  1. You look amazing!!! I can’t wait to be cleared to work out!!! I’m walking 2 miles a day and just over 2 weeks post op. This was so inspiring thank you for sharing it!!!
  2. Hey Guys! So I have a date (again), it's March 8th - meaning my 2 week "liquid" diet will start Feb 22. The short month of February makes me feel like I've been granted a shortcut somehow! Who else has a date for March??
  3. Hi. I had mine the 13th of December and am already on the third diet phase. I’m struggling a lot. I eating what I’m not and I’m regretting this at the moment. I’ve lost 35 in the last three weeks.
  4. Very impressive! Congratulations! I’ve lost about 50 lbs since surgery and 70 lbs total I think. Weightloss has slowed down significantly. I’m losing about 1-2 pounds a week max now. Fine with it though. Only a few more pounds til a healthy bmi 🤩
  5. Hello all, Has anyone here had a hiatal hernia repair after already having the sleeve? I was sleeved in 2014 and all was going well ( uneventful recovery, Good weight loss and maintenance) until I got pregnant with my second child last year. I started to have some bad acid reflux in my third trimester ( burning pain, shortness of breath) and found out during a barium swallow and endoscopy that I have a ‘small sliding hiatal hernia’ but have not been told how exactly how big/ small the defect is. I have dysphagia which is better some days but the most persistent symptom is shortness of breathe/ a ‘tickle’ in my chest that does not want to go away. I stopped my PPI a few weeks ago for the manometry test after weaning for a little while and the rebound hyperacidity has been awful ( thank heavens for gaviscon) In any case, i’m supposed to be meeting with my surgeon later this month to discuss results and like some of you, I would prefer not to convert to rny if I can have this addressed some other way. I would love to hear your stories!

My Six Day Step Streak is in Jeopardy

I like "Reps to the Rhythm" videos on youtube. It's my favorite "walking" type of video (although it's more intense and "dance-y" then some - so more of a cross between a walking video and something like Zumba). He has a bunch of different lengths of videos - and they're rated by color (I think the red ones are the most intense - but there's at least one blue one that I know of that's pretty intense - and my favorite one to boot). Anyway, the longer ones would give you 10,000 steps. Or you could do two or three of the shorter ones (he does include the step counts on his videos)

    Help

Stalls are normal post -WLS just like they were when dieting before the surgery. Follow your surgeon's guidelines on how much to eat, how much to drink, how much protein to get, etc, and you'll see results.

    Exercise

You can't lift much until at least four weeks out, but after that you're good to go. Start slow.
  9. Two things: - Emotions: definitely talk to someone about why and how you eat. Doing a journal with food + emotions for a week or two will be insightful, but reach out to someone. - Mitigation: we tend to really fall off the wagon if we have no strategies in place. I think I have literally 250+ snacks in my house at the moment that are better than saying 'oh f* it, I'm just going to have ice cream then'. That way, I never really fall off the wagon because there's always something to catch me (a Chocorite chocolate bar, light popcorn, popsicles, popped cheese ... you see where I'm going with this). We're all human, we can't be perfect. But sometimes, we can be a little better than 'disaster'.
  10. There are a few things you can rely on during the weight loss phase. One is that your rate of weight loss will slow as you progress. For many of us the month are the hardest because they’re the slowest in terms of weight loss. You’re still losing about a pound a week & this is fine especially considering you’ve been indulging lately. Stopping the indulging & getting back on plan is up to you. You know what you should be doing. Get the temptations out of your house if you can. Before eating ask yourself why you are reaching for food. Are you truely hungry or bored or seeking comfort. Do you need to eat or just want to. Then look for something to distract yourself. Read, watch tv, do a craft, go for a walk, clean out a cupboard, check your social media or this forum, etc. Sip on a glass of water or a cup of tea. Often waiting 30 minutes before indulging is enough for the desire to disappear. Good luck.
  11. Diarrhoea after surgery is quite common. For some it’s a one off but others experience it for days. A friend’s surgeon actually advises his patients to wear disposable underwear for the first week for this reason. She was really pleased she did. I wish I knew about it because I had to toss underwear - it could not be saved. Oh & beware the liquid wind. During surgery they fill your abdomen with gas to inflate the area so they can see what they are doing. It will take a few days for it to fully escape your body. You may notice pain in your shoulder. Walk around the ward, around your house, little & often helps. Give Gas X a try too. All the best.

    Panniculectomy worth it?

I’m a week out post op. I can see results already. My insurance paid for it. I was shocked that they would because although I had excess skin it wasn’t to bad. I can definitely see a difference though even through the swelling! My surgeon said that minor fixes can be discussed (ie dog ear and fluid) if need be. I’m 52 years old and my mother in law 79 yes young as well as my sister in law 66 years young are also going to get it! Lol on the meds right now so not sure if I’ve provided a little information/ personal experience to you. I think they have to refer to it this way plus liposuction and muscle repair isn’t included. I want to add that my surgeon went a little bit past my hips and I was like waaaa when I saw this!

    Any August 2021 Bypassers?

I’m in the same boat. The holiday season threw me off. I will also admit to getting tired of feeling cold and tired, so the extra treats during holidays kept me toasty. I’m trying to get my weightloss groove back without being too extreme. So I looked back at my logbook. I loose weight when I drink all my water. I got back into it this week. I loose weight when I track my food. Still working on that, I was doing well half of this week. I know I can do better next week. I know I loose weight when I plan my meals. Gotcha, that took more effort and shopping but I did my planning and prep. Ok now I remember I loose weight when I switch my exercise up instead of the same old routine. Gotta plan that, think heavier weights, new class, new machine at home? What else could help me/you? Maybe more micronutrients, or vitamin D, or a phone call to friends or family, or a hobby to keep those hands busy, guitar, or crochet, a massage, I don’t know what makes you feel fulfilled or relaxed but I’m going to try them. I’ve lost 115lbs since Sept. 2020, but only 43lbs since surgery in Aug. 2021. I’m 5’4 or 163 cm and I’m half done with the weightloss phase. Oh yeah, my co-workers told me of an ax throwing place near me because people are so angry at covid, they go to this place to throw axes at stuff in a room! I also heard of a place that lets you smash stuff for 30 minutes for a fee. There’s pumpkins and dishes and stuff like that there. I like going to baseball batting cages and hitting balls, but they’re closed in the winter. Start googling ideas!

    Back to ER

I had my 6 week checkup with the surgeon. He said that if the hernia is still bothering me at the 6 month mark he will go back in and fix it. He's hoping that once the swelling goes down more it will cause fewer problems. It's such a small hernia I'm surprised it is so troublesome! Since I guess I just love trouble, I'm having an ultrasound of my gallbladder next week to see if it needs to be removed. Fingers crossed that it stops hurting and behaves! 😂 He reassured me that I don't have to try to eat/drink as much as the dietician keeps telling me which is a big relief. With everything going on in my insides, I am seriously not hungry and eating is very uncomfortable.

    Weight gain

Well, I am still on my liquid pre-op diet, and I don't find it heart-breakingly bad...I think if I need to jolt my system, I'll try that again for a week. (I have candy for visitors on my desk, and have not touched it, and I adore sweets, so..)

    Gastric bypass surgery

Well, I'm sure someone has posted this, but I have always heard that, on a severely restricted diet, after a few weeks, the body actually "thinks" it is starving, and slows down your metabolism. In olden times, when there was a famine, it was the way your body helped you to survive longer on less food! So it's natural. You will start losing again.

    Potatoes 5 weeks out

Almost 3 weeks out. Just enjoyed a couple sausage links
  18. To be honest. I drove the next night after surgery. I didn’t drive far though. Luckily I live in a neighborhood where everything is close by. I really had no problems after surgery aside from being tired. Many things I’ve read about I did not have to deal with. I am having a very easy recovery with a few minor “hiccups” here and there. The hardest thing in the 1st 10 days was that I was tired. Now I’m not tired at all. I have yet to drive more than 20 minutes but I feel like I’d be fine driving at least 45 minutes to an hour. I’ll probably take an hour drive this weekend which will be 3 weeks post op.

    4 weeks post op

Stalls are very common in the first month or so & can last 1-3 weeks. Also common is the change to our taste buds & some also become sensitive to smells. It does pass but in the meantime it is a lot of trial & error to find foods you can eat. Sometimes a change of shake flavour or brand is all it takes. From week 5 most plans start soft foods. Try some of the foods you’re allowed: maybe scrambled eggs, yoghurt, mince, slow cooked soups & casserole style foods, etc. The bigger concerns are the pain, low fluid intake & consuming very little. Contact your surgeon or go to your nearest medical centre. You shouldn’t still be experiencing pain and you could be dehydrated. All the best.
  20. Hi y'all! I was sleeved December 08, 2021. Surgery Weight: 263 Current Weight: 231 Obviously I know I won't continue to lose at this same rate in the upcoming months but getting such a huge head start has been such a motivation. The struggle will come when I don't see those same numbers and I'm just going to have to remember that slow and steady wins the race. Even though weight loss has been great thus far my energy has sucked. I'm meeting my liquid and protein goals daily and taking a bariatric multivitamin. I don't know if it's just that I have a very active job (Bartender- lots of lifting, squatting, stocking, walking- usually 4-6 miles a day) and I'm currently consuming only a third of the calories I used to....or if its just my Hashimoto's flaring up with all the stress on my body of late, hoping things begin to equalize in the next few weeks though. Being this tired all the time is a real bummer.

    Potatoes 5 weeks out

I'm 7 weeks post sleeve and I have had mashed potatoes since about week 3. Like a teaspoonful at the end of my dinner when 've had my protein and veg. And I had half a roast potato at christmas. I'm Irish, I couldn't live a full life without them, but yes, even I would advise concentrating on more nutrient dense foods at this stage and having tiny amounts only as a treat food!

    Gastric bypass surgery

23 lbs in two weeks is actually phenomenal. You are ahead of the curve. It was probably six weeks before I'd lost that much. you're probably in a stall right now. Most of us have our first major stall during the first month or so after surgery. It's called the "three week stall" because it's usually the third week, but not always. Typically lasts 1-3 weeks. Just stick to your plan and stay off the scale for a few days. As long as you follow your plan the stall the break and you'll be on your way again. if you want to read more about this, search this site for "three week stall". Last time I checked, there were over 17,000 posts on it. And no, I am NOT kidding. It happens to almost all of us.
