I'm a little over 3 weeks post op. The things I am finding the most useful: - food scale. Get used to measuring everything. - Immersion blender. You will be drinking lots of Protein shakes. I had been using a shaker bottle, but the immersion blender is so much easier and makes the shake smoother. - 4 oz containers. Has 2 uses. First, makes it easy to make sure I'm eating the right amount. Second, my portion of food fills the container, which for some reason makes me more satisfied with the meal. Even though 4oz easily fills me up, it was depressing to see my tiny portion of food in a big bowl. It made me feel deprived even though I wasn't hungry. Brains are weird! - Tiny spoon & fork. Helps make sure I eat slower and take smaller bites. - 32 oz Water bottle with measurements on the side. Makes it easier to keep track of Fluid intake.

I just started my journey yesterday . Meet with the surgeon. I have to do a three month supervised diet. I start that on Monday, have a pyc evaluation Thursday, sleep study done next Friday night. - didn't want to do that lol, I never sleep. I work full time and go to school part time. Who has time to sleep? Then the wait is on. I have read horror stories on Cigna. I am ready and excited. However I am a chicken when it comes to pain, I have had a csection. How is the pain related to that? Thanks for any and all information.

twitching and spasms at incision sites
NoMoBand replied to beergut's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5 weeks post op from getting port revised. I get massive iching and spasms at port and incisions, but, is getting better day at a time. I notice that when I exercise I tend to get the spasms. Ice helps. I also notice that the itching gets really bad with gas in the belly. GaxX or mylanta helps with this. It gets extremely frustrating. Hang in there. Jake -
Struggling with pre diet....surgery on Monday!!!
NewLifeRight posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Merry Christmas Band Family!!!!! I have been struggling horrifically with my 2 week pre diet. The holiday rush and food has been hard to resist cravings or skipping meals not following diet. I guess if I was great at dieting I wouldn't need the band...huh?? Will it be easier to follow the diet once banded? Did I hurt myself or my future with the band by not getting this pre diet right?? :-/ -
So I started my weight loss journey years ago but never thought about wls. I decided last year that wls was probably my best bet. So on my oldest son bday, April, I started my supervised 6 month diet. I went through all the testing, pych eval, nut appt and meet with my suregon twice. I have jumped through hoops to get here and now its only a week away. Im scheduled for preop appt on 2/12 and surgery on 2/13. My preop diet has been hard cause I still have a husband and three lil children to cook three square meals a day for but I haven't cheated and I'm hanging in there. Im getting super nervous as they days pass.

HI I am one month post op tomorrow. When I started this process and I read how some people lost weight so slowly I was sure that would not be me since I dedicate myself 100% to things. Also I lost 60 pounds in just about 4 months... of course I gained it all back thats why I had the surgery. Anyways so now I am post op 1 month and only lost 10 pounds since the surgery and 10 pounds on my pre op diet. The 10 I lost after the surgery was the first 2 weeks.. the last 2 weeks I have lost NOTHING!!!! I blog what I eat and I exercise every day for 30 mins to 1 hour. Now before I had the band if I did this I would loose at least 4 pounds a week.. and now nothing?? At first I said well I am not loosing because I am gaining muscle but come on how long can your body stay at the same weight with such low calorie intake and so much exercising? I am getting my 70 grams of protein and low carbs everything sugar free I am doing all I am supposed to do and I am getting discouraged!!! So if you started out like me with a BMI around 40 please let me know where you were at 1 month post op. Thanks -

Hi, I was banded July 21st. My weight that day probably wasn't realistic, since I had all that pre-surgery prep, which really emptied me out. Basically, given that weight, I have only lost 10 pounds in the almost 4 weeks since surgery. I had lost 35 pounds before it and that may be the reason why this weight loss is so slow. My first few weeks I know I was taking in too few calories and I'm probably not doing enough exercise, but it is still very discouraging. My starting BMI was 39. I have 40 more pounds to lose, which may be another reason why it's going so slow, but emotionally it is still very difficult, when I read how well everyone's doing. Any advice. One other thing, I'm 62 years old. Dec, 2007 - 210 pounds July 9th - 184 pounds July 21st - 174.5 pounds August 16th - 164.5 Sure could use some emotional support!!! (Now that I look at the above stats, I see that I've lost 20 pounds in 5 1/2 weeks. I guess that's OK!) Thanks for letting me vent. Love, Ellen -

I know how frustrated you are Emily. It is really hard in the first stages of being banded especially when you read on here how fast the weight falls off of some people. First off you should be congratulated for your 10 pounds pre and 10 pounds post op.. maybe you need to remind yourself just how heavy that is and go and pick up a few bags of sugar!!..(you won't feel so down about it then).. I was BMI 41 when I was banded on June 18th. After one month I lost 18 pounds. I was very pleased BUT I had many complications along the way. I have lost 30 pounds to date but haven't lost anthing for the past three weeks. I think because I had infections and my eating was just way out of whack. I also haven't been getting enough Protein. I do think that maybe you should call your dietician, give them a weekly journal of your eating and exercise.. maybe you need to increase your calories a bit more!??.. I read on here earlier that one woman could get out of her plateau by upping her calories (we are talking a couple hundred not a big mac style increase!!)..and changing her exercise routine..that would trick her body into moving the weight again... I used to do this when I was on weight watchers and would see a good weight loss afterwards. I am going to try again once I ge my ankle out of its plaster cast and can start exercising again!. Good luck to you and KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.. you are doing an amazing job!!!... keep in touch it will be good to hear how you are getting on. kind regards Kizzie -

Mini, I've been really bad about drinking the last two weeks. In turn, I haven't lost anything the last two weeks. Would you like to help each other stay accountable? I'll keep track of my liquids today and you keep track of yours. I'll pm you tonight my liquid for the day and you can do the same. I would do it here, but it would feel like hijacking the thread. Anyone else want to join? Feel free. -

I know you all hate to hear it, and it's more than frustrating, but the lapband typical results are the average of 2 pounds lost per week. If you have lost 10 pounds in a month, you are right on course. Also if you lose 4 pounds one week, then the next you may not lose any. 8 a month is par...so you're doing alright. Someone on here said that the pre-op takes EVERYTHING out of you and it does. And so you gain a few pounds just putting it all back the first week or so. Don't panic. I started with a bmi of 40 and have found that when I stressed about it the scale refused to move. My biggest 'staller' has always been not getting enough no-cal liquids. I have been able to steadily lose 2 pounds a week and have been at 8-10 pounds every month. good luck to you all, if I can help any more, please let me know. This isn't easy but it is possible. Don't lose faith in yourself. You CAN do this. -
How long between “meals”
Briswife15 replied to 2Bsmaller18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just curious, but are those your surgeon's instructions? I know all surgeons are different, but I will still be on pureed food at 3 1/2 weeks, and can't eat solid regular food for 7 weeks. Maybe your new pouch is telling you it is too soon for such heavy food. Now, if it is on your plan, maybe you ate too quickly or too much volume. Good luck, and I hope it doesnt happen again! -

How long have you been on your journey? Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App I had surgery 4 months ago. I went to the seminar about a year and a half ago and had to wait on a medical issue before I could have surgery. When do you begin to feel stable or yourself again? Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App physically I felt pretty good right away. I am normally a pretty upbeat person - but at week 3 I was very angry all the time, and then I had some mild depression for a few weeks. so, I'd say its about 6 weeks before you begin to find your own new normal. I didn't have any complications, -
I am having a hard time getting it all in too. I am still on clear liquids and will start on the protein next week. I think it will be chanllenging though. But now it is like the more I drink the more gas I have...

9 pounds lost in total and gaining it back
cQQlgirl replied to cQQlgirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you all for responding to this post. I still haven't lost anything but I can feel a little of the feeling of restriction. Certainly not enough because I'm hungry between meals and can eat more than I should be able to at meals. I still haven't been able to really get the Water thing going on and eating on a regular schedule without any in between is tough. Eating in the middle of the night is still a problem. On top of all this, I have the ultimate excuse. My faithful companion, my empath cat...my love of my life had to be put down on Saturday. I have had her 20.5 years, since she was 8 weeks old. She knew me so well...and I had to do this for her...so hard. She got old: and in the last week she was unable to really stand on her back legs. She'd fall over if you breathed on her. I still can't believe she's gone. We buried her in a secluded patch in our front yard. It hurts. __________________ -
I have only had the band for 3 weeks but I know what you are going through. I know right now I am going to get hungry, but I am sticking to the diets my doctor gave me as much as I can. I am trying to have good Snacks between meals and that has helped. Keep working at it, hopfully it will get easier.

I wasn't allowed to have tomato soup because of exactly what you said, it is too acidic. They said it might bother the tummy. My favorite soup for my 2 weeks post-op full liquid phase was cream of celery. I ate that for the entire 2 weeks at lunch and dinner... it takes me a long time to get tired of eating certain foods, I'm weird. You could also do cream of chicken, cream of mushroom. Just remember that if you do any soups with pieces of veggies or other things in them that you need to strain it before you eat it. Congratulations on your surgery!

I am the same way and I work 3 - 15 1/2 hr days a week on my feet most of it. My surgery was 4/10 I was back to work 10 days post-op. It wore me out.

April 3rd Sleeve
Deactivatedfatgal replied to Grandma of Six Boys's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I honestly crushed sf popsickles & mixed it with water & ice to make a "slushee" for first few weeks because I wanted to get as much liquid as possible. I am almost 8 weeks out and can ONLY consume one or two bites before needing to take a break. I also did have buyers remorse but only cause I was self pay & my husband just changed jobs & I could've gone through them for procedure, lol. Sorry about your trip to the ER, just try to sip, sip all day, set reminders on your phone if you need to. It's easy for me to forget to sip at times, but I can drink more at once than week 1,2,3 and so forth. -
July 17th Surgery! How much time off work?
TheCurvyJones replied to SweetGisy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery Dec 21st 2012. It was at year end on purpose because I knew I would have all that time to recover. I could have honestly gone back in a week but I'm glad I had an extra week to chill. I've seen people go back in about 7- 10 days and do fine, but every person is different. Just remember to take it easy, no lifting for 10 days post op and if you need to sit and rest, do it. I felt fine but I was just tired. Around 8PM I hit a wall and I was done for the day. It took me a few weeks to really feel like myself.
