issues I have ever had. I had 2 unfills last year but once I got them, I was doing great. I have no clue what is going on right now. Has anyone gone through anything like this? I am so utterly frustrated right now.
