Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?
Jai D replied to armartin98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Not sure if your age but are you still menstruating? I lost 13.5 pounds post op in the first week but 2nd week and now 3 rd week I lost nothing, but week 2 was before my cycle and week 3 was my cycle.. I’m waiting for my body to get back to normal hormonal levels. I stopped weighing myself daily because it was messing with my head. I know during surgery it was my ovulation time so I expect to lose weight again after my cycle is over up until a week after ovulation and then stall again. Everyone is different but ppl don’t correlate their cycle with their weight loss stagnation or progress enough. Just mu opinion. Once you understand your luteal phase and follicular phase I find this helps tremendously. Best of luck!! -
November Surgery Buddies!!!
Spinoza replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It is really hard when the scales don't play ball or we don't lose as much as we want. I had a few gains over the holidays and man that is hard to take when you're pretty much sticking to the letter of the law. But - stalls and gains will always end if you stick to the plan. Slow steady weight loss is just as good as big whooshes and probably better for your body. I have lost 19lbs since the day of my surgery 7 weeks ago, and only 11 of those have been since I got out of hospital. But every other year since the dawn of time I would have gained 5lbs over that sort of time if I wasn't on one of my never ending diets. So WE ARE WINNING! Some just win faster than others and they're really lucky 😊 -
Off track and in need some tough love and food/snack ideas!
Spinoza replied to ajb1029's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Firstly, you have done so amazingly well this year PLUS you've seen where you're going wrong and are doing something about it, so I have no doubt at all that you will lose those last 30lbs. Everyone here has given really good advice so as a fellow sugarholic I would just echo that, especially the cutting out of all sugar, all slider foods, and going back to basics - either yes, re-set your diet with a 2 week pre-op diet stint, or straight back to 3 meals of: protein first, veg next, carbs last (or not at all) and protein-heavy snacks in between if you need them - your greek yoghurt sounds ideal. I go for slices of chicken or turkey or even ham because they are easy to carry about. Or a hard boiled egg if you're really hungry in between meals. For work lunches I love soup (heavy on the beans/lentils etc so you get your protein) or a chicken salad. Don't forget to load up on fluids before you eat and no drinking at all for at least half an hour after - if I forget and drink soon after eating I get hungry again quickly too! Best of luck - let us know how this week goes. You've already got this. -
Anyone for October 2020?
Coexister replied to barbieater's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am post op bypass 13 months ( surgery was 10/07/2020) ) and am I now drinking alcohol every night . I have gained back a few pounds Like 8 and am scared to death. I feel like I am heading back toward terrible habits and need to regain back control now. I am working with a Psychologist that's not very good for PTSD issues and major depressive disorder. I have got control of that but I have now a new problem= alcohol! A year ago, I would never think of drinking on a week night or much at all but now it's become my new addiction and it leads to me over eating and then the dreaded weight gain. I have now drank every night for the past two months and I can't seem too let it go. This had never been me before as my family is filled with alcoholics and I could never understand it and now I do? It kills pain and drowns out so much. It definitely affects me differently after surgery and takes very little to have any affect at all. I am drunk or affected at sip 3. It is such a great escapism and good lord with Covid and the way of the world all I want to do is escape in a legal way and alcohol is legal. I am on disability and have a lot of pain issues and the doctors and psych's try to say its a lot mental / PTSD/ Stress related but they haven't lived in my body. I have had over 15 surgeries and have had many scars and all kinds of mesh - They don't live this body and don't feel my pain. They tell me I need to learn to live with it. Well hell , I am doing the best I can and alcohol does a great job of dimming that. But I know I need to find a better answer and am looking to my community as I know I can't be alone in my pain or journey. My New Year's resolution is to get back to that person that doesn't drink in response to pain. That learns to deal with it. That get's her weight under control in the meantime. Sending out an SOS to my community and asking for good advice or just shared empathy to know I am not the only one and that we do not travel on this journey alone. -

Am I really gonna lose weight?
Tufflaw replied to Myrandalynn06's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Not to be cliche, but if you think you'll succeed or fail - you're right. You need to have the right mindset going into this. I did very well with my sleeve that I got in 2016, until I started slipping and put it all back on. Five years later I got the revision to bypass 6 weeks ago and it's going very well again, except now I know what to watch out for and how to (hopefully) avoid the pitfalls of last time. Believe that it will work, and do everything you can to help it work, and it will work. -
What do non-cooks eat in the 4th month?
Amy Braun replied to Amy Braun's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I find this site so cumbersome, the way you can't just reply to a comment, but that's annoying aside. There is a lot to check out at Aldi's. I found some good 100 calorie packs, like the pretzels. Of course, these have to be a once a week treat because I'm still losing and just starting my 5th month. I found some cauliflower crackers, but didn't find much substantial food. I'm going back in a few weeks to look for those shrimp fajita packs. I did see chicken. I wish you the best of luck when you plan your Aldi trip. -

Am I really gonna lose weight?
liveaboard15 replied to Myrandalynn06's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
What kind of surgery are you looking to get? You will loose weight but its a process and you have to stick to it. Which is why most hospitals have support groups, nutrition classes and such to help you. Part of my preop is attending the support groups which i have next week. -
3 days Post Op-please tell me it's going to get better
pintsizedmallrat replied to armartin98's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It absolutely will get better! My first month or two felt like hell and there were moments I regretted having the procedure but now at three months I finally feel like myself again and have gotten that burst of energy that comes with not carrying around the 76 pounds I've lost anymore! Hang in there, be strong! -
How did you figure out if you had dumping syndrome?
pintsizedmallrat replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The single incident of dumping syndrome I've had was banana baby food about 3 weeks after my surgery--and I didn't know that's what it was at the time because I have a sleeve and I thought dumping only happened to bypass patients...but I fainted in the bathroom after having made a mad dash due to "urgency". My SO called an ambulance and I ended up in the ER, and it was there after they consulted with my surgeon's office that they told me it was likely dumping syndrome. That was the first time I had sugar after my procedure and I've since been able to eat limited amounts of other fruits (I'm 3 1/2 months post-op now), but I had to proceed with caution when introducing them. -
Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?

25 days out and down 18 pounds. I am sticking to the once a week weigh in. I agree that it feels like it’s coming off sooo slooow. I reminded myself that I would have overeaten over the holidays so I “saved” 10 more pounds. We all need Jedi mind tricks. How are folks doing with their vitamins? I’m not as consistent as I want to be yet. Doing a once a day chewable bariatric vitamin and 3 patches - Vitamin D, vitamin B and Collagen. -

Feel like I'm starving, Day 6
LouLouM replied to LouLouM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm updating here because I know that when I have a question, I search the forums looking for content similar to what I'm going through. My surgery was November 30th, which I think puts me in week 5, and although I can't just anything, I am definitely eating a lot more solid food and I have to say that I am way more satiated and full for much longer. So for anyone in the very early phases who might be feeling crazy hungry and discouraged, it's gets way better, very early on! Hang in there! -

Question - I was loosing .5 a day average post op. Today I’m out day 13 and I haven’t lost anything since I started purée phase 4 days ago. I know a stall at a normal around week 3 but is this normal? I’m eating tuna because that’s all I seem to tolerate. Anyone else having this issue? I’m walking daily and have an appt on the 13th with the nutritionist hoping that’ll get things moving. -
Sorry to hear that! Mine said they would cancel a week ahead of time so probably tomorrow. At least now you can go eat something! Sent from my SM-G991U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hello All, Reading this forum for a few months has taught me that everyone is a little different. But today, I am looking for some 'misery loves company' friends. If you are able, riddle me this. Why are there times you get so cold? I do not understand. As for context, I am a few weeks post surgery. Things are going well...just wondering who gave me a membership into this Polar Bear Club. I wasn't looking to join a club where members are forced to freeze nearly to death. Through my years, I have always been a warm person...temperature wise that is. To say it another way, I have always been a "scrub a little too hard and I can sweat in the shower" kind of person. But, as Bob Dylan once said, "The times, they are a changin." Let me explain. There are times when I am on the couch. I am dressed in warm clothes and thick, comfy socks. I am under at least two or three hefty blankets. There is a fire in the fireplace. A large labrador retriever that goes by the name of Bella is curled up beside me sharing her warmth. Yet, I still shiver to my bones. What the hell is going on here? As odd as this may sound, I have actually worn a winter hat inside of my own house because I cannot get warm. But a few hours will pass and, suddenly, I feel like I am back to normal. During these 'winter wonderlands,' my beautiful wife is wearing shorts, no socks and a flimsy t-shirt. As she lifts her hair in an attempt to cool herself, she proclaims the problem is with me. So I have a few questions for you. Perhaps you can help me. 1) Have you experienced this same issue? 2) Does it go away? If so, when? 3) Does anyone really know what causes it? 4) Why am I not cold all the time? Thanks for all of your sharing. Hopefully your wisdom will provide me with some new knowledge. I wish each of you the most wonderful, healthy and fulfilling days ahead. Best, AnotherGuy

I had VSG on Tuesday, was back to work Monday. But I have a desk job and work from home full time, so no commute, no having to huff around a building, no dealing with other humans. And, even then, the first week or so I took a nap after work every single day. The pain was extremely minimal, but the fatigue and exhaustion was pretty intense. By 2 weeks post-op I felt mostly normal, or normal enough to make it through the day without a catnap.

I had RNY in August and have a desk job. Here was my timeline. I had my surgery on Monday. Left the hospital on a Wednesday. I did some very minor work (respond to emails, etc) on Friday at home. The entire next week, I worked mornings from home, just a few hours so I didn't fall too far behind (I had worked with my boss to get ahead of schedule prior to the surgery). Two weeks to the day after my surgery, I went back to the office. My only issue was some minor stomach discomfort from sitting and wearing dress pants (I am/was a big guy and wear them around my waist/stomach). My boss said I could temporarily wear sweatpants at my desk, with the understanding I would change back to dress pants if I had a meeting to go to. That lasted about a week or two before I was fully back to normal.

Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?
Jai D replied to armartin98's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats! You are almost at onederland. I was 241.5 surgery date. Didn’t lose anything before surgery (Dec 17th) which was annoying since I wasn’t eating and I was walking 10,000 steps a day minimum. 7 days out of surgery I was down to 228 (13.5 lb loss) and then stagnated at 228 for about the next 2 weeks. Pretty sure pms and my menstrual cycle prevented me from losing more weight. I stopped obsessing over the scale because I was feeling like I wasn’t losing after the first initial loss so now I will only weigh in this coming Friday and every Friday thereafter, however I do feel the difference in my close. I can’t wait to be out of the 200’s. It hasn’t even been 3 weeks out of surgery but I want to be “skinny” already lol, but I also don’t want the extra loose skin so I need to remind myself to be patient and be positive that I am on my way to a healthier life. Also I can’t remember the last time I lost 13.5 lbs so fast so I need to see that as a win! You are on your way as well. Happy for you and that you are feeling better now and seeing results! -
A textbook is a great idea. Something that someone studying to become a nutritionist or dietician would start out with. Yea that cauliflower pasta has cauliflower as the first ingredient but it also lists three kinds of flour so it’s not exactly pure. These are the things I want to be able to recognize. Yea I just have the lunchable or P3 out of convenience. Well that and I am a creature of habit. I guess I could stand to switch it up a bit at lunchtime. I just get lazy and do what works. Lol. Anyways, thanks for the idea of the textbook and the suggestions.
