    Post Op Rants!!

I lost 10 pounds week one then only one pound since and I’ll be 4 weeks out this coming Tuesday. I’ve lost 29 pounds total from liquid to now. My Nutritionist told me I need to push my calories to 1200 a day to start loosing again. I’m walking 3 miles a day now so I’m super frustrated l. I was vegan preop and I was loosing way more than this and I’ve questioned if this was smart or not. My husband, surgeon and Nutritionist keep telling me to be patient I’ll loose eventually… but when? We shalll see I suppose I only had 100 to loose so now I have around 70 it is encouraging to see you’ve lost 107

    Post Op Rants!!

Yep, no doubt about it stalls SUCKS!
  3. That moment during your wls journey that the weight loss starts to slow down and you hit a wall 🧱 and the dreadful stall begins then you start juggling 2-3 lbs up and down up and down ughhhh after loosing 104lbs in 7months i couldn't have hit that wall any harder i literally just want to scream its so discouraging and such hard work physically and mentally.....
  4. Chicken was my go-to for some weeks as soon as I was allowed proper solids. Chicken with gravy, or cold chicken and a bit of mayo. Always went down well and has a good protein hit. Thigh/leg meat is nicer than breast but then that's always been my opinion. I had lamb and beef and pork too pretty early on - basically whatever I was cooking for the family!

    Revision because of Complications

I'm 18 days post op from my revision. I had RNY in 2007 and about 5 years ago, I started getting small bowel obstructions. Surgeon thought it was scar tissue, so I went in for an exploratory laparoscopy expecting minimal recovery, and I came out with a brand new bottom half of my bypass (rare issue called intussusception). For about a week, I was sore and tired and needed the pain meds. The biggest thing post op is to get your protein and vitamins in. The fatigue was the most debilitating but I ended up adding some extra vitamin D, B and omega 3s and it made a world of a difference. I have a desk job and after about 5 days I could sit and work for a few hours at a time before I needed a break. I've made sure to keep my social calendar empty so I can reserve my energy for the 'must do's'. I'm on purees now and I'm feeling better each day. Best of luck to you and I hope they're able to fix your issue soon! Sent from my SM-G991U using BariatricPal mobile app

    July 2021 Surgery People!

Had my surgery July 15, 2021. Down 68 pounds. In November I hit a stall that lasted well into the first week of January. I just started losing again last week. I am happy with my progress and still hopeful I will hit my target eventually. Would love to hear how others are doing.

6 Almost 6 months out and have lost

I am 6 months out and have lost about 68 pounds. I had been stalled since the end of November and sought advice from my nutritionist. She said to to keep on keeping on. So I did and suddenly this past week, I started losing again. I go by volume rather than oz. But I eat 3/4 a cup at a time. Eat between 800-1000 calories a day. Work out at the gym 3 times a week and do 30 minutes of cardio 6 days a week. I wish it were more and I have certainly not my surgeons goals at any check up, but I am close. He wanted me to be at 160 by my February appt. I am not sure I am going to make that, but I will be within 10lbs of it.

Are you a member of the polar bear club?

I am 6 months and still freezing- all the time. I do notice that when I keep up on my movement/exercise goals in addition to my macro goals it is not nearly as bad as the days/weeks when I don't. So I am learning it is important to keep that metabolism up and keep the fires burning not just for weight loss but for warmth!

    VSG SURGERY

I’m almost a month out and saw my nutritionist Thursday because I’ve only lost a pound the past 2 weeks m. I use an app for my calories and water and even though I’m getting in my water my calories are under 750. She told me to up my calories and it should break the stall. So my advice is follow the protocol you’ve been given and if you feel unsure etc see if you can get into your nutritionist- it made all the difference in the world to me and calmed my anxiety way way down.
  11. All the fricking time! My fingers, nose, and toes are permanent icicles now! I live on the Gulf of Mexico, lol, it's been in the 70s this week and I'm dressed like I'm about to trek through the arctic.
  12. I am hitting 4 weeks Tuesday I saw my Nutritionist this past Thursday she told me to get a rotisserie chicken and cook it in the crock pot with some broth and even vegis she said eat one or two small bites the first time and wait and hour see how I do. She also said I could take lentil or vegi pasta (I have celiacs can’t eat gluten so that’s what I ate anyway) too it with some ricotta cheese and marinara sauce. Again 1-2 small bites see how I do. I’m so over canned tuna and chicken and soup I seriously only had protein shakes yesterday the thought of eating anything else was just not something I can do. She told me wait for crackers and breads until 3 months out because it can still hurt my tummy. I can eat, of course, baked or grilled fish etc. sweet potatoes and she said I can have a small amount of white mashed if I want but not much not often
  13. I went to solids at 4 weeks as well. I was dying for real food after 5 weeks pre op liquid only diet, and 3 weeks of full solids and soft foods. I slow cooked some beef stew all day. It was absolutely divine.
  14. I'm 3 1/2 weeks post op and everything goes down almost too well. I'm on soft foods until 6 weeks out and then I can try everything. Sushi and sashimi went down well even though I could only have 2-3 pieces. I chew and chew everything I eat.

    Home Care Aide after Brachioplasty

When I had my brachioplasty a year ago I also had a lower body lift at the same time. Before I went to the hospital I set my kitchen up so I wouldn't have to reach up or bend over. I borrowed my brother's countertop microwave because mine is over the stove. I also live alone. I got straws for my drinks because you can't bend your arms very much for the first couple of weeks. (My incisions went below the elbow, midway between the elbow and my wrist.) My brother came by daily for the first couple of weeks and brought me food, otherwise I ate easy stuff like yogurt, protein shakes, soup or stuff that didn't require anything other than the microwave. I really didn't feel the need for a full-time caretaker. The one thing that was uncomfortable for a long time though was driving, but I did it anyway! I didn't have drains in my arms but I did have 4 for my lower body lift and was able to manage those alone. Good luck with your surgery. I'm having my 3rd (and hopefully last) plastic surgery on Thursday. I'm getting my thighs done.

    Thigh Lift

It will be an incision down the inside of the thigh and the front of my leg in the fold and I'm also having a second procedure with an incision in the gluteal fold to remove excess skin in the lower butt. I'm taking 6 weeks off work for recovery, whether I need that long or not. I'm a nurse, walk several miles a day, and want to make sure I can do that before I go back.

    October surgery friends??

This is my second stall so far. The first one was around 3 weeks. I felt incredibly nauseous and couldnt go to the bathroom. It was bad! But then from one day to the next it just clicked and the weight was falling off. So far I’ve lost 61lbs with my surgery having been on the 28th of September. But now since 4 weeks that hasnt chaged at all and I’ve been stuck. I hear you on having to be patient! I will admit I do struggle with this but having people to talk to really helps.
  18. What were some of the first solid foods you tried that went down well? I’m 2 weeks post op and beginning at 4 weeks I’ll start solids. I’m just trying to get some ideas! Thanks!

    October surgery friends??

I was at a stall as well, it's like after 4-6 weeks your body adjusts and tries to hang onto the weight we want to lose. I did all of the above and stepped up my exercise and started losing again. I'm close to 3 months, and down 30 # since sleeve surgery, total down 48# since March. Hardest thing to remember is losing weight slower versus all at once is better for you, and it will happen in time.

    October surgery friends??

I also scaled back on introducing new food and went back to the soft food phases for a few days and I also increased my protein intake. For three days , I did all water and protein, no extra snacks. This seemed to help tremendously.

    October surgery friends??

I’m currently in that 4 week long stall it seems 😬😬 did you change anything besides drinking more water? My scale keeps going up and down the same 2-3lbs and its agony!!

Yep. The hospitals in Washington State are overwhelmed. The governor has mandated a four-week hold on any elective surgeries.

    Disappointed Surgeons

My surgeon was nothing but supportive. She never chastised me for not reaching goal but encouraged me to keep trying lose another 20 pounds. She understood when I gained COVID weight. But as for you . . . you're still healing from the surgery. Your body is stall adapting and adjusting. You are about to hit a stall, by the way, just to let you know that everyone stalls starting somewhere between Weeks 3 and 5. Be kind to yourself. Don't let any negativity on the office staff's part get you down. You are on a journey. Good luck!
