Submitted to Insurance, now I wait...
SIPS in Seattle replied to Miranda Christine's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The first time it was for my lapband which was denied twice, took a couple weeks. This time for the revision it took less than a week for approval. I have Aetna pos II. Good luck! You can always call too and just ask for a status. -
Submitted to Insurance, now I wait...
SIPS in Seattle replied to Miranda Christine's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The first weigh in at my first visit at my surgeons office is where the count started for me with Aetna. For my revision the approval happened within days of submission. The surgeon’s office doesn’t submit until you’re done with all the requirements of your plan. They should let you know what those are, or you can call and ask Aetna yourself. Approval is usually within 2 weeks of submission. Good luck to you. [emoji4] -
I could defiantly have it worse but i had my sleeve placed on the 15th of July and one month later i went to the er with pain on my right side... Afraid it was paincritist or gullbladder (spelling sucks), we found out my endo-oscopy that my new sleeve had flipped and flopped rightside up i had a revision and had my new sleeve stapped and sewed to my muscles in my and around my abdomen walls. Now that this has been done I feel so much worse off than before. I was expecting for the same results and now i just regret my decision altogether wishingi never did this Sorry jist a,little rant :/

Slow weight loss after Lap band revision to RYN?
SnowDaisy replied to jgarcia323's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I don't believe that revision patients are necessarily slower. Just my opinion though. X -
Hi All, I had to have my band removed last fall due to a port infection. I would like to have the sleeve revision now. It’s. 3-5yr wait in B.C. to get into the program. Is there anywhere in Canada where we can fast track with self pay? Or if you are in Canada and did self pay - where did you go? How much did you pay? How was your experience? Thank you.

Lap band revision to sleeve
robertweisman replied to ette16's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had a revision from lapband to sleeve. The pain was less for me believe it or not on this one. The only difference really is they are cutting scar tissue from the band that it left. And maybe adjusting stuff where band was. I had my surgery in mexico and I was walking 30mins after I came out of recovery. Exspect gas pain. Sucks -
Band slipped...scared for whats next.
2muchfun replied to Heather_8.1.14's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know there's a band to sleeve forum and maybe a band to bypass forum too? Found it: http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/775-band-to-gastric-bypass-revisions/ -
My band was placed in 2007. It slipped in 2011 (fill removed and I was on protonix) everything seemed fine. Then in January I started having pain. So I cut out splenda and wheat thinking those could be the culprits. I also cut back to one cup of coffee a day , instead of my usual 3. Still having pain, a few trips to the ER, a course of protonix, CT scan. Then the last few weeks I stopped tolerating solids. I would get pain about 30 min after eating & it would last for hours. Then on Tuesday I had a protein shake and was un pain afterwards- which lasted until removal on Thursday. The ER did an upper gi which showed a slippage with major trapped gas. But no blockages. And no restriction- the contrast went thru easily. So they took the remaining fluid out of my band & sent me home on pain meds. The meds did nothing for the pain. Water hurt to drink. The next day I was back in the ER- and my orginal surgeon removed the band. The only pain I have now is my throat & one incision site- where my port was. And thankfully I can tolerate water, apple juice and ice chips- the only issue being choking from my uvula. I started at 350 before my band and am about 215 now. I did go as low as 160- when I had my first slip as nothing was going down. I have 3 months until a revision surgery- this time the band is not an option. I still have to find out if my insurance covers revisions & jump thru those hoops. My surgeon requires a 3 month healing period/ resting period.

Question About Bcbs Of Michigan And Revision To Sleeve
anna48073 replied to SoAnnaBanana's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm in the same position you are in and I actually just called BCBS and they told me that the only requirement is: 40 BMI. Which is around 240 lbs. I really want to convert to the sleeve but my BMI is under. Have you heard anything since then about your revision. Just needed some help as well. Please let me know. Thanks. -
Question About Bcbs Of Michigan And Revision To Sleeve
SoAnnaBanana posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I have been fighting with my doctor's office over a revision. I had a band slip nearly a month ago. My surgeon wanted me to revise to sleeve. All the insurance folks are telling me BCBS of MI won't cover a revision to sleeve and that I have to have a new band installed instead. I have had so many issues with my band and don't really want to go down that road. My BMI is 34.6. I know other folks have had success getting this covered. What's the deal? -
What else can i do for gas pains?
sherrypep replied to SabrinaM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gass X strips work really well. I'm having the same issue and I walk walk walk and it is still gassy and bloated. It will pass. Revision done on May 6th, 2013 -
When I got the band I had been planning on getting a diamond band as my "reward". I got within 7lbs of my goal. I never got to goal and just started gaining almost to my band pre-op weigh. I revised to a sleeve on Thrus 02/09/12. I think I'm going to go ahead and get that diamond band as a reward for going through with the surgery. I think I deserve it! I was really scared. Afterall, I know I'll get to my goal with the sleeve and it'll serve as a reminder to follow the sleeve rules and that my sleeve won't fail me like the band did.

Just got my fill and was pretty tight but now not so much.
ParrotheadCathy replied to coolchick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
3ccs in a 4cc band seems like it should be close to your sweet spot but I can see that it might not be quite there yet. You probably have some restriction but had some swelling due to the port revision surgery and that has now abated. And that would make it seem now like you've lost restriction. Try eating really on program and see if you get hungry in less than 4 hours. That's a good indicator. -
Revision 15 years after initial Gastric Bypass surgery
celticNgel replied to drizz75's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm going through a revision from an open stomach stapling in 1990 to an RNY full Gastric Bypass. In the early days they didn't move the intestine and have found that that was the key. Doc is worried he is going to have some issues going around the old scar tissue and mesh. I'm a little worried about that, but I'm in your boat - I lost some, but never all of it. Now I'm back to my pre-surgery weight and I'm sick of it. Congratulations on wining your long fought fight!!!! -

First meeting with surgery team - trying to decide
ready2B replied to ready2B's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks all! I think I would like to go for the bypass, even though it is more invasive in some ways, I don't want the chance of having to do a revision later. And I really do want the best chance of long-term success. I have my Endo next week and that might decide it for me since I have been on medication for GERD for years but don't know how much damage was done before that. (Or even still happening). I've had a little more time to wrap my head around the idea of the big lifestyle changes that any WLS would require and I feel ready to deal with them. For me, the malabsorption with bypass is actually more in the plus column. Since I have always started gaining back weight while still dieting and eating low calories so many times in the past, I am really concerned about my body "adjusting" to just the lower calorie intake of the sleeve and gaining weight back in spite of doing everything right a few years from now. With the bypass, because your whole absorption of foods is changed, I think that would be less likely to happen. -
Hi Beaglemamma, Thank you for your encouraging post! You are such an inspiration to all of us! My insurance company didn't pay for the lap band, but it paid 100% for the revision to sleeve...and I had no complications with the band other than poor weight loss. I think insurance companies like the sleeve and are paying for it more. Thanks again!!

:confused:I researched and decided the band was for me b/c it was the less intrusive. I thought my doc was pushing the gbypass b/c that was his expertise. Well 27 months later I have not lost weight with the band. He told me today that the 10cc VG band was defective and he no longer uses them. :whatchutalkingaboutSo, I am back to square one and this time I choose a revision to remove the band and do gastric bp.

Revision to rny and Kentucky Medicaid
kimmie40351 posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I’m meeting with surgeon on Tuesday to talk about revision to rny. Question for those how have Medicaid (WellCare) did you have todo the 6 month diet? I have reflux and hiatal hernia that has to be repaired also. -
I have to have my band removed and my surgeon advised the sleeve. He is going to plead a case to my insurance, St. Mary's, and see if they will approve the surgery. My question is if anyone has this insurance, and had this revision if they were approved for it. I am so excited and it will be a few days before I hear anything so I thought I would just put it out there and see if anyone had any info! Thank you so much!

I like to believe that if I got to goal, and then lost my band, I'd be able to maintain. I've always believed that maintaining is easier than losing, and that's why I never go to goal before deciding on surgery; it was just too overwhelming to try and do it by myself. But the reality is, I'm pretty sure that if I lost my band, while I've learned alot and probably would not eat alot of the crap I used to eat preband, I would probably go up and up on my amounts and end up gaining. I suppose if I was at goal, and had been there for a little bit I MIGHT be able to hang on to it... I think there are people who are strong enough to keep going with the 'head start' that the band gives them, even if they lost it, but I'm probably not one of them. I did not consider other surgery types before being banded, but I think if I lost my band and was told I couldn't be rebanded for whatever reason, I would probably revise to something else. I just can't do it alone.

Hi, I had gastric bypass in '03, I weighed 312 the day of surgery and I lost down to 204 after surgery. At my heaviest I weighed 420lbs. I went through a messy divorce after my surgery so the pounds started to creep back on because I wasn't eating and when I did eat...it was the wrong thing. So, my life is so much better and I'm ready to dot his for me!!! I'm contemplating either the lapband or just having my pouch retightened. If there is anyone who has had a revision, I welcome any and all advice. Thank you for your time. ~SR~

I had the band placed October 29th, first fill Nov. 29th, had trouble finding port, thought they accessed port, but I felt no restriction. Port was accessed in January for the first time (after a 15 min. ordeal), then my port flipped. Had surgery on March 16th, to flip it back, site was very bulbous and swollen. On the first MD visit after the revision the steri-strips were removed, site had large amt. of blood tinged fluid leaking for 3 hours after leaving MD's office (soaked up 3 large abdominal pads). Site decreased in size after leakage, then stopped leaking. 4 days later went for a fill under fluoroscopy, MD pulled out over 20 cc bloody fluid from lower abd. Now my site is back swollen and bulbous, he told me I had a seroma (fluid filled area), now I think its back, because the site is swollen and bulbous again. Has anyone had this problem. In some of the information they say I may need a drain, if the fluid keeps coming back...I do not want that. My stomach is big, and it's not gas
