  1. Thank you to everyone. I am scheduled this week for our first ultrasound. Hopefully we get to hear the heartbeat and get to see baby. As for my nutritionist I have an appointment this Friday in which I will talk to her and ask if there is anything different I need to be eating. I am currently taking all my vitamins daily plus my prenatal vitamin. I've also been keeping up with my water intake daily as well as follow my health diet including 70g of protein a day. Calorie intake has been at around 1000 calories but I know that the nutritionist wants me to go up to 1200 calories. It's just a little difficult for me at this time as I feel so nauseas at this stage in the pregnancy. Fairlife chocolate protein shake has been a life saver as I can drink that slowly and that covers 30g of protein for my day. I will try to keep everyone updated on my experience. Thank you all once again and happy mother's day to all the lovely moms.
  2. Been overweight since puberty. Starved to lose weight to be a normal teenage girl. i walked and jogged and starved. Had two boys by 23 yrs old. Gallbladder removed at 23 years old. Gained weight afterward. Divorces and lifes ups and downs along with the scale. Ate Atkins/Keto for seven years. Fell off and back on occasionally. Went from 236 in 2013 to 184 in 2015. Moved to NC and lost to 179 after Covid. Put that back on and then some. Hysterosalpingo-oophorectomy 2004. No hormone replacement therapy due to family hx. of ca. Struggle with Keto last seven years. Cannot eat "normal" without gaining weight. So sick of struggling. Hope that this surgery will be a great tool to get back to my "fighting weight" of 135. I am 5'2 3/4" I now have fibromyalgia, osteo arthritis, UCTD, Sleep Apnea, high cholesterol, and occasional high bp and inflammation in my hands, legs, etc.. Its time to get healthy again. If any of you are approximately 200lb or any weight for that matter, I would love to pen pal. I have pre-op jitters. Scared the closer May 24th approaches. I want this but the rest of my life with this WOE scares me so much. I have a really good appetite and I am afraid of failure.
  3. My surgery is coming fast, it was moved up via a cancellation to next week, eek! I’m a combo of fear of the unknown, and calmness of giving it up to the professionals to care for me. I’m over 60 and really never considered I could stop the diet cycle by having WLS. A family member had it, and was happy they did it, this and knowing a few WLS veterans happy with their surgery, spurred me on to do gastric bypass. They had a good recovery with no issues. I’m hoping for a great outcome and that it resolves my Gerd and sleep apnea in time as well. I fear pain, hair loss, complications, how I’ll feel about all that skin, regrets. I look forward to many positive body changes, more energy, onederland, not being obese, cuter clothes 😀 I appreciate everyone sharing here! I’ve learned a lot.
  4. It is pretty quick once you complete all the requirements but many people if they are going through insurance are required to do a 3-6 month medically managed weight loss attempt. It’s just an insurance hoop you have to jump through which requires you to go to an appointment monthly and get weighed but it has to be completed before they submit to insurance for approval if it’s required.

    TMI question 🙋‍♀️

A week. I eventually had to take something to get it moving along. After that, I guess I am one of the 'lucky' ones! I go everyday/every second day and I don't take anything for it.

    What's Your Food Nemesis?

Coffee with A LOT of sugar & had to have half/half as well. I had surgery on 4-13 & that for sure was the most difficult habit to break. At one point I was drinking 3 XL Dunkins a day. Right before surgery I was at about a pot, so it's been hard! Tried to compensate with flavored naturally decaf teas, stevia & different no sugar/ no dairy creamer. Just not the same so I stopped 😪 can't wait until I can have maybe a very small cup of regular! Lol

    Surgery Consult June 3rd

Once you complete all the pre op testing, Its typically very quick but of course some surgeons could be booked out for a while. Once i completed all my pre op testing the surgery was scheduled for i think a 3 weeks later. and only because i had to do a 2 week pre op diet.

    TMI question 🙋‍♀️

I had diarrhea for a few days, then a bout of constipation for about a week and have been regular ever since.
  9. Once I had all my classes and appointments completed, I had my last appointment with the surgeon (to be cleared for surgery) the following week (April 23rd) and I was scheduled for surgery within a month (May 21st). Now, 6 weeks later. No regrets! Good luck to you and your journey.

    Gastric bypass

I’m 60 and scheduled for RNY next week

    TMI question 🙋‍♀️

I have only had watery bm and that started about day 3 post op. I know I'm not bypass, but I was basically told the same thing by my surgeon. And I took Colace on day 3 to get any movement at all by that night. Since I'm still on all liquids, I *assume* I'm not doing a solid bm and it's basically water because of that.

    my dinner

I’m on week three after surgery and stuck eating runny soups and refried beans! It’s crazy how different the rules are. I can’t wait to eat a plate of food that looks like that. It looks like heaven!
  13. I have been reading through these they are great by the way. I'm going through some of the same things. 1. I couldn't take my rings off without a huge effort and plenty of lotion. Now I can yeah without issues or lotion. 2. I can get up off the couch without rocking. 3. Not having to go in the big girl section for clothes 4. My daughter asked me what happened to my hands I was oh they just aren't fat anymore lol. She thought something was wrong. 5. Towels fitting right 6. Being able to walking longer and more often. 7. Being more flexible and energetic during sexy time. Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Weight loss stall

I'm tracking my food. I get about 1000-1200 calories per day. I focus on protein and fluids, as the doctor has recommended. I've taken a couple days to increase the calorie intake to jump start things, but it's fairly difficult to do so. I've increased fiber substantially because of "You know what", so things are better in that area as well. I've also increased the amount of exercise, and have been more active in yard work on top of that. I feel like I destroyed my stomach for no reason now. I simply don't understand why I'm stuck. The doctors said stalls are common and get more calories, but it hasn't worked. Any other person with my body type would melt off calories at 1-1.2k per day with exercise.

    Lab orders without doctor

Why don’t you need lab work done anymore? I’m three years (well will be on Friday) & I still have them done about every three months. I see my surgeon’s colleague In two weeks & I have a blood test scheduled for next week. Don’t know how long this will continue though or if it will become less frequent. Maybe it’s just different surgeons & programs around the world. Have to admit I am pleased I do have them frequently. It’s how we picked up my protein malabsorption issue after my gall removal last year & picked up a seasonal drop in my vitamin D levels in winter (level still ok just something to be aware of). PS - Many blood tests are covered by our public health system (Medicare) in Australia so I haven’t had to pay for any of mine.
  16. You know I've been going though clothes sizes pretty fast. It would be cool if there was a place for bariatric patients to share and swap clothes. Just because we go through sizes so fast. That way we didn't have to buy clothes in a size we only be in for a few weeks or months. Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app

    TMI question 🙋‍♀️

Hello, I had a BM about 3 days after surgery. I didn't take any medicine, it was just natural. Although, the sugar free popsicles did not agree with my stomach so it was diarrhea.

    5 Weeks Post-Op

Ugh! Just broke my stall that lasted about 2-3 weeks! Hopefully you did too! As for snacks, my doc told me it’s perfectly normal to feel hungry more often so it’s okay to snack, just mindful snacking. Good luck!

    5 Weeks Post-Op

Hi! I had my surgery about 5 weeks ago too on April 4th. I still have the restrictions and can’t really eat past 2-3 ounces but I am noticing myself getting more snacky in between meals, so that is a bit concerning to me as well. As silly as it sounds I have been starting to worry that my stomach is growing back lol. In the beginning I wouldn’t feel so snacky but now I am, and not to mention the infamous 3 week stall I have hit for 2 weeks now! But tomorrow is weigh in day and I pray I broke it. i haven’t even eaten fruits yet as my diet says I can’t until like 3months, lucky you because I REALLY want a pineapple. good luck to you and I’m sure everything will be fine. Just try to track what you’re eating it really makes a difference and makes you more conscious, so even if you don’t feel the restriction you are still putting nutrients and protein in your body.

    May 2022 surgery?

    May 2022 surgery?

I'm May 18 and start a one week liquid fast this Tuesday. My head is spinning from reading so many books/articles/blogs but the best information has come from reading everyone's comments in this forum. You guys are all so kind and helpful. Your comments and responses make me hopeful that I can pull this off and be a part of your supportive community! I'm 78 (very healthy) and hope to blaze a trail for older people who still want to stay active. Even just one lb. a year adds up to an "obese" BMI . Very discouraging. Good luck to all of the May surgeries . . . new life is right around the corner.
  22. It is 7.20 am here and I am ready to go into hospital to have my RNY done at midday. I did so much better on two week liquid diet than I thought I would. I am proud of myself for this. Mostly packed and will be at the hospital by lunch time. I had decided to only tell 2 people about it irl but I outed myself accidentally by posting details on my facebook timeline. That has kinda taken the shine off today. Hopefully I will be able to laugh at some stage but not yet. Looking forward to the future. One with hope.

    Does flavored coffee have calories?

It's the sugar in the K-cups that makes it 70 calories. If you just switch to ground coffee (no sugars), it's less than 3 calories per serving. https://www.nutritionix.com/i/great-value/creamy-hazelnut-ground-coffee/60b15428794e131b82903405

    What's Your Food Nemesis?

I love pasta and chips too but sadly I will tell you it doesn't go away...especially the 2 week liquid diet (or more) you'll miss food sooo much and crave it. Best to develop the right mindset, find healthy alternatives when you can eat solid food and find the right coping mechanisms. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Stomach capacity

You will know very soon what full feels like after the bypass, once you get to solid foods. I had 3 ounces of sliced beef for lunch and I had to stop at 2 ounces. It always feels like my chest and/or stomach will explode if I continue. If I don't stop, i.e. I ignore the pressure... I would then get the foamies or a terrible runny nose and congestion.
