Congrats!! Good luck to you too! <3 Lets stay strong -
hi, welcome. to be honest, right after surgery i wasnt hungry at all and the thought of eating / drinking made my nauseous. about 2-3 weeks later, i did get hungry and was in 'bandster hell' ... not HUNGRY, but hungrier than i thought i should be and was worried that the surgery didnt work. once i was allowed on mushies and solids, it helped, but i was still hungrier than i thought i should be. i did go in for my fills as i needed and have finally reached very good restriction (i will be banded 11 months very soon). good luck

I'm almost a week out as well and I wasn't really hungry until I see all the commercials and billboards talking about food lol. But hang in there and Congrats to what you have already accomplished so far! Sent from my LGMS550 using the BariatricPal App -
Welcome to the site! As a heads up, if you're scared you might want to look more at posts from people who are at least 2 months post-op. The first two months post-op seem to be pretty miserable (I'm in the third week right now), but after that most people tend to say it's the best thing they've ever done. Do you have a good support team? It's great that your husband worked on weight loss with you! My therapist has been invaluable dealing with the emotions of this process, so I highly recommend finding one if you haven't yet.

One week to go, I'm hoping that after nearly 40 years of dieting (unsuccessfully obviously) that I may have the solution. I feel that I have been in a battle with food for ever, and never feel full or content. I'm hoping that this will provide the answer. I don't want to be skinny just to be able to go into regular shops and buy clothes, and to be able to book to go on a plane or to the theatre without worrying if I'll manage to sit comfortably or do the belt up.

Confused about my Pre Op Diet
woo woo replied to chellede's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not really. I liked the GNC shakes a lot, the flavor was good but especially I liked them because they were thin (almost Water consistency). The thing to remember is that after surgery you are doing liquids only for so long that pretty much anything with a flavor you like is going to taste pretty good. Post op I've been switching up between the GNC and the Premier chocolate flavor pre-made shakes and then also using the unjury unflavored Protein in regular broth Soups. I'm getting ready to start week 2 of three weeks of post op liquids. I will probably be sick of everything by the end of the three weeks! -

My surgeon had me on full liquids for two weeks pre- and post-op for four weeks total. The liquids were actually no problem post-op. I had so little hunger and so little room that I felt perfectly satisfied on liquids. The transition to mushies will be a huge leap room-wise and you will fill the difference big-time. In fact, I did half-mushies half-liquids to transition over. Surgeons' requirements (which vary quite a bit) help to ensure we don't damage our sleeves and that we determine what we can tolerate slowly as the sleeve heals. If you're handling liquids easily, then ask your surgeon if you can try to transition to mushies early. Most of us have no problems transitioning, but some do. It does seem like a long time to get back to 'real food', but it's very doable. We have plenty of fat stores in our body post-op to make up for the calorie deficit. Our heads tell us otherwise, which is why we packed on so many pounds over the years. It's very tough to fight the head hunger, but for the majority of us, it became much easier post-op. I'm six months out and I'm still not back entirely on regular foods, but it's fine. I have plenty to choose from and the weight loss has been fantastic! Best of luck on your surgery and hang in there!

Surgery 11/21, not losing a lot of weight

Hi my name is Tia. I'm 25 years old and I'm a mother of two beautiful children. My daughter, Emily, who is almost six..and my son, Bryan who is four years old. I got married August 14th, 2016 to the love of my life Cody. He is a daycare teacher & I work jewelry sales in walmart. We are both slowly making steps toward bettering every aspect of our lives. Just in November I recieved my high school diploma. Just last week we discovered Cody lost over one hundred pounds since we started this journey. I had lost 78 and it's slowly going back up. He started at 450lbs even & is now at 323.7. When we started this journey two years ago it was because I was diagnosed with Lupus. My endocrinologist told me that if I didn't lose weight in a quick yet healthy way, that the Lupus would complicate my life way sooner than it had to. My husband immediately jumped on board and we started hitting the trails almost every day. We are in smaller portions and we started noticing huge differences. I felt like I was becoming a better mother because I could get in the floor and play with my kids and not feel like I was dying. I had many plateaus but suddenly I hit this one that paste longer than usual. So I went and saw my pcp and she reffered me to a nutritionist to get some advice on the right things to eat. I followed Dr. Heathers steps to a T...still stuck. So then I start changing up my exercise..still stuck. So I go back to the doctor and she did some tests and her and the endocrinologist agreed that the Lupus had begun effecting my weight loss. Lupus in some weird way was litterally fighting me on this. I was heart broken...all that hard work to avoid surgery in the first place down the toilet. So here I am..six days before surgery scared to death and praying God gives me this second chance at life. I'm so scared I'm going to mess this up and I refuse for that to happen. My babies need me..my husband needs me. So I'm thinking this was a wise step..finding a support group and talking to people dealing with the same thing. This is who I am now♡ Sent from my SM-S820L using the BariatricPal App

No Adjustment Yet
Momto3redheads replied to 4MyHealth2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I go up about 3-4 lbs the week prior to my period....so I normally don't worry about anything under 5 lbs as long as I haven't been way crazy with my eating. I do think sodium can definately affect it - make sure you are drinking plenty of Water, too, and getting LOTS of Protein in....you will be fine! Don't let the scale dictate how you feel about yourself - a few lbs isn't anything to fret over. Kim -
I'm two weeks post op and ten pounds lighter. Only 70 more to go! Does anyone have recommendations for lotions that help improve elasticity to the skin?

Hello everyone, My name is Kimberly Coyle and I am 20 years old. I got banded when I was 19 on February 4, 2011. So far I have been quite successful in not gaining any weight back. But that definitely does not mean that I have had no problems in my journey. The first two weeks before my first appointment back to the office after my surgery I had lost a total of 13-14 pounds. The first couple of months I was able to easily adjust to the new diets and routines and managed to not throw up any food or get any food stuck in my pouch. But like they say, all good things come to an end. lol It wasn't until a couple months later did I start having some problems with my band, such as food getting stuck, not being able to hold anything down, or recently having acid reflux. All of these problems were obviously fixed with me going back to the doctor's and having some Fluid drained. Now one of my biggest problems is exercise. It seems like I can exercise everyday for an hour to two hours and still not be able to lose any weight. Of course dieting goes hand in hand with the exercise, and I do admit that I don't always eat 3 times a day. As of late I've been eating only twice a day with no snacking (I know shame shame) and have maintained a busy schedule. Though I am up moving around and focusing on other things, I can't say that I am not disappointed every time I step on that scale and see that I have made no further progress. All together I have lost about 50 pounds since last year. Hurray for me! But my goal weight is to be around 140-150. At the moment I am standing at 214 and it's been on that number for as long as I remember. My surgeon was Dr. Soong, at the Weight Loss and Surgery Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. He did a beautiful job on my surgery and I have scars that are not noticeable at all, which I am very thankful for. I hope to hear back from some of you and how you're progressing as well.

By 'call the doctor' do you mean to schedule another fill? I think most wait about 3 wks between fills in the beginning. If you mean call him because you are hungry, there's nothing he can do about that....only you can handle that. This is the hardest time for a bandster.....the time between surgery and the time the restriction begins....which may take 2-3 fills...the first one rarely does anything for you but it's necessary to work up gradually. So in the meantime you have to be in charge of your life and your body and your future and eat right. By eating right I mean 1) getting in enough Protein (80-100 gr/day)....I hope you are using a good quality supplement that you like. 2)eating your protein food first ....beans, meat, eggs, etc 3) eliminating all white carbs (pasta, potatoes, corn, rice, bread)....this will keep your blood sugar on an even keel and keep the 'starving' feeling from haunting you 4) drinking at least 64 oz of liquids a day. Those eating guidelines will help control your hunger and will start the weight loss process while you are waiting for the 'band' to go to work. And if you will stay with those guidelines afterward you'll lose much faster. Best wishes and stay strong!!!

It depends on a number of things... A biggie is protein intake. Your body has to have protein to heal itself. This was a real problem for me my first week post op. I did not consume much protein at all and my incisions healed verrrryyy slooowwwly. When I moved on to full liquids though they started healing well. It took about a month for my incisions to be fully healed (no scabs). Hope that helps!

Hello again all. I have been extremely frustrated with my weight loss. I had my surgery on Feb 5 2014 so I am a little over 2 months po. The first month from the time the Dr recorded my weight until he seen me 1 month po I dropped 34 lbs. I was ecstatic. When I went in for my 2 month check I only lost 7 lbs taking me down to 226. That was on April 7. Since then I have dropped 8 lbs in the last 2 weeks. I work out at least 5 days a week doing 45 mins on my elliptical and then lifting 10 lb weights on top of it to get my arms in shape hoping some of the skin will stretch back. I eat healthy getting 60 grams of protein daily and plenty of water though sometimes I may be a few grams short on my protein and a little short on fluids. Why am I not losing more weight then I am? It just doesn't make sense to me. My Dr was upset with my at my last visit for not dropping enough weight. I see so many people hitting the 100lb mark before a year and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I plan to start tomorrow walking 4 miles a day like I was before I got the elliptical a couple weeks ago on top of everything else I'm doing. Can someone please help me or guide me so I can increase my weight loss?

I am not losing any weight preop. I have been dieting and exercising. I have been charting my meals and got a jawbone up to keep me on track. I have cut out soda and am drinking solely Water. I measure and weight everything I put into my mouth. I am getting discouraged because I have not lost anything in almost 2 weeks. In fact I have gained a pound. I just wanna cry. I have just started my journey ( month 2 of my 6 month preop) and I have only gained weight. My nutritionist says my goal calories a day should be 1800.....any ideas? I was supposed to have the sleeve done on Sept. 9, was on the very low calorie pre surgery diet, mostly shakes, bars and a few approved veggies. Was on it for 11 days, then death in family, cancelled. I have over the last few weeks developed a mild pain, turning into a sharp pain occasionally (once ever other day maybe), started the diet again last Wednesday, by Saturday I'm having sharp pain very frequent and more intense. Got into see GP on tuesday, had an ultrasound yesterday (the pain is under my ribs towards the side on my left side (up high)). Dr. said maybe spleen, maybe constipation (up so high??) Those power bars are dense and i'm having three a day. Well this morning at 5am i woke in bad pain, took a tramadol and did manage to fall back asleep. Called my gastric Dr.s office and am waiting for a reply. I guess my question is has anyone experienced this? I searched "Protein overdose' "power bar side effects" and the symptom is diareah(sp). I'm so scared i'm going to have to cancel again and I just don't want to go there, it was hard enough doing the pre surgery prep diet the second time around. Really frustrated.
