I had a tread on emotions as well, I am 2 weeks post op and have been struggling with this as well, it's all of the hormones that are being released after surgery through fat loss and all of the changes we are going through. I had few days when I cried for no reason either.. It gets better hang in there

Hi everyone, I'm Gena and I'm still kinda new to this forum, even though I registered a while ago. I found this forum when I first started to check everything out about being banded about a year ago. But I decided to try 1 more diet before I did anything more. So I went on the Atkins Diet in April of 2007 and stay on it till the end of Feb. of 2008. I lost around 40 to 50 lbs till October, then from November to Feburary I wasn't losing anything. I kept telling myself that I was in a slump and I'll start losing again, but nothing. So on Feb. 23rd I stopped the diet and I have made an appt. with Dr. Clark in Ellis Hospital to go to the orientation for the lapband( before I gain the weight back). I need this, about 14yrs ago I had to have a hip replacement due to a car accident and it was only suppose to last 10 years, then I was to need of a new one. I am overdue and I have gained alot of weight through the years. I can't wait till I go to the appt. April 10th but I'm really nervous that I might not be able to have this surgery, I've been told that the Ins. Co. won't pay for the lapband but they will pay for the bypass and I will not have the bypass. I really can't afford to take a loan for it. I just found out last week that there is a woman from work that is being band on April 7th. She doesn't know if the Ins. will cover it. So I was wondering if I could get any info, if anyone has any? If I get my Hip surgeon involved does anyone think it will help with the Ins.?

Two Weeks Since Surgery
txrdnk903 replied to txrdnk903's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I totally understand Phat Curves... Personal stuff in my life as well.. The stall on weight loss is making it even worse. Only down 9.4 lbs since May 21st.. Was hoping for more results... I'm constantly tired no matter what I do... This burning in my throat in cheast are constant and its irritating... Glad you had more results with lap band.. Lord knows I didn't.. I feel better just knowing its out of me... I am like you.. Able to eat stuff, but just small portions... I watch my sugar and fat intake and still not getting the results I'm wanting... Hope it gets better!!! -
Well I had my lap band removed and my sleeve surgery May 21st and since the surgery I lost 12 pounds. Now that I have started introducing more foods into me I have already GAINED 4 pounds back. I am constantly tired "work 8 hours a day and have a two year old" I walk every evening and I watch my fat and sugar intake like my Dr told me to do. I haven't gotten my vitamins started yet hopefully today I can go pick them up. Any suggestions on what to take? Any advice on the gaining? HELP!! Very discouraged after all I've been though with the band not working and now I'm discouraged with this :thumbup1:

My "sweet spot" became my "sour spot"
marfar7 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Before my 3rd fill about 8 weeks ago, I had only lost 10 lbs since Oct 1. Since my 3rd fill, I've lost 13 lbs. I was definately getting restriction and vomiting a bit.But the last couple of weeks, I don't feel that uncomfortable full feeling at all anymore. When I went in for my 4th fill, about 2 weeks ago, he would't give me one because #1: I'm vomiting too much. He's afraid if he puts more in, I won't be able totolerate anything ad #2. I already have 9cc in a 14 cc band and if he puts more in, there won't be any room for chage once the fat around my stomach comes off and my band becomes too loose. I agree with him then, but now I'm back (almost) to where I was before that "sweet spot" hit. I'm not feeling full, not getting stuck as much and not losing well. I emailed my nurse and asked her if I can have another fill, still awaiting her reply. My ?: If I already have 9cc in a 14cc band, and I have to keep gettin more and more fills, I'm afraid that it'll be filled as far as they can go and there won't be any room left. So when I finally do lose the fat around my stomach, there won't be ay room left to tighten it. Any ideas? Marci -
Body By Vi shake before surgery what about after?
staceyhearn79 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a week to go before I join the band family . I'm drinkin well I've been drinkin Body By Vi for awhile now so I kept on it for my liquid diet as well. The way I make it is in the blender an add ice so it ends up bein a pretty big serving. I know I can't have it the same way after surgery. So what I'm woundering is who else uses this and what has been some ways you have used it after being banded. Thanks -
I was sleeved on December 20, so I am just over two weeks out. While I knew I would feel better over time with my weight loss, I have been so thrilled with the unexpected immediate benefit of waking up with hope. I think all of us here know all about self-loathing. For years now, I have awoken each morning feeling disgusted with myself and hopeless for change. The pain and shame of being fat has prevented me from doing so many things. Knowing how the world views a fat person has not helped, it has made me terrified of putting myself in a position to be judged by my weight. Although I haven't lost too much yet, and in fact am in a weight loss mini-stall just two weeks out, the one thing I noticed from day one after surgery is that I wake up each day with HOPE. I no longer feel that the rest of my life will be an endless struggle of starving to lose a few pounds, and then gaining it back with one wrong move. Repeat, repeat, repeat. That has been my life for years now. I know I will have to work at this for the rest of my life, and I will have to be careful not to sabotage my new tool, but until this surgery, I cannot remember the last time I woke up with hope and optimism instead of the first thought of the day being about just another day of being fat.

May 10 sleever San Antonio
helenpgh replied to lauriefromtexas's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If I eat too quickly or take too large of a bite of food it is uncomfortable. Also certain food seem to bother me like the ribs of leaf lettuce or a small piece of toasted wheat bagel that I tried last week. Couldn't eat tuna for the first many weeks either but now not a problem. Soft foods are still tolerated the most easily. People heal at different rates I guess. I am also 12 weeks out and down 40 lbs. -
Any Jacksonville FL folks?!
*susan* replied to 2Legit2Quit's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey there, just wanted to drop in and welcome you to LBT! I was banded by Dr. Herrera in 2006. In terms of Dr. Herrera, he is amazing. I recently had a bit of a run-in with his office staff that left a very bad taste in my mouth. I met Dr. Baptista for the first time today. I was referred to him for some separate issues I am having, non band-related. Actually, I was quite impressed with him and his staff. I have been having a great deal of medical issues for the past few weeks, and he spent close to an hour with me today trying to find the cause and really listening to me. I have not met Dr. Cywes, but have heard very good things about him. I hear he can be a bit rough around the edges, but is an excellent doctor. -
I am going back Monday, which will be a week, and will be on fuller liquids. I was on full liquids pre-op, so I plan on doing pretty much the same things. Protein drink for Breakfast, some Soup for lunch, another Protein Drink for snack around 3 or 4. It worked pretty efficiantly pre-op.

So after a week out of work and the fact that I have a desk job Im hoping to go back to work next week. I want to be prepared for my week and since I will be able to start having runny veg Soups and Protein shakes etc this is what I have done: I boiled different veggies and pureed them and portioned them off and froze them. I intend to take one with me to work everyday and just heat some Water with maggi and dissolve the veg puree in it to make a Soup. I bought the Naturals whey Protein powder from Dr Nutrition. So I got the vanilla and chocolate so I could have two scoops. I put half of both powders in sandwich bags and one scoop plus a litre of nonfat milk, small bottle of manuka honey. I will also bring some fruits and veggies for the shakes to try diff. Mixtures. I will buy a small toy blender I saw at the toy store that runs on batteries to take to work with me so I can blend my shakes. Thats all I have thought of so far. Any help is appreciated. So my doc clarified that when i can go on to pureed food...i cannot have starches...they want to maximize weight loss in the beginning...it seems that most other places do their stages differently...most of u have had mashed pot since the beginning it seems...i guess its good b.c i will shed some more weight...just trying to come up with other food ideas...my question is have any of you put tuna or chix salad in the blender? is that totally gross? Also, i do puree for a week, then the next week is a "transition" week where i still puree but add more texture..or fork mash things...after that stage i go to regular foods....i am scared that i will be starving b.c right now i feel hungry...and i know i can do nothing about it till my fill at my 6 week checkup...i feel like i will be one of those who lap band doesnt help...im paranoid...i feel like i couldnt possibly be NOT hungry, if that makes any sense...since i feel it now...please tell me that i will have the will to control my hunger b4 my fill, and tell me that my fill will restrict?!?!

What are my options? Band has been gone for 2 years.
Renee Marie replied to Lora's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi, I had my band for about 2 years. It slipped once and I had it put back in place. It slipped a second time and I experienced the same obstruction your talking about. I couldnt even swallow water without vomiting. I waited to go to the hospital and tried to live with the slpiped band for several weeks because like you I LOVED MY BAND.Finally I went to the hospital with dehydration and a potassium level of 2.8.They took it out and would not put in another one. Its amazing what one will do to keep the safety blanket of the sleeve. The band allowed me to lose over 80lbs and my weight was 145lbs for over a year and a half. I put on 30 lbs in 8 months without the band. After 8 months without my band I had gastric sleeve surgery. That was 2 weeks ago. I was 174lbs the day of my surgery and I am 157lbs now. Before the band I started off weighing 218lbs. I cant say its come easy though. I have had a very hard time with the liquids and for almost two weeks I have felt absolutely exhausted. The incision site hurt more than with the sleeve but that makes sense because its a much more invasive surgery. The last 2 days however, I feel better. I'm eating small amounts of food like cheerios that I chew very well. Today I has 1/4 of a slice of pizza chewed really really well. With the band I couldnt eat any bread without it making me vomit within a few seconds.I used to go to the bathroom about 3 or 4 times to throw up when I went out to eat with my family. Remember with the band the way you throw up alot and that feeling you get when you eat too much like your having chest pain and it doesnt go away until you vomit? Well there is none of that with the sleeve. If I eat too much now my stomach hurts and I get diarrhea instead. They say there are no foods you cant eat with the sleeve you just cant eat more than a few ounces. So far that seems to be the case. I hope this helps. After the band I went to the sleeve because I just cant keep my weight down on my own even after adopting better eating habits with the band. Its only been days but so far so good. -
Drinking & Eating & Alcohol
Fanny Adams replied to Me1e's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The "no drinking" rule is mostly so that you don't wash the food through your band quickly and end up hungry again soon afterwards. Having a glass of wine with dinner on occasion shouldn't be a problem, but if you find yourself snacking when you get home because you are hungry again, you should probably rethink drinking with meals. Also, as you get good restriction, you may find that drinking anything while eating is actually difficult - I am finding this now. I tend to have a little sip of Water just after a meal to wash my mouth out, but drinking anything more than that can lead to PBing  All things in moderation is the name of the game! One of the benefits that I have found is that my tolerances for alcohol have GREATLY reduced. One or two glasses of wine over the full course of the evening is the most I can manage now without getting really tipsy, whereas previously I could easily knock off the bottle on my own - yay for cheap highs! Be really really careful in a "drinking session with the girlfriends" though - the alcohol does hit you much faster and you can easily overdo it before you realise it. The LAST thing you need is to end up with your head in the toilet bowl throwing up; that is a HUGE no-no! I had a glass of wine on Xmas Day, which was 2 weeks after surgery. -
I had my surgery on 7/14, have had 2 fills since and I am scheduled to go back on 9/23, I was having a problem where everytime I ate I vomited, I was getting scared so I called and went today and they removed 1cc and gave me some ideas of things to try as they want me to stop vomiting. I have lost 47 lbs but 22 of that was my 2 week preop diet but they tell me I am doing great, I lost 7 lbs this past week because of the vomiting and they said that is not the way to do it. I walk between 3-5 miles a day and bowl 1 night a week for my exercise. It does get better.

I share in your frustration! I was banded 08/18/08 and I lost 12 pounds on the liquid pre-op diet and 11 pounds the first week after surgery. I have gained a couple of that back. I am also walking 30-45 minutes a day and the scales aren't moving! I have no advice or help to offer but I wanted you to know that you are not in this alone! I'm not giving up! Hang in there!

Newbie!: Dr Lopez & Osuna or Dr Perez stories?
megamoma replied to RellaBelle's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I had my sleeve done by Dr. Lopez in PV on 6/14/14. It was great. Everything went better than I had expected. I had very little gas pain and was out walking on the beach 2 days after surgery! I flew from Little Rock, AR to Houston, TX to Puerto Vallarta for $467 a ticket round trip. I'm 3 weeks out and so far so good! -
FEELING THE PRESSURE
1poundatatime replied to Chris Stewart's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been working hard at tracking exactly what I eat and I've trying to eat lots of Protein and minimal carbs. My surgery is a week after yours. I'm supposed to lose 5% - so 13 lbs - and am down 8 in just two weeks! I want to make as many healthy changes pre-op as I can! Good luck to you!! -
My NUT told me that some people (mostly women) lose weight as if they are stepping down stairs (lose and then stay the same for a bit, then lose and then stay the same for a bit). Others lose like walking down a ramp (basically lose the same amount on average every week). For some reason this picture made perfect sense to me and has stuck in my head. I am for sure a stair stepper and it drives me nuts but I keep telling myself that it doesn't matter if you are stepping down stairs or walking down a ramp you'll eventually get to the bottom So it may not be a true stall but maybe just the flat part of the step. Hang in there!!

Kathy: I just wanted you to know that I'm doing very well today. I never got gas pains and I haven't even needed to take any pain meds for the sore muscle pain I am experiencing. I do need help every once in a while to get out of bed, or the tub but otherwise these simple actions are getting easier. The incisions are very small. I also wanted to let you know that I dreaded the Heparin injections that they give you to prevent blood clots (they inject you in the abdomen) but all three were painless because they are given subcutaneous not intramuscular. I'm already eating cream of wheat, pudding and cream soups, so i don't feel hungry at all. I hope everything goes this easy for you too.

Hi there. I have been doing my research on this site since January. I decided to schedule an appt with the surgeon in Feb, had my psych eval and sleep study in March and finally was approved. My primary ins. United Healthcare denied the request because there is an exclusion in the contract, but.. my secondary, Tricare Prime came through for me like I expected they would. I have an appt next week for my second visit with the surgeon, and at that time we will set a surgery date.
