What Whole Foods Are Highest In Protein?

Tons of options. Obviously, any sort of fish, poultry, pork, beef, game meats, seafood. Dairy - Greek yogurt, leaner cheeses, skim/lowfat milk. Eggs, egg whites. And, of course, anything you can mix protein powder in, ranging from pudding to homemade banana bread.
  2. So has been six weeks and I am still floating at the same weight I was at surgery. I was 305, then 307, then 305 again this week. I usually weigh myself on the scale out in the hallway at my medical center. Everthing seems to be working. I can barely eat anything in the morning w/o choking. If it is mushy I can eat 8-12 oz of it like oatmeal or Soup. If its chili consistency I can eat about 8 oz of it. I've mostly been eating canned soup, tuna, homemade chicken chilli, suriami fish, homemade udon soup with lots of veggies chopped up small and cooked in. I eat carbs in the form of very crisp rusks or crisp wholegrain crackers. I have something sweet about once a week and I only buy a 1 serving size, like a box of Junior Mints. I tried toast but there is no time of the day that toast does not eventually choke me, so I gave up on that. I've also reduced my grocery shopping to one day a week AND my Jan. grocery budget spending was 1/2 of what it is normally too. Once I passed the regular liquid stage, I stopped eating yogurt, soy milk, sugar free/no sugar added puddings, and veggie/unsweetened fruit smoothies. The sugar free stuff just wrecked me and made me constantly hungry for more pudding. I'm also working on exercise. I don't like going out where people can see me. BUT I don't like walking alone in the woods or the park. I went swimming even but I tried to jump out of the pool like I used to 12 years ago, and banged up my knee, and pulled a muscle. I just want to see some results like everyone here! Does anyone know when?

My surgeon considers yogurt a liquid. Anything that is pain related is a call to your surgeon. You are too early out for anyone here to guess with you or reassure you. Keep posting. You're doing great!
  4. They did stay down, but I can't eat much of them, I think I can manage 2 oz. now, eaten really slowly. I definitely recommend adding something to make them more moist, like yogurt or low-fat mayo.
  5. I too opt not to be super tight. I have lost slower than some, but it has been lost none the less! I do not "diet" per se, I am conscious of what I eat...and do my best to make wise choices most of the time. As Jachut said, that is so much easier to do when you reach a level of restriction to where the band does help you! I used to walk into the house, and was starving, so I grabbed, Cookies, chips, anything ready to eat,and gorged myself! Now I walk in, and with the hunger at bay, I can make myself happy with a yogurt, or a wedge of cheese. I keep leftovers on hand, and snack away at them. This is how I expect to live the remainder of my life, so I do not care to live on a diet forever! Did I make bad choices in food? You bet I did! Do I still make bad choices in food? Sure do! I just work on it the next time I eat. No matter what with the bad choices on occasion, I am eating so much healthier than I did pre band--it is hard for me to believe. BUT it took me a year and a half to get here, where this feels normal! A band without proper restriction is like a car without gas. You can push it, but it is not doing what it was designed to do! Your band is sitting there, it just needs its "gas". Go for the next fill, work with your Dr. to find a good level of restriction, and you will have HELP from the band! If we could do this on will power alone, none of us would be on this board. Feeling like crap from making bad choices is actually a step in the right direction, you are recognizing the areas in which you need to work. I know I would do great through the day, and then evening would hit, and I would graze! When I stopped losing, and got all bummed out, I realized I was happy with my choices all day, then went to bed feeling crappy about myself, and realized it was due to the choices I made each night. So I began revamping my evening plan! And slowly it worked! Get your band on board, and working with you, and you will find a new attitude comes with it I bet. Til then recognizing where the problem lies, is a great way to begin solving the issues. That sure sounds like a bunch of hooey from a self help book--but it worked for me! Kat

    Lap Band Friendly Fast Food

My fast food choices: Chipotle chicken bol, no rice extra black Beans, hot salsa, light on the cheese & sour cream. I can easily get 2 - 3 meals out of this. Schlotzky's Thai chicken pizza or Soup. Taco Bell or Taco Bueno - pintos & cheese. Sometimes I will get a spicy chicken taco and add some of the meat to the beans, hubby eats the rest. McDonald's Fruit n' Yogurt parfait.

    Purred Diet Ideas Please

Its pretty much anything you can shove in a blender/ use a hand blender on Think homemade baby food. I made soups and thickly blended them by using less of the stock. I did fruit purees my fave was peach pear and apple. you do have to cook them down with some water then blend them not just "raw" fruit You can do like chicken stew/casserole and blitz it so yeah pretty much anything you like as long as its healthy of course and if you do fruit like I did its not your all day food choice I did that and still do for a fruit options add it to yogurt or breakfast stuff it all depends. To make the food wetter you just add fluid like gravy, stock, milk, protein shake even. I mainly stuck to thicker home made soups because I had a hard time with all meats so it was easier to just blend a chicken or turkey and veg soup and that be my food.
  8. I must be doing exceptionally well, or something is wrong! I am not quite two weeks and I have no problem with a 4oz greek yogurt. For that matter I have no problem with 4oz of anything! That is probably my limit though. I have made some pureed bean soups (yummy) and put those in 1/2 cup servings and I can get one of those down too (they are very liquid). I have never had a problem with shakes either. I could do one of those in 15 minutes, easy. I am beginning to wonder if I got the 32f boughie he said I did! So, it all depends on how well you are healing and what your capacity is.
  9. my doctor started me on full liquids as soon as my surgery was done. i'm 5 days out now and i cannot eat 4 ozs of yogurt at one time. i can maybe get 2 ozs in....but that's okay with me. i know my time will come when i can handle a little bit more, but right now, i dont want to push it and hurt myself. just go slow, take small bites, and listen to your body.
  10. I don't think I could have prepared for the loss of appetite that happens with surgery. I'm not hungry, haven't been hungry since 8/5 - the day before my surgery. I thought it would be awesome not being hungry. And in a way, it is. I wasn't prepared for how its not. I hate eating right now. I don't struggle doing it, I just don't want to do it. There is no joy in it, it takes up my time, it occasionally hurts if i try to rush it. Honestly would like to take a day off and not eat anything and would be perfectly content but I know thats not what's best for my body. So I guess I'll force down the protein drinks, soups, and yogurts today. I hope this melancholy regarding food goes away at some point.
  11. Hello everyone, I really just need to vent. My husband is being so completely unsupportive about my preop liquid diet. I have been cheating by not drinking my Slimfast, but I have been following clear liquids for the most part and eating healthy foods when I don't eat clear liquids (yogurt, fruit, etc). My husband is completely riding me about cheating. He used to be an alcoholic and is comparing it to his drinking, which I think is completely unfair- yes, food is an addiction, but unlike alcohol, we need it to survive. It's not something you can just totally avoid. What does everyone else think? I need some words of wisdom. I am starting to doubt whether I should go through with this-he makes me feel as if I have no willpower and I am a failure. Please, someone help with my sanity and thanks for listening to me vent my frustrations! :help:

    My first of pre-op diet

I'm there as well!!! I am on day 3 and it's does get better each day. I am having low fat cottage cheese as a snack, greek yogurt and i have had some chicken broth and that feels so good. I have been having a lot if Water, abt 80+ oz p day in addition to diet snapple and some decaf coffee. The first day headaches are gone but working in a team environment where everyone is ordering team lunch and dinner is the hardest test on my will power. I had a dream I ate some bread without realizing it smh. I wish you all the best on this journey and keep it up we are strong xoxo Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Ok Yvonne, here it is  For my shakes I used either the Carnation Instant Breakfast sugar free ones (they are in a blue bottle or packet, I used the bottles as they were easier) and the Slim Fast High Protein Shakes. Breakfast: A shake Lunch: A shake and a small apple Snack: a light yogurt Dinner: 2 pieces of whole wheat light bread (I used Weight Watchers bread) and 4 ounces of lean deli meat (I used Hilshire farms in the gladware with a red top). I also drank 1 cup of V8 juice. I drank lots of Water throughout the day. It wasn't fun, but wasn't awful either. You can put mustard on your sandwich at night (not mayo though). I liked toasting the bread every now and then to change things up. I hope this helps. Like I said, I lost 17 pounds in two weeks doing it. I stuck to it 100%. Keep us updated on how you are doing!! Jennifer

    Why only puréed fruits?

you're supposed to eat greek yogurt with has more Protein and less sugar. veggies might have too much Fiber
  15. I feel your pain, but I can offer you some consolation. Nothing that I have tried tasted the same or very good, except one thing. I had a serious addiction to cheez its. I decided to buy some reduced fat kind. Ehhh....lol. I'm kinda mad I have a whole box. A serving is 29 crackers and it takes me all day to finish them. Today an ex came to visit said he was going to Buffalo Wild Wings and asked did I want anything. I asked for 6 naked tenders, sauce on the side. I didn't eat with him because I had eaten about an hour earlier. I finally open the box, after he left and there were FRIES in the box with the tenders. WHAT THE... I tasted one....nope. it didn't do it for me anymore. The only "treat" I enjoy are the yogurt pops by popsicle. I have/had a serious love affair with ice cream. They have calmed the beast for 90 calories. I still go to the ice cream section and gaze, survey the new flavors, reminisce... I can't bring myself to buy it though, too much going for me.
  16. My first trip to the store hurt my checkbook! I was shopping for "soft foods" and bought crab. lobster bisque, gournet cheeses, 3 types of fish, Fage yogurt..... it was insane! Keep in my mind, I still cook for a family of five...and 3 and half weeks later, I STILL have foods from that trip!! I didn't "mourn" - I was excited to see all the wonderful stuff I COULD eat
  17. I'm sure you've already thought of full fat yogurt instead of the zero -- and it's supposed to be so much better for us, that "good fat." Also I am surprised at how high in calories ground flax seeds are; I love those, the nutty flavor, and also very good for you. Now, can you go have one tiny piece of triple creme cheese for me?

    What do you eat????

I eat pretty normally... just smaller portions, except that I have absolutely no desire for carbs-rice/potateos/bread/corn/sweets. Which I used to survive on! I'm still amazed at that. I normally eat like this (but try to vary it some from day to day): Water, meds B/F - 1 scrambled or boiled egg sometimes with a bit of ham or chicken and about 1/2 cup of fresh fruit or sugar free yogurt. If I'm running late I have a Protein shake or bar. Then I take my Vitamins on a full stomach. WATER lunch - 2 or 3 oz of turkey, chicken or tuna, 1/2 cup veggies ... maybe a whole-grain cracker or 2, but not very often WATER Snack - a bit of meat or cheese, or maybe half a Protein Bar, or some whole-grain cereal with milk WATER Supper - 2 or 3 oz of beef or turkey, 1/2 cup veggies (different from the ones I had at lunch), fruit or yogurt... very occasionally I might have a Tablespoon or 2 of rice or Pasta - but that's rare. WATER, meds I really don't watch my fat intake - I find that if I cut it too low my skin gets super dry & itchy and my hair looks dull & lifeless. But, as you can see, I don't get a lot of fat from the foods I eat anyway. I do count calories - though not strictly.. I just keep a running total in my head so I don't go over 1800. When I first started eating solids I wrote everything down religiously and I will probably do that again if I feel myself loosing control. I don't exercise as much as I probably should, but we live on a small farm and I get a daily workout that way. Along with 3x a week at Curves. I'm 11 1/2 weeks post op and haven't had a fill yet so I'm hardly an expert, but thought I'd share since you asked.

    Feeling Weak...

Hi, you should be on full liquids now. and having at least 60 grams of protein. And you should be having Strained & thinned cream of white or rice cereal on strianed baby cereals.. you have can any kind of 100% fruit juices or 100% vegetalbe juice.. Dole is the best kind of fruit juice to me... and you can have create low fat soups, like potato soup, and other cambells soup, go in Walmart and look around... and all the other stuff which includes sugar free popsicles, surgar free jello, low fat yogurt (with out the fruit) try the trix ones for kids, there great and no fruit in is them. If you still feel bad after all this, contact your doctor. Hope this helps.
  20. There is Protein in nearly everything. I am vegetarian. I do supplement with my morning shake but I get most of my protein from food. I eat greek yogurt, cheese, nuts, Beans, dark green veg, fruit and whole grains. This week I am using something I called green base. It's 3 cups of raw kale, 1 cup frozen spinach, 1/8 cup almond slivers, 1/2 apple blended in the vitamix and poured into ice cube trays. I use 2 cubes per servings. It's only 3 gms of protein but loads of Fiber and Vitamins. I then added 2 ice cubes of orange juice, 1 small orange. 1/2 cup greek yogurt, 1 scoop Isopure unflavored Protein Powder. I drink half before and half after my workout. It's 36 gms of protein. lunch is Explore Asian - Organic Mung Bean Pasta. I'll probably add some sauteed veg with it. 3oz is 38gms of protein. I'll have some nuts for an afternoon snack. A salad with an egg for dinner. A lot of nutritionist tell you to stop Protein drinks because they want you to focus on eating whole foods. I told mine I was never a breakfast person and I always my a Protein Drink for breakfast. She seemed okay with it since I eat regular meals otherwise. I did go through a period where I wasn't interested in food at all. I just went through the motions to meet my protein goals. However for the most part I enjoy being creative and making nutritious things to eat. It makes it easier to continue to make this part of my lifestyle.

    2 day post op pain

Wow, I had gastric sleeve yesterday, and my post-op diet is clear liquids for 2 weeks, all liquids for two weeks, then pureed foods for 2 weeks. Yogurt is included in the all liquids section, and cottage cheese doesn't come in until the pureed phase at week 5. Pre Op - Post Op Handout Level 1.pdf
  22. Tonight, after a particularly long day, I came home in a bit of a foul mood and started contemplating what to have for "dinner" (the quotations due to me being only 2 weeks out today with very limited choices) and ended up making a cup of miso Soup from a mix I bought at the health food store. I had to post the outcome of the evening on the forum, because I knew it was the only place where people would understand. Background info, I saw the doctor this morning and she said I can try advancing to slightly fuller liquids like yogurt or cottage cheese, being very careful to see what I tolerate. She also recommended, due to our gallbladders being stressed on such a low fat diet (apparently they need fat to function? Learning stuff every day), that I add a tablespoon or so of olive oil to Soups, to increase the "good fats" in my diet. So, feeling brave and desperate for a change in menu, I added the oil and also about two tablespoons of plain Greek yogurt to my soup, even though I've been pretty fearful about advancing my stages. My insurance sucks and I have major anxiety about causing any problems. Well... It. Was. Amazing. The olive oil made the soup taste just a bit richer. The yogurt was very broken down by the warm soup and the pieces I fished out pretty much just melted in my mouth. Whatever - I feel like I just ate a meal fit for a king. I had to get up twice and putter around, to distract myself from eating too fast. But it went down great! I just had to share. That bit of yogurt was the first thing I've had in a month with a consistency thicker than milk or Water, and that feels like a HUGE victory!
  23. I like fage 0%, which is a Greek yogurt. Look up the nutrition facts at www.fageusa.com. I like the plain variety. It's not too sweet, not too tart, is not runny, but not chalky thick either. It can be sweetened with Splenda or other sweeteners, including sugr-free flavored syrups such as Torani. I buy it in the family-size container so I can use only what I want at the time.

    Free of Sugar Free

I do the same as rainbow. I consume food in its normal form. Milk is just plain, whole, milk. Yogurt is plain. Can add plain whole berries to it for a bit of sweetness. I do add butter, ground black pepper, garlic, and salt to things I'm cooking. I have been putting milk in my tea, but adding a teaspoon of honey or maple syrup would be fewer calories and help me transition away from dairy (dairy was my bestest friend immediately postop, but it's not as good anymore). Plain tea doesn't work for me. My vitamins are full of artificial sweeteners, but they work ok so I'll keep them. The idea isn't to be devout.. it's to retrain yourself in the direction that makes sense for you.

Recipes for 3rd week - mushy foods

I was allowed chili put through the blender at this point. I also made the "baked ricotta" recipe that is famous on here. It was AWESOME. Some other things I had were tuna salad that I ran through the food processor, mashed potatoes with a gravy made from ground beef and fat free beef gravy (blended in blender), and greek yogurt smoothies.
