  1. Do any of you know about the iband? Where they revise the band with actually adding a sleeve effect with it? I was told here by my sugeon in Oklahoma city that all his newbies are getting the combo together. He asked me if I wanted it because I've struggled so bad. I was really surprised when I heard of the procedure. Also any of you have tricare is there co pays?? Just wondering. Thanks

    Regrets??

I'm a no regret girl. I had the band and revised to the sleeve. I am so grateful to have had this surgery and feel like I have a fighting chance at a healthy life. My best wishes whatever you decided to do...

    Anyone Have Dyspepsia? Frequent Heartburn?

I'm just under 4 weeks out from surgery and have been dealing with heartburn daily this week. I suffered from heartburn before surgery. My doctor started me on Prilosec OTC once a day in 2009 and it went away. I never had an issue anymore. My surgeon talked with me about this problem likely becoming worse after surgery and spoke about people having to revise to RNY to get rid of it. I DON'T want this to happen. I'm going to call my nurse tomorrow and tell them that the Prilosec alone is not managing it at this point. I've read on this forum about people using different combinations of PPIs to manage it. Hopefully, I can find something that works. I don't want any further surgeries, DEFINITELY not RNY.

    What Was Your Breaking Point?

I've struggled with my weight all my life. I turned 40 and was still overweight after saying I didn't want to be overweight when I hit 40. Finally had enough with high blood pressure meds and getting even bigger but so afraid of re-routing my organs. I remember seeing the commercials for it and I kept saying if there were something less evasive I would go for it...then saw an add for lapband. I went for it just before my 42 birthday. Well 6 years and a revision to a bigger band, a really bad prolaps and emergency surgery to take the band out...I was done and figured I was going to be overweight but, at least feel good. Well the big 50 is around the corner, the weight started coming back on again because the band was gone and I finally said....I just need to do this. The medical world has gained 6 more years of experience performing the RNY surgery and taking care of patients and it's become so much safer - I'M GOING FOR IT! I need help to help me stick to eating right and getting healthier. So......I want to be healthier for my 50th birthday! Started the process back up last year with the same surgeon that did my lapband but, discovered that was part of the problem...he didn't listen to me. So after going through hoops and being left on my own with them, I changed bariatric centers and started again. TOTALLY different experience and I couldn't be happier with my surgeon and the bariatric center she works in. I'm down over 40 pounds - it's coming off slow but, I know that's how my body works but, at least it's coming off and coming off healthily because I'm following the rules. The best part is I'm no longer gaining so to me that's worth it all!
  5. I was banded by Dr. Cobourn 16 months ago and for the first several fills I had Dr. Cobourn do most of my fills. Back then he only had one nurse and he was doing less band surgeries. Since then he now has at least 2 - 3 nurses, patient co-ordinator, dietician and another surgeon (Dr. Mumford) working with him and they will be adding an additional surgeon in the near future. As others have said if you specifically request an appointment with Dr. Cobourn you will get one but with the amount of expansion his clinic has had that is what the trained staff is there for. Let's face it a surgeon's time is very expensive and the nurses are skilled in doing the fills and most post-op aftercare. Dr. Cobourn like most band surgeons expertise is in the pre-op consult and most importantly the actual band surgery. Of course he is always available to deal with emergency situations or other complications that infrequently arise. Best Wishes, :ranger: Donna Lapband/06 Revised From VBG/87 251/140/125 goal

    Newbie

Welcome! This is one of the best places to find information and get support for whatever stage you are in your journey. I lived in J-ville for the last 10 years, but I am in Tampa now. However, I will still be having my surgery with Dr. Webb at North Florida Surgeons. You are so not alone here. You might wanna check on the band to sleeve revision forum on this website and maybe look up LilMissDiva and Tiffykins. They are both very successful revisions.

    Chronic vomiting

I am also having trouble with vomiting a lot. My chest hurts because of all the vomiting. I went to my doctor but they are not sure what's wrong. They did an upper GI and the doctors here have not seen a sleeve before so they are not sure what to look for. I had my surgery in Mexico and I live in upstate NY. I had a band and had it revised to a sleeve. Since then I have been tired and nauseous a lot.
  9. I did have to wait six months but it was because I had what I think was a panic attack and it landed me in the hospital checking my heart. Dr Kelly wanted to wait six months as a precaution. He said he does do revision in one surgery but he did not want to chance that the band may have caused my chest pains. He said his job is to do surgery but his first job is making sure his patients are save. He us really awesome, even though I did not like that I had to wait.

    New here... thank-you!

Keep researching. I too was considering the Lap Band, I am so happy I went with the sleeve. A very large percentage of the sleeve surgeries the surgeons perform are LAP-BAND REVISIONS. The corrosion, the slippage and people get tired of the on going maintenance that is required with all of the fills are the main reasons for the revisions.
  11. My name is Kelli, I was banded Nov 2010 in Mississauga Ontario at the Surgical Weight Loss Center. I am 28 years old, have been married for a year, and the whole reason i started this process was so that i could have a safe pregnancy and have a healthy baby! I have to say, i am well on my way. My starting weight was 319.8 lbs, and currently, i weight in at 217.8lbs. Only recently did i pass the 100lb mark! I am so happy, and proud of myself, and feel soooooo amazing! I had a complication, and port infection about 6 months ago, and had to have a port revision. Since then, its been nothing but clear skies. Hopefully it stays that way! For Christmas this year, my husband got me a gym membership and a personal trainer. Its an early present. I've been going for about 2 weeks, and am actually starting to enjoy myself while i'm there! Anyways, i would like to get to know some of my fellow Canadian Bandsters, and maybe swap ideas, and some Canadian products. So many recipes from this site have ingredients that we don't have here, so it would nice to get some new ideas!! Hope to hear from you all Kelli

    Upper GI

I'm not sure if you have to, but I did - a few years ago. At the time I was having major issues with the band and was actually hoping to find something that would provide a rationale for the insurance company to cover a revision. As above poster mentioned - it's really not bad. You sleep through it all. They did insist that I get a ride home afterwards. I think I took off the rest of the day just cause I was feeling a little woozy, but many people go right back to work.

    Scared!

I had the lap band to sleeve revision also, and it will be so great for you as it has been for me. There is nothing that I can't tolerate whereas I couldn't eat so many things with the band. With the band, I couldn't eat bread, salad, eggs, shrimp, and on and on. I think it is rare to have an intolerance to a food with the sleeve. I just had the surgery seven weeks ago and am losing about 2.4 pounds a week. You will probably lose 20 pounds the first month and 10 pounds every month after. I'm happy for you! You are doing the best thing for yourself.

Time off for 360 body lift

What is a 360 body lift... once I lose the weight I want after my revised surgery I will have to have the skin removed because I have extra sensitive skin
  15. I'm probably going to need one, way too much fluid in my band and the dr can't get it out! Since fluid goes in, but doesn't come out (and there's no leak in the band) he'll need to revise the port. If you've had one, was it a pretty easy procedure? How about recovery? I appreciate any info from your experiences! Thanks!
  16. I had a port revision due to it leaking. Very simple procedure and I was out after one hour of surgery and back home. It was very sore for the two weeks after and I did miss a couple days of work.
  17. Curious what's safe for me and what everyone else is doing? I'm 6.5 months out and feeling great except for this issue. Fruits and veggies don't seem to be cutting it. Thanks in advance! Band to sleeve revision surgery 1/16/17 HW: 283 CW: 199 GW: 160

    New to support group

Tanya, This is horrific what they have done to you. You really need to find a different doctor for a second opinion. This is the worst case of malpractice that I have ever heard of. You might need a revision surgery to fix size of stomache. I will send my prayers to you and wish only the best for you. You really should not go back to this "doctor" again. Please take care of yourself. Message me anytime, or email to emmafiona0926@gmail.com I would be happy to try to help you. Maggie
  20. Ok so my insurance company has approved the revision from band to bypass now the Dr office is talking about having a committee hearing at which time they will decide if I need more nutritionist consults, more psych evals or what. I'm pissed now because I think they are going to say I need to do more. I've already done the one year program with my insurance company which included bi weekly meetings and weight loss programs. Should I start looking for another Dr?

    Useful pre-op things?

It was instant dumping I took running &told manager healthy menus dont include brown sugar or any sugars, then I spoke w/corporate office in Lebanon , tn &they are gonna revise there healthy menus soon.
  22. How long is the surgery? hospital stay and home recovery from Sleeve to Bypass?
  23. Hi, New to the site. has anyone thought about a revision? I just did a consult with a new surgeon and started my 6 months of requirements.
  24. I've heard the same thing. I know a bandster who revised to the bypass for that exact reason. The revision resolved her reflux but also introduced a whole new set of problems. I sure wish there were a risk-free, effective WLS surgery. Or a cure for obesity.

    REGAIN AND REVISION

Trying to wrap my mind around this. You eat 1100 calories of good food (not carby or starchy), exercise and still regain 50#? What kind of exercise plan do you have going? Is your sleep good? Do you drink lots of water and keep alcohol to a min? Is it true you are eating smaller meals over that 1100 calories or not? I did not get that out of the thread unless I overlooked it. Small to me means 200-300 calories at a time which means 4-5 oz protein and perhaps 1-2 oz of veggie. What are your overall macros? Something like 50/30/20 (protein, carb, fat) or 40/30/30 or something else? If you are doing these things then Yikes. That is a scary scenario. Have you considered increasing calories? 500 below your targeted tdee will mean weight loss, but 1000 (or more) below will mean "starvation mode" and metabolic issues long term. Most of the time metabolic issues can be fixed by making calculated changes to diet, exercise and lifestyle - without something like a revision. Hormones need to be brought back into balance for proper metabolic response. I do hope you can find resolution.
