My doc had me on 4 weeks of liquids post op, every doctor is different. He even had me do 2 weeks liquids after fills. I think the most weight i lost was the 4 weeks post op because of the liquids! Keep going though, let us know if you survive!

    Encouraging Myself

58 pounds in 8 weeks??? Wow! You are doing amazing, and you're looking great. I know you must be sonorous of yourself.
  3. I am not sure why, but it seems as though since I have been on a stall I have been avoiding talking about my surgery at all. I feel like a failure, like this was the last avenue for weight loss and I have messed this up as well. I have not been back to the clinic to see the surgeon since the surgery and have not been in to see the nutritionist either. Before the surgery I was able to eat far more than I do now, so I know that the surgery was successful in limiting my food intake, although it was not as much as I would have liked. I would have preferred having about half of the volume capabilities as I currently have. I take full responsibility for not making the correct food choices and choosing to eat unhealthy items such as zebra cakes and Popsicle and things that I can eat without filling me up very much and are packed full of sugars. Before the surgery, I would have chosen an extra entree as opposed to anything sweet. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes before the surgery as well, but for some reason after the surgery I have craved sweets like cakes and Cookies, things I never would have wanted before. Those that know about me getting the surgery were very praising after I first got it and when the stall started at first they would ask me how it was going, but now they kind of don't mention it, which I am grateful for because it would make it even worse knowing that I was disappointing them as well. I honestly do not know where to go from here anymore, if I should even bother working on dieting anymore, or if should just continue with sticking at the weight I am. I am scared that eventually I will start packing on the pounds again. My lowest since the surgery was 303 and right now I am at 310. I dunno, I just feel lost....

    Food....

I was sleeved 12/22. I've had such a hard beginning including not being able to get my Protein in, having a hard time getting Water in, and couldn't get my Vitamins in without vomiting. I had to have a 1 week post Op appointment due to not feeling good at all. I was put on carafate 4 times daily, an acid reflux medication, and an anti-nausea medication. I lost 17 pounds the 1st week because I was very dehydrated and couldn't do anything about it. My Dr said if I waited until after the weekend I would've been in the ER for dehydration. I started eating more ice and trying to get some type of protein in for the 2nd week after surgery. I ate more popsicles. The 2 week appointment went a lot better and I was released for pureed and soft foods for 2 weeks. I just finished my 1st week of the soft foods. I absolutely HATE food!! I seem to only be able to eat fish and shrimp. I've eaten chicken and I don't really like it too much. I've eaten pork, not too good either. I am sitting here after eating chili and I wish I didn't even have to eat that. I am still very dehydrated. I started work again last Thursday and I was a mess. Last Friday when I worked I didn't pee not once!! I'm there for over 8 hours. My urine is orange almost all day. I feel weak. I feel nauseous. I tey to get the carafate in but I get really sick from it. I've talked to my Dr numerous times but they are starting to be at a loss since it's been so hard for me. I'm just over 3 weeks in and have lost 30 pounds. Does anyone else have the same experience? I really don't want to eat at all. Is this normal? Will I feel like I want to eat ever again? TIA!!! Food....

See if you can get bags of fluids through an IV multiple times a week. If you are hydrated, it might shed light on what else can be done to get you feeling better. Check on your gallbladder, check for anything wrong in the sleeve, try different sources of protein in case there is a sensitivity... Hope you get to feeling better soon!

    Had surgery 10/28/15

I had surgery on 10/26 and I got a headache yesterday for the first time. It wasn't too bad. I'm having such difficulty getting my Water in as well. However I can say that the water is going down better today than before. Hopefully by the end of next week, I'll be able to get all 64oz in. I've been drinking the Isopure water versus the shakes I were during the pre-op.

    I'm new here :)

Hi Brooke. I'm not too far ahead of you. I have my first physician appointment scheduled for next week. I've gotten a ton of information from this site. Welcome to LBT, and good luck!

When can i eat solid foods

You will see that everyone's doctor and post op diet is different. I know it's had (I had 2 weeks of liquids, then 1 week of muchies). Drink a lot, lots of sugar free popsicles. And know that each day it will get better. You are doing great! Before you know it this will be long behind you.
  9. Yes, it feels great to be able to go down in sizes! From a size 28 to an 8/10 and 5 pounds to go. But, sadly, for me, I have become somewhat of a shopaholic (online). It is really ridiculous, especially since I am currently really only able to get to doctor's appointments and out for some quick grocery trips on Saturday. I mean, with my now extensive wardrobe, how often am I really going to wear all of these clothes? I really came to grips with my clothes buying problem a few weeks ago. Yes, it is true, food addiction can be replaced with shopping addiction, gambling, alcohol, etc, etc. Along another line, I am really pissed that I bought so many of these tops that billow out and make me look pregnant! Why did I buy them? Those are the style of clothes that I used to buy when I wanted to hide because I was so overweight. Is anyone else tired of all the billowy styles?
  10. I am a type 2 diabetic in remission since month 2 after rny. I was on insulin and oral meds prior to surgery This week I have had 3 bouts of low blood sugars hit me suddenly. The first time was while walking and I walked further than normal and it was before dinner so I thought that was why. Blood sugar was 52. 2nd was at night after getting all of my requirements in and just going to bed. Blood sugar was 51. Third was today while at the mall, so I was walking but not at a great pace and I didn't have my meter with me so I don't know the number. I carry a Protein bar with me so that helped. What am I doing wrong? I am so not used to lows!

Low Blood Sugar 3 times this week

I am a bit worried about this myself. I was a type 2 diabetic prior to surgery. I have been testing only once per day at this point which is a fasting glucose. I started out in the low 70's and this past week I am now in the 60's. I guess I should read up on this because I have had the feeling several times that my sugar is getting too low.

    blood sugar

I had diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, some acid reflux. I was off all the meds within 3 weeks after surgery (gastric bypass RNY) and haven't used them in the past year. I also had issues with frequent urination and profuse sweating. All these issues went into remission after surgery.
  13. Thanks for the reply. no one else has answered. The period has sincestopped and I dropped 17 pounds in two days. I know the six week stall had something to dop with my hormones. Thanks
  14. I had an ablation a couple years ago.....was sleeved in March. Two of the best things I've ever done for myself! I was not having periods at all prior to my surgery, but have had one every month since about 2 weeks post op. Nothing heavy, a couple of spots for a couple of days, but wasn't having any prior to being sleeved. So yeah, lots heavier than what was my normal. This month has finally tapered off a bit, and I would bet by next month I will be back to my normal. And yeah, heading towards the big 49 this year, so I'm sure the whole production thing was way past prime prior to my surgeries
  15. Thanks for the suggestions! I love the idea of rating the products on the invoice. Starting my two weeks of pre-op liquids in the AM
  16. No my husband hasn't been to my appt. I've only had one and it was a year ago. He can't go to my pre-op appt this week due to work. He is not a social guy to go to support groups, does not do computers and not really a reader so I'm super lucky he's even willing to read 1 or 2 sheets a paper. I've told him all I've learned (no binder from my doc...just a seminar and one on one with the surgeon) but he wants what he calls a 'cheat sheet' with all the important facts.

    Swollen stomach

That's normal. You still have the gas they used in your surgery in there that needs to work its way out. Make sure you walk, walk, walk and in a few days to a week you'll notice the discomfort and swelling will be gone.
  18. Flower, hope all is going well. My port has flipped too. I just found out about an hour ago!!! They want to schedule me for a revision on Tuesday, only problem is I am getting married in 2 weeks on Aug 28 and going on a cruise for my honeymoon!!! My surgeon will be back from vaca on Monday, I just want to be sure that I will be able to go swimming and stuff on the cruise. Patty

    what do you think ?

I am only one week post op and I have not lost an ounce since surgery. I lost about 13 lbs on my pre op diet (10 days prior to surgery). I feel like I am still holding on to a lot of edema and swelling from the surgery. I have to stop weighing myself everyday. I think I am going to wait one week b4 I weigh myself again..... who am I kidding. I will wake up, strip naked and get on the scale in the morning like I do every day.

    Naysayers! Blah....

I too told no one except my wife (of course). I was worried about naysayers, especially my family. My older brother and sister both had bypass surgery. My sister lost all the weight she wanted and then developed a heart condition (probably hereditary, our mom had the same thing), so she gained the weight back and has nothing but horror stories and complaints about her experience. My brother is having problems too, the bypass he had works by not only limiting the amount of food but also by malabsorption of nutrients - the "bypass" bypassed a length of his small intestine and he there could not absorb the nutrients and therefore would not gain weight by the food he ate. Well the body is adjusting and the malabsorption is no longer working, he has to severely limit his calories, which is "killing" him he says. He has bouts of hunger and struggles to keep the weight off, and SOME nutrients are still not absorbed right, he takes multiple Vitamins a day just to make up the shortfall. BTW, both spent TENS of thousands on their surgeries, which really miffs them now as they are still struggling to loose weight or at least not get any fatter. Well, long story short I didn't want anyone to talk me out of it, or worse yet try and convince my wife to try and convince ME not to do it. I spent only $5000 for self pay and so far 6+ weeks in I'm 65 lbs down and feeling pretty good. Regardless of my sad story, do what YOU feel is right, you did right by coming here as there are tons of people that are going through or went through the SAME thing you are. Keep the faith, it WILL work out.

  22. I was 1 pound off, I was 226 this morning, but I am still excited to have lost. I also have my period this week, so I figured that was the extra pound. 23. Banded on 2/29 - I also have pain in the port area - when sitting (doesn't matter if I'm wearing stretch pants or jeans) - it is sooo uncomfortable... especially when driving. Doctor said everything looked fine, just put some heat on it and give it another week or so. I'm also noticing hardness above the largest incision - is this just "healing" or did I maybe strain the area? It's tough tieing shoes and such... I'm trying to take it as easy as I can. Thanks all! P.S. dejageel - Congrats on being banded!
  24. I started my pre-op diet 2/17 and was banded on 3/3. Since 2/17 I have lost 20lbs..up until about two weeks ago. However, since 2/17 i've lost a nearly 40 inches from my body..10 inches being from the past two weeks. What gives? Anyone else experience anything similar?
