Will I be able to go out to a wedding five weeks after my surgery
JanetPRN replied to Midemali's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I went to a wedding 4 weeks post op. I had a great time, You probably wont be hungry so make smart choices. I also had a ready-to-drink shake in my car to ensure that my protein needs were met. I pushed the food around the plate and no one was any the wiser. Enjoy! -
food taste different?
bmbrush413 replied to jmarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had that for the first few weeks - definitely ketosis. It's awful. I'm past that now - getting more calories in - but I still can't drink plain water. Thank goodness for SoBe Life Water Zero and Vitamin Water Zero!! -
I hate to say this but when I was having my TOM. I had 1 of those gherridelli squares for 2 days. I just had to have something. Before I could go through a whole bag in one sitting. Now I've had a bag in my house for over a week and actually forgot it was there until I opened the cabinet. I still haven't had any. I'm waiting for next month. Lol. As far as husbands go, mine has been supper supportive and has started eating better. While ive lost 40 lbs he's lost 15. He doing great.

2 Week Insurance Approval Wait
choc_thicktothin replied to lylymarey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also very fortunate to not have a long insurance wait. I think they tell everyone 2/3 weeks for a response but I have read alot of others in this forum getting their decision in a matter of days. My paperwork was submitted on July 26th and I was given my approval on July 31st. Unfortunately, I have to wait until October 11th to have my surgery because my surgeon is so awesome in with VSG procedures, the waiting list is 2 months out. I am patient and staying involved in the process. I wish you luck and definitely recommend PATIENCE!! This is a life changing experience for us all. I will also follow you along your journey... -
2 Week Insurance Approval Wait
kimmyiet replied to lylymarey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you! I'm getting excited, I've just been trying to stay busy and not think about it to much. My doctor does not require a pre op but i've been doing my own and I can't tell you if I lost weight because i refuse to get on the scale. I will know the truth this Wednesday when i have my pre-op appointment. That's probably when the nerves will take over.. LOL... As for as purchasing anything major just the normal things for my hospital stay. I hope your decisions goes by fast maybe they'll surprise you and give you a decision one day this week coming.. Good luck!! -
I imagine everybody's psyche evaluation varies somewhat, but mine consisted of a brief oral conversation with the doctor, then a very long test where the answers to the statements are either agree or disagree. It was about the dumbest test I've ever seen! I literally laughed out loud more than once over some of the statements....for instance, one said "My soul leaves my body" and then "I would like to be an auto racer," "Once a week or oftener I become very excited." Of course they have 'normal' statements like " I have very few headaches," and "I have no fear of water." It is easy to figure out how any of the questions should be answered.

Ok so I have my psych evaluation in a week and I am filling out my pre appointment paperwork and now I am a little worried. I have a bipolar mom and I have been diagnosed as OCD in the past and I am now worried that this may keep me from passing the evaluation. I am a depressed person but mostly bc of my weight and I am not on medication for it so I don't think that will be a concern but bc my mother is clinically diagnosed and takes medication for bipolar and it can be hereditary. I know I should be honest but I almost feel like I want to keep that info out of the psych evaluation. Has anyone else been in this same situation and experienced a good outcome?

Banders-show me your typical daily meal....
maziemommy replied to marieze's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded April 2, 2007... now 6 months later, and 4 fills, lost 70#.... Breakfast... was 1/2 Atkins pre-mixed shake in a can. Lunch........ was Mexican shrimp cocktail (soup of tomato base avocado pieces, white onion fine chopped, spices/herbs, and shrimp/cut in three pieces each) maybe about 1/2 cup?? Dinner........ was "Steak and Shake's" veggie/beef soup-1/2 cup?...(very little beef, it was too dry) and a tiny burger patty-no bun-with mustard relish on it. And now it is around 9:15 pm. and I am still quite full! I should have eaten only the soup for dinner.... I got the patty of burger for added protein....it was fried --I should have skipped it and I would have been fine. Good luck on your journey. -

So Whats My Real Weight?
Webchickadee replied to Sandra_Baby87's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just as readyforachange says, I weight myself in the morning right after peeing. I am naked except for my underwear, and in our house, we use the Wii Fit rather than a scale. It keeps a full history of weights and BMI's over time. Sometimes it's nice to see where you were a month, or a year ago. I'm having my sleeve surgery in 12 days (yeah!) and am currently on Day 4 of the 2 week pre-op liquid diet. I'm tempted to weigh myself in the evening too (especially since I've been really hungry!), but I'm rejecting that that thought. It's only going to mess with my head. Our weight can fluctuate wildly during the day for a number of reasons (fluid balances, sodium intake, etc.). Keep your time of day consistent, and try to keep all other variables as consistent as possible too (approach it like a science experiment!). First thing in the morning after peeing means there's been no food or fluids for 8+ hours, so very little to cause dramatic day-to-day changes (other than your REAL weight changes!). -

Please Poll Me Lol When Did You Start Solid Food
imsamiam replied to NICKMOM123's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was full liquids for the first week, mushy foods for the second week and was back to mostly solids by the end of the third week. I didn't eat any red meat or bread but my surgery date was 12/28 and for the past week I've been able to eat anything and pretty much as much as I want. Any time I eat less its because of a decision to do so, not because of any restriction! Very frustrating. -
I am hungry all the time now. I see the doctor again next week and I am hoping I can at least have part of what they took out back. It still made no sense to me that I never got food stuck or had problems eating any food what so ever, but still had that night time problem. I have heard of so many people not being able to eat this or that. I could eat bread or anything without a problem and I had to have part of my fill removed and it makes not sense to me. I am anxious to talk to him about it all, since I never did see him, only the x ray tech.

If you're weighing yourself every day, you'll definitely see some fluctuation. I was guilty of getting on the scale every day (OK, multiple times a day!) but I only "officially" weighed in once a week. Keep in mind that daily fluctuation is very normal and can be due to Water weight, approaching that time of the month, etc. If you're 3 weeks out, you could also have hit a stall as a lot of people do around that time. Just be patient, keep on your plan, and the weight loss will eventually continue!

FOOD FANTASYS
peprmentpati replied to fefebutterfly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm one month shy from being 1 year post-op. The first week post-op all I could do was think boutfood, watch the food network and look at recipes online! I was obsessed - I think it was the liquid diet that got me going mad! Good news is that it went away! Hang in there! Rebecca -
Only 1 Day Of Liquid Diet?
AliveAgain replied to Randgalt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, I don't think so. I was a high BMI (48) and my doctor only had me do the liquid diet 48-hours before surgery. He said the whole 2-4 week liquid diet is just torture and so long as you can adhere to a high-protein/low carb diet and lose 10-15 pounds before surgery. Which I did. -
For new bandsters, I posted this in post op but thought it would be better in pre-op. While reading some of the posts in the last few weeks I have read that some people are under the perception that doctors do not put any Fluid in the band at surgery. . I did ask this question at the hospital after surgery and was told by a nurse that they do not usually do that at the time of surgery. When I went for my first fill I found out that I already had 3cc in my band. They put in 2 more and I could not even sip Water so they took out I cc and now I have 4cc’s. I have had appointments twice for two more fills but I have canceled them due to the fact that I am still losing and have some difficulty in eating some foods. I did not know to ask the question of my doctor before surgery so I am hoping that all the new banders to be will remember this and ask the doctor doing the surgery and not the nurse after surgery

Family Doctor Unsupportive Of Wls
srs82781 replied to neener's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to find a primary care since I didn't have one near me. Luckily she worked with me and wrote a letter stating my need for surgery in order to get approval..... I also had to do a three mo supervised diet with PCP and the surgeons nutritionist. In my opinion if my doctor was not supportive of my WLS decision then I would find another doctor. After all, if we hadnt tried diet and exercise numerous times before then we wouldn't have come to the drastic decission to have the surgery in the first place. Majority of people that opt to have WLS have been obese the majority of their lives much like myself. And this is a long journey and if you don't have your doctor on board with your decision then it's in your best interest to find one that is, this is a stressful process and you don't need the added stress of someone you will have to work so closely with not being supportive. Good luck with the doctor and know you can always turn to this page to find people just like yourself to help you along the way! -
Thanks Chloe, I'm hoping he get's me in for the first week of sept as i have vacation that week, and I really dont want to tell the boss why i'm taking time off!

Hey October sleevers, what are you eating?!
Iowa_summergirl replied to stac3031's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved 10/14...I have stopped "tracking" everything I eat and am relying on my body to tell me what is right. Most of the time it is about 3-4 ounces at a time, sticking to only three meals daily with very very limited snacking (like usually 1-2 times a week...handful of crackers or a piece of fruit). I feel great diet wise and continue to lose steadily. My family is wondering if I am loosing too fast?? Typical day: glass of milk to start, Breakfast is usually either a 1/4 piece of toast or a couple crackers with a homemade dip (lots of Protein in it--usually yogurt based). Lunch: cold cuts with some cheese, piece of fruit. Supper: whatever my family is eating but in a much smaller portion. Tonight we had spaghetti. I don't do any juices (unless I have an occasional cocktail). Also haven't done much for Protein shakes...trying to get most of it through diet. My favorite food is still homemade dips in the morning! HW: 256 SW: 224 CW: 182 -

Only 1 Day Of Liquid Diet?
Half~of~Bri replied to Randgalt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Three days ago, before I "officially" started my pre-op diet, I went ahead and splurged one last time. Me, My husband and my daughter went to Outback Steakhouse and I went all out on my favorite food - A bloomin' onion (we all shared) Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and Shrimp (I could only eat half before I was full) and even a "sample" size of the chocolate Thunder from Down Under which was actually more like a normal size portion instead of the shareable one. It was absolutely scrumptious and so worth it to me. Now I'm 100% sticking to my diet until surgery in two weeks. I think it's normal to have a little bit of mourning before surgery..food has been our friend and companion for many years and it's hard to imagine life without that crutch. Just try to remember how great you'll feel in a few weeks when the weight starts melting off! Make a commitment to stick to the plan from here on out, the more you get off before surgery the easier it will be afterward. Good luck! -
September 4Th Sleevers, What Are You Doing Today ? What Did You Do The Day Before Surgery ?
JerzyGirl replied to Odee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm amazed at how different each surgeon's requirements are. I'm scheduled for surgery this Wednesday and I've not had to do a lot of the things that I see others writing about. The only thing I have to do is be on a clear liquid diet tomorrow and take a Levaquin pill, as well as shower right before I leave for the hospital and wash really well with anti-bacterial soap. I didn't have any extended pre-op diet nor do I have to drink magnesium citrate. I wonder why things are so different for each surgeon? Anyway, for everyone who has surgery this week...you're in my thoughts and prayers and I hope everything goes smoothly for each of you! And if you have access to an eye mask and ear plugs, they certainly help with getting some much needed rest in the hospital!!
