    Restriction

Goodness, I can go days without even noticing how or what I am eating and then wham, the restriction is intense and that knot in my stomach feeling is there again. Not Complaining as I am glad it is still there but man I didn't enjoy that feeling the first several months. I still get a kick out if eating a yogurt cup and knowing my stomach can't/won't hold another bite.

    Pre-op Prep for Surgery Diet

Thanks for your list. Very much like the PreOp things. :DRonda My surgeon gave me a grocery shopping list for things to have on hand after surgery. Keep in mind each surgeon's diet plan is a bit different, but here are some things from my list: skim milk plain Greek yogurt (or CarbMaster) egg substitute fat-free cottage cheese Water packed tuna lean beef, chicken, turkey, fish (for blending/puree) carrots or green Beans (again for blending) low sodium tomato sauce low sodium vegetable soup low sodium V8 unsweetened canned fruit unsweetened applesauce cream of wheat oatmeal (old fashioned) cream of rice mashed potatoes (made with chicken broth, no butter or sour cream) winter squash or sweet potatoes low fat mayo or low fat miracle whip crystal light sugar free kool aid sugar free hot chocolate sugar free popsicles sugar free syrup flavorings sugar substitute flavoring extracts true lemon packets Protein supplement

    Protein options

THIS! I think I tried/sampled 10 -15 different Proteins until I got what I liked. My current favorite is Isopure unflavored. I can mix it with anything. Water, tea, coffee, Soup, yogurt, etc.... Protein powder mixed in 0% greek yogurt is a terrific protein punch. That doesn't make any sense.
  4. Gurgulina - I love it! Your description fits my experience to a T... Lots of gurgles, very few actual burps, taking all the time, only quiets when I have taken a break from sipping (I am day 5 liquids, Jello, melted yogurt only)...

    My surgery was Aug 1st

@Tonya2bfit I had tons of noises post op. IT was quite embarrassing because I've always had a quiet gut. As far as hunger it may be hard to tell right now with being on full liquids. You may notice it less as your diet advances and trust me you will be able to tell when you're full which is why you want to learn early on to undereat your sleeve. When I was at your stage I was tolerating about 1/4 cup of soup, cream of wheat or applesauce etc. For something like yogurt, I'd eat what I could and come back to it after about 20 min to finish it off. in between, I was sipping Water, and Protein shakes. I will admit I was feeling this sort of spasm in my upper stomach that felt almost like a cross between a burp and a hunger pang. I didn't know what the heck was going on. It did calm down as time went on and I now notice it less frequently and ONLY when I haven't eaten for awhile. Make sure you are eating enough and make sure you are taking your Prilosec. I just learned about silent GERD so some of the symptoms you described may be related.
  6. I had surgery on 10/10/11. I have had 3 fills since then totaling 2.7cc's. My PA initally put in 3 cc's at my first fill, but Water wouldn't pass so she took 1cc out. Then, I got .5cc at my second and .2cc at my third. So far, I have noticed I need to chew well and slow down. I have gotten stuck a few times from eating too fast, but it has not helped with keeping me full for hours. I still get hungry about 2 or 3 hours after a meal. When will the band start helping me stay full? This is my biggest problem. When I force myself to wait for the next meal and struggle through the hunger pains, I find myself eating fast because I'm starving and then I get stuck. My foods consist of Protein shakes, cottage cheese, plain greek yogurt, tuna, chicken, salads, cheese sticks, Protein Bars, and nuts. I think I'm overeating sometimes because I try to eat more thinking that it will hold me over longer. I have only lost 20 pounds since surgery (about 5 pounds a month) and my stomach is still always growling. When will the physical hunger go away??

    Unflavored Protein

I use unflavored whey protein from GNC, I add it to soups, mashed potatoes, shakes, yogurt etc. it has a milky taste so I try to add it to things with an underlying milk taste so its more masked.
  8. Hi Everyone, I am 19 days post op and only lost 10lbs. I am so confused as I am meeting my protein and water requirements. I'm on soft foods but usually drink protein, greek yogurt and eggs (starting to hate eggs). Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated.

    EGD - 1 Year Post-Op

My surgeon performs an EGD after being banded for one year to check that my band is where it's supposed to be...I had it last Wednesday (7 days ago)...since then I have had difficulty eating....as in if its "good" for me - it's going to get stuck or make me feel extremely full after eating maybe 1/2 cup....and eventually make me throw up...not only do I get the "stuck" feeling..but my stomach actually hurts. Normally every morning I eat a greek yogurt before I take my morning meds. .yesterday I couldn't even eat the yogurt. This morning I'm having trouble drinking coffee, but I think that's because I tried to eat a small baked chicken breast for dinner last night and it's still hanging around..... My question is, has anyone else ever experienced this after having an EGD? If so, how long did it last and did you do anything ? I almost feel like maybe I'm too tight right now..I know my stomach/band is irritated and swollen but is this a normal experience after an EGD?

A very interesting evening for me...

Thanks all for the well wishes. So far so good! I only had coffee, Water and some unjury chicken Soup today. I'm feeling fine at this point. mp8, congrats on the no donuts!! Stay away from them as long as you can... LOL To anyone who was lactose intolerant pre-surgery... beware! It might not even hit right away, but when it does... WOWZAAA!!! I might stay away from milk entirely now. That was just awful. However the moootopia does sound interesting. I've tried Silk before but it was nasty. LOL As far as dairy products, I've not had one single issue. cheese or yogurts seem ok so far. I never eat Cottage Cheese, so I'm not sure about that one. I haven't tried Ice Cream, but since that always upset my stomach the most pre-surgery I almost cringe about trying it now! OmG... which can't be such a bad thing. I hear that's the easiest to get down and so full of sugar and calories. No harm done there. Fleur, yes at least is was the SF type. I still eat my SF Fudgesicles when I feel the need. No biggie. BBJ, I'm positive it was the sugar in your dessert. I noticed in the few times I'd indulged in sugar I really didn't feel that great after. After last nights episode, I really REALLY don't want anything to do with all that anymore... aughh!! Lila, I'm so scared to go through that again, I'll not even experiment with Lactaid or whatever... ;o)

    fat

i love the coffee flavored one too, but my nutritionist only allows dannon light and fit. the oikos has too much sugar (like 19g, i think?) so she said to take a few spoonfuls and mix it with regular greek yogurt so i'm still getting the taste, just not the sugar.

    High Protein Snack Foods

I appreciate all the tips! Unfortunately, I think I spoke too soon. Right now, my stomach isn't tolerating any protein other than liquid/yogurt without it feeling like I swallowed a handful of rocks

    Great foods post yours too!

Costco has a jalapeno greek yogurt dip that is awesome. I use it with all kinds of meat as a dip or on top as a spead. It's even good with veggies.
  15. Have you made "cheese crackers" yet? Basically small cheese slices (or piles of shredded cheese) under the broiler. http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2016/03/healthy-crunchy-snacks.html I like cucumbers and hummus, cucumbers & salsa, tomatoes & goat cheese, apple slices & cheese, greek yogurt, Protein shake, Protein Bars, beef Jerky, almonds, Mr Cheese O's (http://www.sonomacreamery.com/mr-cheese-os). I know there are more....I just cant think of them....
  16. Thanks I feel better today, I only did protein shakes and yogurt today to give my pouch a break. It's weird, I had eaten it last week and was fine.
  17. I second the greek yogurt. I am also using nectar protein drinks.

    Protien, water & vitamin intake

How about an unflavored that you can put in Jello, crystal light or juice? Of course, unjury has one, but there are others as well. I don't know about your plan, but I was on Clear Liquids for a week, then full liquids for two...full liquids included yogurt - I would mix Protein powder in plain Greek yogurt. That was a nice change from the shakes
  19. with puree stage, I did ricotta bakes -- i made them in 1/4 cup size and would be lucky to get 1 down. If I did, my brain would be like "ANOTHA ONE!" and by the time i would fix a second, I would feel full. It sounds more like a mental thing with your wanting more than a physical. Give yourself time to adjust to your new body and your new mindset. Try to eat slower if you find yourself wanting more. I also had refried beans, apple sauce with cinnamon, puree egg salad (eggs, a bit of dijon mustard and a bit of mayo or greek yogurt). Pinterest was a life saver for me w/recipes.. greek yogurt w/flavored protein powder, jello protein shots..
  20. I had my lap band surgery in Mexico on 9/9/09 and have not had any solid foods since! I went for Xrays and even saw Dr. Fielding at NYU and was told that the band was tight even with no saline in it. So I am living with this band for almost 5 years and have only lost 50 lbs bringing me to 330 lbs. Have arthritis in hips and knees and need cane to get around. But was told if I can lose weight that the mobility would be much better. I live on Fage yogurt and Boost protein drinks/ NO more. Anyone else have a similar problem?????????????
  21. Jack, I believe that after seeing Dr. Fielding and the Xrays that my impression was that the band that was inserted could possibly be a smaller size then I needed. I had this done in Mexico because at the time my insurance would not pay for the procedure. I was not diabetic and my blood pressure was excellent. It still cost me over 5000 out of pocket but at the time was my only choice. You give me congratulations on my weight loss but I am still morbidly obese at 330. Think about having 3 yogurts and 2 to 3 boost drinks per day for almost 5 years. With those calories I should be 250 lbs, which is my fighting weight. I exploded up to 443 after losing my wife and brother in the same year, but was about 380 when I had the surgery. The fact that I am only able to get around with a cane adds insult to injury. Even without the exercise I should have dropped a lot more weight. AND yes I have had my metabolism checked. The best part is I never have to decide on what is for dinner. But honestly this has been the most frustrating situation for me.
  22. My doctor ordered me to be on a 3 week pre-op diet. This Friday, my surgery day, will mark the end of my 3 weeks. My Daily Menu: Breakfast: Protein shake Lunch: Protein Shake Snack: 1/2 cup Chobani Plain Greek Yogurt (I add a packet of Stevia In the Raw to sweeten it up.) Dinner: 1 cup of broth based Soup Water: 64 ounces/day I was miserable the first week of my diet but my body has adjusted to it so I'm a happy camper. I've lost a total of 21 pounds.
  23. I am on my 2nd day of pre-op diet. I had a ready made protein drink yesterday- Myoplex EAS vanilla, it was great and filling. Then some chili for dinner. Today was a homemade protein shake, a ready made shake, condensed soup, light yogurt, and a cup of broth. I haven't snapped and bludgeoned anyone with my blender yet. I do recommend vanilla based protein drinks because they can be mixed with more things. Try adding instant coffee for a iced mocha version, diet chocolate syrup, bananas, a liitle strawberry yogurt, some peanut butter and chocolate syrup or orange yogurt and make an orange cream flavor. Get creative, but try to stay low-cal. I'm thinking about this time as a cleanse. Good luck on all pre-op diets!
  24. I am sorry that I can't really give advice on this issue, but I want to say that I can definitely identify with you, although I am not quite as far out as you are. I am 15 months post sleeve. Other than the 9 pounds I lost last week (I was in hospital and couldn't keep down any food), I have stayed and bounced from 190-200 lbs for the last 4 months. My surgeon's goal weight for me is 175. Sitting at 190 as of today. Like you, I have current health conditoons that I am working on with my surgeon and gastro doctor. Because of multiple open abdominal surgeries, I deal with chronic pain, and even though I have lost over 140 lbs, I haven't been able to get to the point where I am able to exercise much. Also, like you, I am letting the carbs sneak in. The main culprits for me are yogurt and cream of mushroom soup. Not wanting to go on about my health issues, but I am very limited right now as to what I am able to consume without getting sick. Protein shakes I do fine, cream soups and broths with my Isopure unflavored protein powder. I am going way over 50 grams a day in carbs....this has really brought my weight loss to a screeching halt. @Twinmom07 I don't mean to take over your thread, I hope someone out there has some suggestions for both of us. I really want to get to my doctor's goal weight and I'm only 15 pounds away from it.
  25. Hi Escape- I think returning early so that you have the option of a couple of 1/2 days is a great idea. I am not sure how long you have been off. I took 5 days off before returning to my job as a highschool administrator. I was able to dictate my schedule so I made the first few days mostly office work. I was able to work full 8 hour days the first two days but I took a 1/2 day on Wednesday for the first two weeks. Having that middle of the week half-day to rest and recover was a huge lifesaver for me. I would also suggest evening naps when you get home for the first couple of weeks (if you can manage it). That 30-45 minutes of rest really helped me as well. I was very tired from weeks 1-4 as my body adjusted to the extreme change in calories. As for what to have at work with you, I had plenty of G2, Protein shakes, cup of Soups (tomato and cream of chicken) and greek yogurt. The cup of soups and yogurt worked really well at disguising that I had weight-loss surgery since those are common things co-workers had for Snacks and drinks. As you get into mushies, I also had 100 calorie cheese packets, etc. Best of luck to you! Amanda
