  1. That's great! when this first happened to me I had no clue and started to panic! Thanks to this website I found others had experience the same symptons and I understood what was going on with your band being to tight. Now, I only get fills about every 8-10 weeks usually about 1- 1.5 ccs at a time since I can not take too much fluid. I'm glad your feeling alot better. I'm down from a size 16-9 and 44lbs down and 25lbs to go since being banded in Nov. Good Luck!
  2. Statistically, this is the time when regain happens. The ability to eat a lot more at this point is also common. The hard reality is that it's really up to us, at this point. I am also coming to the same realization. I am going to need to increase my diligence and really watch it, or I'm going to gain. I also have not gotten all the way goal (within 5-10 pounds and had plastics) so I don't have any wiggle room. My surgeon does not do revisions for regain. His coordinator openly said that at the last support meeting, stating that if you didn't do what you needed to do to keep weight off, a second surgery probably isn't the answer. He had also told me previously that they are finding areas of ballooning in sleeves which is probably the reason capacity increases, though there is no evidence to support that it causes gain, and the risk is higher, so not worth an unknown benefit. I always knew regain was possible. What I didn't know is how EASY it would be. I thought you'd have to really be going out of your way to eat wrong, way too much, etc. My harsh truth is that it only takes a little indiscretion, for a very short time, or those pounds pack on. Every veteran sleever I know who has regained says it's harder to get it off the second time, also a disappointing thought. However, I do know what it takes to lose the weight and maintain it, so that's what I've got to do. I saw some statistics @AlexBrecher posted, and I think it said revisions accounted for about 11% of all WLS. It didn't say what the revisions were. So while my surgeon doesn't support that, obviously, it is being done. I suspect some of those numbers are band to sleeve, or sleeve to RNY for complications. To answer your question - I'd be trying to go back to basics before I would undertake another major risky surgery to combat a regain of 20 pounds. You know what to do, you've done it before. Good luck to you.

    What do husbands think

Good topic, I have wanted to talk about this. I have a very loving husband who loves me just the way I am. He doesn't want me to have this surgery but won't stop me. I honestly don't know why he feels this negative about it. I think he just wishes I could do it on my own. You know, if you don't have the problem it is hard to understand kind of thing. I feel really bad that he is not supportive, but not enough to cancell my surgery July 14th. I told him I also wished I was one of the 1% who could lose significant amount of weight and keep it off. That if it was as easy as eating a little less and exercising a little more, I'd have done it and kept it off YEARS ago. I too wish I didn't need to have a device planted in my internal organs to achieve what has escaped me my whole life, but this is the best option out there. I am 42 years old now, if I don't do it now, when am I going to do it. I told him that I feel I will be a healthier person down 90 pounds. I have heart disease and diabetes in the family. But still, it hurts me that my life partner wishes I would cancel. I have been with him since I was 18 years old. Really, he has seen me struggle an gain, struggle and gain. That is what is hurting my health. I have just gotten progressively heavier with each child and now as I enter premenopause, it is getting even harder. I hope he comes around. PS, my dh 'fights' with about 10 - 20 pounds. He seems to lose it as easy as giving up a few beers and playing hockey a few more times. So I guess he thinks that if I took exercise more seriously, I could control my weight better.

    Sleeve Fantasy Football Anyone?

Ok. The draft is Wednesday September 3rd at 10:45pm. We currently have 6 teams and 2 pending. I changed the name to Sleevers United because some folks from ObesityHelp may join. Sleevers United sounds kinda cheesy, so if you think of a better name please let me know. I appreciate and accept all input...positive or negative. I want our league to be an open forum.
  9. Had band since 11/08. Fluid in, fluid out, little loss. Had 2 ugi with little dialation 3 years ago. Decided to get it out this year. Saw a different physician due to insurance. Had another ugi. Didn't see anything wrong but lower abdominal erosions due to H. pylori. Scheduled for lap removal of band and revision to rny 10/22. Start preop diet monday. Preop testing 10/17.
  10. If it would help anyone, in my blog, I chronicled the first 10 days. You'll see what we went through. It's on www.sleevers.wordpress.com under Pre-op. My surgery was 8/2 so you can start reading from that date.
  11. I am on day 6. As others have said, I cry a lot. From pain, from frustration, from watching my family eat real food that doesn't make them cry out in pain after one babyspoon bite. I know it will get better and that I won't always spend every waking moment praying for death. Even taking pain medicine hurts. Today must be the dreaded gas in the shoulders day. It is kinda nice that something other than my tummy hurts......but I will be happy when nothing hurts. I haven't weighed in a few days. Last time I did I was down a total of 19 lbs. I was only 2 lbs away from the 200s for the first time in forever! Hang in there guys.....it can't get any worse!

    Ugh

Im 2 months out an Ive lost 30 lbs. I HOPE to lose 10 lbs this month to get me at 40. I think your loss is awesome! Keep it up!
  14. WOw!!! Thank you EVERYONE!! I honestly didn't expect to get responses so quickly. Im sooo fresh to this I haven't even gotten my insurance card in the mail yet. (My husband and I just garried Friday and we sent in our insurance paperwork) However, the enrollment packet did say in plain black and white that it does cover bariatric surgery. Now I understand that's pretty broad so should I still call and see if the sleeve itself is covered? Also, I have SO many other questions...I haven't had a PCP in about 10 years besides my latest which was only for prenatal care. (I had my son in Oct) Also, having just had a child, will that disqualify me? Ive had obesity issues for basically my entire life. Also, My mother has a Lap band and told me Im better off going straight to the Dr. because getting through insurance and getting questions answered is usually pretty hard to do. Will I need previous proof of health issues? I have family history or diabetes and heart problems. Im honestly just trying to feel out the play field first before I even get my hopes up! Im afraid Ill be turned down. And again thank you all so much for your speedy responses.
  15. I would not get a band. Had one and revised to a sleeve. Bands are very hard, everything under the sun affects restriction, complications are very high, and in three years of posting on message boards I have never met anyone banded for 10 years or more. I don't think many keep them for 10 years. We hear about these people but I have yet to meet one even on message boards. Sleeves are easier, far easier than banding. Complications are low, weight loss is better and faster, people are happier with sleeves than they are bands. BTW, welcome to the forum!
  16. Welcome to the the site. I had surgery on 6/12 and was back to work on 6/19. Only restriction is not to lift anything more than 15 lbs. You should be able to get your sleeve and attend the wedding no problem. You're up and moving within 2-3 hours of your surgery and the more you move the better you feel.

    Lazy Folks

Here it talks about fatness vs fitness http://todayiwill.com/2010/01/fitness-vs-fatness-diet-vs-exercise-for-weight-loss-2/#.UEGTK5R5t3o But i also must mention that i would not consider myself lazy even without your typical workout routine. I work horses daily and have a job that keeps me on my feet 8-10 hrs a day. Before surgery i could easy run up several flights of stairs without being winded. My NUT actually told me I could cut back to the lower Protein requirements if I wanted to lose some of my muscle to not be so "bulky." (Her body mass thingy put me in the OVER category for muscle mass) I laughed and told her no thank you I will keep all the muscle i can. So it truly comes down to how "Lazy" you are talking. I have low pulse and blood pressure and absolutely no comorbidities. But I am active in my everyday life. I will choose to add some exercise plans as i go. But to answer the original question... yes you probably can lose the weight you want with diet alone. But don't expect to feel your best or look your best. And there are things to do besides the typical gym exercise routines...
  18. I've had 2 breast surgerys 10 years apart and both times my body rejected the stitches. The incisions would have puss and the stitches would pop through for weeks they wouldn't heal until they were all out. I feel like a trained nurse now. Also when I was younger my eyebrow ring & belly button ring pushed out ... I'm worried my body will try and reject the staples as they're a foreign object?! Is that silly to think??

    Not sure what to expect

Did you doc give you a prescription for a proton pump inhibitor? Some mornings I will wake up with a burning feeling in my tummy that I confused with hunger in the beginning. I found if I take an acid reducer, I felt better and that feeling went away. As for feeling full...You are still very early out, you may not be able to tell "full" yet, I couldn't and wasn't able to do for a few weeks. If you stop before the ache you're probably doing OK. My signals for full can vary - my nose might run, or a I do a hiccup/burp thing, or I feel a jab in my stomach. At 10 weeks out, I try not to eat to that point of being full. I try to eat to the point of getting rid of my hunger, rather than feeling full.

    Stressed to the max !

Was banded at cibo clinic in 2012 , lost 50 pounds everything great ..then the clinic closes leaving everyone to fend for themselves unless I would like to pay an extra thousand dollars a year for care that my 18,000 dollars already paid for. They said drs. Anvari and Hong are still our drs. And if there's any issues they are there for us ...load of crap !!! I've been in constant pain for a little over a year ..no longer can I eat anything good for me ..only slider foods here because to eat anything else causes great pain. I have a 14 cc band with 8cc fill ..I have terrible left rib and shoulder pain , sinus issues , vomit all the time , feeling dizzy like vertigo , racing heart , but no one can find anything wrong ... I've tried numerous times as has my family Dr to get ahold of dr anvari ...no one ever calls back ...went to St joes emerge where both anvari and Hong work from ..to try to get un filled ...the emerge Dr says nope can't help you go back to where the band was placed ...explained what happened with cibo clinic and that drs anvari and Hong worked at cibo but emerge Dr still says we are not equipped to do un fills , I'm like seriously this is a bariactric hospital..so after spending 10 hrs on a few occasions in hospital no one will help me but they certainly didn't have a problem taking my 18,000 dollars to put it in .... I'm so sick and fed up with this band ...can anyone please help me or point me in the right direction.

    Cold more often ?

For the last several years I have kept my room 5-10 degrees cooler than the rest of my family's house, and my grandfather (who had a low thyroid) always kept his room insanely hot even in summer (New Jersey). I would stop going up there to see him it was so unbearable. I was sleeved 9 days ago, and I have stopped using the fan in my room, added an extra comforter, and have been doing most of my work from home in my (late) grandfather's room. My temperature set has completely flipped its field on me, and now I find myself constantly seeking out very warm spaces. It is a combination of a declining fat layer and the lack of carbs being burned up and released as heat. It is gratifying in a certain way. I think it will be far less embarrassing to ask for some heat around the Thanksgiving table rather than standing outside trying to catch drifts of cool late autumn air with everyone looking on. I think, however, that when we all move on to solids in a few months, our sleeves will be doing heavier lifting than they are able to do right now, and that process generates a lot of heat. I don't expect my current obsession with warmth to last all that long, even with (hopefully) drastically reduced insulation from adipose tissue.

    How restricted is your sleeve?

Thats good to hear. Because the way i feel, i want as much restraint as possible. How far out are you? Sent From Galaxy Note 5 using the BariatricPal App I'm only a month and 10 days out. I revised from the band to the sleeve on June 7th.

    Cruise "Mocktails"

An elegant cruise is wonderful. Fine dining, Three meals a day, in the really nice restaurants. Avoid Carnivall because they cater to kids free, so families take 10 kids and the buffet area is the nightmare. My husband and I get a nice room with a balcony, and spend lots of time reading, talking, and relaxing with the beautiful ocean view. The Oceana and Norwegian met our every need as far as not being a floating all you can eat disaster.
  25. I am currently in the six months medical supervised diet per my insurance. I started at 217 lbs. BMI is around 40. I’m 4’11” and 200 lbs. I figure to expect about a 10 pound preop diet weight loss which would put me at 190. My question to myself is constantly, “Is it worth getting permanent surgery to lose an additional 70 lbs?” I’ve tried dieting before and failed, gained more weight. I have diabetes and sleep apnea. I’m on weight loss meds from my doc. I feel like that’s the only reason I’m losing weight. This keeps me up at night. Do I pursue the surgery or just continue to follow this weight loss doc and hope for the best?
