Well I scheduled my sleeve surgery for October 24th. Im a mixture of excited and scared. I feel like I've been waiting for this for so long. I just want to be healthy for my kids and myself. If anyone wants to comment about their experiences with the surgery and their life since then I would love to read them. Some photos and NSV are welcome too. Lol. I'm on call this weekend for the first time since surgery. I had to swap a piece of equipment. On a normal work day I'm wearing my uniform but on the weekends it is usually a work shirt and jeans or shorts. I stepped out of my van at a customers place my shorts fell off! O-f-f, off! Needless to say I scrambled to cover my butt and I was quite embarrASSed. The old lady got a show and apparently I got a NSV...

Well, here's a new one for me. I was unable to donate platelets today because my blood pressure is too low. The woman at the Blood Center said this is the first time in 30 years that she's ever had to defer someone for LOW blood pressure. Considering that 2 years ago my blood pressure was continuing to rise despite the meds I was taking to lower it, I'll call it a victory even though I really wanted to donate today. I am coming back next week to try donating again, with strict instructions to booze it up the night before, eat a bunch of salty foods, don't exercise that morning, and guzzle two cups of coffee before my appointment. My, how my life has changed. ????

Stupendous NSV! Congrats!

When I graduated from high school I was a size 13 and thought I was fat. Now 26 years later, I am in a size 14 pants and I couldn't be more thrilled. 99 pounds gone and healthier than I was in high school. just over 2 weeks until I run a 10 mile race! (my first - although last weekend I ran more than 11 miles) Happier and more self confident than ever. I even started teaching again this week. (I left teaching 9 years ago, not related to my weight, but...the time was right and I am now teaching ESL once a week. Can't believe how much I missed it.) I'm not sure I would have had the confidence or energy to try teaching after working a full day if I had even thought about it a year ago. I even interviewed last week on the phone for a more teaching focused position. I am just waiting to hear if I am being asked back for a second interview. Getting the job would mean moving 150+ miles to a small town, albeit near where I graduated from high school, and essentially starting over. The thought thrills me! I've stayed in the job I have now for 4 years, about 2 longer than I should have, because it was safe, but now... Is this all related to my WLS? No, but do I have the confidence and energy to even pursue these big dreams because of the surgery? Yes, most definitely. pam

Haven't lost any weight in a week

Just saw a stupid autocorrect in my post above: NSV = Non-Surgical Victories. Sorry about that! Dang! Some call them NSW = "Non-Surgical Wins" Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App -
Haven't lost any weight in a week
SusieT replied to Andre08's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No one warned me about weight stalls, but they sure do happen. Mine were at about 3 weeks and again at 6 weeks. But I agree with the poster who said only pay attention to reaching another "decade" down. Those zeros are magical! So is entering "onederland"! I probably weigh too often, but 3 months out with RnY tomorrow, and I don't get discouraged if the scale doesn't move as fast as I'd like. Instead, I celebrate" "NSV" (Non-academic Victories) : looser clothes/smaller sizes, more mobility and stamina, better emotional outlook about the future. You will make it! We are here for you! Beating yourself up nutritionally speaking
Alex Brecher replied to LisaMergs's topic in Food and Nutrition
@@LisaMergs, You did awesome! Great job on a last-minute fast food choice! It definitely wasn’t the healthiest possible food in the world, but it was an excellent choice given the circumstances. You got some Protein and kept the calories and carbs in check. Nobody is perfect, and lessons like this are great. They show that you can still come out on top even if you make mistakes, such as in this case not planning ahead and having your own food with you, and not checking the nutrition facts before ordering. Good work! I agree with @@Inner Surfer Girl that most fast food restaurants have reasonable options as long as you stop and think. Grilled chicken, eggs, side salads, and small burgers are usually possibilities – just skip the bread. Also, sides of fresh fruit including apple slices or yogurt are often available. In general, I think it’s good to have some idea of what to order at some of the major fast food restaurants just in case you end up there. I always try to know what my choices are at McDonald’s, Subway, and Starbucks since I figure there is almost sure to be one of those restaurants no matter where I am. I don’t tend to beat myself up over nutrition. I generally prefer healthy foods, and I know that even if I have some junk occasionally, I know that my diet is overall pretty healthy. Anyway, good choice, and thanks for sharing your NSV! -
NSV: Massage
Valentina replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Eeeewwww! No thank you. With my Fibro, just the idea of some one laying their hands on me and applying pressure makes me hurt. I realize that massage is wonderful of some people and helpful. It's just not for me. I guess I'll just have to keep searching for my pleasure NSV. It's out there somewhere. In the meantime, Enjoy ISG! You've certainly earned your "massage moments". Enjoy, my friend. -
@@Inner Surfer Girl This is a wonderful and enjoyable NSV. Very happy for you Congratulations!

NSV: Massage
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You're a shadow of your former self, a mere slip of a lass. This is the sort of NSV that makes weepy. -
As some of you know, one of my favorite rewards is getting a massage. I had one this week and was thinking about what progress I have made since surgery. When I started getting massages I wasn't even sure if I could get on the massage table and needed help getting on the table and off. Now, I can get on and off the table all by myself as well as turn over on the table by myself, too!

I got my surgery date scheduled FINALLY!
hats123 replied to krazykristen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As I said in your other thread, I was also self-pay in the US and borrowed a ton of money from a loved one to do it (I was open to traveling to keep costs down, but the people in my life I rely on for support and advice were resistant. I DO NOT mean they are correct or that the way I did it is the better way. I just mean that in my case it was the simpler way to accomplish this part of my goal). In retrospect I would have borrowed twice as much...we borrow so much to buy houses, if we are able and if we choose to, or cars, or whatever...this is your body and your life, and I totally get funding it any way you can. There is a steep learning curve to every part of this-- to recovery, to living with the sleeve, to helping it help you best. I'm sticking to my surgeon's program but I still make mistakes -- but I keep telling myself there's no mistake I will make twice! Each one has consequences that are too memorable - and I don't mean in a way you should scrapbook - for you to risk repeating. I know I say it in every post but I am so glad I took this step. It is helping me approach so many areas of my life in a more positive and productive way, maybe because it all but forces you to put your healthy self first (or suffer soon after). You'll also find NSVs all over the place, not just the ones you're anticipating now. I could try to list them all but it would take forever -
Just wanted to chime in that I got a two-fer when I went to my doctor light headed this week He stopped one of my blood pressure meds... hence the lightheadedness. Then he went on to remove Diabetes from my chart! I nearly cried.
