August 2023 Surgery Buddies!
Hapamomma replied to kayhay0714's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not done well on the preop diet while traveling to move my daughter to college this week. I will let my surgeon know and see if she still wants to keep my surgery date. I’m a revision and she almost didn’t put me in the preop diet. I am back home on Subday and will have 5 full days to follow it without any hiccups. I am worried. -
September surgery buddies!!
Dogmom68 replied to Slwhurst's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck to everyone who has surgery tomorrow!! You all are going to do great! Remember to sip, sip, sip your water! My surgery was two weeks ago and I’m only down 10 lbs so far but it’s a marathon; not a race. I had a revision from VSG to RNY. No acid reflux! Hurray!!!😁🎉 -
I am getting a port revision on the 17th. It sucks. i have gained almost 20 lbs being 2 months without restriction. I am exercising and trying to hold back on the calories. it is really hard without help. Good to find a thread where others have had the same issue though. I really appreciate the insight you have given me!

banded, banding, bands--verb--To assemble or unite in a group
LeighaMason replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Melody, Your 5 pounds is probably a combo of water retention from the salt in restaurant food and when I work out more than usual my body retains water for a few days too. I bet it goes away in a couple of days. Stacie-- What about the sleeve if you have to have revision? That is my backup plan. Bob-- Good luck with the panni, I would like to do some CS but A) I'm scared of the pain, I cant take off work and most of all C) NO MONEY. I am kind of irritated that, after losing all this weight I am not more happy with my body. I guess I thought I was going to get my 20 year old body back. SHEESH! -
Hi rx! There is a forum at this site that is all about band to sleeve revisions. Many good informative posts there about this part of the challenge. In summary, sleeve is much much much better then the band. I have had great results. The risks of the sleeve are higher at the beginning (ie leaks, excessive bleeding) and those risks are higher for a revision. However, after the initial healing period, the complications are so much less with the sleeve. No vomiting, no slipping, etc etc - and the best part, the weight loss is much better with the sleeve!

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
Daisalana replied to TracyinKS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well.. Friday is a go. 6am for pre-op, surgery at 8am. And she forgot anesthesia cost. !@#@#$^&$%@#! She said she begged them to let me not have to pay it up front, because they couldn't do same day yadda yadda, I'd have to make 2 trips down. So they are going to go ahead and bill me afterward for anesthesia time used. For the band, it was $500, but she said since this is going to be less time it will be cheaper. Whatever. So now we're up to $2,596 at most. I'm going to insist on free fills for at least 2 years! Called the hotel we stayed at last week to reserve a room, I asked the rate and she said "you have government rate on your account' and she never gave me an actual number. Last time I stayed, the doctor called in the room and paid for it. So I dunno what that means, it was $60 last time. Hopefully it's not anymore. We're going up Thursday night, getting the room, surgery Fri. Morning.. I said "And I will be able to go home the same day, right?" she said 'barring any complications'. Really, I don't know how I would have complications.. if I did fine in the normal surgery, revising the port surgery should be a piece of cake, right? Tell me right!! -
100+ To Loose
LosingItForMe2011 replied to LosingItForMe2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's great that your hubby is so supportive! It truly is nice to have your best friend helping you along, that I know. My husband isn't banded nor has he had WLS but, he does need to lose weight and when I'm ON he's ON, if you know what I mean. He does better managing his eating when I'm managing mine. When I got my lapband he actually lost about 30 pounds just eating less because instead of two steaks, we cooked one with me taking a piece so he was eating less. Worked! Now you know for sure....to make sure your husband gets that upper GI. I should have demanded mine sooner than I did. I never should have actually had the revision surgery but, of course back then no one told me that so many bandsters that had to have revision ended up losing it in the end. Oh wellsky! Are you talking about the OTHER lapband group that formed after so much trouble was on the LBTTalk website or the Obesity dot com one? I don't care for the format on OB at all...they don't have catagories like this one. I think Alex and his crew (assuming he has one) have done an awesome job organizing these sites for sure. It's makes it easier to navigate. I do hope more will come but, it's fun chatting with you I can't remember my name on the LBT site it's been a while since I've been there. I was a moderator there but, mainly I answered any of the "new" posts because I never did learn how to put strikes on a members account or block them. Working full time plus made that hard but, I felt I was contributing by helping the newbies with their questions and welcoming them I truly appreciate your offer to help with questions. I'll be taking you up on that for sure! When is your next appointment? -

Revision Surgery Wait Time Between Band To Sleeve
kareng3966 replied to Midijola's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
well I have to go through the 7 month visit with my family dr. and all the other steps that I did with the first surgery before I can have my revision. I guess if I want insurance to pay I will just have to go with the plan. I had planned on having the surgery before I put on too much weight but I guess I will have to work harder to keep it off. - which is going to be even harder because I am going to have surgery on my foot most likely in May - and there will be no weight allowed on that foot for a month and then very little for the next. By the time I am getting over that surgery I will be nearing my time to have my sleeve surgery. I just hope I can balance my diet to not gain a lot of weight before I have that surgery. because there wont be to much exercising. I am so happy you are so close to your surgery. I will be praying for you. Just remember the goal you will be reaching for when you are struggling through the bad days. Just grasp that picture of the smaller jeans and not squeezing into those tinny chairs. -
Ok. My story is kind of long. To make it short...I had lapband surgery in 2009. I had a bad experience and ended up with atelectasis and was in the hospital for four days. Also, I wasn't given a lot of education about the band before hand. I now refer to my previous surgeon as "the chop shop." I had my band removed after having far too many complications from it. It was removed by my current surgeon in March 2013. He tried to convince me to revise to a sleeve during the band removal but I didn't feel like I knew enough about it to have it done. I didn't want to make that mistake twice! He was super understanding and said we should take the band out and if I wanted a sleeve or bypass I could come back anytime. Nine months later I went back after doing a lot of my own research and consulting with my GP, OB (had a baby five months before my band was removed), and my endo (type 1 diabetes for 23 years). They all supported or suggested the gastric sleeve. I have been approved and done all the necessary steps to have surgery. I am scheduled for Feb. 13th. My question to everyone is how anxious/nervous are you/were you before surgery? I can't tell if my anxiety stems from the awful experience I had the first time around or if its normal. Last night I had a full panic attack and told my family I couldn't go through with it. Of course as soon as the attack ended I felt like a fool and today have felt completely at peace with the idea of surgery. I have had WLS before. I know how eating will be different and how it may effect my relationships. I just can't figure out if the anxiety is typical pre-op jitters or the fear of failing again? Possibly a mix of both? Anyway, enough of my story. I would love to hear how you might be feeling or did feel pre-op and maybe your (healthy) coping mechanisms. Thanks for taking time to read this!

Congrats to everyone who has commenced their journey, I've not yet posted but started reading bp as the nerves are setting in, I'm having rny on Friday 6/6, I'm in Australia. I had a gastric sleeve in 2011 and needed revision, I could eat too much fro day 1 and reflux was horrible so this is the only solution for me. Lucky I have a great surgeon although he is never the chatty one, he breezes in and out and always minimises concerns so never get the support and reassurance I would like at the moment. I've joined the Facebook post op group so hope to speak there soon. Looking forward to starting to hear from people as they come out of surgery. AJ

This is why I don't post much anymore either. People don't want constructive advice or hard truth. They want to be coddled and told they can keep on doing things like they have been their whole life and the band will do it all.....Next up will be a revision to sleeve or bypass cause their band failed them all the while making absolutely no changes to their lifestyle.
-
My being afraid of bypass is what led me to the disasterous decision to do a band to begin with. I have realized very much the hard way that I should not make medical decisions based on things I am afraid of that I have no expertise whatsoever in and that I should listen to the people who do have the expertise. I went to my revision doctor wanting the sleeve. He suggested bypass as a better option. Thankfully this time i listened. I ultimately realized this was the best course to take to avoid the risk of yet another revision. And I'm done with bariatric surgery! He was right and I'm mad at myself for wasting 11 years of my life in denial with the band where I could have just had success and eliminated my health issues in one fell swoop instead of trading them in for The new ones the band caused.

Is An 8 A Romotely Possible Size After Sugery?
rosewood replied to audreycat123's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Yes, it is... and it was a surprise to me too! My goal was to get to size 10, but somehow I skipped the tens and went right to an 8 from 12 (mostly because I am always a little chicken to try on a new size until the old size gets baggy!) I started at size 20 and today reached my original goal weight of 155. For me at 5'8", that is a size 8 My revised goal weight is 145 and I am now also working on toning things up with yoga and walking! Good luck! You can do it! RoseAnne -
September Sleevers...! Come on in and chat!
sararn74 replied to birdmadgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
19 days post op today. Down 19.5 lbs since surgery. Saw surgeon today, he said everything looked great, continue on puréed foods & follow with nutritionist. See him again in December! Unless problems arise. Only bummer of the day was he wants me to stay off work for full 6 weeks, since I was revised from lap band and do excessive lifting, bending, reaching etc for my job. I was hoping for return after 4 weeks, my bank account is shrinking faster than I am :/ -
Ah, That was actually the best attempt yet to kill this thread. Make a deliberate and snide "for real" attack. Bravo. I say that now we just charge on madly and ignore that snide-aside and try and kill this thread in a much more entertaining fashion. *steps up to the plate* I recommend RNY Revisions for everyone!!

Anyone get bypass surgery for gerd?
CyclicalLoser replied to atomicbeing's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had terrible Gerd, then I got the lap band. All of the gerd went away (Or so I thought). I woke up in the morning spending the first couple hours clearing my throat. The surgeon told me it was probably "silent GERD". Right after my revision surgery from the band to the RNY, the throat clearing was fixed. I have a family member who was thinking about having bariatric surgery. They have GERD really bad, and the surgeon also recommended the RNY. He said that the sleeve is a high pressure setup which has a tendency to push up stomach acid. This is coming from a surgeon who does mostly sleeves, so I wouldn't say he was biased against sleeves in general. -
Hi there 6 weeks actually starting next week! It’s very hard following my pre-op diet while at work and stressing about possible exposure to COVID-19. I really don’t want to take any chances of having my surgery postponed. I feel like if I get stir crazy I’ll go back to work. I hope your recovery goes well and you’re able to function at work easily. I work at a prison so there’s a lot of walking unsure if I should rush back? Which surgery are you having? I’m a revision sleeve to DS due to hypothyroidism & pcos.
