So my 1 week pre op liquid diet starts April 26th (surgery is May 3rd). Just ordered protein shakes, protein flavored water, and protein smoothies. I ordered variety packs of everything. I got Fairlife shakes (10 pack), Premier shakes (15 pack), Designer Wellness smoothies (12 pack), and Protein 2o Electrolyte protein drinks (two 12 packs). I got them all on Amazon. This might sound really odd, but even though I have my surgery date already, there was something about ordering my shakes and drinks that just made everything feel REALLY real. Does that make sense? I'm more nervous about the liquid diet than I am about the actual surgery LOL

seven lbs in two weeks is about average. I lost 16 lbs the entire first month, and I started at over 300 lbs. unless you're the size of someone on "My 600 lb Life", you're not going to drop 40 or 50 lbs the first month. Just based on hanging out on these boards for the last seven years, I'd say the average weight loss range for most of us "normal" WLS patients that first month is around 15-25 lbs. Yes - you'll find a few people who fall above or below that range, but I'd say a majority of us are somewhere in it. So at 7 lbs in two weeks, you're pretty normal... also, I don't know if you weighed yourself that first week, but a lot of leave the hospital a few lbs heavier than we did entering the hospital. It's because they pump you full of IV fluids while you're there. It can take a few days for it to work its way out of your system.

Well here I thought I only had a few things left before surgery May 3rd....wrong lol. I still have the following to complete. 1. I have to meet with the Dietician about the clear liquid diet 2 weeks before surgery 2. Diabetic education (I have Type II, controlled by limiting carbs. Im a high normal and sometimes alittle over high normal) Im on no meds 3. Need appts to meet with Pharmacy and Anesthesiologists team 4. Final appt with the Dr doing surgery 5. Need a blood test for nicotine (I havent smoked in over 21 years but still have to do it) this will be the 3rd one 6. Covid Test 2 days before surgery Anyone else have this type of schedule before surgery can be done? And here I was worried about what happens on surgery day but looks like I have other areas to complete before worrying about surgery day ha!

Sleeve with high BMI
Crisscat replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For myself I chose to do the sleeve over bypass. Mainly because I have 3 co workers who have had bypass, 2 males and 1 female. The 2 males are gaining their weight back they lost. They eat and drink pretty much what they want and are overeating again, They both went from a 4XL to XL and Im pretty sure they are both back in to a 2XL now 2 yrs post bypass. The one female coworker has had horrible hair loss (I guess I should say thinning hair) she is early 30s and has had back to back babies after her bypass. I do not believe she is back to her pre bypass weight but shes probably put 50-60 lbs back on. She just had a 3rd baby not long ago and has already scheduled to have her bypass redone or relooked at (honestly Im not sure what they do when you put alot of your weight back on) any way she has something scheduled for Nov 2022. I have another co worker who had a sleeve. She has done exceptionally well, she's lost 95-105 lbs since March of last year. Im not sure she is at her goal weight but she may be. The only thing she complained about was being hydrated enough. I guess she just couldnt get her fluids in and she battled being dehydrated alot. I know both surgery's are tools and if you dont stick to it then the above scenario's can happen. I felt the sleeve could be the best option for me. I am satisfied with my decision and am currently pending surgery in about 3 weeks. I am alittle uneasy, nervous and maybe even alittle scared but I know thats my food addict self trying to talk me out of this decision. Im holding firm and I believe I can get through it God willing, with little to no complications or problems. In the long run I know this is the best for my health. I have kids I need to be here for....so I have to succeed! -
June 2022 surgery buddies
Mariann812 replied to Jessica1024's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am probably going to be a June surgery…obviously 🙄 my preferred date of 4/11 wasn’t to be. The last day of school is June 10-ish and I’m ready to go that day. My paper work won’t be sent to Cigna for about another week. I’m leaning towards gastric bypass and I’m meeting with my surgeon next week to discuss what he thinks. I’m looking forward to reading about everyone’s experience. -
Hi everyone! I'm new here. I'm scheduled for surgery on the 2nd of May and I'll be starting my 2weeks next week. Any advice to get through this protein shake thing..tia Sent from my moto g power (2021) using BariatricPal mobile app

Post Op Stomach Injections
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to mlwoodall's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I bruise easily. I also got several lovenox injections in that area before leaving the hospital. I also ended up getting an iron infusion before discharge because my hemoglobin was a 7.1 thanks to period related anemia and surgery the same week. -

Made a monstrosity of a 3-cheese and onion quiche for dinner tonight. Ate a whole 34g before my stomach said, “yeah, maybe not.” At least I have my blended protein shake as backup. 😂🤷♀️ -
Post Op Stomach Injections
liveaboard15 replied to mlwoodall's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My hospital has the same ones. I once had to stay for 3 days before for something unrelated and that thing drove me nuts. So after the 1st night i went ahead and unplugged it from the wall. which set off some alarms lol. But they let me leave it unplugged. -
Screwed up the PreOp diet today
beginanew replied to DJ Carmickle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If we can’t stay on the 2 week liquid preop diet, how are we ever going to follow the plan post surgery? We all knew this was part of the process. STAY STRONG! We can do this. Day 2 for me only liquids for 12 more days. -
I also didnt have to do the 2 week diet before surgery Sent from my SM-A326U using BariatricPal mobile app

Slow Losers Club…..officially *sigh*
oldandtired replied to TheWeightisOvr's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Slow loser here too. But the weight does continue to come off. My surgery was on 01/11, and so far, I've lost 34 lbs. Back when I was 50, I lost 50 pounds, but it took me 2 YEARS for that! LOL at my age, I don't have the time left! My doctor wanted me to walk more, and I just giggled--it's all I can do to work 40 hours a week at a desk job, much less exercise. If you are young, you have no idea. I think he wanted me to because the weight loss is so slow. Well, the fact that the scale continues to move down is GREAT for me. I'm not hungry-I still have nausea, but I think I have found the way out of that. So not hungry--none of that "oh God, I can't think of anything else but the cookies in the break room" stuff. 34 lbs in 3 months is wonderful for me! -
I didn’t have any “food funerals” in the sense that i didn’t eat any more than i normally ate. But what i “normally” ate was probably equivalent to one big huge ongoing food funeral, lol. Nor did i go out of my way to specifically eat “special” items. I changed my eating habits on the first day of my 2 week pre-op diet, and went forward from there, that’s it.

Sharp burning pain under bellybutton
Sleeve_Me_Alone replied to Jackierojaas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is very normal. Each incision goes through skin, fat, muscle, etc. They are small, but they are VERY deep, and they take time to heal completely. Rest, use a pillow to brace for coughing/sneezing, and take meds to stay ahead of the pain if you need them. Thankfully, the pain usually subsides within a week or two. Hang in there! -

April 2022 Surgery Buddies
Vixenvic1 replied to Crinkles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all, I had my mini gastric bypass (with omega loop) on the 12th April here in Dubai where I live (originally from the UK though). Stayed one night in hospital and was discharged yesterday. Wow!! The pain! I have 3 incisions, one of them my surgeon said I had weak core muscles and he had to stitch the muscle as he didn’t think they would knit back together naturally and that this would hurt for a while. My God! Every time I move it’s awful. Im also feeling so low! Anybody else in this stage? I really am right now full of regret due to the lack of sleep, the amount of pain and just lack of energy I have. I’ve been put on one week of clear liquids so yesterday I drank some chicken bone broth which I will have again today with my electrolytes, coconut water and water. -
Slow weight loss after Revision
liveaboard15 replied to Kimsmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your first surgery was a band? then you revised it to what in 2017? and you just had bypass a few weeks ago? Are you sticking to the program? Following the diets and such? But you are just out of surgery and healing. Some people are slower than others and some loose a ton of weight quick. But as long as you stick to it and follow your programs diets and recommendation you will loose the weight. -
I am having a very slow weight loss. I had my first surgery 3/2000 and VBG revised in 2017. I gained 80 pounds and had a gastric bypass on 3/23/2022. Wondering if anyone else had these issues?

Messing up my pre-op diet 😩
Honey10604 replied to Whosthatgirl07's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the sleeve back on Feb 7th I had to cut out caffeine before the surgery. I tried to go cold turkey since I only drank 1 cup a day but I had the worst headache ever. Pain meds didn’t help so I went to 1 cup of half decaf then 3/4 cup to 1/2 then to a few sips to none at all. I did this transition 2 weeks prior to surgery. I was suppose to do 2 week liquid diet but to be honest I only did 1 week and cheated 1x in that week. I have not yet had any coffee but I have had caffeine 2x I get the matcha lemonade from Starbucks. I haven’t had any issues with it as far as my stomach but I am dehydrated some afterwards so I drink a bodyarmor lyte the next day. I want to try coffee but I am scared it may be to acidic for my stomach. -
2.5 wks post op. SLEEPY right after eating
fourmonthspreop replied to Suzypress's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3 months post op and that happened to me for a while month 2. It still happens some days but not nearly as often. I believe it's just the new digestive system and being so new post op you're in an extreme calorie deficit and your body still might be playing catch up so you get fatigued easily. Take your vitamins. Keep your protein and water intake in the green and eventually the sleepiness goes away. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Tips & tricks for the pre-op ALL LIQUID DIET!
fourmonthspreop replied to Vivis's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on reaching this stage! I found that isopure was pretty good when blended using a blender, a milk you like/tolerate, maybe some yogurt, ice and things like unsweetened cocoa powder, sugar free syrups or decaf espressos. You can make protein frappes so to speak by mixing up ingredients. In my liquid, puree and soft I did vanilla and caramel protein frappes using sugar free coffee syrups and decaf espresso. You can also mix isopure into things like yogurt and soup. Great way to get protein, 25 grams per serving and no taste. I found that post op premier and quest protein shakes were wayyyy to sweet. If I didn't blend my own shakes, I bought the chocolate ensure max because it has 30 grams and sorta kinda taste like chocolate milk. You can also blend that with ice and it makes it like a milkshake. The slim fast orange cream Low carb shake blended with ice is really yummy. Taste like fruity pebble milkshake. If you're sick of the sweet stuff, try broth make from bouillon cubes (more tasty than broth cartons). I've never had bone broth. I hear it's an acquired taste but supposedly some benefits to having it, maybe try mixing it into your regular broth for a full meaty flavor to differentiate from the sweet shakes. Anyway. That and sugar free popsicles got my through my liquid diet. It was nice to chew on something and I never want to see another popsicle again in my life LOL. I find that orange flavored popsicles caused some acid reflux but I had that pre op so it might be just me. Best of luck to you. The hardest part is getting through the first month after surgery but it goes by fast, you develop a routine and you see the scale go down so it's all worth it. I'm 3 months post op and back to regular eating. The only difference is I focus on protein, get full pretty fast and the weight actually comes off. Tips & tricks for the pre-op ALL LIQUID DIET!
Vivis posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you could go back in time and warn/educate your younger self on how to best stick to the all liquid pre-op diet, what tips and tricks would you share? My all liquid pre-op diet started today. I'm allowed: 3-4 shakes (pre-made or via protein powders) Water Clear protein waters Crystal Light mixers and such Gatorade, Vitamin Water, Propel Sugar-free gelatin Sugar-free pudding Sugar-free popsicles Light Greek yogurt Fat-free cottage cheese Broth Herbal teas ANY ADVICE/HELP IS GREATLY APPRECAITED! I feel like I can succeed, but I've always known THIS would be the hardest part of my journey. So far, these are some of the tricks I've come up with (but I'm a newbie, and I know you pro's out there have GOT TO HAVE SOME SOLID TIPS AND TRICKS!): Make your protein shakes with some light Greek yogurt to change the consistency Add bullions to your broths to add some flavor and eat them hot Try ramen and miso broths Make your own sugar-free gelatin/pudding in your own Tupperware so you can just sit there and eat that in order to confuse yourself into thinking you're eating a solid meal Tracking my food in a nutrition journal to better understand when I'm hungry/how often I'm eating Some questions I already have: What pre-made protein shakes are worth the $$$? What protein powders did you really enjoy, are not chalky, and are worth the $$$? I ended up buying 4 different protein powders from 2 brands (brands: SinFit and Motiv8). THANKS FOR ANY AND ALL HELP!- 36 replies
