    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Just checking in again today my sweets. Still stuck at a 4lb loss 18 days post op and really needing my whoosh now! Am taking in about 600 calories a day and around 60g protein. Pain is getting better every day - the only time I notice it now is when I straighten up too quickly after bending over, or when I try to sleep on my side at night. Hunger was less noticeable yesterday - it has been hard, so nice to see it subsiding at last. All in all, everything going the right way, kind of apart from the weight, which has to come soon, right?? Just about to start a big Sunday roast here, which I will puree for myself. Also boiling ham for lunches (everyone else) during the week so I will use the stock to make some 'ham', lentil and veg soup for my own lunches! How has everyone's weekend been so far?
  2. Kirsten I suspect you just hit a stall at the wrong time! You've already lost 25lbs so if they need evidence that you can stick to a diet there it is! At 800 calories a day you will definitely start losing again, I really hope you see a good loss this week, sounds like you're doing amazingly.

    Bariatric Therapy

I've continued seeing my normal therapist throughout the process and she does not specialize in anything food/body related, and still found a lot of value in it. I'm trying to put my finger on what the takeaways were, but I think the things I'm processing the most that are helpful are a) body shame and b) dealing with people's reactions to my weight loss. If you can, I would probably recommend a therapist even if you can't find one that directly specializes in this area. It helps just to have someone to talk to! Something I did on my own that was really helpful: in the couple of weeks leading up to the liver reduction diet, and I had my moment where I was just eating "whatever I wanted" "for the last time," I wrote down what favorite comfort food I ate, and then briefly journaled about how I felt physically after eating it. That helped me process losing access these foods, because I realized that they would often make my stomach hurt/make me feel physically terrible right after eating all of that. It took away from the emotional power those foods had for me.

    Niggling pain.....normal or not

I would probably get it checked out! I had pain like that for the first 3 weeks ago and then never again. Hope all is well.

    Macros/calories

I'm wondering from ppl that are around 6 weeks post op...what are your macros & calories? Daily protein? Are you still losing? how many meals are you eating daily? Thanks [emoji846] Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. 1/4c at meals at 6weeks post op...I believe my nutritionist would tell u to get that to 1/2c and then to 3/4c. I think you might be consuming too few calories. I'm in the same boat. 6 weeks post op and A LOT of stalls already. Be careful with fruits. Still have lots of sugars. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Three month stall

Well I'm 6 weeks out and I hit a stall at 2, 4 & now my 6th week. Now, that's frustrating. I would look at your macros, water intake and vitamins. Calories as well. Might have to eat more calories, less or more protein. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. I'm your wls twin. I was avg. About 300-500 calories. My nutritionist and surgeon were not happy with how little my calories I was eating. Encouraged to eat a minimum of 600, up to 900 calories. They want me aiming for 90g of protein daily and more frequent high protein meals. I have had like 3 stalls on my journey. It has be mentally tough on me. However, I will say that when I'm eating 1k calories...I feel better. I broke my stall. So, I'm not sure why they're wanting u to literally starve yourself. That's crazy to me. 9. I am hearing you !!! My friend said go on pintest which i did I got so inspired lots of yummies but sadly i haven't been motivated enough to cook any yet. But I do this for work I call it roast beef sushi 😁. Get some sliced deli meat my go to is roast beef, cut carrot, cucumber, capsicum and celery into sticks. Get some cream cheese ( light of course 😉) spread on the beef and then add something like mustard or whatever you prefer. Then get one of each of the veggie sticks put at one end of the beef and roll it up 😃 roast beef sushi !! At about 14 weeks I could eat 2 and a bit for lunch. But yes its hard I havent had lunch yet today and racking my brain what to have for dinner tonight. Do you have anyone to cook for? I wish i did or someone to cook for me 🤣🤣

Liver Shrinkage Diet (No weight loss)

Thank you so much for making me feel normal. I really was wonder if something was wrong with me. I'm considering dropping soup, and upping my protein intake. I will ask my team for a specific amount of carb and protein I should be having. I feel so hungry all the time, does a larger protein intake help with this? I will be starting from tomorrow, and hopefully see more than 1kg loss in 2 weeks time! Thank you, it has been hard but any loss is a good loss. It's hard to remember that. I'm trying to find like minded people to chat with too. I have no plus size friends who understand the hard realities of losing weight and Bsurgery. X

Liver Shrinkage Diet (No weight loss)

Hi I am on a low/no carb diet so I'm literally eating the above meals which will he very low in carbs. As for protein, my meat is free so I can have as much as I want. I will typically have three mini chicken breasts cut up into the salad. If I have eggs with anything I have 2 (poached) but eggs are not a daily intake. If I have cheese it's no more than 50g a day and is part of my allowance. Thanks for replying x

Liver Shrinkage Diet (No weight loss)

Yes I'm roughly having 800 cals a day! I lost 5 percent of my weight just prior to this diet so yeah I get what you mean. I'm really hoping next week I will see a result but if not I'm concerned. I guess it is slightly brutal but I will do anything to get that surgery! Thanks for replying x

    HUNGRY

Its brutal and you need to grit your teeth and get through it. I cried like a baby in my second week. I would cheerfully strangle the SOB who put me on it. I must say I directed some bad vibes his way. I did it though and would never do it again. Good luck

Liver Shrinkage Diet (No weight loss)

I cant believe in yet another version of the diet. Have you tracked it calorie wise. Mine was 3 weeks and didnt get more than 800 cals a day If you have lost weight in this run up then you will already have lost your water weight. Some people dont loose weight and their liver has been reduced enough for surgery. You should have gone with bricks in your pockets to bump up your weight and gained a big loss when you needed it. It seems brutal that you are being asked to do the pre op before you need to put yourself through it for real
  16. I was so glad to read this. I am 3 weeks out and have only lost 3 pounds. I am never really hungry, but eat because I know I have to. I have trouble fitting in all the food and shakes I need with waiting for the H2O intake before and after. I am ALWAYS thirsty and would prefer to just bring water all day if I had a choice. I am walking 3-4 x/day. I am not dehydrated but, continued shakes and soups have lost appeal. Maybe now that I can start on pureed foods I will be more motivated. I hope that I can start to loose more weight soon. Getting a bit discouraged.

Post op weight loss slowed down

Hi there! I am feeling a little disappointed because I am 3 weeks after surgery and have only lost 3 pounds. I feel like I am doing everything right, walking 3-4 x/day and eating less than1000 calories. Disappointed. Has anyone else had slow weight loss in the first month?
  18. Hi there! I hope some of you could enlighten me. I am potentially having surgery next year, and my bariatric nurse recommended I do the Liver Shrinkage DIet for 2 weeks to add favour to my referral to the surgeons. I am 9 days in and I have only lost 0.6kg (just over 1 pound). Prior to this, I was eating "normally"-carbs, and treats when appropriate as part of a normal lifestyle and I was losing around 2-3pounds a week (just under 1kg). I feel really deflated and feel like I won't hit my weight loss for the surgery referral, and that this diet is just not working. I've read other forums, and people have said they're losing 21 pounds in 2 weeks! I really don't understand why I'm losing LESS than I do on a normal diet. Typical intake: -Breakfast: 2 pieces of fruit or meal replacement shake -Lunch: Soup with a side of poached egg or a piece of fruit. -Dinner: Salad (Lettuce, cucumber, onion and spring onions. Small amount of added vinegar and light salad cream) with some protein of choice eg chicken, ham, beef etc. -Drinks: Water, diet Pepsi (one a day) and 1-2 cups of tea with sweetener and milk. All of these are done to the portion recommendations, and free foods and allowances. Please note I am using Orlistat every day and have been for the past half a year. Hope someone can relieve some imposter syndrome! TIA x

    November 2021 surgeries

During my two-week pre-op diet I constantly craved pizza! I mean, I do love pizza, but it was kind of weird how I fixated on it. Since surgery, though, I haven’t been bothered by cravings (so far). I should be starting mushy foods in about 10 days, and I’m hoping a bunch of cravings don’t come back once I start eating actual food again. If needed, maybe I could pay my best friends to order a pizza while I’m around so I could cut off the tip of a slice.
  20. I started a day early because Tuesday is a super busy day at work. I’m so glad I did because I had a migraine and was very sick on Monday. The rest of the week has just been a dull headache. I thought it was dehydration but I drink all day so I think it’s just lack of food. I’m so glad it’s only a few more days. How far out are you?

    January Surgery buddies

I have 2 distinct parts to my job. With the standard cleaning portion with no heavy mop buckets I can go back to work 2 weeks after surgery. But I also deliver cleaning by supplies and because I need to lift 30-40 pounds the recovery time is around 4 maybe 6 weeks Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

    January Surgery buddies

I'm crossing my fingers for a January date for my hernia repair and sleeve to bypass revision. Once insurance approves it will only be a few weeks. I'll hear from insurance by Christmas, it will be a very merry Christmas for me! I had my sleeve 7 years ago right before Thanksgiving. Sadly I developed some nasty GERD that has caused severe damage to my esophagus, as well as developed a large hiatal hernia. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

    Bariatric Therapy

I've been video-conferencing weekly with a highly recommended counselor who specializes in eating disorders @$115/hour. However, while she is both a dietitian and a counselor she usually works with bulimics, anorexics, or bingers. I don't have those problems. The first few sessions were frustrating because she kept up her usual spiel directed to those forms of disordered eating. I gave her a list of reference books before our first session, but it was obvious she had not read any of them. I had to educate her on food addiction, bariatric surgery, and my experience with my own wonky metabolism. I sought a counselor because I've gone off the rails a few times while pre-op when confronted with some really delectable food in front of me that I could not resist--namely coffee cake, strudel, pizza, Irish soda bread. As soon as I ate them my sugar/flour addiction was triggered and it took weeks to get over withdrawal again and to get back on track with my pre-op food plan. I don't want to do that after surgery so I was looking for tips and tricks for avoidance of temptation. Well, I'm not getting that type of advice. However, I am getting nutritional/dietetic information that I have not gotten from my clinic's nutritionists. I'll keep talking to her for the next two weeks because my RNY-RNY revision is just 17 days away. I'll wait and see post-surgery. The honeymoon period won't be difficult to me. The problem will arise once I'm eating "real food" again. Good luck finding a compatible counselor at a reasonable session cost.
  24. The pre-op diet is super hard. And your sounds like the hardest I've heard of. Mine was 2 weeks of 600 calories a day - I ended up using low carb meal replacement shakes x 3 a day because at least I was getting some vitamins and all my protein that way. You're on zero calories zero everything - sounds awful. BUT - you've done it, you're doing it, and you only have a few days left. You've got this. 💪

    Foods

My program allows a protein shake to have no more than 6 g of sugar and I am to drink them 4 times per day pre op for 2 weeks. Post op I am to have diluted fruit juice/gatorade (50/50 split with water) for the first week and then the shakes again for one week (4 per day). So from my calculations it would seem that they do not want me to have more than 24 g pre op and post op (minus the first week post op). Once I get to the soft food stage (weeks 3 and 4 post op) it seems the 24 ish grams per day is still in effect as they only want me to have 2 soft food meals and 2 shakes per day. Soft food is about a 1/4 cup of either minced protein or pureed carbohydrates like mashed banana. I looked and 1/4 mashed banana is 7 g of sugar. I used banana as it seems to be higher in sugar than berries or apples. I do not yet have direction for 4 weeks plus from surgery. Hopefully this was helpful.
