Oh no, my surgeon is on board. He wants to do the revision. It's all about the insurance and whether they will approve it. I've seen several posts on here that said their insurance said the revision wasn't medically necessary. That would be a nightmare! All of these appts, time and money just to be heartbroken. Best of luck to you and my hubby on May 2!!!

I'm 33. I had my initial RNY at 22. I lost 150 pounds. I started at 375. And then I found out the day after my surgery my doctor was out of business because he lost his medical insurance. I followed up with another doctor after and found my pouch was too big. I was devastated to say the least. Over the last 10 years I went almost back to my original weight. I had a revision at 350 done in April of 2015. I've lost 100-ish pounds since then. But now I'm stuck again. I live in Dallas, TX. Been through a divorce right before my revision. I'm engaged but I feel bad for my fiancé. He tries so hard not to show that my weight bothers him. He loves me unconditionally but I want to be the girl he deserves. Starting Monday I'm doing a 10 day pouch reset diet. Has anyone done one of these before. As for exercise I'm getting back into 1 hour a day on the wii fit and my Apple Watch say I burn around 400 calories in the hour. All in all I'm 250 I was to lose another 100 pounds to be not only a better looking girl for my soon to be husband. But also happier and healthier for myself. Any tips or advice are welcome from all. Looking forward to getting the help and support I didn't get the first time. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

My band came out and was revised same day

It could be insurance thing but my doctor also did if my stomach looked "angry" he wouldn't do revision. Just had two week post op visit I'm down 16 Better than going up! Sent from my XT1254 using the BariatricPal App -
Hi Jeannie! I am in the same boat... have lost 20 lbs in the first couple weeks after revision to bypass, and only another 1-2 lbs the last week or so. I am one month out today. It looks like you went on to lost another 41 lbs in the next 2 months or so, is that right? That is super encouraging! I just started regular foods today, so I am hoping that jump starts my weight loss again. Did you notice anything that you did that helped yours start up again after the stall?

Lapband / Gastric Bypass
sammy246 replied to journey2befit's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you're unsure you should really talk to your surgeon. It's a personal choice based on your circumstances and surgeon recommendations. That being said, I personally would not go with the band. The people who do not have issues long term seem to be the exception, not the rule. All WLS will only succeed with compliance to your plan, however I've heard too many horror stories about the band and listened to my surgeon when he said that they are phasing them out almost everywhere due to the complications (most not related to compliance, like having the material fuse to liver and organs and slipping/erosion.) the sheer amount of revisions and maintenance necessary was enough to tip the scales for me as well. On top of that I know people who have struggled to get a revision to bypass or sleeve because insurance does not want to cover a second surgery. I'm not knocking anyone who chooses the band, these are my personal opinions and personal recommendations from my surgeon who does not band people any longer for ethical reasons. Good luck in whatever you choose!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
GERD after Revision! Please help!
kimdlawson06 replied to joeyangel99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello. I had a revision on 11/5 and my GERD went away immediately. I’ve had a few instances where I felt slight heartburn but it went away quickly. -
I had my original surgery in June of 2002. The first 6 months were a breeze. My problems started right after my first fill in Dec. 2002 and haven't stopped yet!!! After my first fill, I developed a nasty staff infection that was treated for 4 months unsuccsessfully. My Dr. decided to remove the port but left the band and tubing. After healing, 6 weeks, I go back for minor surgery and have the port put back in. Two days after surgery I am back for a "unfil". Its seems my Dr. put in a full 3cc's during surgery!! Up to that point the most I had was 1.75. I couldn't even swqallow saliva. He couldn't hit the port so its off to xray we go. After much manipulation he claims he hit the port and took some out, and I stupidly believed him and went on my merry way. Well, About a week later I'm again feeling almost no restriction, and I call his office only to be told that he is away for a family emergency. I waited. I call 2 weeks later to be told that Dr. has RESIGNED!!!!! I want to pull my hair out now!!!! I am referred to a Dr. that doesn't talk my insurance, so I get on the internet to begin my search for a new Dr. I find Dr Valin in New Haven, about 45 drive for me, get an appointment for Aug, 2003, and wait. The appoinment day comes, new doc can't hit the port, sets up a fluro for 2 weeks later, I wait. That date comes, and of course, under the fluro I see I see what the Dr and techs see, the saline is just leaking out into the surrounding tissue. Guess what? Its leaking!!! NO KIDDING!!!! I can see that. Dr. says I need a revision go back up to my office to make my appt for surgery, first available date is 6 WEEKS yup another game of hurry up and WAIT!!!! My surgery day comes, Surgery is no problem. Dr. tells my not only was my original equipment leaking, my port was flipped, and the tubing had pulled away from the port. All of this damage was done by the original attempt under fluro to get my "unfill". The radiologist at the original fill told me that he saw the gap in the tubing but said nothing, NICE!!!! So now I am all fixed, thankfully, but I am still not losing. This new Dr. started me with 1.75cc which is standard for him. I have been back twice for fills. He now has a PA do fills, which is no problem, but she is instructed to only give .25cc's at a time. She can see by the scale that I am not losing, in fact I've gained about 2 lbs. I called the office to tell them that I need more and the message from the doctor was to " have some control of myself and what I'm eating "and I have to wait 6-8 weeks for another fill. So, can you sense my frustration???? Additionally, I have to travel 45 mins for this stinking little fill and 45 minutes back only to watch the scale not move. I have had the band for a total of 21 months now and it has only worked properly for 7 of those months. I have ony lost 67-73 lbs depending on what day I weigh in. I have been the same weight, withina few lbs for a year now and I am FED UP!!!! Any thoughts??? thanks for listening, sorry I was so long winded

Which band did you get on your revision? are you too tight to eat properly and healthy? if you are consuming too little calories that can cause just as many problems as eating too many calories... do you work out? are you drinking your calories? please return a response with a normal day .. what you eat and what you do...

I got my lapband remove 3 days ago. I will be having my revision surgery in about 2months. My doctor wants me to get the sleeve and at the beginning I was up to it, but asked some friends that had the gastric bypass and are doing great and had lost a lot of weight. Now I'm so confused. Don't really know which one to have.

Hello Seattle lady. I am so glad you found a doctor that is in your corner. I hope your get your revision and some relief very soon.

What to expect at surgeon appointment?
SunnyinSC replied to hauntedhideaway's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My appointment with the surgeon himself, we just went over the surgery. He mentioned which type he'd recommend given my weight and co-morbidities. Then he went over what the surgery itself involved and asked if I had any other questions. Was very short and to the point. Now, that same day I also spoke with a nurse and dietician. The nurse asked some more probing questions about my acid reflux and ended up ordering an endoscopy since I was self-pay (and therefore couldn't afford revision if I got sleeve and it made things worse). We also went over pre and post-op expectations, as well as what to expect during the hospital stay. -
Lap Band Port to be removed on January 5th-2011. Will await Sleeve surgery...soon

What about multiple "fix" surgeries is Non Invasive? I ask that to anyone who says the band is Non Invasive. That is a load of crappola!!! The band is plenty invasive and I believe in enough time everyone's bands will need to be removed/replaced - etc. Also, the revision to a new band is certain failure. I've yet to see one person where it works a second time around, even if the first time the band worked great. Congrats to you on getting your sleeve (very soon). You will be super happy and sooo glad to be rid of that band. I'm a convert too!! I have NEVER BEEN HAPPIER!!! All the very best to you in the future months. -
Reoccurring theme here, why is my surgery best? I'm not trying to start WWIII here but just curious, in a non-hostile, in your face, you suck and I'm right, you're wrong kinda way, why did YOU pick YOUR surgery? They've all got pros and cons, but what tipped the scales for you? I keep hearing 'I don't want a foreign body in me' 'I don't want 85% of my perfectly healthy stomach cut out' 'I don't want my guts rerouted or malabsorption' but what did it for you, what made you comfortable with your choice? Keep in mind I'm a failed band with revision to RNY so you're not trying to sell it to me. I'll start. I started with a band simply because it seemed like an easy and less drastic surgery. It seemed simple. (And really, surgery and recovery were). Had the band and I gotten along it woulda been awesome!!!! But, sadly, we didn't. I had so many complications and so much misery, when it prolapsed I got to choose sleeve or RNY (my doc won't revise a prolapsed band to another band, plus, in the end it had started to erode so repeat band was off the table). The determining factor for me between sleeve and RNY was simply reflux/GERD risk. I had horrible reflux with my band, even when it was empty. Like waking up at night with acid coming out my nose type reflux. It was miserable and the thought that the sleeve might possibly give me any reflux at all was enough to sway me. (And who knows, not everyone has GERD with the sleeve, I might have been fine, but the thought terrified me).

Food is the only solution to hunger-nothing else!
Collegegang77 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum but wanted to provide a little help with coping strategies in getting through this process. I was sleeved 5/20 at Stanford hospital in Palo Alto, Ca. I was a band to sleeve revision. Band was placed in 2010 and I suffered for two years not losing much weight. During my time with the band i sought therapy and even had to go into treatment for an eating disorder. I felt hopeless since losing almost no weight and spiraled out of control with binging and purging and diet pills. I Decided to have my band removed in 2012 and start personal training. Trained for 6mos lost 10-12lbs and some body fat and decided after suffering from depression and medical complications i would move forward with another procedure. So here I am 15 days post op My doc cleared me to began a regular diet after losing 12lbs post-op and 5 pre-op so 17lbs as of 11 days post op. (keep in mind he's a world renown surgeon) he was concern about my weight loss moving to fast as I don't have a huge amount to lose. Pre-op 213 Surgery Day- 208 CW- 194....so here my thoughts. Although I have been cleared to eat I'm not ready so I'm working slowly on getting in my Protein and Water. I decided to purchase a few books on the importance of clean eating, obesity related medical problems, and a journal. As I began feeling "cravings" I started reading and journaling more and more. And this has been a HUGE help!! Learning about what I have done to my old body and the seeing how I have the opportunity to start over now helps me in managing how I will eat with this new tummy I also journal everything I'm feeling, physical changes I'm experiencing, etc. I actually bought the journal before surgery and began to keep notes the weekend before. I wrote down the hospital name, doctor, time, date, etc. the next day I wrote who was present during my surgery (husband/family) why I choose to have the surgery and what I was feeling. I plan to use the journal as a reminder for myself, even years from now, of my painful/life changing journey. I work in mental health and provide counseling services on a daily basis but it wasn't until I began to use the coping strategies that I teach to my clients for myself that I was able to see things differently. food is no longer an option for coping! It's prayer, god, and reading that is my strength. Hope this helps as I know it's a I difficult process as I too am struggling with it all but remind yourself why you sought the change in the first place. -
No Weight Lost Since Dec. 27 Sleeve -- A Little Concerned
Helen the Cat replied to CCWriter's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
CC, try not to get discouraged! Weight loss happens at a different rate for everybody. Some days I will adhere to my eating plan exactly, and the next day I will have gained a half pound or a pound. Then there are days when I eat like I know I should NOT, and the next day, I have lost a pound and a half! I can not make sense out of it, so I just try very hard to adhere to my eating plan and not come down to hard on myself when I fall off a little bit. I noticed a weight loss immediately after I got home from the surgery, but didn't see my clothes getting bigger on me. In fact, I went almost two months before I noticed that I had to adjust the size of clothing I was wearing! I began to think that all my weight loss was in my fingers (my rings were loose) and feet (my shoes were loose). Then all of a sudden, everything started to look REALLY loose. So, don't get to caught up in numbers or sizes (although I have to admit, I LOVE to say, 'I wear a size 8"), or whatever. Stay on your eating plan (the one you surgeon recommended) and concentrate on walking and increasing your exercise a little. I was living in California immediately after my surgery, and I started swimming laps about three weeks after my surgery. I swam all summer, and in additon to feeling great after my swims, it was an exercise that didn't load my joints (my knees hurt too sometimes, and I had a hop replacement 15 years ago and probably need to have it revised soon), so was pretty painless, but still a good aerobic workout. (If walking bothers your knees, try swimming.) Best of luck to you! Keep us posted! -
Last Leg of the Journey
catwoman7 replied to angeliquita's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you couldn't eat as much in the beginning because your stomach was swollen from the surgery. You can still lose weight with your stomach its current size - I'm still losing weight and I'm 19 months out. As you've found it, it just slows down quite a bit. I doubt you'd be able to find a surgeon willing to do a revision at six months out, anyway. It's never a good idea to compare yourself to others (like your aunt is trying to do with you). People lose at all different rates due to a variety of factors - age, gender, starting weight, metabolism, whether or not they lost a lot of weight pre-surgery, how much muscle mass they have, etc. And our ideal weights are all individual as well - depending on age, gender, bone density, how much muscle mass we have, frame size, etc. I weigh 150 lbs - near the top of the normal BMI range for my height, but I'm so bony my ribs show. My doctor said I can quit losing weight any time... Are you sticking to your plan and weighing/measuring and logging everything you eat? If not, do it. If you are, then just have patience. Your body may not be done losing weight yet. -
I have been denied coverage of my revision of lab band to sleeve. I have been researching Mexico options for self-pay. My husband prefer that I stay in the US, because of after care. Has anyone used a US doctor for a revision that gave a good price for self-pay patients. I will travel anywhere in the US. Thanks for any information! Heather

Hmmm thats a bit different- feeling full
smiles_so_luvly posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So, I am 5 weeks out of bypass revision. I feel great (a little stall, but I hear thats normal and I am not worried). I am happy. Just an observation, I dont get that full feeling as fast as I did like the original, the delayed fullness is weird. Me and the Dr. have talked about it and I understand why. I have had one hick up with overeating and that sh*t was painful for a good 45 mins. How are you managing this change if you are experiencing it at all? -
Getting past the gatekeeper

I can't believe how much run around some offices are giving y'all! I have my "first" appointment with my surgeon today for revision purposes. Albeit, I'm not a new patient at this office, I want to share how this office works. Yesterday, the patient coordinator called me to let me know what my insurance requires as far as how many visitis, etc., and what costs I'll be responsible for. She said that the way things look right now, I could possibly be scheduled for surgery by the end of March or early April. -
Hi! I'm a female in my 50's. I had my first lap band surgery in Dec. 2008. I did well for about 6-8 months and lost about 50 + lbs. Then I got something stuck and threw up quite a bit. I think that is when the band slipped. My Doc decided to unfill a little at a time and it took 6 months to decide to take an upper GI and confirm the slippage. June 2010 is when I had the second surgery (revision). My Doc was a little agressive with the fills and I have been playing "fill --unfill" for the last few months. I have not lost but about 20 more pounds since the second surgery. I have support group meetings with my surgical group but they are just once a month and I need more interaction. I would love to "talk" with another bandster........ Pattie (not quite as fattie)

Slower To No Weight Loss :(
samsmom replied to rizabonita's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Janet53, please try to keep a positive outlook! Your stall will pass! Some stalls are longer than others. I have not read of anyone else who has had a stall as long as mine tho! I know mine had nothing to do with overeating becuz my new stomach can't hold much anyways! I was also doing my 30 minutes of daily exercise as well. Personally, i decided to quit weighing myself daily...i was getting too depressed. My Dr and Nut had no suggestions or clues to why my wl stopped. This website has helped me understand wls more and also reading other people's stories/journies gave me inspiration and much needed info. My stall stopped several weeks ago when I got sick with the flu/sinus infection....dropped 6 lbs right away....i think my illness helped jumpstart my stall...within a week and half, I dropped total 10 lbs. Fill your mind with positive thoughts...put "stall" in the search box and read thru other forums...it really did help me get a more postive attitude. I mean, I was ready to ask my surgeon to do a RNY revision...that's how bad I was feeling! Antoher positive thought: with a slow weight loss (like me), you don't have to worry about sagging skin so much. -
Can anyone feel there port, or see it sticking out?
mousecrazy replied to banded 11/4/04's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can feel it, and when more of the fat is gone, I imagine it will stick out a little...I'm not planning on baring my midriff, so it shouldn't be much of a problem. My niece's port really does stick out, noticeably. She younger, and might wear a two piece swimsuit, so it bothers her. I'll see her tonight and tell her about the port revision option. Cindy -
Roux En Y After Lapband
raquelrdgz replied to goldenmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Omg, I'm NOT alone I have the lap band and I was doing great (sw 230) then I got pregnant got my band unfilled and well now I've gained it all back well, I'm at 210, my baby is 2 now. My band has a slight slip, I can't get anymore fills and I can't get under 200lbs:( so I'm waiting on an approval from bcbs of AL to see if they'll cover my revision. I'm so anxious to get this done and be back on my way to my goal weight, it's like starting all over and I feel like a loser cause I have family (who are all thin, btw) saying stuff like I should give up, I already tried to be skinny I'm not built that way and what if this fails but I'm not giving up! -
I am a month post op. I am a revision from sleeve to RNY. The first week I lost 18 pounds. Absolutely nothing since. I have actually gained 2 pounds of that back with no reason to. I am now on regular foods and do everything I can to get Protein in with foods. I cannot drink the shakes because they make me sick. I have given up everything as I needed to. I eat chicken, fish, Beans, Greek yogurt, turkey, vegetables and little fruits. I drink Water only. I feel like this has failed me. I feel like I am doing everything I am supposed to. This is a true 3 week stall after only being a month out. I have measured and my measurements haven't changed during this time either. With a 2 pound gain. Help!!!
