    Can you say hypocrite??

There is a support group called overeaters anonymous. Check out their website to see if it sounds interesting for you. https://oa.org Congrats on trying to get a handle on the behavior aspect. I do urge you to think big-picture with your dietary/weight goals. The average sleeve patient loses 65% of their excess weight. That would be you at 205lbs. So you actually did a bit better than average. The 10 pound "rebound" is also perfectly typical. Congrats on having a successful surgical outcome! Since your weight has been relatively steady for 9 months, you know that you are at or near your new set point. Your newly found desire to get back on the wagon is probably due to you being a few pounds above your set point, so you'll find dropping those first pounds almost effortless. Now, how does your 200lb set point affect you? Well, as much as you'll WANT to drop another 50lbs, your body won't want to, so you'll have a fight on your hands. If you want to fight, that's fine. No problem. But keep in mind that whatever you do to shed more weight, you'll need to keep it up long term. Otherwise it's just another diet like preop and back to the yoyo game. By all means.. do your pouch reset for 5 days.. but when you restart your normal diet, you need to have durability in mind.

    Emergency Stash of Protein

Jerkey and Protein bars (especially the Oh Yeah! Victory bars) are my goto's when it comes to keeping an emergency stash. I have to keep them at work, cause if I keep them around the house, it's too easy to eat them rather than cooking. :-( Get my free eBook - The Top 10 WLS Fears and How to Kick Their Butt!

    Had surgery yesterday -- help!

Oh my good grief I hate when I think like a patient and not like the (future) nurse I hope to be. Of COURSE if you have been sedentary and not cleared your lungs you are in danger of pneumonia... Do you have the incentive spirometer they gave you in the hospital? If so try using it 10 times every hour. Make sure you are walking and breathing deeply. And make sure you're drinking enough water. Take your temp, too. And call your doc tomorrow if you don't start to feel amazingly better in a few hours. Thanks to odizzydori too for remembering that!

    Being Bad.. HELP!!

Hi BetsyB I agree with what you are saying, this journey is all about making positive healthy choices but my doctor has specifically said my band is a tool to help me towards eating like a "normal" person - someone who eats a healthy moderate diet and is not obsessed by food. The reality is, if this journey was simply about good food choices then you wouldn't need a band - there is so much more at play here and for most that includes a huge emotional and psychological attachment to food so any small advances are worth celebrating - so, from a psychological perspective it is best not to beat yourself up, use every step forward as a way to build your confidence and pride because that is what helps you to make those good choices as you go along. Just as others have said, during my 10 months I have good months and bad but the good outweigh the bad and the bad days get fewer and fewer - over 100lbs lost and I know for me this has been all about my head and almost nothing about the food. Good luck everyone.

    sliming question

I've had both. If you eat something that is too big and it gets stuck right away, you start to slime right away. If I eat something that absorbs water and expands in the stomach, sometimes it hits me ten minutes to a half hour later once the food puffs and goes critical. I've never gone beyond a half hour. Usually if I'm going to slime, it happens either immediately or within 10 minutes.

    Sleeve Vs Bypass

Just wanted to chime in here! Bypass patients "typically" lose faster and a bit more excess weight. If you have 100 lbs to lose, they might lose 10 lbs more than you. I agree that it's not worth the side effects. If you have more than 250-300 lbs to lose then my suggestion would be to get the duodenal switch over the gastric bypass. It's the "sleeve" plus some malabsorption that actually FOREVER malabsorbs calories unlike the bypass that only malabsorbs calories a couple of years. However, the duodenal switch is high maintenance and you have to take a lot of Vitamins and get to the doctor probably at least every 3-6 months to make sure your vitamins are in place. However, there is one guy, who lost 350 lbs with just the sleeve alone. So people who are super super morbidly obese can actually get to a healthy BMI with some serious commitment even with the sleeve.

    Starting pre-pre-op diet today.

Well, a BIG box of Optifast shakes arrived in yesterday's post (from my eBay purchase). I also bought a box each of the choc bars, choc mousse and chicken soup.:hungry: Not really motivated to drink or eat this stuff... ...but since I spent all that money on it, and want to drop some kilos right now before surgery, I'd better start. It tastes ok, but I'm not looking forward to hunger pains and feeling depived... ...at least its only a few weeks, and the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. My work pants and jeans are both falling apart, and as I haven't any other decent clothes I fit into right now that are warm enough or suitable to wear out of the house:cry , a couple of weeks of meal replacement will do me good. I have several pairs of NEW pants hanging in the wardrobe - and all they need is just a very few kilos lost before I can wear them:) . So that's motivation to get started. So, from now until the final 2 weeks pre-op, it will be breakfast and lunch of Optifast, and a normal dinner with the family. Some days I have lunch functions, so will not Optifast at these events:hungry: . The last 2 weeks pre-op will be the full Optifast shebang.:speechles Exercise will be a minimum 30 min walk (work days), a 1 hour session of something else on the other days (walk, ride, gym or swim), or a full weekend "chores day" (gardening, laundry, cleaning etc). I must log back into fitday.com and get that log going. I got the rest of my pre-op appointments and instructions from ESV today. Appointments as follows: Sat 26/8/06, 11:15am - weight loss counsellor, Kew Thurs 31/8/06, 5:30pm - dietician group session, Mulgrave Wed 27/9/06, 8:00am - pre-admission nurse, Mulgrave Fri 29/9/06, 9:30am - specialist surgeon pre-op review, Mulgrave Thurs 5/10/06 - surgery, Mulgrave Mon 16/10/06, 3:30pm- post-op nurse review, Mulgrave Mon 23/10/06, 5:00pm - dietician group session, Mulgrave
  8. Hello all! I am 2 days Post-op and just released from the hospital today however my gas pains are not subsiding. I walk 10-12 mins every hour and I am taking simethicone to pass it but I think bc I have to "sip" my fluids I am in taking air. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to help pass the surgery gas? Afraid I'll Fail. :(

For me, it is all about the choices I make. If I eat 5 crackers, 10 minutes later, I can eat 5 more. Not a good choice, but I do allow myself a cracker or four now and again. Let's take those same crackers and add a slice of deli meat and a baby belle cheese. I can eat 4 of those and NOT eat another for at least an hour. Protein fills me up and gives me that feeling longer. It keeps me from snacking and making bad decisions.

    Diet

Picking one that fits with your personal preferences I think is best. One that frequently works well for bandsters is atkins because we already tend to cut out bread, rice, and pasta. South Beach and Mediterranean diets are also good low carb ones to try. If you're not into low carb then there's calorie counting like weight watchers or some people just like journaling and going low-fat. The lapband generally makes dieting easier so feel free to try some out and see what you like. I think the important thing is to stick with one and not try to combine them. If you're doing a low-carb diet like atkins and then decide to try doing low-fat by having a subway sub then you're in trouble because you just downed about 10 times the allowable carbs in a day. Lol.

    i am an addict....

PRE op was hard, very hard. I too started earlier than required, I was worried I would not lose the required amount in time. I was hungry, hungry, hungry. I wanted my best friend. I get angry when "someone" takes my food away, I was angry at my doctor, my nutritionist, my nurse. I too am an addict, I knew this time what was going on cause I had had the same feelings 2 years prior on some other food plan. The good news is......getting thru the PRE diet prepares you for having no real food right after surgery. For me, if I had had the operation, woke up & it was the beginning of my food restriction I would have been Desperate. Making the adjustment from all the diets we have been on, to LITERALLY one ounce of food would have sent me over the edge. I attended food groups thru my bariactric center during that month. Two ladies talked to me, I asked for their phone #'s & as hard as it was, I called them. I was embarrassed to have to do this but everything was on the line for me. I had to start learning how to manage my food addiction somewhere, so I called. They helped me by telling me how they got thru the specific problem. We had the same doctor so we had the same PRE food plan. One of the solutions was to call the doctors office, tell them how starving I was at week 2, the solution was to not reduce my food as prescribed for week 3. This helped immensely, it was also the start of working in the realm of my doctors advice & it has led me to success. Now don't get me wrong, I ate some food right before surgery that was not on plan, it was dumb & it showed me how quickly I go from compliance to out of control. My food issues since the surgery are different than before. I am following portion size, I am exercising and I don't stay home as much cause that ='s boredom which ='s eating.....if I am not careful. I have gone to about 5 support groups at my bariactric place in 8 months. I thought I would need to go weekly, biweekly, daily if necessary. For me, the fast weight loss, the endorphins from exercise, the sickness I would get if I take an extra bite has helped me stay on my path to getting to goal. I am cognitive that I must do what it takes to make this work for ME. If I started eating food with no restricted feeling in my body & I was gaining weight I would hustle in to a therapist, get a trainer for exercise, sign up for an 8 wk food plan w/ a doctors office. The 1st thing I would do is BE HONEST, tell on myself. We both know we have not been a success at weight loss & keeping it off prior to this. So far losing 100 lb's has been easy compared w/ losing 10 lb's prior to surgery. But I am on guard...that's another story. As far as PRE op, do the best you can, you sound like you are going to hit the required goal. Your stomach will be so different after the surgery u won't be dealing with the same issues. Hane you researched the enzyme ghrelin yet? If no go for it. I believe it has helped me with my success. personal message me if u would like, we can talk if you need to. Hang in there. I am VERY happy w/ my life because I am moving, living without pain. Yahooo

These were on sale, plus $10 off for signing up for text coupons, total was right at $20 each.
  14. I'm 19 days post op and the liquids are going great but pureed/soft, just started soft today, is a bit tougher. I'm getting better at recognizing being full before I'm too full. It doesn't take but 2oz/4TBS of food to feel this way. I get heartburn every evening about 7pm or so. I just chew a Rolaids and it goes away. It is difficult for me to eat but hopefully with time that will get easier. Anyone have any suggestions? I really love this site and all of you going through the same thing. It really does help me to not feel alone! Thanks to all of you!

1st fill and confused and disappointed

Lap Band's come in two sizes, 10 ml and 14 ml. So depending on which size band you have, 2.5 cc won't do much as far as restriction goes. And as far as after a fill, my surgeon only required 2 days of liquids after a fill. And I agree with Catwoman, Lap Bands are outdated due to all of the problems they cause people. So I'm confused to why surgeons are still placing them. Nonetheless, I wish you well. My Lap Band journey was a hell of a ride. Best wishes!
  18. That's why it drives me absolutely CRAZY when people make fun of impoverished people for being "fat". What people don't understand is that just because you're overweight or obese, it doesn't mean your not malnourished. Most of those people and their kids are severely malnourished because they flat out have to shop quantity (bulk rice, bread, Pasta, etc..) as opposed to quality because of income limitations. Sure, with a little budgeting and planning you can choose healthier options, but will those make several meals to tide the family over until the next check or payday? Probably not. And yes, I understand that government assistance is abused as far as what people are allowed to buy with it. But 9 times out if 10 it's just families just trying to stretch a budget the best they can with the staple foods that hopefully will make meals to last the month. That's why I hate it when people get all judgy about it.

@@Sexy-D If you go back to basics (not drinking before and after Eating) it will help. I've stuck to that exact plan and I'm down 40 lbs in 10 weeks. You can do it!
  20. My surgeon made me take two weeks off (because I wasn't "supposed" to drive). I was able to telework for those two weeks and yesterday was my first day back in the office. I have a lift restriction or 10 lbs or less. I have been lifting more that that but I am careful not to over do it.
  21. Hi all, I had my sleeve surgery March 5th 2014 with zero complications and lost 130 lbs my first year. I got pregnant 1.5 years out and gained 20 lbs during the pregnancy, and that weight came off very quickly after delivery. But unfortunately during the pregnancy my hunger came back full force, and I stretched my sleeve no doubt. My baby is 13 months old now and I feel like even though I still can't eat as much as I was once able, I am able to eat more than I am supposed to, also I am slipping calorie-wise. I was doing so well the first couple years, I had fought the head hunger to where it wasn't a problem, and now it is back. Making unhealthy eating choices, etc. I have not gained back much, 10 lbs or less, but it is noticeable (clothes are snug and overall feeling sluggish and terrible.) Those who are years out, how do you keep focused? This is a lifetime commitment and I should NOT be struggling at only 3 years out!! I feel like I need to start from square one, with Protein shakes and all that. Please any advice is much appreciated.

Day 1 of my preop diet......

It's a lot easier now than it was the first few days, but I'm over it. Ready to get this done. Surgery is on Tuesday at noon, and it can't come soon enough. As for how I'm feeling, I'm doing pretty good, just a little tired from the lack of calories. Also peeing constantly. I've lost around 8 pounds over the last 10 days.
